Fonseka Interfering In Army Affairs, Commander Complains To President

Army Commander Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake has complained to President Maithripala Sirisena that former Army Commander Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka is interfering in the affairs of the Army.

Fonseka

Senanayake has said that Fonseka ‘is giving instructions to officer cadres without his (Senanayake’s) knowledge and had also spoken to him about transfers and promotions.

Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that Senanayake had in fact mentioned Fonseka by name when he spoke with the President.

Fonseka, who was hopeful that he would be given the ‘Law and Order’ portfolio finally had to be content with the Sustainable Development, Wildlife and Regional Development Ministry. Affairs related to the security forces are outside his jurisdiction.

Fonseka is the only guy in the government who speaks his mind. He doesn’t mince his words. A nightmare to the Rajapakses and their minions who yearn for social respect despite their heinous record. In fact Mahinda has confided to his close friends that he has a recurring nightmare of finding himself alone in an elevator with Fonseka.

Why is CT so obsessed with Field Marshal. Whatever he does is to prevent a Jarapucksa comeback.

“Whatever he does is to prevent a Jarapucksa comeback.”

Do you think the lonely Field is man of compassion, with liberal values, believes in equality, ……………………… and secular convictions?
Read the excerpt from an interview Sarath Fonseka had given to Stewart Bell of Canadian newspaper National Post:
“The national leadership basically is determined to solve this problem,” he says. “The task given to us is to eradicate terrorism … If we have the same commitment one more year, the LTTE’s destination is, I think, decided.”
In the general’s view, the war is driven by Tamils who want a homeland and have chosen Sri Lanka as the place. But he says the country’s ethnic Sinhalese majority will never allow the ethnic Tamil minority to break the island apart.
        …………….
        …………
        ………
“I strongly believe that this country belongs to the Sinhalese but there are minority communities and we treat them like our people,” he says.

“We being the majority of the country, 75%, we will never give in and we have the right to protect this country.

“We are also a strong nation … They can live in this country with us. But they must not try to, under the pretext of being a minority, demand undue things.”

He dismisses concerns by international human rights groups about the conduct of his forces, saying that while civilian deaths are inevitable in war, relatively few non-combatants have died in the Sri Lankan conflict.

Yes, this is just mud sling on him.

I believe, some guys close to Rajapakshes make every efforts to paint the picture in favour of them ….

WIth much of evidence being proved that Gotabaya should be the one to have killed Lasantha on that broad day light, their men may be plotting to hang it on SF. That is a calculated plan of Gotabaya men.
That Kamal some one who behaves as if he was the army commander is is the person to have done all thIS:
But truths will come out sooner than later.
Current Army commander is a good person and he has been in touch with SF is known fact. But the news read here is beyond my understanding.

        You are right..

But they have been abusing the very same folks on and on. People have been fed with blatant lies.
Now with Megalo Gota being mapped to be the future leader, all what is truth and untruth have been pouring by them knowing that Lasantha s case would come up in the days to come.
Thadjudeen family would come forward to make it clear that how they have been served with justice. Those boys that killed Thajdudeen young man should be beheadedregardless of the status of the boy.
That Yoshita had also been involving in politics while being inthe navy. All these should be regarded as first priority.

Former Army Commander Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka,

RE: Fonseka Interfering In Army Affairs, Commander Complains To President

Corrected Fonseka Interfering In Army Affairs, the Patholaya Commander Complains To the Patholaya President.

      Just ignore the Patholayas.

They are turning the Land of Native Veddah Aethho , into the Land of Patholayas.

Rajapaksa, aka Medamulana Jarapaksas were peeing in their pants.

The Patholalayas did not want Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka, as the Law and Order minister, so that the Patholayas can mark their time.

Are the pants of the Patholaya Commander wet as well, just like those of the Rajapaksas, aka Medamulana Jarapaksas?

I think .. elected president being joined with so called 16-clan betrayed his mandate.
Had UNP been out of his fraction at the time common candidate was campaigning , nothing would have made Mr Sirisena a president.
What he could do was, to leave party politics and work for what he pledged in the election camapaign.
      There were
      1. Stand vehemently against former goons who looted the country as no times in the past. Even if it has been painted almost everthing in favour of Rajapakshe men, elected candidate should have been well aware of for what the has been given that much of mandate. He just betrayed… no matter if SLFP or UPFA could go into pieces, but he could think about the future of nation.
      2. I still believe, if President did so, UNP leader had no other option than to go forward.
Unp leader too naively made few decisions such as appointing his former friend as CBG. That ended up as never expected. But the style of cases have even been the cse with developed countries. Anyways, having said, I dont mean to underestimate the failure made by bond scam, but bond scam should no thave been happend, in the good governance govt.
There, PM should take the responsiblity regardless of any other problems they have within their party.
      3. JVP – has been doing well, but their stressing should have been not only in the lines of corruptoin, they should see, as to why they have repeatedl been defeated or marginalized by very same folks in this country.
4: Srilanka is a country with the highest Literacy and other social indicators in the region. But people behaviour is akin to those with no brains. People tend to bend their heads to anyone who come first with the distributions.

Ajay – its regrettable that you know very very little about
this Fonseka. He is no guardian angel. You say he does not
mince his words. He also has made mince meat out of human
beings and has plenty of blood in his hands. Just this week
an MP complained how he telephoned the Peliyagoda Police
on behalf of a drug lord. He asked them not to arrest the drug
dealer since he would produce him personally. Imagine such
a moron becoming the Minister of Law and Order. Ajay, find
out from those who know Fonseka. He is a good soldier but NO
    gentleman.

How true how true Sampath. These morons here no diddly squat. He WAS a great soldier with a brilliant and ruthless military mind. But he is also a egotistical tyrant from those days. He could not be awarded certain medals because he had certain blackmarks in his personnel file. He will take over the government in a hurry if he were the Law and Order minister. There is a big odour as far as he is concerned and good governance. Ask his former son in law; made lots of money during the war.

Sarath Fonseka is no angel. He was as racist as any BBS member before he got locked up. It is still not clear whether he had any hand in political thuggery and murder. Very likely he did. Maybe he thinks he is still in the Army and wants to run it his way.
Still, I think he should have been Law and Order Minister, if only to give the Rajapaksas a hard time.

Just before the presidential elections in 2010 this public racist made on the record statement if he were to win the elections he would drag the clan and cronies all the way to Galle Face Green.

        Do you know why?

TNA in a “calculated move” supported this public racist and defeated him in the elections. Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims ………… should thank Sambandan. The country would have lost more lives after the elections than during the war had this public racist won the war.

Remember this racist Marshal also said when he was glorifying himself that Srilanka did not belong to Tamils. That makEs him a total racist to deny the Tamils existence since the ancient times as same as the Sinhal Kallathonis arrived in SL over centuries ago.
That sort of an ill informed warmonger with very minimal intelligence.
Any way the war mongers do not need any education but learn how to kill brutally.
          Now he’s playing innocent I gather .
..All are uneducated morons with blood in their hands and in their brain to kill ,kill kill.
I wondered whether he has had any education or read books since the end of the war on Tamils ancestry in SLanka.
Can be a threat to Tamils in future unless he has changed ways and his thought processes.

“TNA in a “calculated move” supported this public racist and defeated him in the elections”
So you are in the inner circle of TNA – I had always suspected.

What does your last sentence say? Please clarify a bit. You are happy that Rajapaksa was at the helm, not this guy?

Sorry it should read as follows:
The country would have lost more lives after the elections than during the war had this public racist won the presidential elections.”

Thanks for pointing out the error.
By the way neither national hangman Gota nor the lonely Field Marshall Fonseka won the war. It was VP who won the war for Mahinda with great support from Hindia, Uncle Sam, and few other countries.

” I think he did. Not alone of course, but surely he made a contribution.”

Killing innocent civilians deliberately or otherwise is not war.
For a racist hurting “Others” comes naturally.
He also said just on the eve of his presidential elections, he would drag the clan and cronies all the way to the Galle Face Green. What for?

My point is Sarath is another racist capable of hurting innocent people and his perceived enemies, he is as evil as his arch enemy Gota.

NV, you say: “It was VP who won the war for Mahinda with great support from Hindia, Uncle Sam, and few other countries”.

Sorry, but I am confused by that. The charge is that all those countries helped VP in different ways at various stages of the war to fight the SL Govt headed by Mahinda at that time. In the final stages they even tried to save VP and his top comrades from death. But I cannot understand why you say VP helped Mahinda to win the war.

Sorry again, but I am new to this column. But I would appreciate if you could expand your theory.

As often, even when Mrs Udubaddewa, (it’s been proved not to be a rel name) says the right thing, it is for the wrong reason.
      .
Yes, we need to treat the North as a “normal” part of Sri Lanka. There could be one or two camps in the North, but there should never be such a presence there that the people of the North feel that there is military occupation.
      .
Mrs U. – we’d like to see your photograph. You could well be a man; a “Maha Kalu Sinhalaya” like me. Of Dravidian descent, all of us, but speaking a different language. “They” speak Tamil, a language that I don’t understand, and which sounds harsh to me; but which they probably find quite musical. I don’t know about that, but it is certainly an older language than ours.
      .
No, we are not going to “sell” our country to anybody; it looks as though th Rajapaksas, the Ranils, and the Mahendrans have already done that. The Norther
n Tamils are Sri Lankans, who have been here every bit as long as we. True, though it is, that the “Up-country Tamils” are of more recent origin, and we have wronged them no end. They don’t have the education yet to know just how badly they’ve been treated by Brits, and by us.
      .
Mrs U., why don’t you migrate to Northern India since you are the sort of person who believes all these Aryan myths? At least that’s the persona that you’ve adopted.
      .
By the way, my comment beginning, “Dear Ajay”, though appearing below this, was written long before this one, when only one comment was visible.

    • 1
      2

      Mrs Udubaddewa,

You are talking about Field Marshal Fonseka as fine guy. New King said he cannot make Ponny as Law and Order Minister as India and America didn’t like Ponny. He explained, as matter of diplomacy, an internal Law and order Minister has to be acceptable for the Colombo diplomatic community too. But our understanding was, as the past defense minister, he cannot do detrimental to the Rapist army and the Old Royals. Ponny was viewd as a traitor by Old Royals.

Yes there are so many comments trying to establish that Ponny is Field Marshal. But at your level, if somebody says “Field Marshal”, you are not sure if that is a wild buffalo plough in the field or the Sinhala Army raping & Murdering in Northern lands. So let me make thing easy for you. As long as you are in Slap Party, Old King is fine and he has a DSc, when you cross to UNP & Yahapalanaya, Ponny is fine and has Field Marshal. For you, New King does not exist and only mirage, so Mahesh Senanayaka may take orders from the (fictitious) Law and Order Minister Ponny.

There is saying in Tamil “If you have murdered a thousand, you are already half a Doctor.” Old Kind was conferred Doctor of War Crime by a Professor, Lasksiri Fernando and his university senate. The same team saw Ponny as a traitor and imprisoned him. New King’s son beat up a DIG’s son in a girl fight. To save his son’s life, New King has to risk his life and has to steal the EP title from Old King. As the Old King’s EP title was attached to his DSc and Hero title, they both have to be stolen if the EP tile theft has to be complete. Ponny was made as the Field Marshal by New King. So now Ponny is fine but Old King is neither Hero nor DSc any more.

Sarath Fonseka is a Field Marshall. He is live. He is above Mahesh Senanayake who is only Lt Genearl. Certainly when and where the Field Marshall can intervene and make appropriate adjustments to Lt Gen’s lunatic way of running the army.

  • 9

    Yes, Ajay.
    .
There is little point in examining the past with NO relation to the present. We are all sinners in the religious sense. Not one of us is perfect; we have all done something (may be things that don’t seem really to matter), in the past that we are grateful that now nobody remembers.
    .
I don’t think that I have committed any heinous crime; Fonseka was a soldier. He may have killed, or caused to kill. Let us leave the metaphysical aspects of that for him to settle. We respect him.
    .
The present Army commander has a job to do, and it may be that it is uncomfortable for him to have a man of Fonseka’s eminence breathing down his shirt. Let them settle that.

    .
However, one fact is that the present commander’s words have not endeared him to us. Let him take stock. Somebody else had adversely commented on his appearance: very unfair.
    .
Ultimately, I hold responsible the Yahapalanaya leaders. We have no need for a huge Army. Demobilisation is difficult – but it should have commenced by now. I have the common sense to realise that demobbing cannot mean a total halt to recruiting school leavers. However, what we still see is expansion. For example, why buy a warship?

    • 2
      0

      Dear Sinhala Man,
“We have no need for a huge Army. Demobilisation is difficult – but it should have commenced by now. I have the common sense to realise that demobbing cannot mean a total halt to recruiting school leavers.”
There are wheels within wheels. What would we do with (say) 250000 ex-servicemen? Would you like them, trained killers as they are, hanging around corners in your town? There are said to be 40,000 deserters anyway. It’s very unlikely that they would take to working in factories or building sites. Even the non-army types prefer 3-wheelers. Ideally, attrition should take its course, but the govt. is going for expansion. Maybe more jobs for the boys?

      • 2
        0

        oldcodger

There is also another important problem with demobilizing the armed forces. If you plan to reduce the size of the armed forces, you need to down size right across the armed forces including seeking early retirement from the officer class.

How would you make the Generals, Lt Generals, Major Generals, Brigadiers, Colonels, Majors, Captains, ………………………………….. happy if you are going to make them unemployed? Do you think the top ranking lazy bums are willing to work or find alternative employment? Its about their pride being pricked, the difference in pride, a General commanding 300,000 total members and parasite officer class and commanding 30,000 troops and much reduced number of officers.

Further problem arises from various suppliers, much reduced business and deflated profits for them. Generally supplies to state come with inflated prices. What should be their alternative market.
Build the roads, harbours, airports, and Mahaweli project all over again?

Political interference is nothing new in SL. Doesn’t the Army Commander has the guts to tell Fonseka where his authority ends? If the allegations are true & can be proved, the Army Commander can inform Fonseka legitimately through proper channels that he is no longer in the Army & not to interfere, even though, he maybe the highest ranking officer in the history of the army , instead of whining to the President.

Definitely this is mud slinging. On appointment to his role as the Commander of the Army, Mahesh S paid a courtsey visit to FM Fonseka, demonstrating his friendship and goodwill to the former commander and his former leader. It was well publicized in the media. We have not seen any evidence of this allegations, and I stronly believe that it is nothing but mud slinging, creating FAKE news to discredit the FM and to cause a rift between two old friends that have respect for each other. GR camp could well be behind this FAKE news, as we all know what his relationship was like during the war time and after. Pity that CT has fallen victim to FAKE news and publishing this crap as newsworthy and spreading doubts in people’s minds.

The Army Commander is talking as if no MP or Minister spoke to him before this event to ask for his supporters promotion. Sarath Fonseka should have been given the Law and Order Ministry. President Sirisena blocked it to protect the Rajapakse family. When the Commander himself does not follow the law of the land by giving requested information for prevailing court cases, how can he complain to the President that Sarath Fonseka is talking to him about army promotions?

I agree with the comment of Thrishu. This looks definitely a fake news and an attempt to create a rift between SF & Mahesh. We cannot believe it. Mahesh is not a shortsighted officer to act in the manner as stated in this news. He is an experienced Officer who will not stoop down to that level and complain to the President even if the allegations are genuine.

No it is not a rift. Probably, Mahinda Rajapakse wants SF this way. Then he won’t be a challenge during the presidential elections. NOne of the politicians do not like any opne capable or educated. They want only the O/L failed to be big mouth. Sajith Pemadasa is living on his dead father. Now, Navin dissanayake has started the same tune. These are visionary leaders we have. when not, It is the language or the religeon.

you can’t blame fonseka for being still interested in the army.It is his life.If he sees something not being done right in the army his passion for it will be triggered.Arjuna also had the same problem with cricket and was pointing things out when he could not control himself any more and the sports minister got damn wild.We have to understand that for these two men the passion runs deep.

It’s good that he exposed those stuff. If they are found guilty they should be hanged immediately. Only ponnayas like you support this cowardly act of the army.

        Deep
Exposed? It is any fool’s joy to accuse our Army according to their whims and fancies. When asked for evidence or source, they have nothing to say. Tell them to go to the courts if they can prove the allegation.

Army Commander Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake and former Army Commander Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka are not angels. Remember how Mahesh brags that he crushes skulls in routine operations. Native Veddha has given a summary of Sarath’s interview with Steven Bell of Canadian National Post.
President Maithripala Sirisena may not know angels but he has ample experience with devils.

“Sri lankan Army is doing lot of good charity work with poor Tamils in the north.”

Charity work should be done by charities not state employee during his/her official hours as an individual or group individuals, and not representing army.

If they are indeed idling and have nothing better to do let them replace Chinese convicts working for Chinese contractors on projects in this island.

I am told this country has a proud record of hydraulic engineering, the records seem to go back to 2200 years. However, all major construction projects are being contracted out to foreigners, as recently to Chinaman.

Will you stop your fellow Sinhala/Buddhis fascists gloating over 2500 years history?
Tell them to build sand castles first, then huts, then toilets, ………..

We’ve enough of this crap from Yahapalana bigwigs including Sarath Fonseka. The whole country is like a lunatic asylum under their ‘funny’ rule. Nobody know who runs what with whom and for what purpose. Thanks to Hilary et al including the infamous RAW; you guys finished both major political parties in Sri Lanka along with the TNA and the JVP, and it was done just with one brilliant shot in 2015. Those parties will never come to power but the fledgling flower bud will be the eye catcher at any election to come! After the next election, the UNP will be split and a new ‘green bud’ will emerge from the muddy Sirikotha.
Today, what the general people ask the current rulers and the so-called ‘official’ Opposition is to go home and fly a kite!
