If MP Duminda Silva does not return to Sri Lanka in the near future, the family of the assassinated Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra plans to write to the Singapore government notifying them that a murder suspect is in their country.
Hirunika Premachandra, the daughter of the late SLFPer, told LAKBIMAnEWS that she did not know what Silva’s medical condition is. “One day he has to come back,” she averred. “He can’t live in Singapore forever. I want him to come back because this case is dragging on so much since he is not here. I really hope things will change if he comes back. I want him to be back and on his feet.’
Hirunika pointed out that out of the 20 suspects, “only 16 are inside while four are out including the main figure.” She said she didn’t know where they were, “probably abroad or dead.”
Silva’s lawyer, Hemantha Warnakulasuriya, PC, has filed a contempt of court case against Hirunika for making statements he alleges could be harmful to the integrity of the court. But she said it is a “silly way of trying to scare me and to draw my focus away.” “From the beginning, I asked for justice; I never said anything against the magistrate or the court.”
Hirunika dismissed speculation that she is joining the government saying that she is still a member of the Mahajana Party. She also said she did not know when she would join active politics because her focus now is to secure justice for her father and the others who died with him in October 2011.

Good idea to write to Singapore whose Deputy PM is a Ceylong Tamil – Tharmand Shanmugaratnam who would be familiar with Lanka’s rotten and violence political culture.

Ms Premachandra…
Accuses govt of cover up then accepts house & salary, hob nobs with govt over a statue and accepts funding for same and every now and then a release like this.
If one wanted a credible path to take..no need for handout and house or state funded statue until justice was seen to be done/done.

Cardinal Sin:
Thanks for that. It’s about time that all this showboating stopped. The facts speak for themselves and what is being done by this young woman between tete-a-tetes with crown princes at public occasions and her mother accepting office from the man shielding her father’s killer is beyond ludicrous!

Shame on law enforcement of Sri Lanka.
Children and widows of brutally murdered people have to beg foreign governments to arrest the obvious killer.
Killer was flown out of Sri Lanka secretly on VIP flight under covert approval of the family regime.
How long shall Sri Lankans tolerate this? Arab Spring Sri Lanka version is in the making.

You see, nobody seem to be care.
1.It is said that relatives of the governing politicians have been found in the list of the nominees for the next elections, this violating regulations selection criteria
2. Baratha murder and the several other murders perpetrated by JAmare are far from fair investigations in compliance with the law and order of the country´s constitution
3. As also the prelates point out, today´s crime rate prevailing in the country is seen as never before in the history
4. Namal and other immature, far disqualified politicians in the office that have been appointed by President and the coalition arbitorily – seem to playing with state assets; can OUR county afford to hold so called car races blocking colombo roads netz

This is the nature of their court handlings.
What does the president of the country have to say in this regard (poor handlings of the court cases) is what my 10 year old asked me today? I did not have an answer either begging him to wait further.

If Hirunika is genuine in wanting justice on behalf of her late father, was it ethically correct for her to remain silent and allow her mother to accept a political appointment and a house from the very people who are sheilding Duminda? All I can say is when it comes to accepting perks and positions all their high minded principles fly out of the window. Hirunika reminds me of our former president CBK who joined up with the murderers of her late husband in order to defeat the UNP. Honestly, their actions are sickening!

You may have a point.
Still Hirunika is a young woman. Only 24 years old. Just had her beloved father brutally murdered in broad day light.
She seems intelligent and brave, yet not perfect.
We can help her cause by lowering our expectations a bit. Compared to many other spineless UPFA & UNP politicians Hirunika has already done enough.
She is taking on the mighty and the corrupt elite of Sri Lanka head-on.

The best option is to marry Namal and be the First Lady in Waiting??
/
gamini / July 17, 2012
Yes Raymond, not a bad idea. Marry Namal to be the First Lady and then get Namal bumped off and reach the top. Absolutely good strategy to become the President of this typical Bananna Republic. What a set of mediocrity we have produced from the Free Education System, after driving all intelligent and educated Sinhalese, Tamils and Burghers starting ’56.

She might end up being the “first lady in waiting” for a while though.
The day, Namal makes even a slight attempt at the Presidency, “Banana Republic of Sri Lanka” would hardly describe the pathetic situation the country has fallen into.
Apart from that, I wish them luck, if there is indeed romance in the air.

She earlier said that her father had 42 bullet wounds on his body.Three others were killed and Duminda was injured with three bullets. A total of more than 50 bullets were fired during the few minutes of the incident;yet, the police produced only one gun in courts after a month and requested ‘permission’ to fingerprint it!- which was quite unnecessary as fingerprinting of guns is an essential routine part of a murder investigation. No bullet casings were produced. The postmortem reports of the dead are not divulged. Her lawyer has not queried these matters. She should instruct him, being a law student. There were police officers in vehicles of both processions. Was their evidence recorded?
