The White House web site includes a place for people to express their opinions and advocate for action with an on-line petition initiative entitled “We the People ” Petitions which receive a certain number of on-line signatures will be reviewed by a U.S. official, who will respond to the petition’s sponsor. The existence of a petition on the site is neither an endorsement of the position advocated, nor a guarantee that the U.S. Administration will take action.”

This goes to show how stupid and dualistic Sri Lankans are. When the West points to HR violations they claim it is infringement on their sovereignty, but when they have nowhere to run for help, they ling on to something set up for implementation of democracy in another country and try to seek justice from their system!

US is unable to act on this petition because internationally there is no mandate for US to address an international issue based on a petition posted on a website meant purely for domestic purposes. What can really free Fonseka is the 10000-signature petition initiated by Ranil to be presented to UN HR body which is the internationally accepted and established body to address such problems.
However it totally rests on Fonseka to decide on his future political life and with whom he is going to join politically. So long as Fonseka remains indecisive or drifts towards Karu-Sajith partisan politics the main UNP political body and its vote base would not be interested in promoting the petition to release SF who has done several critical mistakes during his short political career and we hope at least now he would arrive at a wise decision without submitting to the conspirators in disguise loitering around him.
We have discovered all his family members and close friends have been deceived and brain-washed by conspirators and are no longer in a position to comprehend who is the foe and who is the fried! It is with the support of Ranil alone he would redeem himself, anything else a hopeless trap and a blunder!

Any signatory could use any name in the petition because the online form only required to have a valid email address. Those who planned to throw mud at the peaceful campiagn could very well mention other people’s names. We who promoted this petition condemn such cheap behavior, and apologize those reputed people whose names were abused by these groups whose origins can be guessed based on the way they try to vent out their frustration here. We did not have to promote bogus signatures nor try to bribe the state department (see US attorney’s office report: http://www.justice.gov/usao/nye/pr/2006/2006Aug21.html ) because enough numbers of genuinely concerned people volunteered to sign from across the Globe.
Obviously, some groups know that they can not continue to use peaceful people to do their seperatist politics if Sarath Fonseka is released. We do understand the pain.

I think it is time that General Fonseka get release and have rest of his life with his family away from this madness of power. Though I am very much against this imprisonment, I am no longer expecting and hoping that he the General becoming President as he does not have enough trust worthy people to run the country.
Regardless of our likeness, the current government is doing something as a team. One is covering for other regardless, it is good or bad. Getting them to do well should come from the people via various methods such as sathyagraha. Someone might said that how could you do such thing, when thugs of government henchmen are there to beat up the people. Remember, an eye to an eye. Even ruthless leaders in the history came down against the powers of people.
I think the day that Bharatha died, is the first day of end of this ruthless government if they are. Remember, an outsider does not have the knowledge of an insider and vise a versa.
The other important factor is there is no opposition that is strong to form a government. The UNP is in disarray and they need to come out of the hole that they were fallen. They must get rid of those officials are now in reign and put new fresh faces. Premadasa could make a good president if he comes with Dayasiri as his deputy. Ranil, if he ever cares for the country, must understand that he is not the only one who can do this task. If not, wait for 50 years of Rajapaksha rule. The way things are going, they could do well to the country if they lessen the corruption and get rid of it once and for all. Ha, Ha,
The other thing is bring forward a leader who is in the caliber of great Dudley Senanayake. Sorry, I could not find any SLFP leader in that caliber.
President, Rajapaksha, please release General Fonseka because you need to sleep well to become a great leader if you are wishing for that goal.

Signature numbers have exceeded by about 600. You can remove Rajapaksa Family and any other signatures supposed to be bogus, and then still you have required number of signatures for white house to proceed.
Our justice system is in trouble. Some Judges who are taking important decisions are supporters of the Government. They are not independent. If the justice cannot be expected from our system, not only SF, whole country will seek international intervention.
