Minister of National Languages and Social Integration, Vasudeva Nanayakkara today said that he too is against the Rajapaksa family bandism within the current regime.

Speaking at a media briefing this evening, Minister Nanayakkara said he is against so much power and authority being concentrated within the hands of the Rajapaksa family but added that his objection to Rajapaksa family bandism alone is not good enough reason for him to quit the coalition government.
He also said that has not and will never allow anyone in the Rajapaksa family to interfere with his Ministry.
“I will ensure that I put them in their rightful places, the day they attempt to make such interference,” he added.
The Minister also said that he does not believe the people should cast their vote to Mahinda Rajapaksa out of obligation, but added that he strongly believes that no leader except Mahinda Rajapaksa an abolish the Executive Presidency and implement the required constitutional amendments.
He added that it is that belief that drives him and his party to remain within the UPFA coalition.

I have no doubt this man Vasu is tied with a filled file as he cant leave the UPFA. Do we all know – even recently one of his nieces was posted to a Diplomatic vacancy irrespective of the numbers of properly qualified candidates are in the line.

Minister of National Languages and Social Integration, Vasudeva Nanayakkara stated he will take his own life, if the executive presidential system was not abolished during his lifetime.The statement was made at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (10).
During the briefing, he said the abolishment of the executive presidential system was essential and the executive powers should be bestowed upon the Parliament as a whole, since that was where the democratically elected representatives were in action.
The Democratic Left Front (DLF), General Secretary issued a ‘people-friendly’ public proposal of action for the government, to be put into action during a five-year period from 2015-2020. This proposal addressed several issues such as the abolishment of the executive presidency, a change in the electoral system as well as the introduction of an amicable tariff system. According to party members, the proposal was issued in order to strengthen the developmental approach this government had adopted back in 2005, when it came to power.
Furthermore, the minister said he was completely against nepotism and believed in the decentralization of power and authority.
“From 1977- 2005, the governing system was influenced by western reforms. But that changed when Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power in 2005. From 2005-2014, the governing system changed completely. What is happening currently is a struggle between these two forces,”, the minister said.

I remember him from his school days because he hails from my village called “Metarmba” in Unawatuna, Galle. He belonged to a wealthy family of businessmen. His family was then, one of the few who owned a car – that also an “Opel Recard”. While all his siblings traveled in that car in the morning to school, this lad (then) named Vasudeva Nanayakkara walked with us, bare footed to the Unawatuna Railway Station to travel to Galle. He, from those school days was a “revolutionist” in true sense of the word.After his school career, he actively engaged in politics with Dr. N.M.Perera and continued as an illustrious, strong “Leftist” who campaigned and worked towards uplifting the down trodden.
Today in his last lapse of life says: ” I too oppose Rajapakse Family Bandism, but it isn’t a reason to quit”. A man who even “revolted” against his family’s “Bandism” as belonging to a “wealthy” in our village, makes the above statement. What a FRAUD he is today? Better to leave him alone and think that “Vasudeva” who lived in Metarmbe, Unawatuna, Galle passed away long time ago. Amen.
