Responding to President Maithripala Sirisena in writing, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he was still the “constitutionally appointed Prime Minister” of Sri Lanka.
“I write to inform you that I am the constitutionally appointed Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and continue in that office and that I command the confidence of Parliament as contemplated in article 42(4) of the constitution,” the Prime Minister’s letter said.
President Maithripala Sirisena earlier, in a letter to UNP Leader Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, has formally informed that the latter has been sacked from the Prime Minister’s position.
Sirisena has informed Wickremesinghe that he has been sacked from the position according to article 42(4) of the constitution.
However, making a public statement from Temple Trees, a short while ago, Ranil Wickremesinghe said he was still the Prime Minister of the country as he has clearly demonstrated his majority support in the House.
The letter has been been faxed to the Prime Minister’s Office at 10.22 pm, nearly three hours after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa took oaths as the new Prime Minister.

This is not “I told you,ll so ” moment. But there are so many political pundits authoring their essays and hundreds of readers giving opinions in CT. For some time I have repeating my own opinions and even few days ago I predicted this end result. 1) I said from day one there is no SLFP or JO it is all together Mahindas party/now SLPP. 2) The grand GOP of Bandas called SLFP is fully replaced by MR,s SLPP. 3)I never trusted MS as a politician pre or post presidency. 3) I also maintained that Lankan constitution is just a piece of paper which handy in packing rice parcels. 4) I predicted the coming strategy of SLPP clearly saying JO and MS are proxies as in sleeper cells waiting to bring down RW.
