I Want My President To Be Honest, Articulate, And Smart

By Mohamed SR. Nisthar

Mohamed SR. Nisthar

There is an adage in Tamil, which goes “Arasan ev valiyoo kudihalum av valiyee”(meaning: whichever way the king heads towards, the subjects also go accordingly).  This has very much been the case before, during and after the 23rd CHOGM summit in our motherland, Sri Lanka.

Apart from ardent Tamil tiger supporters, almost all Sri Lankans are relieved that the military outfit was defeated to the level that they cannot regroup. But the question as to how quickly the government would create normalcy after a quarter century long bloodshed in the country and offer peace to indescribably affected Tamils in particular and others in general remained unanswered.  Days became weeks, weeks turned into months and now we are heading towards the last phase of the 5th full year since the notable event in May 2009.

The international community’s tacit approval given to the Sri Lankan government to have some time to enjoy their victory over the tigers seemed to have been interpreted wrongly by (the advisors of) the President and that prompted him enjoying the military victory indefinitely without realising that the international community is losing patience in waiting to see any meaningful measures or action plan in resolving the long burning issue of the ethnic question and also the President’s (government’s) accountability for the alleged war crimes and human right violations leading up to May 2009 and beyond respectively.

Regular elections have been conducted just to show the international community that Sri Lanka is not a country where the democratic process has no place. Once again it seems to be a misinterpretation of the (advisors of the) President that simply conducting elections, sometime before it is due, cannot mean to the international community, that a functioning democracy prevails in Sri Lanka in the right political sense.

The President, his government and the Sri Lankan diplomats all seem to have taken defensive positions whereas they have no solid defence as far as the allegation of war crimes and constant gross human rights violations against all minorities of the country are concerned. It’s evident from President to diplomats to Buddhists monks to politically innocent citizens of Sri Lanka, in the way media and foreign head of states, who are concerned about Sri Lanka’s human right record, are handled.

For many of us the “Grease Men” saga is a forgotten one, but it was the notorious act which rang the bell of things that were coming in the way of the peace loving people of this country. Fortunately these grease men did not enter Colombo or Hambantota, but in the areas predominantly populated by the country’s minorities. From Ampara district, to Trincomallea, to Jaffna to Puttalam; costing an innocent off duty police officer’s precious life and creating tension between Sinhalese and Muslims in the Holy month of Ramadan in 2010.   Counter terrorism experts of Sri Lanka could not help the government. Intelligence unit of military, police and civilian intelligence group (white van) of government were useless in finding these grease men.

I cannot recall anything said by the President about the grease men, but the defence secretary said, “if you find grease men do not do anything, but inform the police”. However we heard all the Grease men sought refuge at police stations and army barracks. What was the big idea that this high ranking servant of the people had in his mind when he asked the people to report to the police? What did he achieve by his hide and seek, a children’s game? How long did he think he could play with people so foolishly, however different ways he does his experiments?

Soon after the last UN’s General Assembly meeting the President was interviewed by Al-Jazeera and was asked particularly about then recent religious hatred against Muslims of Sri Lanka. Our President’s answer was somehow disgusting as he said that a few Muslims raped two small Sinhalese girls that provoked Sinhalese sentiment. The President simply forgot that more than 130 incidents against Muslims small and big occurred within two years. The President also forgot to indicate whether the very first incidents, demolition of a shrine at Anuradhapura or the attack on Dambulla Mosque, were the direct result of the so-called “rape of Sinhalese girls” and this concocted tale had any link to the rest of 129 or so incidents and renewed attacks on Mosques inner city of Colombo and Akkurana and recently closed prayer room in the General Hospital in Colombo where more than 75 Muslim medical staff work? And any possible attacks after the March 2014 Human Right Conference session in Geneva?

It seems that the President has indirectly confirmed that the Sri Lankan police force was not capable of carrying out meaningful investigations or making arrests of the criminal of the alleged rape or this is a pretext to put the other minority community under threat by his uncorroborated accusation.  The President also seems to have proved that the police are free to do whatever they like. Otherwise the police would not have abused their power by asking three Mosques not to facilitate the performing of prayers to its devotees a couple of months ago.

A further question of huge army deployment in the Jaffna region in the same interview to the President was met by his counter question; “does any country ready to station my army in their country” and “we have to decide the size of the army and where to keep them, if every part of the country asks the government to take the army back from their administrative area, where do we end up”.  The President might have thought that his counter question was a very good answer to the question asked by Al-Jazeera.  But the content of the question seems not to have been understood by the President. For anyone with reasonable understanding the content of the question would have been that “war was over some four years ago, can a tiny country like Sri Lanka afford such a huge army and why is one part of the country being treated differently?”

During the CHOGM Sri Lanka’s top diplomat, the High Commissioner to London, Dr. Chris Nonis was interviewed by CNN and BBC.  My Sinhalese fellow countryman in my neighbourhood praised him for his “brilliant” advocacy (or manipulation if you like). I did not see any acumen in it, but blatant lies.

Dr. Nonis started saying that Sri Lanka has a 2500 year old rich culture, there has been functioning democracy, people can elect their representatives through fair elections, people enjoy freedom of speech, country is being developed, people feel safety, etc, etc.   Then he lectured the interviewer on “sovereignty” saying we do not interfere in your country’s affairs, so we expect corresponding standard of behaviours from you, a poor interpretation of sovereignty by the super diplomat.

The interviewer then asked about human right violations in Sri Lanka. Dr. Nonis uttered something like that human right issues are not confined to Sri Lanka alone, every country has issues. Dr. Nonis did not understand that the questions were not something like interfering in a next door neighbour’s quarrel with his wife  or about one individual violating another individual’s right, but it was about a government’s systematic human right breaches of its own citizens or government sponsored (BBS’) violations against fellow citizens in making preparatory work for another near-genocide of another minority in their master plan for establishing a pure Sinhala Buddhists(?) only county.

The interviewer’s sarcastic approach, by letting Dr. Nonis tell everything he had prepared at home by his guess work about the possible questions he would face, also was not understood.  However Dr. Nonis was plainly screwed over by the BBC’s female interviewer. She stopped Dr. Nonis’ reiteration that the country is being developed astonishingly, by  saying “I am asking about human right violations in Sri Lanka”.  Dr. Nonis had nothing to offer other than repeating the learnt by heart things like rich culture, free elections, sovereignty, defeating terrorism and freedom of people to protest.

The same super diplomat was very much upset when the freedom to protest was exercised by some London based foreign Muslims in solidarity following the incident in Mahiyankanne.  The diplomat seemed to have approached the Sri Lanka Muslims Cultural Centre in Harrow also known as  “Harrow Mosque”  through his stooge.   Harrow Mosque could have educated him by simply highlighting how important the freedom of speech is in the European culture, which is far younger than Dr. Nonis’ so called 2500 old one, and Dr. Nonis to put up with possible future bigger protests in front of Sri Lankan High Commissions and Embassies in Europe and America if hatreds, bigotry and human rights violation against minorities continues in Sri Lanka and the government turns a blind eye.

At least Dr. Nonis could advise the Sri Lankan government about the British government’s definite move against Sri Lanka in the upcoming Geneva Human Right Council session in March 2014, the diplomatic manoeuvring of the developed world generally and their capability of doing things in necessity bypassing the international norms otherwise required in normal multilateral relationship.

Channel 4 journalist Cullam McCrae and a prominent Tamil intellectual from one of the Canadian universities have given evidence in a People’s Permanent Tribunals of the former judicial personals in Germany on the issue of alleged war crime and near-genocide claim. The American government is contemplating harsh action against the Sri Lankan government; the British government is seemingly lobbying for a similar stance in Geneva. This all makes a momentum gather against Sri Lanka. The year 2014 and onwards cannot be ignored if these prominent people, President, his brothers and diplomats, like Sri Lanka and its citizens of all kinds.

If our President wants to avoid any unpleasant consequences for his long dream of being a modern King (without a crown) with his constitutional and unconstitutional powers for the life time and save his dream (merely a day- dream) of making his son future President of Sri Lanka and our country a “wonder of Asia”, he should pause a while, think carefully, assess the international move realistically and put viable steps in action. The 21st century requires only right and meaningful diplomatic engagement locally, regionally and internationally. It’s as simple as that.

My question is why is the Muslim Congress headed by Rauff Hakeem still supporting this tyrant. Not only him take people like Fizer and the joker Azwar and so many others worship this Magodis and Company. Wake up Muslims.

            Thamara,

not only Hakeem, none of them the muslim leaders of today seem to fulfil their duties as promised to their community. See the matter that a poor teenage girl got beheaded was proved by all evidence, that her life could have saved easily if MINISTER OF JUSTICE, took her side stopping backlicking charactor he is used to be. People have not faith in any of those muslim leaders today. See that bull dog -Azwer reacts in parliament, every minute rise up against opposition, that character is very specific to the bugger… would never be exemplary to young muslims in the country. So, as one writer made it very clear, muslims in the world should fight more on their rights … even if they are reported to be poor ( I dont think that srilanken muslims are poor compared average rural people).

People should support the opposition parties rather than supporting these leaders to fat their pockets, that is the only way out to come of current situation.
As minister of justice, Hakeem could teach the rulers a lesson, but he seem to have failed to do so. His capacity as the minister of justice is limited if he honestly wanted to deliver but JUSTICE – HE HAS JUST BEEN AN ANOTHER SILLY MIINISTER TODAY.

          By Zacki Jabbar

The JVP says President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Ranil Wickremesinghe could live in Sri Lanka without power, but not the Rajapaksas.

New JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, addressing the Foreign Correspondents Association in Colombo on Monday evening, said that the “Rajapaksas were scared to be out of office due to the wrongs they have committed. So, they would do anything to perpetuate their rule. The repeal of the 17th Amendment which established the Independent Commissions and introduction of the 18th Amendment did away with the presidential term limit were all aimed at perpetuating their dictatorship.”

The powers that be, were even frightened of non political demonstrations.

Classic examples were the violent manner in which the protests held at Rathupaswella, Chilaw and Katunayake over socio economic issues, such as the demand for clean drinking water, affordable diesel and decent wages were quelled, he said.

Dissanayake said that the Rajapaksas were a creation of the media. “They are being projected as larger than life, but that is not so. The media is being bribed. A senior journalist was recently provided funds from the President’s Fund, to send his children for studies abroad.”

Commenting on the high crime rate that had gripped the country including attacks, abductions and killing of journalists since 2005, he noted that if the Police which he described as efficient, could not arrest the suspects, then it was obvious that the government was involved.

The JVP’s former leader and current Foreign Secretary of the party Somawansa Amerasinghe, described Parliament as illegitimate, since the people had never given the ruling UPFA a two thirds majority.

The illegal advantage the government had obtained in the legislature was being used to heap more burdens on the masses and also denied them their human and democratic rights, he pointed out.

Just remember – the President did not elect himself. He and his clan was elected “democratically” by a majority of guys who are sceaming their heads off like you now. You guys gave him a blank-check and now you are surprised and angry that he is taking you to the cleaners. Rather too late – don’t you think!

Now you guys don’t want to take the responsibility — what a bunch of pussies!

A vast, a very vast, majority of you guys cheered and celebrated him after the first election, even more so after the second, and overwhelmingly sucked-up to him as he constitutionally took the term-limit off — and that is after having challenged the previous President to reduce the term to 4 years, with two term limit.

Now that it is all coming to bite your you-know-what’s you don’t want to accept the responsibility and palm it off on lame excuses. Anney kalakanniyos!

Even the Americans did not have one from 2000 to 2008. The one they had was called George Bush.

He was last in his class.

He lied to the UN, the Americans and the World

He made a huge mess. A lot were killed.

The President’s dream of being a modern King of Sinhala only Sri Lanka comes from the basic Dictator’s principles called BCT(Bribe(Mahinda), Corruption (Basil)and Threat (Gota)). These three evils are in one place in a planet and the effect and the consequence to our country is “Worst Country of World”.

So long MAHINDA RAJAPAKSHE is your president, none of the qualities you mentioned above

“I Want My President To Be Honest, Articulate, And Smart” will restrict to your and my dreams.

So knowing the mere truth, to keep even any hopes on this man – pigs might fly.

He may be talented at opening various means and paving avenues of the revenues for crime friendly communities while causing common man falling much deeper than had been, but showing palatable as has been always. But very same folks would not stay that vulnerable to his or anyone else’s blatant lies for the rest of their lives. My wish is people in Western and Southern provinces will teach him a lesion in the upcoming PC elections, though chances are still emerging to get them deceived again, if UNHRC’s final decision would turn out to be even worst on the 28th March. Our peoples, specially the rural communities have been proved to be stupid. Not once, dozens of times they have done so.

    Mr Nisthar,

You are a traitor! Gota is getting a white van ready for you.

We all know the president is an idiot and his advisors and his diplomats are either his idiotic relatives or people, like Nonis, who think they are really clever but uneducated and educated sycophants. You, by stating the obvious publicly have earned the title “traitor”. Watch your back.

For our President to be Honest, Articulate and Smart he needs to have (I cannot write this word but it starts with B and ends with S and in between there is a A and two Ls)as he has brain washed the citizens of Sri Lanka with so much of communal hatred since he became the President.

You guys are expecting too much from a guy who struggled to get through his year 10, GCE O/L, exam. His two brothers, who are ruling the country alongside with him, struggled to get through the same year 10 exam. I am not saying all who were comfortable passing year 10 are smart either..
These three brothers show very low intellect, or IQ, but the elder brother, MR, has special kind of EQ (emotional Intelligence) which he used to manipulate SL majority (Guppies) superbly..

Methinks you expect too much from the suave and oily Dr Nonis. This much westernized oriental gentleman has abandoned his Hippocratic Oath for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to boost the stagnant fortunes of the family business. Clearly, the moolah from wheeling and dealing yields far more than administering to the sick and suffering. You must admit that in the innumerable interviews he has given, he conducted a splendid rearguard defence of the indefensible and his every performance has been a master class in deviation, digression and obfuscation. Don’t expect the lapsed doctor to give the President any advice – that is not in his brief. The accidental diplomat is charged only with parroting the governments denial full stop

    • 2

Nonis’s performance has lot to do his business promotion than cover up mission of current regime. He is not a learnt diplomat just medical doctor later turned to join President and the clan thinking his Mackwood Tea company’s future. If Govt thought that learnt guys could help, they could have appointed experienced personalities to such positions. Govt’s thinking clearly lacks vision.
Btw, if NONIS APPU worked as a Physician, he could ATLEAST help lot more patients than being a false mouth for highly corrupted govt of Rajapakshse.

We discuss about him being not smart, articulate or clean,

while COUNTRY’S HIGHER EDUCATION MINISTER -Supiri Boru Disanayake sees nothing wrong in Gota’s participation in election campaign of Gonmanpila (THE MAN NEARING TO ATTAIN NIRWANA).

They the state deploy forces and sees no wrong in that..
They kill people and see nothing wrong in that..
Tomorrow, they will get passed laws in favour of legal killings..
their response would be the same…

This is the ground reality of their administration.

        ———
Higher Education Minister SB Dissanayake says Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was not wrong in attending an election rally organized by JHU Western Provincial Council candidate Udaya Gamanpilla.

Addressing a media briefing today, Dissanayake said that Rajapaksa had attended the rally on an invitation extended by Gamanpilla and not on his own.

He noted that the rally was not something which was organized by the Defence Secretary, nor did he speak at the rally.

Gamanpilla had subsequently apologized for inviting Rajapaksa for the rally after the issue created controversy.

Election monitors said having the Defence Secretary on stage at an election rally violates election laws as the Defence Secretary is a public official. (Colombo Gazette)

    I agree with you Nisthar.

However, the second most important question is – do we have a viable alternative to this Mafiosi family.

The UNP have turned out to be gutless wonders. The JVP has lost relevance with their long term ill defined alliances. At present there is no Sri Lankan leader of substance that is brave enough (or foolish enough) to mount a challenge to the MR Clan.

Foreign military intervention is not going to happen no matter how much hopping mad Cameron will get. The only option, mounting an economic embargo, is more cruel to the people than what they endure now. I cannot see a way out of the present impasse. We are doomed.

        Amarasiri,

I fear the so called revolutions also. The Russian revolution has a chequered history, in fact authoritarian rule of any sort always works against the people. See what Polpot did to millions of his own people. Given the penchant for extreme violence of our people and the culture of killing with impunity that authorities have come to accept as normal governance in Sri Lanka, I wonder what kind of sycophantic leader we will create under communist rule.

          BBS Rep,

Yes, if it is the Russian or the Pol Pot version, it is really going to be very pathetic.

I was thinking if it is possible to get an American or French type of Peoples Revolution, with the Separation of Church and State and a distributes power legislature like in the US, with checks and balances. However, our the checkered recent history is very problematic.

We have ‘qualifications’ specified for all the formal and informal roles that we are expected to play in (a) society. For each of these roles, the necessary qualifications are formally stated or institutionalized in more concrete ways; screening is conducted once ‘applications’ are made. Also provisions are available for any special circumstances that needs consideration outside what is already specified which requires adequate justification such special decisions. Not only that, regarding such applications we would actually make very serious scrutiny of applicants’ past conduct in relation to the position regarding which such application has been made. This practice holds true particularly for positions of leadership and responsibility in any institution.

If that is the case, the highest position of governance in the country been neglected in this regard is a huge surprise and a mismatch no!

It is only natural that loyal subjects will follow the gaze of a successful king. The people of Sri Lanka had long abandoned hope of any solution to the progressively evil turns of the LTTE. The LTTE may have been founded as an understandable response to the sufferings of the Tamils in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, but it should have been stopped in its tracks if the forces of law and order had been properly funded, and allowed to do their job at the time. Instead after 26 long years we were ready for a hero, and up stepped our President. Our people are nothing if not grateful for the peace that has been delivered. What we now see is their unstinting support in denying the inevitable accusations of sections of the international community goaded by the various Diaspora groups who need to assuage their guilt for abandoning the community and seeking safe havens far from home. Let’s face it; it was six-of-one and half-a-dozen of the other. The LTTE didn’t have a plan B and when they ran out of fighting men, women and children, as they surely were going to, it was game, set and match to the forces of the GOSL. Sadly, for the victorious President and his government, there was no credible post-war plan for reconciliation, and a pathetic diplomatic initiative that defaulted to defensive no sooner the accusations started to fly. I am afraid that Mr Nisthar is setting his sights far too high; the President and his government are too far entrenched in a quagmire of their making to ‘do the right thing’ even at this late stage. What we are seeing now is a lot of wriggling and shifting from one leg to another. The President’s best hope now is for his tormentors to be distracted by some other global catastrophe; or hope that our Mervyn can cut some lime and work his charms.

First worry about disharmony among your politicians before criticising MR. He is doing fine amidst barrage of international criticism, threats and local betrayals. Oh.. come on people do not waste your time with these uncorrectable urchins and leeches. They are hell bent on doing more and more death, destruction, loot, crimes of all kinds. What good they did for the country other than sowing hatred, war mongering, side lining minorities, disobeying powerful and helpful international countries and neighbors. How long can they go on doing this kind of stupid things and decimate the country and people ?
These donkeys of a ruling joker clan will continue with their destructive policies so long as they are in power. They know how to fool people, steal money and manipulate elections and democracy. These guys are the shame of Sri Lanka and the whole world is treating us as a pariah rowdy state. Poor Sri Lanka today is like a flower garland given to a bunch of monkeys. Ask the king to quit, retire from politics, realize, regret for doing all the sin, ask Buddha for forgiveness, go seek nirvana and he will be sure to get it on the spot since he is a devout true Buddhist. Good riddance and may god help this nation of suckers who still believe in these thugs in white robes. Never thought Lankans are sooo stuuuupid and idiotic. Whatever happened to those educated lots watching all these happenings ! Shame on you people for letting this going on unchecked. Look at Ukraine today. They do eat food, wear cloths and have feelings.

Mr Nisthar, you seems to be a nice man. Thank you for asking your President to be that and this. But are you really serious ? Never mind, but I will only ask our President to QUIT the Presidency, retire from active politics and seek NIRVANA which he likes so much as a devout and holy pure Buddhist unlike may others. Let us pray for his welfare and his change of mind.
Allah Karim, Sadu Sadu, May god bless Lanka and Mahinda! Happy now Mr. Nisthar ? I hope so -:)

Lanken president’s politics are similar to that of a cattle driver. Ministers are believed to be electroshocked by him directly… all inaugurations across the country have been carried out by MR himself… he is travelling to each place, not thnking about the costs.. at all.. main thing is to get people attracted to him…. if he could think about the costs… he could long relieve the poor in the country.. or not ? anyway winning the lost hearts of vulnerable masses by cuddling those poor people ‘s infants. Anyway, none of witch doctor’s ministers seem to be fulfilling their jobs. It is all because the man has forced them to be away from the ministries but just go on enjoying the perks.

We did not hear anything from that sacred/rhythmless pseudo monks of BBS lately, even at the time hundreds of kgs of HARD drugs were smuggled to the country, BBS was in their silent mode ? May be Ghanasara is made somewhat civilized by their masters ? Who actually offer alms to these idiots ?

We all know that our President is not honest or smart, may be not articulate in the English Language. So also was Chandrika Kumaratunge. So it is not new. He has been elected, so we are stuck with him. However I disagree with Mohamed Nisthar when he pays pooja to the international actors involved in Sri Lanka’s situation. The hypocrisy of the USA, Britain, Canada, and other “developed” nations, including their media, as evidenced by their conduct all over the world, belies their true intentions. The conflicts and wars initiated, funded, and armed by these countries resulting in the deaths of countless innocent people show their lack of commitment to human rights. So is not their actions intended to make Sri Lanka subordinate to their geo-political interests and not due to their concern for human rights? Some think that the Tamil diaspora are making use of international actors, but I think it is the other way around. We do need a change in the manner we are governed. But I do not foresee that change coming through the UN or any of the sanctimonious attitudes of the above countries or people like Nisthar. I do not think the West deserves the praise people shower on them. Whether we like it or not it is the people of this country, the Sinhala and the Tamil who have to work out how we are to live together. I cannot see the UN or any one else being of help in this cause. How we can do that is not difficult. It only requires a change in attitude by both Sinhala and Tamil, it needs trust, and it needs will. It can still be done.

According to you the international community comprised of Western neocolonialist whites and Eastern Indians. What about the majority rest? Do they think the same way or not?

    Mr Nisthar

You are a racist. Majority of Sinhalese are not racist but there can be some people who are. Can the minorities ever dictate to the majority.? The minorities in S.L. should learn to live peacefully with the majority. Do you think the majority are just going to accept what the tamil minorities and some people like you want? IN that the President also is powerless. After all in S.l. the minorities enjoy equal rights which is not available in some countries in what way they been deprived. YOu get Tamils and Muslims in top govt and provate establishment positions. So what more do they want? A separate part of the country for them selves ? That is not going to happen get real. OK assuming that is going to be given are all the Tamils and Muslims in the other parts of S.L. going to leave those parts and settle there? They wont do that . They want to have the cake and eat it too.

YOU are stupid to say that about Nonis he is a educated man and he knows what he is speaking about unlike you. Did Sri Lankaks enjoy human rights when the country was terrorised by the LTTE. Who spoke against them and where were you then? At least now people have the right and freedom to travle to any part of the country inlcuding you. People forget very quickly that is being ungrateful. Your comment on grease men is totally bias. There were so called grease men even in Colombo and some were even apprehended.

Every one know that the Channel 4 show was a fabricated one without any authenticity.

      Sam ,

“Did Sri Lankaks enjoy human rights when the country was terrorised by the LTTE. Who spoke against them and where were you then?”

were you born yesterday ? how many countries extended their help towards SL when LTTE was in full swing ? remember what extent they went all the way to help to get rid of terrorism , they were the best buddies of SL then ,now on the contrary , those very same countries turned around and start asking questions as to what happened , regime and its backers have no answers so start hiding behind the illusive sovereignty ! regime & its backers tend to think , that the rest of the world is dumb as them.

Are you blood related to that Azwer in lanken parliament ?

I really dont think that you have studied lanken matters closely to leave this kind of totally unacceptable comments. You dont need to support any parties just get the facts right and study them well before trying to make us fool on this platform.
Just because Nonis is a medical graduate, you think he knows what he is talking about ? What blatant lies he added to the press in the days of CHOGM circus in the country ?

You can just forget the HR violations in the days of civil war, but try to open eyes towards today’s HR violations – today- almost 5 years after the war is no longer there. Today women in general are attacked, even older women are being raped. Drug trafficking has become politicians’s key revenues. Let alone, where have been the reports in terms of that drug issue in which Premier was directly caught to have mediated importing them ? Why did it take that long them to clear ?

Whichever way the White man heads towards, the Tamail also go accordingly. Skin color alone would qualify D. Cameron as a better alternative right ?

I confronted Chris Nonis in London in issues regards to recent Akurana Mosque burning and Hikkaduwa Church attacks but he was so furious and full of filth left the place with his two bodyguards (why on earth he accompanies stooges along).
Then I sent a mail to him copied to the President (MaRA) for explanation and to this date I didn’t get a response or even an acknowledge note.
They have different agenda behind the closed doors!!!

Did we have any leader with these three qualities since independence ?

    Honest: None.
Articulate: Many. However, it was mostly hyperbole .
Smart: Every single one was street smart.

The differences between them in these qualities, was only I n degree and impact.

However, each one of them contributed their mite to take us where we are today.

      RN –
Democracy has passed its ‘Use by’ Date in ‘Developing’ Countries! We need ‘Green’ forward thinking Governments now, like the Kings of Yore who built ‘Vevas’ and ‘Elas’ to help the Farmers who are the Lifeblood of our Nation.

As it is, our so-called Liberal and Labour parties are trying to Ape the West and attract Tourist dollars, who have better facilities anyway, in their Home Countries.

The present Government which is supposed to represent the People, all of them, not just the majority, is not looking after the Locals at all.

They are using Tourist Dollars to build Tourist attractions without a thought for the welfare of the local population.

        Rationalist,

I do not think democracy has passed its expiry date in countries like ours. However, unfortunately the men and women who are elected in our democracy and give it shape do not meet the qualifications to do so. They are megalomaniacs and dictators at best. We have to make the right choices and then demand quality performance. The fault lies with us and not democracy. Democracy is a social contract that has to be practiced with wisdom and foresight by the electors and the elected. We elect persons who promise to play God and end up being veritable devils that haunt us.

Such men offer us tinsel in exchange for looted gold, little realising that despite all our failings we know the difference. There-in is the seed for their downfall.

    Mohomad Nisthat.

    Talk something you know.

I have heard american diplomats and senators while talking say that Sri Lanka is the oldest democracy in that region.

Remember, 2500 years ago, Sri Lanka had rights even to birds flying over the country.

What does your religion ISLAM has for others even though it says it is for PEACE ?

What kind of rights other believers have when muslims are the majority.

Why are these biased references personally to the writer, Islam and Muslims. What is being conveyed in the article are one’s views in the context of the ‘negative politics’ in Sri Lanka. Is it not better to deal on the subject as it is and not to divert elsewhere because of one’s biased mind?

As they promised to be ‘Honest, Articulate, And Smart’ while entering politics and seeking Govt. power, none of those who took power since independance lived and are living to such promises. Such betrayal continues causing immemse problems both locally and internationally to the people and the country. Sel-seeking and keeping power at any cost being the motives of such men they set in motion a ‘political culture of impunity’ which has taken strong roots in every sphere and corner of the country. If the people really need a change for their better living their thinking should be directed to finding ways and means of ending this negatiave political culture. Any expectation from or advice to those who are furthering that culture is a waste of time. Prudent ‘peoples action’ is the need of the time. Still the article requires appreciation for provoking a new line of thinking.

Why cannot the President seek the advice of Tony Blair for a change to seek a way out of the problems. The great Tony adviced News International Editor Rebakah Brooks on the phone-hacking scandal to ‘KEEP STRONG AND DEFINITELY SLEEPING PILLS. NEED TO HVE CLEAR HEADS AND REMEMBER NO RASH SHORT-TERM SOLUTIONS AS THEY ONLY GIVE YOU LONG-TERM HEADACHES’. Can we also forget that it is on his advice that President George Bush took decisions on Iraq. Of course Rebakah Brooks was arrested the next day and George Bush ended-up disgraced. but our Tony continues as advisor to many. In the alternative will one’s own rational thinking would be much better and safe, will it not.

Muslms always think as they are muslims.

I haven’t seen honest muslims. their smartness is always to propagate their peaceful – religion un-peaceful methods.

such a muslim come and preach to a non-believer.

Not surprised of the views of a ‘non-believer’ who lives in isolation as the mindset is not to believe others and, as such does not know the honesty of the Muslims. The philosophy of a ‘non-believer’ is such he always lives in confusion a on everything asking the only questions ‘Why, what and when’ from others but not attempting to seek the answers himself. Generally the ‘non-believing philosophy’ does not contribute anything constructive for the betterment of humanity but creates a confused society.
