IGP Pujith Says Sirisena Tried To Bribe Him With Ambassadorial Post In Return For Absorbing Easter Attacks Blame

Continuing to reveal damning information about Sirisena’s petty agendas before and after Easter attacks, suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundara says Sirisena promised him an Ambassadorial post and a ‘cleared’ name if he absorbed blame for the bombings.

Pujith, whose testimony before the Parliamentary Select Committee ended a short while ago, made the most shocking revelations about Sirisena towards the end of his statement.

The suspended IGP told MPs of the PSC that Sirisena offered him an Ambassadorial position if he was prepared to accept blame for Easter Sunday attacks and resign. Responding to follow up questions by the MPs he also added Sirisena assured the inquiry board would ‘clear’ his name if Pujith was prepared to accept the suggested move.

“I have never wanted any such positions and in my long career I have never been accused of misconduct,” Pujith said.

Pujith’s testimony today proves the Committee appointed by Sirisena to probe and declare parties responsible for Easter attacks will not have any credibility, as its clear Sirisena may have made undue interferences by wanting to clear names of others as well. The report of the presidential committee was due to be handed in within two weeks of the bombings and the report was to be made public. So far it has not been submitted – except for an interim version – and the full report is to be submitted by June 10.

This article is a reflection of the testimony of the IGP, now sent on compulsory leave. He mentioned the name of the official who was conducting the inquiry. Alas! that name is not mentioned. Isn’t he an Additional Secretary of the Defense Ministry? Now these public servants are appointed by the so called independent Public Service Commission. However, they are servile to the powers that may be. Why? So they know how to twist facts either to find a man guilty or not guilty. Pretty serious, isn’t it? I may not be in agreement with Pujith on every matter but he too deserves justice. The allegation made under oath must be investigated and that official must be placed on compulsory leave, which can be done by the PSC, until this matter is cleared, just as much as Pujith is.
