No one in S.L dares to be independent and as such no award by the Arbitrator will be free from bias. Arbitrators are also human beings and they have their lives and families to think about

Arbitration is another delay tactic. The regime is using all the tricks in the book with FUTA – as it has also done on delaying a solution to power sharing with the minorities and PC elections in the north!
FUTA should up the ante and take the lead and call for the dismissal or SB and refuse to negotiate with a goon who is an insult to academics..

        Dayan:
You are probably right. However, what is also needed is TANGIBLE public support for FUTA, up to and inclusive of public fundraising to support a group that has now gone a couple of months without a pay-cheque.

Dr. Deepika Udagama explaining why arbitration is unacceptable………

    Well done Deepika.

When you were assistant to Mr R. S. Gunasekara in the UN Sub-commission on H/R in 90s, didn’t you do the same?

You were abritarly supressing the voice of many people, purely working on the agenda of the Sri Lanka Embassy in the UN in Geneva. You and R.S. Gunaseka were transported by the SL embassy vehicles in Geneva.

To be honest, please tell us, how many under-aged Sri Lankan army soldiers you have met personally, and how many cases you brought to attention of the the public or UN Child care units? We have the count.

Before you lecture others, do put your house in order.

You ask yourself why arbitration is unacceptable!

We can go on about your profile, how you lobbied against the voice of the Tamil people. On the SL government agenda, your visit to Vanni to gather information and to become friendly with some women in Vanni, etc.

Please do remember there are Watch dogs!

THERE WAS MASS EXODUS OF LECTURERS IN 1982 BECAUSE LOWER SALARY AND GOVT. FELT IT. THEN WE WERE SENT LETTERS BY PREMADASE GOVT ASKING US TO COME BACK AFTER INCREASING THE SALARY OF A SENIOR LECTURER FROM 1500 TO 2500. THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION I SUGGEST FOR LECTURERS. I STAYED 19 YEARS ABROAD I DON’T REPENT ON WHAT I HAVE DONE.

Today, most lecturers are selfish. You forget their duties. Some lecturers do good job, but others disturbing them. These people are not allow to people who willing to do research. Because, they are not doing good research. Most of these useless lecturers do their own jobs such as tuitions, working in private universities, running business ect. Most talented university teachers already left the country and others are looking for doing same. Useless and selfish people will remain in the Sri Lankan universities. They will prevent well qualified new blood coming to the universities.

Ask them to leave. Only 1% will find jobs in foreign universities. No research publications to show them

Dons of Universities demands are just and fair; it must confined to improved living conditions Don’s life.Having demands afflication and ramification political agend, not gain any return and it will enrich Anarchism in society. It has been leads to be promating destabilization of Sri Lankan society.

IT HAS NOT REPERESNATED natioanl demortaic asprtation of PEOPLE of Sri Lankan.
Principally MR & UNFA are working on nation-orinted democratic era. And they( MR & Ruling Party) represent majority supressed classes including politicis of Natioanl bourgeisois. As a whole Natioanl Bourgeiosis foundation of society and our economy base is concern very very weak.MR underledership look apperance is powerful but in essance is weak ,its has no INDUSTRAIL BASE. Base on plantaion Agriculture and Poor Rural economy and Export of Manpower. Large part of Economy foundation is not solid.

please note that the government has stopped all discussions with FUTA. No more can be expected as FUTA refuses everything, even the cabinet paper. Basil R got embarrassment and decided not to involve in this anymore. President shut down the talks with strikers. This FUTA still says since they are in talks with govt, arbitration cannot be accepted. One party cannot do discussions when they refuse everything as D.Amila wants to change the regime.

Very soon majority will come for work. We are watching.

I think the govt just wanted to put up a show that were conducting discussions while not really willing to give anything. Since the FUTA was not fooled by their tricks the govt has got embarrassed.

Respected teachers!!!!!!!!!! you all have climbed up the social ladder and come to this respected position through education provided by the government.. you all have a contributive responsibility to continue it and grant it to the next generations …as a student sorry to remind you this but the respect for you is already gone…when we were the victims of students union our teachers advised us not to involve in strike because it would harm our future….dear teachers what are you doing now???? you know that government can’t dismiss you like CEB workers because you are academics who have been given scholarships and transferred to this position and you know that there are no substitutes for you all…so you don’t mind taking any risk against your job…because government has already given the assurance for it….now we are in a position where you all were before ten years ago. I curse the people who continue this and still worship who try to understand the students situation than their personal living conditions….your living conditions will improve over the death bodies of poor students who kept trust on education to support the poor condition of the family….

So you want the FUTA to just come back to work even though the university intake has been increased by around 5000 students with no correspeonding increase in funding for education? This is precisely the sort of issue the FUTA is talking about.

      • 0
        0

So FUTA is fighting for 6% of GDP for education to allocate it for this new intake with excess 5000 students.funding for it will automatcally be allocated. I entered uni with two batches at once and you didn’t ask for a increment in GDP. This 6% which you are asking for is of GDP but not of the money allocated for government expenses..i understand that education is very important and need increase in funding but it should be gradually. If you are asked to allocate 6% of your salary for children’s education at once will you be able to do that.at the same time if it is difficult you will not stop their education but will try to manage by increasing a considerable amount now. You have brainwashed some small group of students foolishly and let those Muppets dance for you on the roads .They don’t realise this because they believe the lecturers words as god’s words. But you better ask from yourself if this is correct?????

Unfortunately, SL people criticise about all the others except politicians and head of the state. Don’t they have a duty for the people? Innocent people just go there and vote for the very corrupt people again and again. Democracy is not a ruling mechanism for the country. That is for countries with enlightened masses. Fool Paradise.

During JR time in early 80s we completed the degree in 4 years and able to do some work to look after our parents before they die. Unfortunately my daughter who study in a local university has no chance to complete the degree in 4 years and meet her objectives in life. University dons are a special group in our society and we do not expect them to get to street fights. Already we have too many student protests and infights. These are signs of indicipline. FUTA should set an example to others by solving problems through negotiations and persuations rahter than fighting.
Hope they will thame the government by using other means and not by traditional distructive stricks like some bus drivers.

Dr Deepika Udagama, having poltical and educational exprinces in your life,I think FUTA has gone beyond its limits of economic demands?Once your father was head of Ministry Of Eduaction as well as Senior Don in University of Peradeniya. Why don’t your learn lessons form his exprinces.
We cannot meet demand of 6% GDP increased of for education ,the very reason is our fundamental economy is weak and not base on Induatraial capital. We are still Plantaition Economy,Light and Interdidaited industraies ( Garment) Rural Economy with poor mecinization and low output return of harvest of cropes in two seasons are internal base.
Additional to that EXPORT OF MANPOWER TO OVERSEES,GETTING LARGE AMOUNT OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE.
Our pesant are poverty level of 60%; ,rural poverty wide sprade not yet address by Bourgeisois political class since even after 1956.
State of Island and its goverance rule by bulk of Rich in citites and Rich in Western Hegemony monolopies. There are certian bunch of New Rich origin and grow since 1977 of Neo-Liberial bourgesios are shifitng power groupe in time change of center of UNP and SLFP.
The 30 years war had an oppounitythen to become fast track- rich than before.incuding some are Sinhales and Tamil & Mualims are belongs to NEW SET OF RICH IN COLOMBO.
This is undoubaly this process occur since even after 1956 up to now.
Leader and politiacl parties in power what ever SLFP or UNP work according to NOT INTERSET VAST NUMBER OF MASSES BUT FOR RICH OF FEW.
This syastem has not change even after MR and party being to power 2004 or end of War 2009 May.
Public Education and Public Health has been under mine by GDP is truth.
But tell me no altanative policies originiated by Groupe of Progressive ELIETS IN UNIVERSITIES OR OUTSIDE or NEW POLITICAL MOVEMENT.
Take all facts into consideration I would like to proposed FUTA need to confine to Improved thier living conditions time being!
There is positive trend of FUTA slip into to anarchist uncertanities.
In my view I don’t want see Dons of OUR Universies meet such TRAGEDY.

First JVP oriented student union sabotaged university activities. Then minor staff. Thereafter the lecturers. What is the meaning of this? These three groups are equally responsible for destruction of education.

Sri Lanka gives free education in universities. THis system should be change. Government offer scholarships for bright students and universities has to operate under trusty independently. Students who has minimum qualification and willing heigher studies should enroll as paying students. At present, students does not care this free education. Teachers can not get good salary according to their qualifications and experience. If Sri Lanka has good private universities, people from middle class would like to send their children to such universities. Unfortunately, there is no quality private universities in Sri Lanka. Private universities also should not profit making, they should operate as trusty and reinvest their profits. Lahore university in Pakistan is a good example.

JVP born to destroy all movements and misled youth, that is originial-policy of Wijeweera of JVP. JVP EVER-NEVER CHANGE PRINCIPLE UNTIL ITS TOTALLY UPROOTED FOR OUR SOIL.
Policy of JVP anarcism come form name of “Socialism”.
But we have another problems and demand of FUTA are diffrent from JVP’s politics.MR and Party should address Fair and Just demands of FUTA.Here is MR and Party of ruling class, NO WAY TO ESCAPE FROM THE RIGHTS OF UNIVERSITY DONS IMPROVED LIVING CONDITION AND WORKING CONDITIONS AS WELL.THIS IS RIGHTS OF LIVING OF FUTA ITS MEMBERS , MUST BE ACCOMODATED BY MR AND PARTY.
WITHOUT DRAGING SITUATION GOVT. HAS FIND AMICABLE SOLUATION WITHOUT FUTHER DEALY.
MR MUST WITHDREW STATEMANT ” UNTIL STOP STRIKE, NO DISCUSSION POLICY” IS NOT TALLY WITH MANDATE DEMOCRACY!
