And the dead can’t be mourned in North & South.

Now the South is getting a taste of what the folks in the north have lived with all along since the defeat of the LTTE terrorists, it has been State Terrorism by the so called security forces. From the Devil they were thrown to the deep blue sea in the north!
Time for the South to wake up and form a united front against the Rajapakse dictatorship before it is too late.

This is what one may refer to as a dictatorship. Opposition members and their supporters being shot at and killed, journalists being kidnapped and killed, and absolutely no one held responsible, and the present leadership keeps committing crimes against the Sri Lankan people.
No wonder the international community has called for investigations for human rights violations, and no wonder the Rajapaksa’s are determined to stop it.
Sri Lanka is a democracy in name only.

Gotabaya the White Van goon is responsible and should be sacked. He thinks that he’s entitled to run the country since he like to pretendt that he won the war — after locking SF up and having a book written claiming that he was the saviour of Lanka!
Gota should be white vanned and sent to the Hague. What is the stupid diaspora doing: they should first file a case in the US.

While the role of the Magistrate of the area to ensure the maintenance of law and order cannot be questioned, one wonders if he has not overstepped his role in threatening the family from observing usual practises connected with a death of this nature. Both who lost their lives were politically inclined and were part of the JVP. Naturally, they will have friends and relatives whose emotions will be high here.
The Magistrate should have been more vocal in getting the Police to arrest the obvious main culprit. Everyone in the area seem to know who he is – except the Police and his protectors.

This is a dangerous incident which one hopes does not spread. Battles between two different groups can be deadly and dangerous.

It seems that, the Director General of the Media Center for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle said today that he had proof to believe that the cause of the shooting in Katuwana was due to an internal conflict within the JVP.

But, the Police removes even the white flags!! We all know whom the Police works for!!

    Hate to say it. Yet..!

Life would have been far better had SL continued to be a British colony.

We would had atleast had rule of law and a transparent administration. Despite the insult of being governed from London.

Since Independence competing, corrupt, power-hungry family clans and their cronies have been ripping Sri Lanka apart for their dynastic ambitions.

Behaviour of the ruthless Rajapakse clan is the latest manifestation of that recent history of our country.

You have a point here. It seems many former Asian and African colonies, who fought for independence, have shown that they are unable to govern, and run, their own countries. There is turmoil, strife, dictatorships, and one leader after another coming in fleecing their country, and leaving after doing nothing for their people.
Sri Lanka is no exception. It is disgraceful how the country is run, with the present leader and his family is ruling the roost and shamefully fleecing this nation.

    Dear Ben Hurling,

The Brits (in the form of Sir Ivor Jennings) knew what the coming colours are going to be. He knew the more adventerous and unprincipled of the Sinhala leadership drown the minorities when the time is right – and, therefore, he wrote in the Entrenched clause of Section 29C. The Nation maintained its territorial integrity from 1948 to 1972 despite the communcal convulsions of 1956. But Colvin appeared to want to please Mrs B and the Sinhala hawks in the 1970 UF Govt and did away with the good Constitution of Jennings. We reaped the whirlwind we sowed since then. The bleeding has not stopped since. Have we gathered the wisdom and capacity to rise from the fall since then? Your answer, Sir, is as good as mine.
Are we not a nation (so far one nation, that is) that habitually wakes up to regret after the horse has bolted. We have no other alternative but to wait and see.

“Have we gathered the wisdom and capacity to rise from the fall since then?”

With due respect to you may I point out that Sri Lankans and wisdom don’t mix, both are mutually exclusive.

Dear Police uncle. We know that the government is using you to do their dirty work. We know that you have a family to look after and this is the only income you have. That’s why the government is exploiting you even when you know there is no justice and honesty in what you are doing. Very soon MR will stir up a rift between you and the public where it could lead to a catastrophe similar to 1983. We kindly tell you not to fall into this trap and to do your duty according to your conscious safeguarding the citizen, because it is citizens tax money that you are paid and not MR’s personal bank account. Please safeguard the voiceless people when time of need. Thank you.

Banning the holding of funerals according to the wishes of the relatives of the deceased is an immoral, uncivilised and inhuman ruling.True there may be anti-government posters, but what of it? It would be a protest against murder by a known criminal who had the sympathy/protection of the police only for political reasons. This ruling held sway in the earlier funeral of the free trade zone worker shot dead by the police too. No policeman was convicted of that killing.
Magistrates appear totally subserviant also to demands of police with regard to remanding persons, without even ascertaining the facts of the case by private conversation with accused before consideration of any remand/bail ruling,as reqired by law.
The judiciary is now directly under the president and thus submissive to the regime.
There is only “justice” according to the police, and not accordng to the law.The many deaths of persons held in custody appear uninquired into. The latest one is reported today.
