I Am Addressing You As PM Of Sri Lanka: Ranil Makes Confident Statement Despite Sirisena’s Sacking Letter

Making a special statement to media from Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he was still the Prime Minister of the country with a clear majority in Parliament.

Wickremesinghe

Wickremesinghe made the statement minutes after President Maithripala Sirisena sent him a letter, formally informing that the UNP leader has been sacked from the Prime Minister’s post.

“I am addressing you as the Prime Minister of the country. When a No-Confidence Motion was presented against me, I showed I commanded the support of a majority in Parliament. I still command the same support in the House,” Wickremesinghe said, speaking to media.

“Parliament will decide who the legitimate Prime Minister is. The Speaker will convene Parliament according to Standing Orders. We will resolve this matter in Parliament,” Wickremesinghe said ruling out the possibility of seeking the opinion of the judiciary.

Wickremesinghe reiterated that everyone who supported during the No-Confidence vote still stood by him.

“Convene Parliament. You will see the support have,” he said confidently, stating that he had discussed the current situation with other political parties.

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera, speaking to media after Wickremesinghe, requested the Speaker to convene Parliament even on Sunday, to allow the UNP to show its majority.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne, speaking at the same press conference, requested the military and the Police to work with the duly appointed legitimate government to maintain law and order.

He also slammed at President Sirisena for making a 180-degree turn from the path of ‘Good Governance’.

The Mahinda-Sirisena combine currently lack a majority in Parliament. Their only hope is for the Muslim MPs to cross over yet again – but this time to their side.

    Jesus save Sri Lanka!

These Muslims have no scruples and will cross over. This is their trade mark , no loyalty , cannot be trusted , sly, cunning, selfish and self serving to the core, will backstab and cross over for petty benefits. They are only loyal to their Wahhabi Arab masters and their fundamental agenda to Islamise the country as much as possible.. Not even to their own origin, language or ethnicity. This is all that you can expect from them.

If I remember correctly, Sir. Rasik Fareed did answer this question and said, we need to be with whoever has the power in order to server the community. That is true, and this is how minority politics works in many places, regardless of religion.

That still abides by the constitution and we respect the laws, we didn’t resort to arm-struggle, bombing or killing any innocents in order to fulfill one community’s dreams.

Go to Google and search for “free proxy server”. You will get a list of sites. Select one and type in ” https://www.colombotelegraph.com ” and you’re in business!
The state CANNOT ban Google, only particular websites.

Ranil, Maithiripala Sirisena is a spineless leader. He has fallen in the trap known to him and has acted in contravention of the constitution. Do not worry go before the people. However, I have reservation on Rishard Badurdeen and Mano Ganeshan These people have no policies. They are people looking for their own benefits. You will come to know when the Parliament is convened. At the same time file an action against the action of the President in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court as guardian of the Law will deliver a proper decision. You have to save the people from these treacherous politicians.. . .

Kallathonis: Thappu, There are Kallathonis and Kallathonis. There are Kallathonis who swim over and Kallathonis who come by fishing boats. One thing that identifies a Kallathoni for sure is that fact that their women love the Sivlingam. They bathe it with milk, lick it, worship it and garland it. So Muthu may be a Kallathoni. You may be one too. But I am certainly not. I would rather be seen dead in a ditch with a dog than be taken for a Kallathoni.

Oh really? Who are the ancestors of the modern Sinhalese? All Kallthonis , largely from Tamil Nadu and a few from Odisha/Bengal. Half the Sinhalese population are descended from low caste Tamil slave labour who were imported into the island during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial era. You will definitely be one of them , With a name like Rodrigo your ancestors will be low castes from the fishing villages of southern Tamil Nadu. It is the Sri Lankan Tamils who are largely descended from indigenous Dravidian tribes like the Naga , who were speaking a semi Tamil dialect called Elu. Just because Sinhalese evolved in the southern parts of the island from native Tamil, Pali and Sanskrit , does not mean the Sinhalese are indigenous . Out the three languages from which modern Sinhalese evolved, only Tamil belongs to the region . The other two belong to the plains of northern India. Similarly just because various dialects of Tamil are spoken in Tamil Nadu and north and east Sri Lanka does not mean Tamils are outsiders and not indigenous. They have been living in these areas from ancient times. Idiotic comment, coming especially from a so called Sinhalese descended from recently migrated low caste South Indian immigrants from the fishing villages of Tamil Nadu.

Sirisena should be remembered as a cowardish opportunistic. He betrayed the people and the country because it is an unconstitutional appointment without a mandate from the people or parliament. He now also betrayed Ranil who gave an opportunity to become the President of the country. He once betrayed Mahinda and Mahinda attempted to murder him.

How can one ever trust on him ?

Now those former goons would get back to power as MINISTERs with high profile criminals records being investigated ?

How would that be possible ? Why Sirisena did not think twice ?

I think SIRISENA is isolated by today s politics. How would that be easy for him in next days ?

Sirisena should be reborn to face the nation tomorrow right ?

Also in last week s public speeches he happened to mention about the cruelties of former government under MR.

How can he now work with MR ?

MR will for sure murder SIRISENA and let the world say, that was an act of UNP.

This will be the next breaking news in next days.

If our country has a semblance of Buddhist values or iota of brains to understand the teachings of the lord Buddha, the military would step in like what happened in Thailand and throw everybody out, dissolve parliament and called for snap elections and control until there is stability and transformation of all governing powers by withholding democratic values. But our military is no where close to that of Thailand or any other democracy in the region. Therefore, an example of Thailand or a Zimbabwe will never happen as the entire country is flushed down the toilet by the moada Sinhalaya.

The best thing former PM, RW to do is going for fresh mandate rather than being adamant that he’s still the PM.

You lost LG, failed to hold elections on time, attempted to overshadow the head of the state, weak management of economy & the much talked CB bond scam.

You deceived the president through the 19 amendment to make him politically handicapped.

The President has to dissolve parliament and call elections.
Sri Lanka is really in a crisis. Who is going to bring the next budget? If MR brings it: does he have the vote to pass it? If not the govt will collapse and you can go for fresh elections.

Is this the ‘SWRD legacy’ Pathola Sira was crowing about? Of the many attempts to destroy democracy – 1962 coup, JR, JVP, LTTE, etc., this is the most treasonous one. A man brought to power by a grand coalition of democratic forces in the country as their common candidate to end corruption and despotism, makes a deal with the very same tyrant and appoints him as his PM. This is a very bad precedent indeed. This heinous act by Pathola Sira will go down in history as the death knell to liberalism and democracy in the country.

Look at me. I thought I can “retire” and at least start sleeping my full 8 hours instead of 4 hours.
I see a cloud. It is “my thing” you know, I don’t trust people easily.
I would like to ask from the Prime Minister (Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, of course), do you trust Maithri?
I am asking this because, don’t you think he could have done this DIFFERENTLY?????
For an example; he could have appointed you as the PM when Ranil was overseas.
Then by the time he is back, you may have already assumed duties without any hitch.
Don’t you think Maithri has surreptitiously given a chance to Ranil to strengthen his position by not appointing you as the PM, WHEN Ranil was overseas, like Chandrika did?
I feel like this is the second episode of failed No Confidence Motion. I hope he has not taken you for ANOTHER ride.
I just asked. I am very happy for you. I wish you all the very best from the bottom of my heart.
If you were asked to show the majority in the Parliament, Mr. PM (MR), I hope you won’t get together with the racist, separatist TNA and BETRAY Sinhalese Buddhists and our Army.
Same goes with the JVP who were instrumental in bringing in this slave government. They will never be forgiven.
Ranil was always with the racist, separatist TNA. They are birds of a feather, flock together. But not you. We haven’t come this far to see you coupling with TNA and JVP. Don’t roll a red carpet for them, for God’s sake.
We, Sinhalese never forgive TNA for demanding a Federal Constitution and also what they did to our Army discrediting them internationally. I hope you remember that.

On the FUNNY SIDE, Mr. President, Ranil, Mahinda, TNA, JVP can bring an Impeachment against you, now, don’t you think? :D :D :D :D :D
In a similar situation, late President Premadasa said to have bribed the Speaker. This time no chance as the current Speaker is an honourable person. Moreover, you cannot dissolve the Parliament.
Then Mahinda can be the ACTING President. :D
However, if Ranil challenged Mahinda’s position in the Courts, what will happen? If the Court ruling was in favour of Ranil, he will become the Acting President. NO WAY. This is a too risky business.
Man, I must stop here. My head is reeling.

Are you chewing gum and typing? Your brain does not have the capacity to do two things at the same time and that’s why your head is reeling.

Mahinda cannot be an “acting” president other than in a movie. The current constitution limits a person to two terms and he has done his two terms.

Who said he is going to be the President? I CLEARLY said “Acting President.”
Where does it say Mahinda cannot be the “Acting President?” Show me. :D :D He will be the Acting President for the FIRST TIME.
Know the difference. President is elected. Acting President is appointed. And according the 19A, if the current President is resigned, as the PM, MR can assume duties as the Acting President and run the country for the REMAINDER of the duration of office of the President.

      • 4

Ranil should bring in a motion to impeach the president while challenging MR’s appointment in court.

      • 0
        0

I think now. The FUNNY SIDE is not THAT funny actually.
India, clearly is against the President, not Ranil.
        Ranil is their pet.
Modi very recently met representatives of all political parties in Sri Lanka, including Mahinda. Ranil was also overseas, but he didn’t go to India at the time. Ranil went there only recently.
I thought something was amiss when Modi met all political party hierarchy in one shot, including the Speaker.
I remember warning the President for India’s unprecedented move.
If there is any move to remove the President through an impeachment, India will be the happiest.
I don’t think Ranil will jump to the idea at once. He will first strengthen his base. I wish this had happened differently.
What MR should remember is, any support to impeach the President will backfire on him as Ranil will never give him a chance once it is done.
Anyways, I still think there is something hidden here on the part of the President appointing MR as the PM. President’s body language says …

They haven’t congratulated the new PM either. Ok, too early, may be.
I am sure they have contacted Ranil already or he may have sought their support. Remember the recent statement by Mike Pence?
MR has a rough path ahead. But he is strong willed. I wish him all the very best and the Blessings of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

There WON’T be any army coup. Sinhalese won’t support it. Besides, it will pave the way for foreign armies to land in Sri Lanka and we will never be able to send them back. Do we want that? Of course, not.

Following today’s developments in #SriLanka closely and with concern. We call for all parties and competent authorities to ensure that the constitution is respected and due political process followed.”

    Hindustan Times:

” Sirisena won elections against Rajapakse in 2015 on a platform of economic reform and accountability for atrocities committed during his opponent’s 10-year iron-fisted rule which saw the bloody end of Sri Lanka’s brutal civil war.

Colombo was on the verge of facing economic sanctions from Western nations over Rajapakse’s human rights record before his government lost office.

Sirisena’s decision to appoint his former foe prime minister threatens the Indian Ocean island nation with fresh turmoil just as it was trying the emerge from the shadow of the civil war, and the legality of the move is disputed.”

I was most interested in what India has officially said on this. Indian reporters aroused a suspicion on all Lankawe leaders’ recent visit to Modi on this matter.

I don’t trust India. From time to time they change their stance on our leaders.
First they were very close to Mahinda. Then they hatched a conspiracy to ousted him using Maithri.
This is the same game. This time it is against Maithri. They are using Mahinda this time.
Maithri is cunning. He won’t jump to the trap. He already left a small hitch which I don’t want to say.

This fellow must realize he’s a born loser and is not fit to even manage a tea kiosk!
He should at least at this juncture, step down from his “cloud nine” and give up politics once and for all and perhaps join his “amba yahaluwa” Mangala in dress making for ladies and transvestites!
