“I Can’t Do This Job” – Maithri Throws Tantrum And Leaves Cabinet Meeting

President Maithripala Sirisena stormed out of a Cabinet Meeting this morning claiming that he ‘cannot run the government’ (mata aanduva karanna behe).

Sirisena

The President had lamented that he is being attacked from all sides, claiming that the website Lankaenews sling mud at him because advertising has not been given, that he has been called a pickpocket (obviously referring to a speech by Colombo District UNP MP S.M. Marikar who called him ‘Pickpocket President’) and that he’s also being ridiculed on Facebook.

After he stormed out, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and a few others including Malik Samarawickrama, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Kabir Hashim had followed the President to convince him to return, Colombo Telegraph learns. Following a discussion that went on for about an hour where SLFP ministers such as Mahinda Samarasinghe, Duminda Dissanayake and Mahinda Amaraweera also took part the President had agreed to return.

The President had remained silent throughout the rest of the proceedings.

Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that it is the President’s practice to have breakfast with his son Daham who updates his father about comments on social media. Reference to several adverse comments and news stories is supposed to have irked the President and pushed him to throw a tantrum at the Cabinet Meeting.

Lankaenews states that an NGO has completed an independent gallup poll predicting the election results. I cannot confirm the credibility of this but apparently the UNP stands to win 38% of the total vote, the SLPP to receive 27%, the SLFP 13%, the JVP 7% and the TNA, SLMC and other minority parties will get 15%.

If this is true, then the SLFP members will start fleeing to the Rajapaksa gang.

Maithri knows this. If only you had focused more on strengthening the country without strengthening the party, he would have been better off.

    Aiyo Sirisena!

PS: Wonder which UNP member Sirasa is going to attack today.

      Aiyo Sirisena, aka Gamarala,

      ‘Mata Anduwa Karanna Beha’

You came on stage with good hopes, but had you delivered on a good fraction of the Yahapalaya promise, you would have been sitting pretty.

      Peter Principle…

“Mama Seka Kalemi, Mama Dena Garthimi”
I suspected, and I came to know.

“Api Seka Kalemu, Api Dena Garthimu”
We suspected, and We came to know.

I think we need to take stock of ourselves. Are we being fair by this man who is trying to do a job as best as he knows and -like the rest of us – fail occasionally, while succeeding sometimes.

Exploiting each and every action of his could only be termed fair, if the same discourtesy was shown towards his predecessor. That was not the case as we had no guts.

Calling him by names is simply not ‘on’. It is reprehensible. To make him the laughing stock is inhumane and uncharitable. It could only be termed acceptable if the same treatment was meted out to Mahinda Rajapakse. It was not. Only cowards pound a non assuming, gentle person.

President Sirisena was all fine, when we had to use him to oust Rajapakse. Now that the task is done, we deride him for his shortfalls.

Criticize him by all means, but let such criticism not be personal. Criticize the decisions; the actions, so that he too may learn but not on a personal note.

I also think the fissure between the Premier and the President was created in the press and then pressed on until – possibly – it is now beginning to take shape and form in concrete. I hope I am entirely wrong.

          Absolutely, dear Justice and Fairplay.

Who are the guys who mock in this nasty way? They may have a smattering of English. Yes, only a smattering, no real Education.

None of the authorities came up with any explanation when I wrote three articles to which links cannot be given because CT has not been yet able to solve technical issues. Please google “Thomian Pharisees” to see both my identities and, for those who can read between the lines, the corruption even in places where we least expect them.

I have never wavered from my belief that My3 is essentially a decent man, with certain values. The odds have been so much stacked against him owing to lots of vested interests.

Please try to identify those interests before we cast votes that will cause reverberations at National Level.

That NGO definitely should a UNPATRIOTIC party supporting WESTERN NGO. Otherwise even the all time party supporters are disgruntled about what bond scam Ranil did.Who wants to have a meeting with four babk robbers. All four should be in the jail. PCOL judges even did not question two in order to save them. One clarified and he was doing that for three years. Now he is talking about watching moves, doing RAPP dances, and all other BS.

Whether in Life, Business or politics opportunities don’t last for ever. Procrastination destroys those opportunities. That is what happened to Sirisena and this government. People elected this government for change and accountability for the frauds and crimes of the past govt. Two years have gone by and there is nothing to show for.

Times past governments were able to suppress public decent by suppressing media but with fb, twitter etc. that is not possible anymore.

        Burt

Please tell me whether Dr Mahinda Rajapaksa (LLD), Dr Gotabhaya Rajapaksa (DSc), and Basil Rajapaksa (10, 20, 30%) are still members of SLFP? If they are then on what basis they are campaigning for SLPP? Does SLFP allow dual membership? Why hasn’t SLFP taken any action against the brothers membership of SLFP?

        • 2
          0

          NV:
The said goons have not officially joined the Sri Lanka Pimps and Perverts but for all material purposes are the founding members.

Here too the blame should fall on My3 and the governing body of SLFP. They should have been expelled but unfortunately My3 does not seem to have a backbone.

This also gives an indication who is protecting the brothers from the law.

      • 2
        0

I agree with Burt on the above comment. There was a lot of twiddling of toes and the UNP in particular showed they had none of the guts that JR had, when sending home a very honourable lady by comparison, without her civic rights.

Had the UNP in particular, deprived all the Rajas under scrutiny of their Civic Rights to start with, and gone hell for leather in finding out what were the misappropriations if any, and remained squeaky clean themselves, even if they had failed in their bid- the people would have understood. Today, I know quite a lot who voted for the UNP 3 years ago, will vote for the JVP instead. The rhetoric of the old guard is no longer fair currency for the electorate.

“If this is true, then the SLFP members will start fleeing to the Rajapaksa gang.”

If this is a potential serious threat to President’s authority and the government can he not legislate to ban cross overs?

      • 2
        0

I don’t think a ban of cross over will stand a legal challenge but he can change the election laws which actually should be done, that is if an MP crosses over he loses the seat and voters cast their vote for party policies, not individuals and whether a person is an MP or not if he changes party he or she should not be allowed to contest for public office for five years.

    Ok. THAT IS FINE .
    JVP MAY BE LAUGHING NOW.
    GOOD NEWS FOR JVP .
THIS TIME JVP WILL.HAVE A LION SHARE OF ALL VOTES .
    HOPE SO ..

    • 12
      3

Since 1971, this is what JVP did almost 50 years. Just laugh !,
Support one party during an election, then oppose!. This is what they did 1979, 1994, 2001, 2005 and 2015. Never supported any government to complete at least first 5 years. JVP as party is the No 1 culprit !

But JVP members are good people CAN NOT run government in national Level.
The only good thing must happen is all local administration should be with JVP and the National Government has to be bipartisan.

ARE WE MATURED ENOUGH ?? ARE WE INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO THINK COUNTRY FIRST AND CHOOSE OUR VOTE WISELY??

      • 2
        2

JVP has a food think thank…
It needs some more local and national members.
They have some.plan to expand it .
They have local and national politicians..
        Most often they are graduates..
So they can get lost talented ones.
They give priory to talents; skills and characters of its members .
Not for just some political influence or family ties.
Let them grow slowly and gradually.
Do not try to jump these queues.
Do not be envey of them.
They are a good team of people.
I have seen sincere people like them in any party .
Do not spread false about them..

Irrespective of who informs the president of social media news, the man had enough reason to be angry. I doubt if he did it on someone else’s instruction.
The UNP is bitter about MS’s action on the Bond scam.
They see it as undermining the UNP.
Yahapalanaya is not a team job, but a bitterly contested match at the end of which there will be no winner— and that makes no difference to the country.

My3 storming out of the cabinet meeting because the SC judgement was not as he expected, is like a petulant child screaming and throwing toys out of the pram because he had wetted his nappy.
He cannot afford to behave in the way he has and let down the people who reposed trust and believed the promises he made and cast their votes that he will abide and act to fulfill those promises.
He feels personally threatened and defensive because he is unable to work with the people who are around him because he is incapable of separating the problems that confronts him and the people he has to work with.If he only listens to the people who he has to work with and appreciate their concerns then he would be successful if he is aware that we’ll known theory of psychology, the theory of cognitive dissonance, which is that people dislike inconsistencies and that they would like to eliminate it.

I think the Gang of four came to ask the President not to release the report at tall or until the elections are over. PResident snubbed the gang of four thieves. I heard even the some country in the west doe snot like report being released. For example MOODY Rating Agency has given NEGATIVE rating to Sri lanka. World bank is also saying next year will be bad. This year Sri lanka’s growth is ZERO%. But IMF says Sri lanka is doing financially fine. BOND SCAM RANIL Wants to get advice from IMF to restructure the Central bank, when only restructuring needed is to re move politicians interfering in the bank. A sri lankan economic has explained it very well.
further to tall of this, there is a prediction either late 2018 or 2019 there will be another world recession. Sri lanka is an importing country. Saudi Arabia is also thinking about AUSTERITY” MEASURES. that is the IMF/USA advice to every country except for them. Sri lanka is becoming a GREECE under the UNP economist bond Scam Ranil and the Financial management.

If Maithripala’s breakfast meeting with his son Daham is a regular occurrence, then Daham needs to get a better idea of how to probe into social media sites, since the criticisms of Maithripala S as prez started long time ago within the social media community.

So much so for Daham’s feedback, yet Maithripala claims to have heard some critical information within his own government from the print media ( the latest being the news of the change of operating times of the liqueur shops).

As I see it, the Prez has an oblique vision of reality, and works on a political ( and not a NATIONAL strategy ) that does not extend beyond the tip of his nose. Thus the relevance of the information he receives in making his decisions are insignificant.

Oh, c’mon, Mr. President. You outsmarted cunning fox Ranil who excelled in dirty tricks in many instances. Why do you bother about a few cheap smear campaigns against you? Don’t you understand they cannot stand your resolve and perseverance and their aim is to break you? Though I didn’t vote for you, you were elected to be the Head of State while others only represent mere electoral districts. Be a man, not a worm, Mr. President.
    .
Executive Presidency should be protected for the sake of the Sinhalese nation. Who wants Ranil as the Executive Prime Minister or Hotu Pohottuwa/Basil who made the Joint Opposition vulnerable and took as his hostage in support of Ranil, to decide the future course of the country?
    .

      2

You, Mr. President fell for Ranil’s trap by endorsing his Delimitation Report which is totally in favour of UNP and Tamil/Muslim parties expanding their representation in LG bodies. 15% compulsory women’s representation is a joke. You should take time to review the Delimitation Report again. The closing date for public submission was November 2. Nobody was interested in the Delimitation Report at the time as the entire country was concentrated fully on Federal Committee Report debate which took place late Oct/early Nov. Ranil played his tricks again by diverting people’s attention from the Delimitation Report. The increase is number of members in double in certain districts, obviously favourable to UNP, Tamil, Estate Tamil and Muslim parties are controversial and detrimental to Sinhalese. I have made this request many times. Please peruse the Delimitation Report again. It is absolutely necessary. You promised to hold a All Party Conference to review the Delimitation Report. I believe the final Report is due in January. You may have to postpone the LG elections until Delimitation matter is resolved. Who cares? What matters to us is the country.

Yes, My3, it is a tough job, but you’ve got to stay the course. Please act fearlessly for the next two years, and make sure that you firmly silence those sycophants who would have you stay an extra year, and those others who would like to see you contesting again in 2020.

Once you’ve made up your mind that it’s just two years more, there should be little reason for tolerating around you so many unsavoury characters who have been rejected by the people. Many of them, besides, have been crossing over from party to party. Professional politicians.

Those who left the SLFP with you are a different sort. By now, I must confess that I’m not sure in to which box each of these characters has to be put. It is just too confusing. Mine is a floating vote, but I know what I want.

I want a clean administration that will deal justly and fairly with all social groups. A non-racist Presidency is what you promised; well, give us that! Investigate the past – fearlessly. Three years ago , you seemed to understand the risks that you were taking.

You are only slightly younger than me. We can’t go on for ever. You’ve achieved much in life – but many aspects of your governance for the past three years have been unsatisfactory because you’ve been timorous. Now act fearlessly – that way the risks are actually less.

It will also be the right thing to do!

When I commented I hadn’t noticed that last paragraph about “breakfast with Daham” which was separated from the rest by an advertisement, which I have now caused to collapse.

Ads provide necessary funding, so I’m not complaining! It’s part of reality, just like My3’s not very bright son. We have to live with all this – there will never be a perfect world. And none of this changes the message that I have tried to send to this man in whom we reposed so much trust.

My3 really must rise above the circumstances that he finds himself in. However different his background may be from those of most of the readers here, the fact is that he is an intelligent man, and he ought to be performing better.

Pambaya is always Pambaya. How many people mocked Mahinda in the social media sites. He never took them seriously. This guy is suffering from a huge minority complex and it could drive him crazy. But, I don’t think the “Masters” would let this government fall unless of course they have another plan.

What the hell is a “minority complex”? If your referring to “inferiority complex” that is a god given attribute of the Sinhala Buddhists. This is the reason although they are superior in number to all other races and religions they want guarantees through the constitution.

The attitude and the mind set of the people of this country has to change. It is not the party or the government that need to be changed.
Majority people are so corrupt and they elect corrupt rogues to the parliament.
Unless we Vote and ELECT right minded people from any party, this country will never prosper.
What average citizen does is go to work, talk about politics, come home watch TVnews( all political garbage) then tele drama and watch political debates, Frustrated man sleeps and get up rush to work and talk politics. This is typical cycle of lankans..

To change is all religious leaders, schools, universities and civil societies have lot more to do take the LEAD of this country NOT THE POLITICIANS. Stop blaming the politicians they are representation of this society and it is your CHOICE. We appoint them, because we are corrupt and we like them to be like US.

F— the UNP. After the bond scam I have no trust in you! I am now convinced if this was not a unity government and only a UNP gov, people would know nothing of the bond scam especially the degree of collusion. And you green-goblins *COUGH* I mean UNP supporters throwing excuses like “what about MR’s corruption” is not going to change the fact that you TOTALLY BETRAYED the people who voted for change on the 8th of January 2015. I repeat THIS IS ON YOU! Maybe we should make R. Sampanthan the PM.

Ex CB Boss Cabral challenged the President to come clean and say publicly that there was corruption in Sovreing Bond issues from 2008 to 2014. Because that is what the PM Dr Ranil told the Parliament after the President received the Yahapalana Bond Rorts Report…
As the Ex Economics Minister Bandula pointed out these allegations of Dr Ranil are serious stuff which will lead to a loss of confidence among the Bond Holders from the West and lead to a rush to take the money and run.
Sira can play politics to hoodwink our naive Sinhala Buddhists who are the majority.
International Investors do not play politics with their Money…Although the British and American Embassies and their NGO’s try to portray that Western Investors do care about the inhabitants and want to help them..
Will there be a run on the Bond Market.?
The whole investment community now know how Dr Ranil and his mate Dr Mahendran robbed the CB and the EPF.
Will they want to see their cronies, Aloysous and Co trying to rob them too?.
I don’t think Sira cares about Marrikkar after the latter took that clip across the ear from Loku Banda.
What concerns Sira is the current corrupt Monetary System of Dr Ranil and his UNP administration which is ruining the Economy while fattening the pockets of the UNP supporters…..
And the possibility of Srilanka becoming a Junk Bond nation like Greece.
And Sira getting the blame for it. when he is trying desperately to get a second chance and make the platform for his beloved son or daughter to have a go at the big Gig….

When President displayed partiality by releasing only the Bond PC report and not the 34 other PC reports where SLFP members are involved, he should have expected a revolt in the Yahapalana Govt. President knows that his section of SLFP is going to be the third party in the election, and he also knows Mahinda’s support is firm, so only other alternative is to gain UNP votes, hence all his recent actions are focused on attacking UNP. If he attacks UNP he also should accept when UNP attacks him. As the President of the country he should have been neutral. His biggest mistake so far has been taking over the leadership of SLFP. He did not have the mandate of SLFP members/supporters when he was elected, how could he accept SLFP leadership? If he was neutral and gave the leadership to Chandrika or another member who is a strong supporter of himself and who is against Mahinda, he could have hit two mangoes with one stone. He did not do it, so he has to face the consequence and not run away like this. By telling the Cabinet to run the Government on their own is equal to neglecting his duties to the Nation as the Head of the Government.

As a matter of fact, she fed with Appa and split him from Old. She carry the responsibility now to fix her mistake.
Kalu also right on Junk Bond talk. As you guys know it is for your support the notorious Colombo Media started to blow Bonds out of proportion, but hiding all others. We has written earlier that CB and 2nd buyers may have to turn around and kick on their buttock nobody fix this problem..

We need to be mature and make tough decisions without trying to be popular. If right decisions are made to produce good fruit, then people will value leadership of that nature. Always must do the right thing at the right time and be in the right place with justice. Never fear any man no matter what they say. Fear God, as government belongs to him who created this awesome universe in love and wisdom. He put H.E there to bless his nation going off course and to bring peace.
Imagine what SAITM students on a govt. approved course with rights felt when with one wave of a hand they hear the words “SAITM is abolished” simply because psychopaths are shouting in the streets accompanied by a suicide squad of parents beating north and south insurrections. To be shocked into thinking that the future of 1000 youth are blasted in one breath will surely shift our atmospheres. To complicate matters further is even a bigger crime when a simple solution will settle this nation ever so rapidly, leading to bring out the very best of the population. This corrupt atmosphere should not overshadow citizens. Release justice. Someday we will all die anyway.

      Dear “No nonsense”,

That respect that you have for principled action is something that is very lacking today. I admire you for your convictions.

You sound rather “right-wing”. Nothing wrong in that! However, I fear that some of these problems may be rather more complex than you see them.

On the other hand, forthrightness, courage, and a determination face up to issues are very necessary. As you say, we die some day, and so it is best to live so that we face whatever end there is with honesty.

Mr.Sirisena, you went back on your promises. Did you open the road in front of the Temple at kandy? NO. Did you block the courts from acting against rogues and killers .
Your actions are petty. Viz asbastos,- the poor are affected not the rich. Paddy- the famer is affected – you acted on ratanayas dead rope.Glyphosate- anther Ratanaya’s dead ropess.

Asbestos and paddy; I’m an authority on neither.

However, there are long term AND short term effects that must be balanced. I buy some agro-chemicals; use a little. Somebody says expiry date reached after half has been used. How was the rest disposed of? Nobody remembers.

We put artificial fertilisers in the soil. The earth worms die. It all adds up to possible long-term catastrophe. I’m no expert in these areas of knowledge, but we think that we can use so much of technology.

What happens to electronic waste? What happens to discarded lithium batteries? They are supposed to retain toxicity for millennia.

Meanwhile, we quarrel over language and ethnicity.

        0

Sinhala Man, Thank you for agreeing. I too agree that problems are complex and also compounded with karmic overloads beyond imagination over aeons of time. The solution is simple and let me illustrate. A man called Habakkuk questioned his God ” we are your people. why do you allow violence against us?” The reply was ” my people have pride and insatiable greed, injustice released for evil gain, build cities with innocent blood shed, get drunk for immorality, worship man created dead idols to get money. A wicked nation will invade my people whom I will then save. Then they will trust me. Later I will punish the wickedness of the invading nation” Habakkuk had joy and peace as he lived a right lifestyle.

Dr Marrakri of young UNP leader is that member of Parliament who advocated ISIS of Islam politics has made recently. He made very import speech against President MS? He is that very correct position as young leader of UNP, which he side about President of SL?

Hon member of Parliament of UNP Dr Marrakri that his views that not his personal one which is the view of entire top rank of UNP leadership timely holding. It shows that UNP will launch new Presidential candidature after 2019 end of MS term of President will expire………..@

Needless to say currently UNP police bodies, key leaders organization is fully control by ISIS of Islam ideologues that behind the screen .Therefor Dr Kabir Husuan Rahuman ,Rashied Buddidean anf Raful Hakkim are key players of UNP inside the Parliaments and as well as outside the Parliament.

Most Islam or Muslim members top ranking leaders has taken over UNP party Operation. By doing that its political weakness of Ranil Wicks an open that mode of unwise set of policies pave way Muslim domination in whole party operation.

Result of that of National party of UNP under the control of Islam political ideologist of by Muslim strategist and tactics ………..Sri lanka!

It seems the President finally got it in his thick head that he is out of his depth. Obviously he would have known from the beginning that the job is beyond his capability but MR would have inspired him & thought it would be a just a matter of riding it out on the gravy train.

I would forgive his dithering & ineffectiveness as a leader of the country & be more sympathetic if not for his blatant nepotism & cronyism.

    Mr.President!
Every one will be happy that at the Breakfast Meeting you did not ‘Break Your Fist’ by breaking some body’s head. We can understand your anger and appreciate your reaction. If you had displayed this attitude at least after 100 days of your rule the need to say “I can’t do this job” may not have arisen.. Unfortunately as you came into power with various self-centered people you were compelled to satisfy all of them and thus created this jigsaw puzzle from where you are unable to extricate yourself.
If you had taken prompt action against Rajapakse & Co at least within an year of your election you would have been held in high esteem by the people who voted for you. By your inaction in every respect, releasing the lands, releasing the political prisoners, catching hold of the thieves in your ‘pocket’ like Ranil and company you would have been hailed as the ‘Man of the Match’. It is a pity that You were not You. Instead you were worried about your position. It is not too late even now. The Tone of Anger you display in your speech now- if put into action will bring the desired results.
    Wish you luck.

To be a Head of State one needs to have a thick skin like that of a Hippopotamus.
MaRa of course had a thicker skin than that of a Hippo!

This exhibition of President MS only drives home the point that he is anything but not Presidential material.

Colombo Telegraph reliably learns that it is the President’s practice to have breakfast with his son Daham who updates his father about comments on social media.

Apparently very unprofessional and immature briefing!

Mr. President, Mr. President ask your son to read this for you. When you are in the high office, these are part and parcel of it, and constant and daily occuramces. You should expect good and bad criticism from all, from your friends and foe, from with in and out of the country, It’s your duty to take it in a stride, and nevigate through these storms with cool to reach your destination. By your loosing your cool, reacting badly and getting emotional are fodder for the opposition and not good trait of a strong person. Come what may, in whatever situation, strong and firm leaders, maintain utmost calm and cool.

This article is lies. This should be the anti-Sirisena campaign by UNPATRIOTIC party and most probably all the NGOs and those who wants a new constitution etc., The truth is UNPATRIOTIC party is trying hard to cover up the their 40 day govt bank and employee provident funds robbery involving their leader, deputy leader and most of the MPs in the party.
It looks President has snubbed NOT THE CABINET BUT THE FOUR THIEVES OF THE UNPATRIOTIC PARTY that destroy the country.
Ct has given a different impression by writing the wrong title.

He should be using his Executive Powers to get things done his way. There is no point of just listening, and hoping others would take decision and actions on his behalf to satisfy his requirements; they would not and misuse their opportunities. Lanka e-news has no sense of discipline and they publish any old rubbish, and if thugs like marikkaya had been speaking derogatory remarks about the Pres for no good reason, he should get the police or his own lawyer to send marikkaya a suitable reciprocal legal response. I guess that the vast majority of UNPers and SLFPers are doing their utmost to undermine the Pres, and his answer should be to arrest the lot and chuck them in the jail. Democracy could be brought back to the country only when the politicians demonstrate that they know how to behave properly and discharge their responsibilities with full accountability.

UNPpatriotic party VOTERS say that MARIKKAR is OPPortunistic and he is upset with the president for not taking him in the QATAR trip. So, he has accused PResident as PICK POCKET PRESIDENT because he is fishing good MPs in the UNPATRIOTIC Party into the other side. Anyway, PickPocket PResident is far far better than a BANK ROBBER – PRIME MINISTER. HIS name and his party’s name should be in the Guinness book for the greatest bank heist in the Sri lankan history as the 100 day program of the govt. HE did it within 40 days.

God, or if you want to call it “karma”, fate etc has put you in charge of a plundered nation, that was, in 1948 regarded to be economically and socially better than India, Singapore and Malaya by far. This nation was plundered by the politicians of ALL colours, the LTTE, the JVP and foreign powers. YOU do not walk out of your Cabinet, you kick-out ALL who are disruptive and useless. YOU do not keep silent, others keep silent when you speak. Now, YOU sir have a moral obligation to RULE this nation, not let yourself be ruled. If you cannot do this, please, please resign but before you do that, make sure you do NOT give the Presidency to R.W.

Disce aut, disce de. Rule or get out.

      I agree with you, Kumaran.

Yes, My3 should be much more firm. I hope that he ponders on the sound advice that you have given him, and acts more constructively that walk out.

On the other hand, I think that it is a positive that at least he is moved to anger by all the evil and corruption around him.

My3 has been weak, My3 has compromised, My3 has promised the minorities much, but has given little. However, My3 is also a more decent human being than most other politicians. As Plato has stated above, he is unfortunately not “Presidential material”.

It may be a back-handed compliment that I am paying him when I say that when his entire life has to be assessed, it’ll have to be said that he was a good but weak man.

Hail to thee Maithri, as such a human.

This gamsrala of a President spent a large proportion of his official time in jaunts to various parts of the world. Those jaunts were just to satisfy his personal vanity. He can’t speak English and is a real gamsrala come to town.He has learnt the lesson of his life.you can’t reach the top by cutting the throats of your. Friends.

Percy, I agree that the jaunts were too many.

However, when you listen to My3 speaking, you realise that he has read a lot; some of it may even have been in English. Ability to SPEAK English (in a Sri Lankan context where so much prestige is arbitrarily attached to this language that is foreign to most, although not to us). That ability depends so much on early childhood upbringing.

How effectively have we taught English to those families who did not acquire it in Colonial Times? What actions of our forbears enabled our families to acquire fluency in the language? Are you not mocking all those who produce food for us the way you have worded your comment?

It serves little purpose to pour water on a ducks back, but I have come to respect you, Percy, as a thinking man?

As for throat-cutting, the Rajapaksas have done enough of that. I am unfamiliar with both the geographical area and the times, but my grand-uncle was both both boss and predecessor in the State Council of MaRa’s Uncle, Don Mathew. How did even my ancestors acquire some English? Most of my extended family have now renounced citizenship of this country. They want to flee this land; it doesn’t much matter where they land.

Don’t you think, dear Percy, that those also are factors that we must take in to account?

He can go back and resume sand mining from the rivers while the poor are restricted.
