Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the Rajapaksa regime’s most powerful official has returned to the United States where he is scheduled to hold meetings with United Nations officials in New York.

The Defence Secretary whose visit to America – where he is a citizen – has remained under wraps, held secret discussions with UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Elisson on Monday (16).
Requests for a briefing about the meeting at UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s end of the year press conference were denied citing that read outs were not usually provided for meetings with the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, New York’s Innercity Press reports.
The high level meeting has come as a major shock to UN observers given Gotabaya Rajapaksa‘s role in alleged war crimes haunting the Rajapaksa regime and the allegation by UN experts that 40,000 Tamil civilians were killed in the war’s final months.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa also undertook a top secret visit to New Delhi recently, where he met with Indian National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid. It was his first visit to New Delhi since taking up the top post in his brother’s administration.

If Tamil diaspora thinks that the western and UN backed pressure is going to bring SL to its knees and at the same time it may help create them an independent homeland as a result, they will be bitterly disappointed. Any internationally acceptable investigation is unlikely to hand over a Tamil homeland on a platter based on the findings, no matter how bad these findings are for the government. In this situation the LTTE will find themselves accused of the similar or worst crimes and most likely it may lead to arrest of large number of terrorists hiding behind LTTE front organisations in western countries. At the same time, if the findings of an investigation are adequately dealt with and concluded, the Tamil diaspora will find themselves in a similar situation as the Free Syrian rebels faced now.
The West and USA are no “fools” to work towards disintegrating SL. One has to keep in mind that, these are the countries, apart from china and India that helped SL government to wipe out tigers by providing weapons and intelligence. If West wants to break up SL now, why wouldn’t they have done it then without complicating the matters now. These countries work according to their own agenda and not because they love LTTE and their agents and or their sympathisers. However, they may not have thought of the far reaching consequences of short term gains by their actions now.
Tamil Homeland in Sri Lanka should never be allowed. why?. It will create far reaching consequences and will adversely effect and threaten the sovereignty, integrity and security of both SL and India. It will also give the Tamil Nadu government an upper hand in dealing with and to manipulate the Indian central government in matters common to Tamils living in both sides of the boundaries which will, most likely lead to fuel pro-divisional sentiments in Tamil Nadu years from now, possibly leading to creationion of a one single homeland within both countries. if this happens, It will threaten access to natural resources in the ocean controlled by both countries and potentially effect the rights of access to Palk Straights to local navies.
As for SL, Any independent state in SL will automatically create an influx of Tamils over the years from Tamil Nadu (by invitation) to newly created homeland in order to populate Jaffna. IMAGINE AN INDEPENDANT TAMIL COUNTRY IN SRI LANKA, WITH TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT PLAYING THE BIG BROTHER ROLE, DICATING TO TWO STRATEGICALLY IMPORTANT NATIONS?
I don’t think the west and other countries like Canada, UK, SA and Australia wants to put themselves in a position where their governments are being dictated by a large Tamil diaspora backed by small group of people aligned to a terrorists organisation who are more sensitive to matters outside local issues and vote accordingly in local elections and federal elections?. West should stop and think seriously as to what they are trying to create and the consequences of their actions in the long term. This will be very dangerous situation for any government to put themselves through. British and Canadian prime ministers are already showing signs of caving into these elements and acting in a manner never seen in the history of world politics. This is only a storm in a tea cup.
Covert independent investigations carried out by west knows very well that 40,000 people “killed” by Troops is simply a cooked up story and was initiated by few UN employees, backed by the big boys simply to warn SL to “stay within boundaries” or else we will make your life difficult. SL must never give into this type of pressure, but conduct itself with dignity whilst doing the great balancing act of walking a tightrope between China and the west and not fall entirely under the Chinese spell, which is the main cause of these problems.
SL must carry out an impartial internal independent investigation with the help of a locally initiated commission comprising of local high court judges representing all communities. Truth and Reconciliation Commission (SA model) will then seek advice based on the commission findings, to augment its own findings and to make final recommendations to the nation, to which Government on the day should be committed to abide by. Police and land powers should be diluted within the federal framework with the central parliament having the final say in more complex matters. Eg: provincial state police department should comes under ministry of defence and land with natural resources, crown land and land for infrastructure development, public infrastructure projects such as roads, foreign investment should be handled by the federal government. No direct foreign aid should be channelled to PC.

The fervent wish of the Lankan Tamils, even as late as today, is to remain part of the 1948 Nation their leaders helped to install. It is the Sinhala side – lead by venomous racial bigots in their Buddhist priesthood – who sowed the seeds of the growing division in and around 1952. This resulted in the Sinhala Only flood-gates in 1956 that went to harm every other community – including both Sinhala Christians and even Buddhists. The contribution of this friendly and accommodative community – free of the many prejudices that enslave some of our cultures – went out to enrich our legal fraternity, Medical services, Sports, Music and many other. In my visits to Australia, North America, the UK I run into some of them in social functions. They carry fond memories of what they still consider their Home. Some of them, in the evening of their lives, have brought apartments-houses here in recent times and have to come here to retire “to enjoy the warmth, conviviality and be part of our Sri Lankan friends” Many of them still refer to Ceylon – nostalgically.
I think the Govt should review restoring at least one Nominated List position inParliament to the Burgher community so that they could be made welcome and remain part of our colourful national fabric.

War crime video was passed to the world by State media : Hence govt. unable to sue channel 4 -Kiriella
(Lanka-e-News-17.Dec.2013, 11.30PM) UNP leadership council member and M.P. Lakshman Kiriella revealed to Lanka e news that the video footage regarding the Sri Lanka (SL) war crimes was passed to channel 4 by none other than the government media itself , and it is why the government is stymied and unable to institute legal action against channel 4 . It is therefore only just wasting time by just blabbering and screaming against it.
It is only the state media that were allowed to be in the frontline during the final phase of the war , and therefore not only the channel four , but even the other foreign media too was able to publish them since the SL state media sources sold these video footages to them on the sly, he added.
To illustrate his point , Kiriella referred to the conduct of State television channel reporter , Samankumara Ramawickremage who covered the war front . This reporter had covered the events via two cameras , and while sending the reports of one camera to the State media had also transmitted the reports covered by the other camera via the satellite to the foreign media channels, based on information disclosed by other reporters who were in the war front with him.
Kiriella went on to point out that Al Jazeera media too reported on the war scenes at the same time ; and if those were based on copies of the reports of the SL state media , they should have had the State media emblem , but as the emblem was not there in those reports , it is testimony that a facsimile of the report sent to the government media had been forwarded to the foreign media too clandestinely. The government which is fully aware therefore that other reports and video footages of the war too may have been sent across to the foreign media surreptitiously is unable to open its mouth and expose the truth , Kiriella observed.
The government which is guilty , after becoming aware of the true facts , removed the video footages that were in the State national TV channels and entrusted to the custody of the defense Ministry . Having come to know that it is its own media that has made these gross betrayals (following in the footsteps of the regime which is also notorious for betraying the people after coming to power on false and hollow promises ) , it has only one option , that is camouflage the scenario by making loud announcements only of filing action against the channel 4 while slyly refraining from taking such action, Kiriella pinpointed.
Kiriella regretted that , when he revealed these facts in Parliament on December 2nd and 7 th , not one Minister or M.P. of the government could furnish an answer , and added that it is the government itself that paved the way for the war crime incriminations, and is therefore the architect of its misfortunes.
In the joint communiqué issued on 29 th May 2009 when UN secretary Ban Ki Moon visited SL , it was stated the government acknowledged and agreed to hold a war crime investigation.
Kiriella commenting further said , when he made these disclosures in Parliament , the foreign Minister in response denied it , and quoted only the first sentence of the joint communiqué , but when Kiriella referred to the last sentence in the communiqué and wanted him to read it , the Minister remained silent . In the last sentence the SL government has clearly agreed to conduct a war crime investigation , Kiriella noted.
It is not that a foreign Minister like Dr. G .L. Peiris does not know a joint communiqué means a communiqué issued with the concurrence of both parties , Kiriella emphasized.
