I Stand Fully & Firmly By What I Said, But It Was As Private Opinion

By Dayan Jayatilleka –

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

Uvindu Kurukulasuriya (whom I regard as a friend, though less so now) has posted on his Facebook, and subsequently posted on his website Colombo Telegraph, a scanned or photocopied printout of a private email sent by me. I am not questioning the authenticity of the email and its contents, of which I am indeed the author, in my private capacity.

I say “private email” because I have (a) used my long-standing private email address (b) not addressed the new Prime Minister, former President Rajapaksa officially in the body of the email or (c) signed even my surname let alone my designation. For these reasons I regard the posting/publication of this email, or otherwise releasing it to the public domain, as unethical.

As a citizen of Sri Lanka deeply concerned about national and public events, I have every right to communicate with whosoever I choose to, and strive to provide inputs I regard as in the national and public interest, thereby influencing outcomes in a direction I think best, so long as I do so privately– and I have every right to expect my right to privacy to be respected. As such it was sent as a private email to a person I regard as a political leader of long acquaintance, and certainly not as part of an official communique from an Ambassador to the Prime Minister appointed by the Head of State, who is my appointing authority.

As a public intellectual I have given political advice freely in the public domain since the 1980s, i.e. for over 30 years. For the last 5 and half years before this appointment, I have done this in my fortnightly political analysis program on national television, as the Sri Lankan public is well aware. The attempt to portray the suggestion of a name for Foreign Minister as some privilege accorded to me is ludicrous.

Now that my private email is in the public domain, I think it best to reproduce the full text, so it can be read clearly rather than speculated upon. It was as follows, and I quote:

1. The initiative should never be allowed to see-saw. The offensive momentum should be seized and maintained by the new Government.

2. The reactionary forces should never be allowed to consolidate and sustain a parallel power center/command center at Temple Trees.

3. The US State Department statement is a blatant interference in our sovereignty and should be replied to.

4. The counterrevolution is mobilizing internationally and the US embassy in Colombo, which has four officers posted from the Ukraine, will attempt to destabilize the new Government.

5. The struggle will be fought out on the global arena. We must have a very able, senior, experienced, politically mature, ideologically clear and consciously anti-imperialist Foreign Minister. I suggest Dinesh Gunawardena.

6. There must be a massive mass mobilization– as big or bigger than Galle Face 2017– to demoralize the rightwing reactionary forces.

7. In the battle of arguments, ideas, and ideology, the Enemy is on the offensive and we are on the defensive!

I stand firmly by every single word I have said—except that a post script is required on a single matter. At the time of emailing (sent on Oct 29th 2018 at 3:18 pm), I did not know that the Cabinet had been appointed and Dr. Amunugama, whose name I had advocated as Foreign Minister for years in the mass media (including on CT), had been appointed to the post. He had never been given the chance and I thought he may have lost interest and may not be in the running or even on the shortlist.  After Mangala Samaraweera was removed and before Tilak Marapona was appointed, I strongly urged ex-President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga across the table at the Pakistani National Day reception, that she intervene to secure the appointment of Dr. Sarath Amunugama, whose ample suitability for the post she well knew. She did not disagree but said “they don’t always do what I say, but I’ll try”. I was delighted by the choice of Dr Amunugama and have applaued his appointment publicly.

I always hated this guy. I knew those known to him. Not a single person revealed any good about his person. And from what I read on CT – that became even clearer.

I will continue hating this man more from today on

It now become clear that this political coup is well planned by both Mahinda and Sirisena with the influence of China and Russia. That is why Sirisena suddenly sent this guy as ambassdor to China. Recently Sirisena changed Chief Justice and the stories such as that Mahinda can become President for life etc was spreaded. During this period negotiations to buy minority parties and UNP MPs were made and billions were exchanged and with the advise of Dayan the coup was happened on a Friday and immediately prorogue the parliament was announced by Sirisena. This is a very threat to International community and India. China is ready to fund billions to Mahinda & Sirisena. For this help by China, they must have promoised to China to hand over this land. We all know previous ambassdor to China earned million dollars and I think similar deals must have exchanged between China and the current Russian ambassdor. These criminals should be brought under justice in Srilankan courts and jailed forever.

He has done a “Hillary Clinton!”

Dayan was always a slimy, self serving parayah. JR took his trousers off, MR kicked him out, Ranil did not want him. Now he has joined MR again and wormed himself to MS.

How did such a private email leak at such a sensitive time?
Is Mahinda / Vasu friends with the editor of Colombo Telegraph?
[We know Lasantha Wickrematunge used to be friends with Mahinda — and, hey, look where that got him to!!]

Whether in a private or public capacity it is stupid for an Ambassador to send out an un-encrypted mail be it from the Embassy computer system or from his domestic computer. The mail must have been hacked dozens of times by Sri Lankan, Russian, US, British and other intelligence agencies and by specialists hired by political interests. Only fools don’t know that everything in the electronic media is ‘hackable’.

(DJ is a traitor to the country. A diplomat has no right to indulge so deeply in partisan politics and call it personal. Treacherous!)

    Dayan,
So, in your private UNDAYA capacity you’re working to promote a coup to destroy democracy, while in your public clown role you’re representing the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Rest assured you will face the full wrath of the law for treason when the inevitable fall of the two partners in crime, the Appaya & the Mafia Murderer comes soon.

    DJ
The scanned copy was quite readable.
I think that now you should add one more instruction: Exterminate the traitor who leaked the document (not declared confidential though).

BTW, why did it have to go through Cde V? No direct line to the boss?

” I am not questioning the authenticity of the email and its contents, of which I am indeed the author, in my private capacity.

By overriding CT’s news item by this in the opinion section, suspicion of original intention of purposeful leaking is supported.

If that is correct, can we know if it was intended what the purpose of leaking it to public is? Why is the purpose of directing an email through a Pakkaya comrade? Eventual witness to place a due claim for FAM?

If this opinion side essay claims that this email was initiated with public interest, what is the reason for objecting CT’s direct publishing of the E-mail to public perusal?

This despicable man is born to anything no matter how abominable or pernicious it is. He stoops to any low level if there is some benefit from any turn he takes.

Dayan is against US purely because he was expelled from a University in New York for academic dishonesty and plagiarizing. In fact US kicked him out for ever.

Yet, he accepts grants from US agencies. In mid 1980s, he and his dad received Rs 5 million as a grant from a US Foundation in Colombo and the grant was delivered after the particular Officer in this US Foundation hosted a dinner for both of them in an elite restaurant in Colombo.

He never rejected money from US. Shame on you man. You are a disgrace to whoever that begot you to this world.

We always knew you had scant regard for Democratic practices, but this simply provides ample proof of it.

The millions who voted against the vituperative, murderous, nepotistic politics of MR are your right wing reactionary counterrevolutionaries?

    You are truly disgusting.

Ah, who told this meddling fool about the United States allegedly shifting ‘four officers posted from the Ukraine’ to Sri Lanka? Does the US government discuss their strategy with Dayan or has Mr. Putin has found a ‘useful idiot’ to use for a bit of his own destabilization?

This man is a menace to the country and all decent people with his unscrupulous nature and his delusional vision of playing the part of a revolutionary. At least this leak commits him to one side for this brief moment. Dayan may end up living out his revolutionary fantasy, ala Lord Jim, if the ‘counter-revolution’ succeeds and he goes ‘to the wall’ where he belongs. This man has no regard for the lives of others as long as he gets to play out his fantasies of revolution. He’s a man of low character, a traitor to the country and a dangerous dilettante when it comes to politics who causes nothing but trouble with his buffoonish typing and pontificating. Will no one rid us of this turbulent pseudo-academic?

    Dayan,

“Private mail” is no excuse. If you, a public servant, steal in your private capacity, you still stand to lose your public office.
    .
If you discuss privately how to undermine public offices and officials, and you get caught, it is no longer your private matter!
    .
If you felt your suggestions were expert advise based on your political learnings, and were legitimate actionables with country’s intertest, why did you not publicly express you recomendations?
    .
Rushing now to find lame justification, after being exposed, just shows your nervousness!

Dayan – I stopped reading your article and commenting on them. You have fallen form the gutter to sewage long ago.you love swimming in the shit flushed out of the rajapakse’s toilet.

for you ; You and the rajapakse mobs are citizens of sri lanka ; those who want to uphold democracy are the enemies.

i think the give away is your last line …where you state “to rajapakse’s” that “…we are on the defensive…” that says it all an unintended admission that “you” are on the defensive because you are on the wrong…..

In the interest of the nation and it’s people, Dayan’s recommendations must be considered by the new govt. There is a clear interference from the West in order to continue it’s anti national agenda which needs to be defeated. Mass mobilisation is one clear option to face reactionary yahapalana junta and it’s local/foreign backers and propagandists.

“In the interest of the nation and it’s people, Dayan’s recommendations must be considered by the new govt.”

You know he is panic prophet/preacher and a paranoid public racist.
Ask yourself a question, is he the official salesman of arms manufacturers?

What is clear interference from the West and what is the national agenda other than building a Sinhala/Buddhist mutant fascist homeland (Ghetto)?

Dayan Jayathilake: do not think that any of the emails or any private work one do using the western software or websites are safe, those go to the clouds of those agencies. I know one Sanjana HAththotuwa wrote an article on behalf of journalists and presented to the US Senate Asking give some permission to continue secret activities (They sued some other wording). Both Myanmar and Sri lankan was included.

if it is private why send it to a politician and ask him to convey it
if he has anything to say it should be with the knowledge of the foreign minister whom he is under

Hello Fake Professor/Doctor, your half baked bull shit may have had an impact in pathetic Lanka , I doubt not any more. Because few clicks will get facts checked. So do not waste your energy. The dishevelled Vasu (do a favor, first get an appointment in any saloon for this homeless bugger ASAP before presenting him in public) ,clown prof Dinesh( he need to refer his own speech in last one month before he utters any thing because after lying so much he dosent even know the difference) and you(of course a well dressed white collar criminal of your own league) are living in a delusional grandiose world of your own . The international bodies have clearly understood how worth you guys are and now the locals too have started figuring it.

Dayan – apparently $23million dollars offered to buy a senior UNP MP to cross over.

    ……

    8. Rob, rob and continue to rob your country like only a patriot can.

This man is so confused he genuinely believes he and his Rajapakse friends are on the Left. For his information the Rajapakse cleptocracy has gone beyond “right” it is more like the Saudi Monarchy where the sons and brothers of the “Maha Rajah” have more power than a cabinet minister. When the time comes for his mega loans to be repayed there is will be no option but to sell the only thing we have, our land to foreigners. His white elephant vanity projects are bringing in negative revenue and will be a mill stone around our necks for the rest of our lives. Of course Comrade Dayan, living off the public purse, will still be sipping his Dom Perignon while re-reading his own book on Castro.

Oh and Uvindu Kurukulasuriya is no longer on his Christmas card list. Boo hoo..

Lankan Ambassador to Russia Dayan Jayatilleka stresses here that whatever he says here are ‘Private Opinions’.

    .

Dayan must keep private opinions to himself. Sure he is not suggesting that former Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunge (a very close relative of MR and Interpol fugitive) did what he did as a private citizen? Former Lankan Ambassador to US Jaliya Wickramasuriya (close relative of MR detained in US for financial crimes during his tenure)? How about the present Lankan Ambassador-Porter to Qatar ASK Liyanage?

    .

Dayan is trying to say that he was a good choice after all!

    Hey Dayan,

How “fully and firmly” you stand is of interest only to Mrs. Dayan. Or, perhaps, not even that!

(PS: Apologies – couldn’t help that trivial, may be somewhat inappropriate, comment that came begging! On the otherhand, given the shamefull write-ups and comments that Dayan so generously and regularly spits out, I think I should be OK.)
