Fireworks In Cabinet: Mahinda Asks Hakeem To Decide On His Future With The Govt

It is reported that President Mahinda Rajapaksa lashed out at Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauf Hakeem at the recent Cabinet meeting demanding that he and his party decides whether they would wish to remain within the government. The President’s wrath has been incurred by what is widely speculated to be a document that was given by some SLMC members to UN Human Rights Council chief Navi Pillay during her visit to Sri Lanka in August 2013. The document cited hundreds of attacks on Muslim and Christian places of worship. Navi Pillay’s recent report at the UNHRC had cited the SLMC document as evidence of the Rajapaksa’s regimes anti minority activities.

Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem

Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem

It is well known that the anti Muslim and anti Christian campaigns launched by groups such as the Bodu Bala Sena and Ravana Balakaya have been getting the approval and patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the ruling regime. The leading Sinhala nationalists within the government,  Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka and Wimal Weerawansa had raised questions about the SLMC document at the Cabinet meeting. President Rajapaksa, who align with these elements within his Cabinet rather than with how own more moderate party, the Sri Lankan Freedom Party, have lambasted the SLMC and its leader Hakeem.

A visibly angry President Rajapaksa had asked Minister Hakeem about the document given to Pillay. Minister Hakeem had told the President that in as much as the President did not have control over some of the UPFA members he too had no control over some of SLMC members. He had told the President that it was not him but the SLMC Secretary who had given the document to Ms. Pillay. It was at this point that President Rajapaksa had asked Minister Hakeem to decide whether he wished to continue as a minister in the UPFA Government.

Interestingly the Rajapaksa regime has never denied its involvement with the Buddhist groups such as the Bodu Bala Sena or the Ravana Balakaya which have openly carried out numerous attacks against minorities.

It is also interesting that at the UNHRC last year all the Muslim countries either voted with Sri Lanka or abstained. The United States has cited the State sponsored attacks against Muslims to lobby these countries to vote with them this year. It would be interesting to see how countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE etc. view these latest developments where the minorities in this country are targeted by State sponsored groups.

What SLMC did was absolutely correct. It is becoming more clear that all the racist and religeos attacks are under sponsorship of the regime and this needs to be bought to the attention of the world. Being the leader of the country, Rajapakse needs to turn his attention to eradicating, punish racism and religeos intolerance which is also a reason for the birth of the LTTE. However he is threatening the SLMC leader for telling the honest truth that is happening for which he and his goons are responsible. Thus Rajapakse is not even fit to head a provincial council for the level of racism inside him. This is also a sentiment right truly echoed by no other than Lee Kwan Yew of Singapore.

“needs to be bought to the attention of the world”?

So how are the [Edited out] going to get their hymie relatives in the “international communty” to come and put things right?

Is Arlene going to entertain them?

      Spark,

“Interestingly the Rajapaksa regime has never denied its involvement with the Buddhist groups such as the Bodu Bala Sena or the Ravana Balakaya which have openly carried out numerous attacks against minorities.”

Yes. What SLMC did was absolutely correct. It showed that they have principles and ethics, in a difficult situation., and expose the Monk Mahanama Buddhist Racists. This is something the so-called Socialists in Sri Lanka never did, because they are ass lickers and have no principles.

Yes, expose the Racist Monk Mahanama Sinhala “Buddhists” and the SL State Sponsored Racismf or what they are and save the True Buddhism and Lanka from these State Racists.

      1. SLMC, Thank you for a revealing look at Sri Lanka’s Communalism, Chauvinism and Racism of the SL State. This is the Core Problem in Sri Lanka that prevents a national identity. However, what differentiates Sri Lanka is Monk Mahanama Sinhala “Buddhist” Racism, as written in the Mahawansa. In fact, there is ample data to describe Sri Lanka’s problems in one sentence, just one Sentence.

      2. The core problem and curse of Sri Lanka in preventing a national identity and forming an egalitarian society, goes back to 5th Century AD writings and imaginations of Racist Sinhala “Buddhist” Monk Mahanama, who wrote his imaginations of what Sinhala Buddhism, Sinhala, and the blessing of the Island to be Mahanama ” Buddhist ” Island, called Dhamma Deepaya. Many people recognize, in order to solve a problem, and come up up with a solution the core problems need to be identified.

This is what groups such as the Bodu Bala Sena and Ravana Balakaya have been getting the approval and patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the ruling regime anf the leading Sinhala nationalists within the government, Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka and Wimal Weerawansa are following.

Unfortunately, the Sinhala “Buddhist” socialists and egalitarians have sold out their soul and principles, in order to lick the asses of the Sinhala Mahanama Buddhist Racists. Read the History of LSSP, Lanka Sama Samaji Party, Lanka Equal Society Party, or or Lanka Egalitarian Party.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanka_Sama_Samaja_Party

      3. We all know what the core problem is. Monk Mahanama Sinhala “Buddhist” Racism that is imbibed from a young age to Sinhala Buddhist Children. This is what the True Natives, Native Veddas have to say about the Para- Sinhala and other Paras-, the Paradeshis or foreigners.

      4. All the above descriptions support the Sinhala and Tamil as Para-Sinhala and Para-Tamil, like Para-deshi, Foreigners, as far a the Native Veddah are concerned, who walked at least 16,000 years ago when Lanka and India were connected by a land bridge as the sea levels were low. So, the Sinhala and Tamil Nationalism need to be identified as, Racism, Para-Sinhala Nationalism and Para-Tamil Nationalism. Monk Mahanama imaginations of Mahawansa need to be exposed and discarded. Why?

Non- Confirmation bias of Mahawansa Did Dr. Para-nawithana, the noted Sri Lankan Archaeologist. believe, the Imaginations of monk Mahanama of 5th Century such as:

      a) Grandfather of Para-Vijaya was a lion? Any DNA data in support of this imagination?

      b) Buddha visited Lanka three-times in 500 BC? any support for the Imagination.

      c) During one visit, Buddha left his giant footprint on top of Mount Samanala Kanda, “Adams Peak”. Did he fly by the Dandu Monera Yanthraya, Giant Bird, and parachute?

      d) The Veddah are the offspring of Para-Vijaya and Kuveni. Is there any DNA data to support this? No. Another Monk Mahanama Imagination. Sri Lanka’s indigenous inhabitants, the Veddas — or Wanniya-laeto (‘forest-dwellers’) as they call themselves — preserve a direct line of descent from the island’s original Neolithic community dating from at least 16,000 BC and probably far earlier according to current scientific opinion.1 Even today, the surviving Wanniya-laeto community retains much of its own distinctive cyclic worldview, prehistoric cultural memory, and time-tested knowledge of their semi-evergreen dry monsoon forest habitat that has enabled their ancestor-revering culture to meet the diverse challenges to their collective identity and survival. With the impending extinction of Wanniya-laeto culture, however, Sri Lanka and the world stand to lose a rich body of indigenous lore and living ecological wisdom that is urgently needed for the sustainable future of the rest of mankind. Historically, for the past twenty-five centuries or more Sri Lanka’s indigenous community has been buffeted by successive waves of immigration and colonization that began with the arrival of the Sinhalese from North India in the 5th century BC. Consequently, the Wanniyalaeto have repeatedly been forced to choose between two alternative survival strategies: either to be assimilated into other cultures or to retreat ever further into a shrinking forest habitat. Who are the natives of Lanka? Native Vedda. The walked. They are not Para- and not Paradeshi, Kallathoni, Illegal Boat People or Hora-Oru, like the Para-Sinhala, Para-Demala and other Paras.

      Spark,

What about the other Sinhala Buddhists, the Tamils and the Christians in the Rajapaksa Racist State?

Are they happy withe the Monk Mahanama Sinhala Buddhist racists and their criminality?

Why is that ONLY SLMC is held for a higher Ethical standard ?
Is it because the Tamils, the Sinhalas es and the Christians are know to have low ethical standards?

      Just Curious

Spark, What’s the honest truth Man. I’m going to explain the Honest Truth. Hakeem and the SLMC clan doing all the illegal things such as land grabbing, illegal trade activities in this country. It is surprise that MR not let this bugger out earlier. Here are the few examples.[Not all muslims but extremist SLMC henchmens].

      1. Try to erect prayer stations every nook and corner of the country. When ask to demolish those illegal prayer stations, they screaming that Government attacking mosques. iN dAMBULLA,aNURADHAPURA AND IN Dehiwala that’s what happened. For a ethnic group which consist less than 10% of the total population, for what purpose need so many mosques and prayer stations?

      2. Grab lands belongs to buddhist sacred areas or archealogical sites. In Muhudu Maha Viharaya Ashroff’s henchmen grab almost 34 acres and built houses. In Mawanella lands belongs to Devanagala temple grab by muslims and built houses. Likewise in Pulmode there is a attempt to grab lands belong to Asirimale temple.

      3. Giving Land permits to people who already own lands. Sometimes issue land permits to 12 year old boys. In Pothuvil the DS issued land permits to 2000 muslims covering almost 5000 acres, which is reserve of Forrest dept. In pulmode the provincial councillor R.M.Anwar trying to issue land permits to 9000 applicants in Thiriyaya, Asirimale area grabbing even temple land of Asirimale. In 70’s only less than 20 muslim families lived there with 35 sinhala families. From where these 9000 applicants erupted? Those were aliens from some other country? Maybe from Pakistan.

4.Import illegally family planning injections, tablets etc.. and distribute them to abortion centers. Import expired or discarded food items and put them into the market after regrind or re-polishing. Import Cumming seed mix with another seed which can create abortions or miscarriages in women.

      5. Import drugs[narcotics] and distribute them among sinhala school children.

6.Marry sinhala girls by cheating them. For that purpose owners of malls recruit pretty village sinhala girls and provoke these poor girls to marry muslim boys.

      7. As a Minister of Justice he intervene to enroll more muslim students to Law College. Is it justifiable? And this time he cut the chance of 50 sinhala students to enroll into law college. As a Justice Minister his action is very disgusting.
These are only few examples. IS THIS NOT THE HONEST TRUTH MAN.

“Try to erect prayer stations every nook and corner of the country. When ask to demolish those illegal prayer stations, they screaming that Government attacking mosques.”

Is it why we see Buddha statues in EVERY nook and corner and illegal electricity is used to provide lighting?

In 70′s only less than 20 muslim families lived there with 35 sinhala families. From where these 9000 applicants erupted? Those were aliens from some other country? Maybe from Pakistan. OH yes the ones who were ETHNICALLY CLEANSED BY THE LTTE WHILE THE WHOLE WORLD LOOKED ON …MIGHT BE YOUR NEIGHBORS…

Giving Land permits to people who already own lands
LIKE HOW THE UDA HANDS OVER NEW PROPERTY WHAT IS MEANT FOR THE EVICTEES FROM SLAVE ISLAND… TO THE SINHALESE AND THAT TOO ONLY TO UPFA SUPPORTERS….

We have read in papers how BBS and RAVANAS with the blessing from MR, GR and other racial politicians vandalized the mosques, attacked and demolished the mosques and not stopping at that they also attacked the Muslim business premises of many leading Muslim business people. Worse thing is like common underworld thugs government want to push all the wrong to Muslim minorities under the carpet, while Government doing absolute nothing to prevent this harassment, now trying all kind of operations to block this being reported to UNHRC Geneva.
If the real status of this administration is realized by countries like Pakistan, Iran, UAE, SAUDI and Muslim countries in Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia will also back US, EU proposal.

        Baboon
You are such a prick. Sri Lanka has constitutionally enshrined freedom to practice religion and we have (pun manifestly intended to Mr Pee Nonis here) had a vibrant co-existence of all communities for hundreds of years. In the pre Jaarapakse Lanka, all Sri Lankans enjoyed the various cultural practices and celebrations of all religions, including romanticising about when the next Eid would come around so that one could raid his Muslim neighbour’s place for a bowl of watt-will-happen.

Saudi Arabia is an aggregation of tribal folk hastily cobbled together by western vested interests and a leadership allowed to get away literally with murder in return for oil security to the west. I dare say that the growing cult of Wahabism in Lanka, where women dress up as grim-reapers is a consequence of increasing sense of marginalisation and a ‘if you can be showy with your religion, then so can I’ mentality. Have you read the article by Dr Ameer Ali recently published in the Sunday Leader? (see http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2014/02/23/muslims-of-sri-lanka-or-in-sri-lanka/)…. this is a piece of writing that is to be celebrated by all communities and an indictment on what might be wrong with demonstrating religious one-upmanship.

It does not take much intelligence to realise that in order to live in harmony, we should all relegate religion and race to a vanishingly small niche in our lives and proactively celebrate our sense of community with kindness to all. Unfortunately, this is not allowed to happen due to the cruel and ruthless exploitation of the masses by misbegotten politicians in so many parts of the world today, including in our motherland.

When o when will we be rid of this menace for good? Do we have the leadership in waiting to facilitate this?

          1

          @We the People

Absolutely correct. Every single word of what you said. Love the grim reaper analogy. Our muslims should realize that wearing ones religion on the shoulder could lead to unwanted marginalization especially in a multi-communal society. A good muslim after all does not have to have physical marks or symbols for identification.

I agreed with you, I do have good friends who follower of Islam. the issue is no that, If you visit SLMC website’s mission\vision pages you will see what they for, They want Sharia to bring in & change our culture.. They are doing it very fast and Halal one of it , so many thing they have done, why a political party needs to impose religious practises on to a society??? Do you agree with that ???/

        • 0
          1

What you are saying is correct but not the reality , We (sinhalese) still living with any race or religion very peacefully.. What you don’t see is politically motivated islamization in Sri lanka.. They doing it very fast and ordinary muslims cannot against or give their opinions instead ordinary muslims just follow what they asked to do … SLMC web site has much enough information on this.. Don waste you time act fast to regain beautiful sri lanka which was given us very peaceful life in Sinhala buddhist culture (if you are a muslim , you dont get such freedom in any muslim country )

That was murder – the self-immolation was the result of the young lady being lead by the garden path on false promises- for years. In any society where the law is independent and effective the adulterer would have been behind bars for a very long time. But fortunately for Fakhim this is a land where there is a law for the powerful and the influential and another for the poor. It is that law by a so-called lawyer who sheepishly smiled and embarrassed an audience of Accountants stating “apey minissu api shape karanda epaya?” That’s the result of 2,500 years of culture and civilisation.

The minority Muslim and Tamil politicians should learn a lesson from this episode. The Buddhist Sinhala politicians in this island always use minority politicians as a commodity than human beings. They throw few bones and make them complete slaves and the whole community have to face the consequences of their actions. Rauf Hakeem has sold whole muslim community to Buddhist Sinhalese and they have to dance to whatever they told to do. It is time to think about what sort of relationship will ensure an independent free and fair treatment as humans! Of course, they will resort to all sort of inhumane methods against us for a short time but finally we will get freedom.

    • 2

      Ajith,

      Yes,

“The Buddhist Sinhala politicians in this island always use minority politicians as a commodity than human beings.”

But why is that the Muslims are set to different set of standards, while the Sinhala and Tamil have no ethics. Who are the other in the MR Govt? Sinhala, and Tamil. It is all right for racist Sinhala and Tamil are Racists, and that is acceptable?

      What a Double Standard.

So the Sinhala and Tamil have no Principles.

So, we need to ask God to put only the non-racists and egalitarians and ALL the animals into a huge ARC, and Flood Lanka w with 40 days rain to wash out the Sinhala and Tamil racists.

Genesis, 6, 7, 8 and 9 The Holy Bible, King James Version.

Or, if God is too busy attending to ALL the other prayers, people can take it upon themselves- generally called a revolution.

Exactly. The right Minister for the job. Why, remember he used influence to appoint his Father-in-Law as Ambassador to Jordan or
Lebanon. That Quddus was eventually found potting the poor Ayahs
who were seeking sanctuary in the same Embassy premises – escaping from the randy old Arab employers in whose views anything can be done with the “slaves” under their employ. The stone-age mentality still lives there. Ideal combination of Father and Son-in-Law. Jadiyata Moodiya.

MR has finally shown his real colour. This is hypocrisy at its best. What the SLMC or Mr. Hakeem’s Secretary did was absolutely commendable and the right thing. This should have taken place as soon as BBS, Ravaya and other anti-minority Groups cropped up. The UNCHR should have been informed of every anti-minority incident that took place in this Country and punish the perpetretor of such crimes. All those who committed, encouraged should be internationally black-listed, assets frozen and deprive freedom of movement. M, his Family and other radicals supported by the government are have a free ride, because they think Chine and Russia will always be there for them. Sri Lanka should shorten her official Name from “Democratic Socialist” to Dictatorship Republic. This suits better.

Hakeem’s predicament boils down to one thing. Living in opportunism eventually gives you away. Hunting with the hounds and running with the hare gets exposed in a small country like ours sooner than later. But some of these unprincipled men don’t care. All they are intent is making a fast buck within the short time they are with the ruling side. They cause immense harm to their small communities when they make a “business” out of politics. Earlier Muslim leaders served their community best when they aligned with the two main Southern political parties. The moment they chose to go alone on the religious identity they risk major trouble. The Muslim people are now realising the interest and future of the Muslim community is not for their leaders to corner houses in London or luxury appointments in Singapore for their families.

Historically, all muslim parties have always been with the ruling party in all governments to date.
This is their mode of survival in sri lanka – grab all benefits from each government by being “yes” men – portfolios, special concessions with regard to education, land ownership, state jobs etc.
Even with attacks on muslim shrines/institutions by militant monks, the silence of muslim parlimentarians and civic leaders was deafning – they did not wish to lose the perks, positions, powers and portfolios.

Now,the days of sycophancy for benefits are about to be over.
Hakim and compatriots must decide whether religious/human rights are more or less important, than political survival.

“In Lanka, Muslims were allowed to grow to be ant-Tamils, not anti-Buddhists.”

Very true; And with very good reason of course. Muslims have always trusted Tamils less and developed greater rapport with their Buddhist countrymen who were less sinister and more liberal.

I wonder why all Muslims traditionally speak Tamil as there home language?

“I wonder why all Muslims traditionally speak Tamil as there home language? “

Well, I wonder too; But one thing Im certain about is that its not because they love the Tamils any better than the language.

Ha ha ha…true, true, well, we all speak English but that doesn’t mean we love the English. As our much-loved village pandithaya said “just because you bark doesn’t mean that you are a dog”. Woof! Woof!

NOT the case always… those who live around the coast from Galle and beyond use Sinhala more than Tamil…its coz the Muslims blend in with their neighbors…

Take the case of MOST Muslims as the people who speak all three languages… The Tamils and the Sinhalese had the same opportunity … but they cared less… now sooner than later, the whole world would want their kids to learn Mandarin….Knowing another language is a tool to communication and better understanding… than be a frog in the well… and misunderstand anything and everything….

If I was the president and one of my appointed ministers write against my government I would not only lash out but fire him too. We need to be real here, do we know any government in this world that keep ministers/appointed politicians by the President/Priminister if they were working against the gov? Hakeem needs to smarten up if he wants to continue within the gov.!

The SLMC “document cited hundreds of attacks on Muslim and Christian places”
Really, more than 100 attacks occurred? I am sure SLMC has it, and should publicize the list to the world. Can some one list or give a link that list each attack that happened?
I am much concern why all these councils, NGO’s, Humanitarion organizations, TV channels etc. give this information only to the Navi Pillay’s UN but not to the GOSL and people of Sri Lanka before they do so.

Oh my God! Minister Hakeem being exposed for being the hypocrite he has always been……Not me Sir!!! These shits are a disgrace to human kind, let alone their community, faith and families.

Have we wondered if the paper presented to Navi Pillay was factual, if yes, what was Rajapakse all worked up about? Oops! I guess he has a problem with the truth….period.

When Hakeem’s wife [Edited out] So today, Hakeem will make the obvious choice given his warped familial values. Stay with Rajapakse, because the benefits to HIM outweigh the loss of privileges to HIM and HIS.

It is time for Rauff Hakeem to show if he is a “Honest Muslim Politician who truly represents the Muslim Community of Sri Lanka” or he is a “Traitor” who is in politics for his own benefit.

President can be a leader only if the people in the country support him, which means the political parties within the UPFA should support him, if not he too cannot be the President. It will be a matter of time before people will vote against the President.

Hence, the President cannot threaten anyone to get their support. This would become another charge in the next UN Human Rights Council and the President has to be careful.

[Edited out]. MR should have known about Thambies(Muslims).

If the resoluations is passed in March against MR,Hakeem will jump the ship and will join with Sampanthan and If not Hakeem will change the story and will stay with MR.

Warning to Sampathan: Never take a single muslim to your group.

‘You can fool some for some time but not all for all the time’. It is said. Our friend Rauf has been playing the fool on Muslim issues long enough. Whatever his ‘honesty’ of representing the cause of Musllims be it has now come to a situation he cannot continue his ‘dubvious’ role any further and his inner conscience seems to have started pricking him which forces him to do something on the ‘crimes’ committed on the Muslims. Another reason could be that may be ‘the powerful boat’ has started creaking unable to steadily sail with the increasing local and tidal waves. In all thinking changes when circumstances become unfavourable.
