The government said today it will go ahead with replacing military personnel with police personnel for former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, despite his request not to change his security detail.

Rajapaksa, is reported to have said that military security was necessary because there was still threats to his life. However, Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said that Rajapaksa’s military security will be replaced with police and STF, and his military security will be withdrawn.
The government also announced earlier that the military security provided for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will also be removed and replaced with police and STF.
The decision to replace all VIP security with police instead of military was taken by the Security Council. The government claimed that the security detail of the President and Prime Minister comprised only of police and not of military personnel.

What is his problem with STF? Special Task Force was trained by Israeli and British SAS special forces in many things including specialization in VVIP security.
