Sri Lanka’s controversial former secretary to the ministry of defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa has come forward to help rescue the country from its current administration.

Addressing Sri Lankans living in Japan via Skype, Gotabaya yesterday said that, “if mistakes were made we should learn from them and help Sri Lanka recover from its current fallen state, and I am happy to help rescue this country,” he told the forum.
He also denied any connections with the Bodu Bala Sena, saying it was due to these false rumours that his brother, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa lost the election as Muslims voted against him.
“I can categorically state that neither did Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government or I worked in any way to bring injustice to the Muslims and Tamils in Sri Lanka,” said Rajapaksa, who takes credit for the war win against the LTTE and also have been embroiled in the white van abduction saga.

In a bid to unite the different factions of the SLFP, its senior members would urge President Maithripala Sirisena to solicit the support of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa by offering him a key position, it is learnt.
A few senior members, including those holding Ministerial posts in the Government, have decided to advocate this idea, as a patch-up between the President and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, which looks a distant possibility at the moment.
A senior member told the Daily Mirror on condition of anonymity that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former President’s brother, sounded acceptable to both factions of the party and therefore he could be the best bet to hold the party united.
“There is some resistance against some members of the Rajapaksa family. As far as we are concerned, there is no resistance against Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” the member said.
“He is admired by many over his role in ending the war and the development of urban areas,” the senior member said.
The sources added that Gotabaya Rajapaksa could assist the President in pursuit of the country’s interests, if he were offered a post.
A group of senior members held a meeting a week ago and decided that a role for Gotabaya Rajapaksa would help unite the SLFP. They are now planning to make representations to the President in that regard. (Kelum Bandara)

Rescue SL from some one?. This goes to show that Rajapaksas’ coming back to power is dependent upon how hard they exaggerate and dramatize the prevailing situation under MS is a threat to SL’s sovereignty. Obviously, they cannot achieve their goals without being incited some fear in the minds of majorities and by insinuating racism and hatred towards minorities. This was what they were trying to do engaging Gnanasara to antagonize Muslims so they would lead the path Tamil youth did, as they knew aftermath of 2009, flogging a weaken Tamil youth alone would not get them votes in south. Whatever Gota says now about Gnanasara, average Joe knows what was on the card then, he was trying hard to push the Muslim Youth to the brink of taking arms. They were so confident that making Muslims as the next target/threat to deal with would win them the next term without any minorities’ votes. Luckily, they couldn’t fool all the majorities as they imagined, a minority of the majority clearly saw the need to rescue SL from a gang and joined hands with minorities. Result is, we see Gota enjoying the freedom of expression, which is a good thing but we couldn’t enjoy it when he was in power. So gage, he didn’t want to say in active that we made some mistakes, instead trying to fool by saying If mistakes were made we should learn, not specific about who made the mistake or who this we that should learn, leave aside his categorizing murders as mere mistakes. If he has learnt a lesson or two, he is expected to show a sign of feeling at least some remorse to what he did, including pushing our friendly nations to put our country on notice for what he did immediate aftermath of the war, behaving in a way that was unbecoming of a former soldier, perhaps that is what he has been referring to rescue SL from, because he thinks finding as to what had actually happened for those who surrounded with white flags would tarnish SL image rather than clear its image, and fear will backfire on him, hence his appeal to Japan diaspora is to rescue him on the name of the nation, he knew his audience have understood it.
