Govt. Says Not Afraid Of Tamil Protests, Declares Army Camps In North Won’t Be Removed

Amidst continuing protests by Tamils in the North demanding the military to vacate lands belonging to civilians, the Government today ruled that it will at no cost remove the Army Camps in the province.

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene declared that, “We will not remove the Army Camps in the province.”

He made this statement at an event in Rantambe today. Wijewardene also said that his Government was not afraid of such demonstrations. “They can shout all they want, but we reiterate that we will not remove the camps,” he said.

He also added that even though a small group was creating unnecessary issues; the Government will go ahead with its reconciliation process. A group led by Northern Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran has been demanding the Government to remove all military camps in the province. Some of the protesters at the demonstration were seeing carrying placards saying “Sri Lankan Army get out of Tamil land.”

    Dear MS

If you are serious bout reconciliation first find a political solution. The ethnic problem started when the Tamil region had industires , before army occupation of private property and army initiated buddhisization

is the only reason to keep SL card board army in mass in North-East because it is this card board army act as distributors ..wholesalers ,,retailers for drugs so money flow to Colombo.

Before 2009 May in N-E even young girls were able to walk alone during night ?

Now looting..robbery ..thuggery ..merder..rape ,,prostitution ,brothels all flourish day by day ,in N-E ,this is the beauty of situation because of SL card board army.

Exactly Big Nose J R and Foxford educated Mudali created the same situation in 70 s ,,,,he he he soon SL Sinhala Card Board Army was unable to leave their camps.

    Cheers

Before 2009 the Jaffna was fully under military control even during Chandrika’s time.

Do you mean to say that once the NPC came into power things have got worse and better to leave the administration to the army?

The mind set of the majoritarian Sinhala regimes from the time of independence was to clean the Tamils from the Sinhala Buddhist Country. The genocide spree let loose on the Tamils all over Sri Lanka is now being carried out in the North and East, the native lands of the Tamils. It is here all the escaped Tamils took refuge. After all the success the UNP and the SLFP Sinhala majoritarian Governments had in annihilating Tamils, how will the mind set change to give up the genocide now? The political solutions have been thrown down the drain long time now. The climax and the last phase of completion of the genocide is yet to be celebrated.
