Gypsies Sunil Fears Mahinda Will Kill Him If Elected

Sunil Perera the famous musician and leader of the band Gypsies said that he fears for his life if the Mahinda Rajapaksa led UPFA party wins the upcoming General Elections and comes back into power.

The ‘bring back Mahinda movement” has only one objective ‘Paliganeema’ or ‘revenge’ said musician Sunil Perera in an interview with Swarnavahini, a local television station.

Sunil Perera

Sunil Perera

The famous musician fearlessly went on a tirade against the former President Rajapaksa’s party members, even calling them thieves and murderers who are protected by a man who is greedy for power and who even made every attempt to continue to stay in power forever. He in fact praised the good work done by Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna for factually exposing the misdeeds and corruption of the Rajapaksa regime and helping in orchestrating the current change of freedom Sri Lankans now experience.”I am surprised that Dissanayake is still alive right now and I also doubt if this is the real Anura Kumara Dissanayake who is among us at present” he went on to say.

“Take the late Nelson Mandela from South Africa for example. He came into power, served his time and handed over the reigns to the younger generation to take the country forward. Mahinda Rajapaksa should take a cue from our very own cricketing global icons in Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara. They too relinquished their captaincies and authority and groomed a youngster to take over”.

“We gathered together and ousted Rajapaksa on the 8th of January 2015 and I really cant understand as to why the current President Maithripala Sirisena even went on to give him a nomination to contest the upcoming general elections. We have to rally together one more time and defeat him for good” went on the famous band leader of the Gypsies.

The Sirisena – Wickremesinghe government is doing things the correct way to punish those corrupt officials of the former regime. “You cant complete an inquiry and prosecute them in a few months. It takes time. Perhaps if the roles were reversed Rajapaksa would have thrown everyone into jail as and when he pleased. We saw him do it to our current Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka”.

“Please scrutinize the ill gotten wealth of the politicians in your area and if they have big houses and expensive cars, that means that those were all ill gotten wealth. Don’t vote for them as they will continue to plunder this country”. He went on to say that even one Minister openly confessed that he had sold his car permit for Rs 15 million to a third party. The government should stop the issuing of vehicle permits to politicians as it is not necessary. Give them a car and fuel just to do their work whilst in office he went on. ” These are the very same politicians who are now distributing money to the poor to garner their votes. It is only they that play ” Rajapksa won the war” ticket drumming up support to bring the former president back.

Perera also went on to say that the fathers who stole money would end up making the mother’s of their children weep as they will be punished for their acts of corruption, theft and murder. ” Even though the politicians of the former regime do have their children educated overseas, it is been funded with ill gotten wealth. Their children and their children’s children will all suffer the consequences for this” said Perera.

Perera also touched on the subject where Journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge and the mother and daughter from Kotakadeniya who were slaughtered and slain. He said that those murderers were still at large and even though they are currently escaping being punished on earth, they cannot escape the punishment that would be meted out to them from the heavens. It was the same fate that Mahinda Rajapaksa suffered when he was ousted from power in January. ” Even the life of a foreigner was not spared when they killed Britisher Khurram Skeikh” he said.

We now have freedom to express ourselves and we can even slander the President or Prime Minister fearlessly as there is a judiciary who will punish us if we are wrong. During the time of the the Rajapksa rein we could not say a word.

We need systems and procedures in place and we must also find ways to stop politicians from crossing over from one party to another to suit their own benefits.

“The power should remain with the people and not with the politicians. We would not hesitate to gather once again and throw out even our Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe if he is wrong” said Perera.

The great majority of Sri Lankan politicians are corrupt and both Mahinda Jarapassa and Ranil Wickramasinghe are responsible for the culture of Impunity and immunity that protects the politicians.

Have any of these criminals in the Diyawenna Parliament been yet tried and convicted? Sajin, Basil, Duminda Silva, Mervin Silva, not to mention Ranils Central Bank crook and Insider Trader Mahendran and the clown and gambler Muzamil who is Mayor of Colombo?

Sunil should warn the people that the battle to clear up politics and ensure Economic and Social Justice for all in Sri Lanka has only just begun. Because once Jarapassa is defeated, Ravi K, Ranil and Mahendran are all set to screw us over and deprive us of Economic and social rights in their about turn from China’s deadly aid to Jarapassa for his ZZHambantota white elephants ..!
Between Devil and Deep blue sea, there seems to be no balance?!

Hope MY3 Sirisena will wake from slumber start campaigning for ECONOMIC JUSTICE AN RIGHTS and get rid of Mahendran and start investigation of Mahinda Jarapassa’s economic hit man – Nivard Cabraal and the theft of EPF funds..

The neo-liberal, neo-con Economic hit men juggernaut is in place under Ranil..
and the Sri Lanka masses are between the devil and deep blue sea! Economic and social rights vs. Civil and Political. Why cannot they get it ALL balanced and right?

We need a new Central Bank Governor. Dr. Dushni Weerakoon or Dr. Saman Kelegama from IPS would be able to set about cleaning up the CB.

“The great majority of Sri Lankan politicians are corrupt and both Mahinda Jarapassa and Ranil Wickramasinghe are responsible for the culture of Impunity and immunity that protects the politicians.”

It is a question of the Lesser of the Two Evils.

RW is Bad, Not good, but Mahinda Rajapaksa is Ugly.

RW will NOT kill Sunil, but Mahinda Rajapaksa will KILL Sunil.

      That is the Difference.

Sri Lanka Version of Common sense Phamplet? Any Takers.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_(pamphlet)

      Common Sense (pamphlet)

Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. The pamphlet explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in clear, simple language. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places.

Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2] As of 2006, it remains the all-time best selling American title.[3]

Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[4] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[5] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.[6]

Jackson anthonies public speech delivered in the stadium made Rajapakshe a King for no valid reasons. Today, he has become the king to have robbed poor people s funds. There, Sunil Perera articulates it as no others, we can be proud of this kind of brave men actually, May be he has nto had political science degree but his multi faceted thinking can outreach common man easily.

There is nothing to worry for Sunil Perera because nobody kills rattlesnakes. A Majority of the people in Sri Lanka don’t even know that he exists.

Sunil must be out of shows. It is becoming a popular habit of some bankrupt politicians to challenge Mahinda or make some stupid remarks involving him in order to get noticed. I never knew that Sunil is also on the verge of extinguishing.

Mahinda Rajapaksa is larger than life. Sunil Perera is just a minion when comparing to Mahinda’s towering personality. I remember one of his OWN songs, the story of the drunk little Mouse who challenged the Cat. Sunil reminds me of that little toss-pot Mouse.

On his behalf, I will reproduce below the best part of his song which Sunil will tell Mahinda when he is sober:

    [Edited out]

Mahinda is an extraordinarily strong Statesman. Lies, slandering and cheap shots by a simian like Sunil don’t affect a great person like Mahinda at all.

What a joker? Mahinda doesn’t even have the slightest similarity to any of those 6 names.

Cutting and pasting names don’t give any help to prove one’s arguments. Supun should practice some brain teasers to improve his mental sharpness.

Those guys of your kind would stay rotten even if your lovely ones would have been raped out. THat is your nature simply saying, but Suni Pereras would do nothing to loose their self respect….

Today the country is devided into two groups

      a) The educated

      b) The uneducated

Former woudl fight against restoring peace and harmony and civlized way of life back to thhe routine while the latter woudl even sell themselves for a bath/rice packets.

I have no doubt, those who enjoy social media will post more about their praises of the kind of open talks added by great great singlers such as SUni P. Nobody would not disgree that Sunil says, that he can earn as much as he can if he would stage with politicians today. But he would do so , since he has his own way of life. That says everything sir, YOUR kind should be masters to this nation which is rotten by materials and lawlessness to this date:

There is hardly any Sri Lankan who doesn’t know Sunil Perera. Even if one doesn’t listen to him singing, all have seen him in ads.

I’ve heard his songs; after reading this fatastically comprehensive message to voters, I think I must actually listen to his songs. I’m no musician, but I began fairly early in life to complement my book-worm habits by listening to Bach and Mozart and Beethoven – oh and also Franz Schubert has been a great favourite.

So, I don’t really go for pop music; but one can’t be unaware of the music of the Beetles, or Abba, – or, in Sri Lanka of Sunil Shantha or Sohan, or Mariazelle – and of course, M.I.A. (who says so many unkind things about us Sinhalese: I wish she wouldn’t, but she has to be persuaded not to). And so, I tell you, Champa, that Sunil Perera is very well known.

And since what he says of MaRa is absolutely true, he is an infinitely more valuable human being than our Deposed Dictator. Champa, your very retort proves that this statement of his will”affect . . . Mahinda” a very great deal. Yes, we must be particularly careful about whom we elect to our legislature!

On Sunil’s behalf, I reproduce below the best part of his song which the famous toss-pot Mouse will tell Mahinda when he is sober and plead for mercy, according to the song:

      “Honoured Sir, The Mighty Mahindaaaa….
please do not pay any heed…
      to my little banter…………..
      after downing a …..little…..booze”

      Chorus

I was just trying to…….. blow some strength to Ranil ……..
who landed a big clout….. with the T Bond scam ……….
his morale is sub zero……… his vitality is very low ………
Above all Sir ………… your Parawa and Pariah joke ……
hit him very hard Sir ……………..

Oh, I beg of you Sir, Mahinda the Great ……..
please kill me …. for the sake of Ranil …….
or …. at least ……. please threaten to kill me, Sir …..
      It is a great help .. Sir…..
Please don’t blow any more gale Sir ….
Ship is sinking ….. Sir…. our …. ship is sinking ……

          Sama,

Agree. Rajapassa suffocation is over. Though it is trying to make a desperate comeback. Through backdoors of Kurunegala.

Sense of freedom felt by the people is self-evident. How refreshing. We must savor this moment while it lasts. We must not take it for granted. We have a long way to go still.

This is a direct outcome of the 8th January silent revolution. I give MY3 due credit for that.

There is no need to hide our sense of relief over the bloody nightmare we just survived.

In all seriousness, Sunil should not joke about these things. Lasantha Wickramatunga also predicted his own fate and see what happened to him. Well said, Sunil Perera. We need more public figures like artistes, celebrities and well known professionals and businessmen with courage to speak out against corruption, nepotism, tyranny etc. and promote democracy and freedom.

Why are so many respected persons so reluctant to voice their opinions against injustices and bad governance?

The prominent people in this country really need to be more bold and express their opinions fearlessly instead standing by like dumb asses.

No doubt every right thinking ones will have to agree you every word here. Sarath Fonseka is one of the great man the motherland has produced – he has shown would never be second to anyone betraying selfrespect. Sunil perera`s words in this interview, he beg people not to loose respect.
My wish is more of Sunil Pereras to come forward and explain the ground realities wihtout any fears. Suni perera expresess everything in the simple langauge that the common man would get it easily.

Sunil Perera is not political analyst, but his focues almost each area where Rajapakshes abused during their terms.
Now this particular Artist has disclosed as to why that Jackson Anthony, Malini Fonseka, Raveendra Randeniya et al knelt down to Maihinda Rajapakshe.
If this country has 100 Sunil Perreras and few hundreds of SFs, the future of the country will be systematci – leaving all grounds any future generations to learn it right from the begining on leaving no space to any kind of crime doers. Simply saying Sunil Perera has articulated as no other. He is fearles as SF has been. This kind of lankens should be awarded with not only gold medals but also life long awards that artists should deserve. They chose the middle path way and support their views to guide the nation to the right tracks. Well done Mr. Jayawewa – motherland will be happy to have produced your kind of personalities.

Dayan, Modapala and the like should learn it from Sunil Perera the like the basics. Then they could do it nicely using their diplomatic or journalitstic exp. as Dr. Thrisantha Nananyakkara makes his tools in irradicating insects that damage the coconut cultivation of the island nation.

Do not fear……….. where is your trust in God you believe?

This incident brought disgrace to the entire Nation and Her people.

    Sunil, Well said!
This is DEMOCRACY, the freedom of free speech!!!

Hope the population wont swallow the ‘He Won the War’ story and bring back a Psychopathic Dictator back to power once again!

Democracy is a system of government of the people, by the people for the people, that’s what we were taught in school!

Now that we have achieved it, lets keep it that way.

Well done Mr Sunil Perera.I listened to your speech fully and overwhelmed by the maturity and the insight you have developed into our politics. Yes you are right. Though we are blessed of having high literacy rates in the region, politically we are blinded and fooled by corrupt politicians over the past several decades. However, we prefer to remain confused and ignorant rather than coming forward and act logically to guide the gullible masses towards the right direction like you did.
Our intelectuals ,religious leaders ,artists and moderate politicians have failed us miserably in that respect .In that kind of a scenario the bravery you showed by coming up and expressing like this is truly praiseworthy .
Yes MR had his opportunities and he failed us miserably .Our economy was collapsing and human rights were deteriorating amidst isolation from the rest of the world .Under his patronage only the bogus development which made corrupt billionaires would have continued enabling us becoming an unofficial colony of China. We could have looked forward to becoming another North Korea with time. Though it is far from being perfect MS and Ranil combination could possibly steer the country towards some kind of a stability and normalcy hopefully. It is the best choice we have whether we like it or not.
All the best for you !

It is said that some peoples hearts are sealed by the creator, who stubbornly refuse to accept the truth.

They will have eyes, still will not see.
They will have ears, still will not listen
They will have brain, still will not think

Finally the Creator says, don’t worry trying convincing them, will take care of them.

What more could you say to some of the commentors in this forum who still praise a TSUNAMI HORA, MURDERER, PLUNDERER AND PROTECTOR OF RAPISTS, MURDERERS AND PLUNDERERS.

Muthu(mari) Which school did you attended…..Don’t tell me it was Prabha’s primary…Learn to respect other nationalities and religions…We need to teach MR his lessons…but not by instigating each other like how MR did in his days, but by rising as one family of nation. Learn ethics my dear before you comment.

I don’t know much about this Sunil Perera, but his argument as to why Mahinda Rajapaksa should not run for office is silly:

“Take the late Nelson Mandela from South Africa for example. He came into power, served his time and handed over the reigns to the younger generation to take the country forward. Mahinda Rajapaksa should take a cue from our very own cricketing global icons in Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara. They too relinquished their captaincies and authority and groomed a youngster to take over”.

Mandela was an old man when he was released from prison, and finally retired in his eighties, remaining a venerated political voice after he left office. Cricketers retire when they’re too old to run around and catch balls, and there is no reason for politicians to “take a cue” from them.

There may be good reasons to vote against Rajapaksa, but I don’t think he is a bogey man who is going to kill all his critics if he gets back into office. Painting himself as a courageous hero who is in peril for his life due to his bold political stance may help sell Perera’s records, though.

What you dont know is more than you do being out of the country. This is common to me too me being living in Germany. But those who know them well being down there are well aware of the facts the way Mahinda reacted especially after post war sessions. I think Sunil belong to the latter category. It was MR mighty until Jan 8th- AIRLINE was his taxi service regardless of the billions went missing. Helicopter services are also his pvt jets regardless of people fund abuse. Just think about the way simple Prez Sirisena lives the office ? So humbel – exemplary a to z. I dont know who would not respect Prez Sirisena today. He is not spineless, but he is concerned of almost party, nation and country all.

i WAS ALSO not there at the time, all these grabs were occured. but me as one who pay visits to the country very often while continuing my stay in Europe, I saw the difference clearly. Today, people out there behave as if everything is allowed for them, but prior to Jan 8th, not even my colleauge of the Colombo or Pera Unis dared to speak out what they thought was right. Can you imagine ? Were that single cases ?

Why to protect a guy of that kind further ? He has rendered a service, one another shoudl be given chance to do the job or not ?

This time it is a vote between the Educated and uneducated – lets see:-
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRgMySYBs

(Statement by the United Front Of The Peradeniya University Lectueres And Alumni) In CT of 4-1-15:
” Friends, time has come to educate one another about the massive corruption that happens in Sri Lanka under the Present Regime. The Executive has taken the lead in this process resulting in massive debt, virtually mortgaging our mother land to foreign countries. Each individual and even the unborn in Sri Lanka owes close to Rs 400,000.00 as debt to China and other lending agencies. Country is in the threshold of bankruptcy. Today more than 50% parliament members have not even passed the O/L examination. Present regime has no respect for education. Country’s development could be achieved only by educating people. We emphasise that more than 6% of the GDP need to be allocated for education, which the emerging new leadership has promised. Hence we strongly feel that the present regime should be removed for a more thoughtful, compassionate and considerate leadership to take reins to spearhead this beautiful nation to be a DEVELOPED NATION devoid of corruption, family favouritism and protected independent Judiciary. This Government ……… 1. Promised that the presidential system will be repealed, in the “Mahinda Chinthanaya”, instead extended the number of times a president could contest from two times to unlimited. 2. Robbed around 95 Million LKR from the “Tsunami” fund ( Helping Hambantota ) donated by the Japanese government. This was his first political robbery apart from what he made as the Minister of Fisheries. 3. Let all the ministers of his cabinet to rob at their will, hence he could blackmail them. He turned a blind eye when his Prime Minister imported Drugs and few members of his cabinet importing illegal ethanol and drugs. 4. Alienated the country towards China resulting in India developing bitterness with Sri Lanka. 5. Obtained loans from China at rates higher than Libor (London Interbank Offered Rate) to earn commissions. These commissions in billions were routed to Swiss bank accounts via Seychelles, where MR opened a branch of Bank of Ceylon and also an Embassy in a country where only 92000 thousand people live. Sri Lankan airline flies to Seychelles. 6. Built a port where no ships come. Air Port where no Airplanes land. He made billions of commissions doing these projects. 7. Made money building Roads : The cost per km of the Outer Circular Highway from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya financed by China is US$ 56 m(Rs.7.3billion) This cost is three times higher than the Kottawa Kaduwela extension of the Southern Highway financed by Japan ,which is Rs.2.4 billion per km. 8. The cost per km of Extension of the Southern Highway from Mattala to Hambantota will cost Rs.2.14billion, whereas per km cost of the Southern Highway cost only Rs.975m 9. Bid price of A9 road was Rs.140 m per km when the departmental estimate for an A class road was Rs. 20m. 10. Construction of the Norochchole Coal Power Project was awarded to a well- established Chinese contractor at US$280.00M in 2005 by the previous regime. Soon after present regime came into power it cancelled the contract and awarded it to another inexperienced Chinese firm at US$520 million-almost double the previous price. Plant is inoperative even after 2years of completion. 11. On a dispute between Essential Services Commissioner and Asset Maritime (Pvt) Ltd arbitrator-a retired High Court Judge awarded Rs.600,000.00 as compensation to the company. A Committee appointed by the President on the intervention of the First Lady awarded Rs.180 million to this company owned by Dhammika Perera and Nishantha Wickramasinghe- latter being a brother of First Lady. 12. Due to the ill-conceived Hedging deal of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation headed by Asantha de Mel (a person connected to the political establishment) lost Rs. 230 billion in2007. No one has been held accountable for huge loss of public funds. 13. Failed to initiate investigations on 29 journalists murdered or disappeared. Lasantha W, Pradeep Eknaligoda 14. Failed to initiate investigations into the deaths of Members of Parliament 1. Raviraj and one other. 15. Appointed 38 numbers of the Presidents family and extended family, to diplomatic missions. 16. Turned a blind eye on losses at Mihin Air to the tune of 6-8 Billion, made by his closest buddy Sajin vas Gunawardane who had been criminally charged previously. He appointed his brother in Law Nishantha Wickramasinghe to Sri Lankan Airlines who has no formal education and made losses to the tune of Rs 70 billion to date. 17. Influenced the judiciary to President’s benefit. Impeached the 43rd Chief Justice for no reason. Makes judicial appointments to his benefit. 18. Allows Presidents children to play (Car races) on the streets of Colombo at their will by closing roads. He over ruled Mahanayake Theroes to hold car races for his children in Kandy town. 19. Failed to nominate Election, Police, Public Service and Judicial services commissions. 20. Udayanga Weeratunga – Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. Cousin of President Rajapakse. Accused of involving in a shady deal to purchase MIG Fighters for the Sri Lankan Air force. 21. Paid 700.00Million rupees to Prabhakaran to purchase weapons to kill innocent Sinhalese using Karuna Amman who is now a deputy Minister and a Vice President of the SLFP. He uses Kumar Pathmanathan alias LTTE arms dealer to his personal benefit. 22. How Karuna was sent to London “ On August 30, 2007 the Department of Immigration and Emigration issued a diplomatic passport number D1944260 in the name of “Kokila Dushmantha Gunawardena” whose occupation on the passport was given as Director General of Wildlife Conservation. The photograph on the passport was that of Karuna Amman. The Department of Immigration, it is pertinent to note, comes under the Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order of which Gotabaya Rajapakse is Secretary and President Rajapakse the Minister”. 23. Failed to conduct an impartial inquiry into killing of around 43 prisoners at the Welikada Prison. 24. Did nothing to improve the economy and failed to introduce workers charter. Economy in shambles. 25. Arranged for his son to sit for the Law exams in an isolated air-conditioned room, away from the other candidates. 26. Killed protesters in Rathupaswala (8), Free Trade Zone (1) and Chilaw (4). He used maximum force on all protestors.”

I think there shoudl be made clear that guys over 70 years should not be in parliament. That can then be exemplary. If that is the case for other professionals, why not for politicians.
Wasidewa shoudl be brought to his rooms where he can spend the later day life. So should be the case with Prof. WITHARANA and all other bone falling men stay active in politics of the country today. They are just blocking the system not paving the way to the others that struggle for jobs. If not for execeptions, no need to allow any politicians overage to compete elections. Law should be equally held to all of the people of motherland.

True, it is that Mandela was already old when he became President, but Sunil Perera also mentioned Kumar Sangakkara, who is at the height of his cricketing prowess.

In any case, successful or not, the fact is that Barack Obama cannot run again for President. That sort of thing has now been written in to so many constitutions. In America, it was merely a convention, but Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times (must have been mainly because Hitler was rampaging the world) – and after that the limit of two terms was WRITTEN in to the constitution.

Old men must retire. J.R. Jayawardena was already old when first elected, but he had a good first term – and then it became disastrous. Although it’s not a simple matter of years, the fact is that MaRa is already 69. He won the war in his first term, he ought then to have retired; now, he certainly has no business to be in politics.

Well, that anyway, is my view, and I also think it is in extremely bad taste to impute ulterior motives to Sunil! Also, I’m a bit nonplussed that the son of Dr Brian Senewiratne should be saying this.

        Sinhala Man,

I have been reading the comments and arguments, including your own, and think you are correct, and I am wrong on this matter. It seems very reasonable for politicians, lawyers and doctors to be required to retire at the same age as other public servants, given the tendency of old men to cling to their positions when they should make way for younger men and women. It is, in fact, an important change if we are to develop a more gender-balanced work force, and more progressive one, since younger people tend to have more contemporary, progressive ideas.

Here in Australia politicians are required to retire at 65 like other public servants, though doctors and lawyers, for some reason, are allowed to work into their old age. I wasn’t aware that Rajapaksa is almost 70 – his black hair dye had me fooled that he was younger.

Ah, the joys of CT and its commentators to get me thinking straight!

          Sinhala Man,

I take back what I said about Mahinda Rajapaksa retiring after discovering more about the LTTE/TGTE plan to capitalise on the “change of government” to expand their power, influence and financial reserves through the “refer Sri Lanka to the ICC” campaign by the TGTE/LTTE that Colombo Telegraph (CT) has been pushing (along with my father, the self-proclaimed ‘Sinhalese senator of the TGTE’).

Far from straightening my thinking, my response to your comparing Rajapaksa with my father[Edited out]

You are living a completely insulated life and will never know what it was like living under the jackboot of the MR regime. In case you didn’t know, even President Sirisena said the same thing after he won the elections. Quote ‘Towards the last stages of campaigning, I was living in fear, as I knew that if I lost to MR, my whole family would have been wiped out and we all would have ended 6 feet under.’ There were many who got abducted and went missing without a trace, or were found dead and floating in waterways, many were businessmen or their family members hijacked for large ransom and threatened with death, and most were simply settled to get their loved ones released unharmed. All were carried out by goons under patronage and support of the Defence establishment. No inquiries, no proper investigations were ever carried out, no arrests of perpetrators, everything got swept under and life just moved on. So much so, some businessmen who were imminent targets even paid up front to prevent going thru the trauma and the media circus that could follow. Being a popular singer who lived thru that period, he knows it all too well. Getting ‘white vanned’ (Van has no number plates and mostly painted white) abducted for saying too much of anything against MR, was a real possibility. Strangers in military fatigue riding powerful trail-bikes could be stalking you and your family, whilst your finality was definitely a real possibility. Such were the living conditions under MR’s watch, but not anymore. Presently, our country’s ‘living in fear’ threshold has been drastically reduced to zilch, virtually non-existent since the new administration was sworn in. Although the fear factor remains of revenge attacks if MR returns to power, since his ‘deep state’ control mechanism is still intact although dormant for most part, active only to get him back in control and to the top job, even though he is a misfit and unworthy of that position.

A no holds barred brutal narrative about our corrupt politicians told as it should be by a genuine man who has the interest of his country at heart at all times.

Village masses would stay like clay eaten crocodiles not knowing anything right. WHo wold do the job to make aware them ? No body, why cant he govt or neutral media men do the job for the sake of a good future for all of us ?
You are dead right – few weeks ago, I visited my relatives in Galle. They are middle class people never were they Mahinda Rajapakshe supporters. but for their matter- that Road constructions were being done by Mahinda times, only fo rthat and the war is no longer there, they would stay boasting on Rajaa. All these are well educated people. I was helpless – could not utter a single word pro to my heart. I hate Rajapakshe Raskals forever for all the mess created in the country during the recent years.

    Dr. Romesh Senewiratne Alagaratnam
You seem to have a lot of names from different ethnic groups . Your political view seems to have different strands to it as well. Your argument about Mandela’s age does not hold much water because MR himself is into 70s now. Sunil is very right when he says decent people step down when the time comes. MR would not.

    • 2
      1

      Hi Nilame,

Yes, my political views do have many strands. I agree that old men should bow out gracefully from public office, and am not a supporter of Rajapaksa (though not particularly because of his age – there are older politicians around). My main objection is his previous tendency to nepotism and family rule, cronyism and politicization of education and the judiciary. These are things I have read about from distant Australia – I am not a Sri Lankan citizen and do not vote in her elections. Though interested in Sri Lankan affairs, I comment only as a distant observer when it comes to Sri Lankan politics.

When CT published a headline declaring that someone is afraid they’ll be killed by Rajapaksa, I wanted to know if this was a realistic fear. I don’t think it is.

Sunil is being the drama queen that he is. He has the audacity to speak like a saint when he himself has many skeletons in his closet. I think its important to remember that none of us are perfect. At least MR did the service of overseeing the end of the brutal war that many of us have sadly chosen to forget. Perhaps he lost his way along the way, but he had the decency to accept his mistakes and apologize to the people in public. I am yet to see Ranil apologizing for the Batalanda massacre or Chandrika for all the dirty work she got her security division to attend to. What are we if we cannot forgive those who seek pardon and give them a second chance, especially after all the service one has done for the nation? As a nation we speak of reconciliation, its time to act upon it as well.

I think if we take a minute to put aside our hatred or jealousy towards MR we realize that our country is now safe and certainly more developed than it was under previous rulers. Sunil should stick to what he does best which is amazing music.

It’s sad to see some people once again just floating accusations. The UNP administration had six months and they failed to find at least some evidence to prove anything against MR. It’s very easy to accuse anyone of anything without any evidence whatsoever. However, the learned should know that anyone is innocent until proven guilty for this very reason.

I totally agree with you. If we go by the past, there were people like JR who created the country for killing field supported by RP plus RW and many more. The outcomes of that regime/s were record breaking, ethnic violence killed more than 100,000 youth and youth unrest during 1988 – 1990 killed more than 50,000. We all know the past. Unfortunately, I am not able to name a leader who stand for the country and its people other than MR to date. Sunil Perera may have some bad experience, yet, me like Sri Lankans enjoy the life after 2009 more than ever due to MR. Further, during last ten-year period, the development taken place in the country was noteworthy but some people do not believe that it was clean. If this mentality continues, I know for sure, though some academics preach for good governance, Sri Lanka would never be able to undergo a mega project. The reason is UNP leaders are the brainchild plus record-holders for corruption, malpractice, intimidation, thuggery,or anything liable for bad governance. History stands for this.

Mr Sunil hope Ranil has done a good background check on everyone who made the UNP National list. This K. Y. Pancharatnam Ram might have had connections with Duminda and possibly have been planning to crossover to Mahindas side if he won on the 8th of January.

It is about electing educated and mature leaders with a foresight to steer the country out of the present mess.
