Home Affairs Ministry Wants Public To Fund PM’s 40 “Years In Politics Celebrations”

In a clear violation of the basic tenets of good governance and demonstrating absolute confusion over ‘state,’ ‘government’ and ‘party,’ the Ministry of Home Affairs has demanded all District Secretaries organize programmes for the commemoration of a political event, i.e ‘the completion of 40 years of public service by the Hon Prime Minsiter Ranil Wickremesinghe.’

The relevant instructions have been issued in a letter marked ‘Extremely Urgent’ and signed by Neil De Alwis, Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The directives, detailed under the subject line ‘The completion of 40 years of public service by the Hon Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the free economic system,’ calls for the mobilizing of support from people in the relevant areas and obtaining their involvement for commemorative programmes. These include all night pirith ceremonies on August 3, 2017 and offering of alms to 40 Buddhist monks on the following day (August 4th). The District Secretaries have been asked to arrange for these religious events to be complemented by similar ceremonies invoking blessings on the people and the Yahapalana government at Christian, Hindu and Muslim places of worship.

The letter has been copied to the Secretary to the Prime Minister ‘for his kind attention’. It is not known whether or not the Prime Minister’s office has noted the clear abuse of state resources and the politicization of public offices embedded in the text of the letter and, in the event of such noticing, given appropriate instructions to the Home Affairs Minister.

Meanwhile a person close to the Prime Minister has expressed the opinion that this is but an exercise in sycophancy by the Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena. “In the end it will only ‘sully the good name of the Prime Minister,’”he told Colombo Telegraph. He also opined that if at all such programmed should have been organized by the party.

This celebrations are already finished. They cut a cake. Photo was in the paper. What else now or CT is sensationalizing and publishing old news.

Neil De Alwis, Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs., ——————————————–Extremely Urgent ———————————————————————————–Can you please provide the IQ of Prime Minister the past 40 years? —–That will be very helpful for your proposes celebrations. That will be very helpful to distinguish him from the other “distinguished” 223 Parliamentarians.

DSs were informed to hold the event on 03rd August, 2017 by this letter of 27.07.2017. So, Jimsofty, how come this become an old news? The parliamentary celebration session is also going to be held on 04th August. that cost will too bear by the public.

Despite being born with every advantage one could hope for, media connections, political connection wealth etc.

Forty years later, not much to show for it. Sad.

The only remarkable thing about Ranil celebrating 40 years in parliament is its duration.

We all remember his despicable behaviour when CBK presented the package and during the 18th amendment debate.

    ” Wants Public To Fund”

we can consider it if he could list out 40 achievements. For example one achievement was sending the japanese packing in 2004 on the norocholai power plant resulting in power cuts, but his vision brought us a chinese albeit faulty power plant at japanese prices.Another achievement insisting on the worlds best finance minister when sirisena did not want him at all.another achievement bringing in the worlds best central bank governor who then brought in the worlds best bond dealer from the EPF into the central bank dealing operations.Another achievement was having peace talks with the LTTE which was never interested in peace at all and wasting time of the armed forces.I think we can easily find 40 achievements.yep,go ahead and spend the money,The loose motion is herewith passed by the srilanka taxpayers asssociation with 2 dissenting members only.

I’d say HOORAY TO CT. Why? The 2015 Revolution had changed the face of the Rajaballa Racist supporters to mobile the the thinking power of the hard core Racists and the Rajaballa supporters,
They seem to be seeing clearly what’s going on in the country , the past is worst the present donkeys are worse too.

The likes of Champa and Jim softy ‘s thinking ability has changed slightly and they are in line with straight thinking patriots??
Time for the crooks to step down from power, Good times are dawning for Srilanka??
    Jim softy ‘s words were:
“.Even if Rajapussas bribe the voters he would never be able to win the election. “

That’s a clear shift from their past ideology of worshiping the past ruler.

It’s a Hurray! for CT website and a Thumbs down for ALL THE BROAD SHEETS /. The NATIONAL NEWS .

HI Analyst: You wrote “Are they all Donkeys in the Parliament ruling us??”

Well, looks like you been away from Sri Lanka for a long time! Welcome back.

This is nothing but the Home Affairs Minister offering his rear end and scoring rainbow (not brownie) points.

Yes, we should spend public funding to celebrate “Btalanda Alugosuwa’s” 40 years of politics.
This Don Juan is selling our county as he doesn’t have back bone.

Wonder whether NGO Nikaya can find 40 Monks who can chant Pirith to Dr Ranil………..Even then what merits can they bestow on Dr Ranil , who has F****** the peaceful , post Nanthikadal Nation where 70 percent are Sinhala Buddhist people………..Unless Dr Ranil has accrued lots of Merit by helping Mahendran and Aloysious Family Trust, mate Lotto Ravi to get the Monarch Pad by helping Mahendran and SIL, donating 250 Acres to Sivalingam, and resurrecting Tigers to attack his own UNP Police constables in the North…….My Elders ask me what about Batalanda, but I don’t want to go there…….

      KASmaalam K A Sumanasekera

“post Nanthikadal Nation where 70 percent are Sinhala Buddhist people”

Your % is wrong. There are a large percentage of Sinhalese and there are a large percentage of Buddhists., not Sinhala/Buddhists who amounts to a tiny but noisy minority.

“My Elders ask me what about Batalanda”

You should ask MR why didn’t he charge him and the agreement both reached since or the deal both hatched in the early morning of 9 Jan 2015.

I wonder why you spend so much time defending MR clan and keep attacking Ranil. Remember both are politicians and by nature crooks. Let them carry their own b***s.

Any criminal charges you want to have it cleared if and when clan comes back and take over the mantle of power?

      What is init for you?

Why not? Isn’t he one of the veterans left in his league? Didn’t he teach us the supreme quality of not giving up on our goals? Those who admire Jack Ma, should also be looking up to the legacy of Hon. Mr. Wikramasinghe.

Congratulations to CT for making this disclosure. Ranil Wickramasinghe is celebrating 40 long years of devious political manipulation and crookedness. What has he done otherwise? This time he has
helped the Rajapaksa, his bosom pal ministers like Malik, Ravi, Kiriella and Gamage to make more
money. Shame there is a depita katuwa like him in Sri Lanka politics. Rajapaksa’s are facing criticism
for what they stood. RW is nothing more than a fake, pseudo politician. He has used Charitha Ratwatte and Paskaralingam to help only UNP ministers make money.

Old JR Jayewardena may be turning in his grave that he launched this homo
sapien Ranil Wickramasingha .What has he done other than do devious and
dastardly things. When someone is up and coming in the UNP, he plants
stories against them through his cronies in the media. He runs the country
with his school friends, his close companions and a select few. He masqueraded
as Mr Clean until his dirty underpants fell revealing the true character of this
sick man. He allowed all his buddies to make money. He defended them in
Parliament and made the accusers look idiots. Central Bank bond scam is one
case. It is the largest racket in Sri Lanka. A foreign national was put there to rob
because RW wants to become President. He will promise heaven and earth but
no one will believe him. He is a liar. He lied about prosecuting Rajapaksa. After
that he got his heartthrob Sagala Ratnayake to pass all the secret information
about the investigations to Rajapaksas. Double dealer RW has achieved nothing
and contributed only carbondixide in parliament.

“What’s wrong with sri lankan politicians”

Everything is perfectly alright with the politicians. You ought to ask the voters what’s wrong with them voting the same old crooks over and over again hoping the crooks will one day build a never-never land.

Ranil has been felicitated by the Lankan Parliament. Is this not sufficient?

  • 10

In this 40 years how many foreign trips has this fake leader made ? My guess is more than 2000,( at a conservative 50 trips a year)

Then what about all the wining and dining ?

Then what about the negative effects-scuttling of constitutional reforms under Chandrika, failure to remove Sarath Silva? Bond scam,? Bringing utter impotent people to office ( based on college ties , preferences etc), making the UNP a secondary party under likes of SF,MS and making the UNP a party which can get only about 30% of the vote(one time it got nearly 50 %)

    The list is endless.
What is there to celebrate ?

Who funded Ranil’s recent medical treatment & the related costs to the US, isn’t this enough although it is an utter waste when the poor people inflicted with dengue and other illnesses can’t find medicine or a hospital bed in the govt. hospitals – or is it from Aloysius bribe.

People will celebrate if this rogue together with other rogues is ousted and sent to Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo prison.

Rajapakse should be in prison. RW should be there as well. They can jointly celebrate their achievements. They directly stole or aided the stealing from the people’s coffers. The last great achievement of RW is to appoint Mahendran to the Central Bank. Thieves of a thousand rupees are in jail. Why not thieves of millions of rupees of people’s money and those who aided and abetted, as RW did? Why commissions of inquiry at public expense, when they should be before criminal courts?

Once again, sycophancy rears its ugly head. Why must our ‘educated’ administrators reduce themselves to this?

Ranil was blessed with outstanding parents, Nalini and Esmond, whose contribution to our national good is legendary. Alas, Ranil, having chosen a political career, lost his way. He became a prisoner to the kudos and largesse that goes with political office. He chose compromise over honesty. He believed that was indispensable. Fatal flaws for someone born so high.

“Home Affairs Ministry Wants Public To Fund PM’s 40 “Years In Politics Celebrations”

This country has produced far greater people than Mr Wickremasinghe, who have come and gone without any fanfare or self-promotion. Let them be an inspiration to the Premier.

The Home Minister should show some gratitude and use some money recieved from Access for Southern Highway to bolster PM for bringing him back to parliament after being rejected by the voters.

Politicians have this insatiable love of self-aggrandizing. Remember Dr Mervyn Silva smashed up a TV station for not giving enough coverage to one of his opening ceremonies.
In the present case, was it a ploy to denigrate Ranil? Just a thought.

    Hey RaviK,
Could you send an undated letter to Perpetual Tresuries and ask to fund this? “Hon PM’ is in need of cash!
    Hey Rishad Badiuddeen,
Bring a sugar container from Brazil, get some help from RaviK to clear it, sell it at Pettah (one miligram is 100.00 rupees; guys! don’t say sugar is soooo expensive!) and fund this important celebration.
Where is that Cival Society (herd of foxes) that lives on $$$. Here you have a chance to eat the cake and beat it at the same time; a bit unusual but it happens in Y-Pala’s Sri Lanka!!
Let’s have this ’40 yrs in polikicks’ celebration at Monarch Residence!!!
