“It Wasn’t Me” – Ranawaka

Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister Champika Ranawaka has called for an impartial police investigation over an accident at Rajagiriya that injured two youth on Sunday.

Champika RanawakaThe minister’s call came amidst claims by certain factions that it was Ranawaka who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The accident left one person critically injured. However, Ranawaka said that following the incident, the driver of the vehicle, who is an employee at the ministry had surrendered himself to the police. He added that several news media had reported the incident by distorting the facts.

“We are confident that the police will conduct an impartial investigation over the incident,” he said. The vehicle which was involved in the accident belongs to Ranawaka’s ministry.

This is what happens when a born bullock cart man drives a modern vehicle.

He said once that his son will go further than him as the world is fast changing.

Chapika’s accident case is test case for the police investigative mechanism and the judiciary. Let us wait and see how fair and independent they are in their functioning.

      Ben Huling

      Where are you?

The country, the police, the people need you.

Are you napping while on guard duty?

I think you should prepare yourself to deal with KASmalam K A Sumanasekere. He is going to have a field day.

Politicians and their CULTURE OF CORRUPTION, IMPUNITY and IMMUNITY epitomised in their massive blackened cars and need for SPEED are the greatest perpetrators of VIOLENCE in Sri Lanka – past and present.

Politicians should be banned from owning and driving SUVs and covering their windows with Black masking materials.

Politicians per capita are responsible for the highest number of car crashes, but now Pathala Champika is blaming youth for riding motorbikes!

What an royal ass this MEGA CITY MEGA EGO wanna be Sinhala Buddhist Emperor of SL is!His mega city proposal does not have single decent plan for public transport.

This political CAR CULTURE must end. Politicians per capita the biggest percentage of rad accident perpetrators.

Politicians with MEGA EGOS like Pathala need to be taken off the roads. We always knew that Pathala was UN-Buddhist and had a MEGA EGO, which is why he wants MEGA CITY projects to boost his image and profile.

MEGA development projects which need massive amounts of concrete today are quite out of fashion and considered Not friendly either to people and the environment.

Lanka today desperately needs people friendly development and public transport and an end to the culture of impunity and immunity for corrupt and criminal politicians.

“Hon C R is a person who talks the truth always.”

He is a politician first and a human last.

He also believes his ancestors discovered zero and Sinhala language is much older than Hebrew.

“Media gentlemen should report only genuine facts as we saw some reports which are completely misleading.”

They can report only after first being registered, of course..!

Otherwise they, and what news they publish will be Unlawful as per Yahapalanaya

I hope CT has registered itself as a “lawful” site… I don’t want to be dealing with Outlaws as my Glorious Yahapalanaya says it is Very Bad

The two friends of the victims chased after the car and stopped it. They reported that it was driven by Ranawaka.

Hopefully they will be key witnesses in the case, unless they are somehow stopped from testifying or something happens to them.

“Consciousness”– may be. Conscience — I doubt. That is a luxury that our political tribe can ill afford.

    Dankottuwa Manike,

First I thought you were referring to one of Rajapakse brothers who are born
    Bullock Cart men.

Later I understood you’re referring to Champika Ranawaka.

So you have seen the accident and going to be an eye witness that Champika was running the vehicle.

Was CR in the car at the time? Where was he?
If he was there he about is as culpable as the “driver”.

Inquiries rarely reveal the truth, especially when the truth affects those who hold the wheels of power.

    Poor fella.

He is still getting the hang of his Colombo 7 Truck, to drive on the Sky Roads of Batalanda’s Megapolis.

    Or is it Maithri Sira’s!!!

BTW why did the victim drive a 1000 CC machine on Yahaplana Roads…

It is interesting to note that he has not denied the fact that he was the driver. Let us watch the space unless the two witnesses meet with a fatal accident.

He is going on about the motor cycle which should not have been on the. Road.

The megapolis is a very ambitious project. We can all see the visions of a. Sinpapore superimposed on. Sri lanka. How many houses will have to be demolished for this project. Where will we get the mega funding from. ???

Poor Abithaya is going to be arrested, says the State Minister of International Trade.

    Bit confusing isn’t it?..

What has the State Minister for IT got to do with it, when the Yahapalana Police comes directly under PM, Batalanada Ranil.

Secondly, what bloody International Trade for a State Minister?.

Unless he is in charge of exporting Aerecanuts to Indians and importing Bombay Onions and dried Bombay ducks for the Dalits..

CR would have been driving the vehicle alone without anyof his bodyguards, out on some private visit. Soon after the incident, CR supposedly tried to break free and drive away fearing the worst. But those buys were all friends riding their bikes in a group. A few immediately gave chase in their high capacity bikes and surrounded CR’s vehicle and were going to assault him, when he identified himself as Minister CR. They claim that he was in the driving seat. After identifying himself, he asked the boys to come to the Rajagiriya police station to settle matters. They became reluctant since the accident involved a Minister and they knew perfectly well what side the police will take. They were also to be faulted for riding high capacity bikes, 1000 cc and realized that it was they who could get locked up for riding illegal bikes. It was the parents of the injured who ultimately made the police complaints, but again they allege that they were forced to sign the recorded entry without it being read back to them. Thus they were not made aware of what they were signing as their entry. The police are scared of receiving transfers if they don’t tow the line of their political paymasters. Now it has taken a new dimension with a driver being introduced, whose driving licence has been suspended. He surrendered to the police claiming he was the driver, and was bailed out instantly even before the Medical Officers report was out on the victims injuries.

The only outcome of this will be that will go down as another case of police injustice and Minister CR will still rule the roost, whilst those young lives of the affected were nearly snuffed out in an instant. As it is, prospects of a full recovery don’t look too good for one due to brain injury, whilst the other has broken arms and rib fracture.

    Rappoteur.

    Your line…..

CR would have been driving the vehicle without any of his bodyguards, out on some private visit…

Aha! Alice in Wonderland would say this is getting curiouser and curiouser.
Sherlock Holmes that famous detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle would have taken your line to initiate the probe!
Mind you the Time was around 10pm and Rajagiriya was not anywhere close to his Ministerial abode!

I tell you Plato, there are many unanswered questions begging for clarification. Some are already too late now to investigate, since it should have been done at that time by the Police. Was the Minister sober enough to drive at the time of the accident? What would be his own reason to be out on the road without personal bodyguards? Wonder if his alibi could be corroborated just to ascertain his honesty and real motives. Was this a routine escapade or a one off rendezvous? Wonder how his party nemesis Gamman pillai will exploit this breach. CR is usually considered a no nonsense, fairly politically correct man. When something like this happens, it will either show his true grit in character to face upto it with his head held up high, or show his dark side by trying to escape from it by piling on the lies and behaving aggressively to deflect all responsibility.

“CR is usually considered a no nonsense, fairly politically correct man.” -Rappoteur

        Considered so by whom?

“Politically correct” is not at all a complimentary term now. It refers to one who says something which is generally appealing– but not necessarily honest or good.

His “no nonsense” approach was seen in his being a loyal yes-man for MR until he read the writing on the wall.

He may be uncompromising on a few matters, but not always things to be proud of.

it was his grandma.Taking the fact that she was more than 90 years old she should not have been at the wheel in the first place even though she was dying to try out this new pajero. Ultimately grandson had to relent and let her have her day of fun.He quickly changed seats and took the rap for her.A true son of the soil who is willng to sacrifice himself for his family members.hence he is not uttering a untruth when he says it was not him. A sinha le lion indeed.

I like the part where the ‘eye witness’ says the man stepped out wearing sunglasses (at 1045 at night) and then he had to ask for ID to verify the man (although he should be easily recognizable especially by his height) after the man removed his sunglasses at night.

Either it is whole loads of ignorance on display here, or the accident was caused due to the wearing of sunglasses
    At night.

Champaka is capable of lying. Just Google his infamous speech made to a gullible lot in France. There was also a good write up by Shyamon Jayasinghe in CT refuting some flamboyantly fanciful claims made by Champika. Also remember for a long time he was a close associate of the MARA Mafia. This fellow is a bit of a low class crass fellow.

However it is in the hand of the police to expose the truth, whatever the truth may be.

CR is not at all clean unlike his attire and hides himself under the garb of Buddhist principles and nationalism and the present Yahapalanya.
During the 2010 election campaign CR used the state agencies under him when he was in charge to fund his election campaign under the slogan “protection of the environment”.These same past Heads of these institutions now hold various posts under his present Mega Polis Ministry and he together with these misfits do not know next to nothing of integrated and sustainable planning of Mega Cities. An incompetent roommate of CR is now Head of a Statutory Board and this guy is protecting his officials who were notorious to make money.
If the Government is sincere and keep to the promise of cleaning the society of bribery , nepotism , corruption etc and come clean , an impartial inquiry should be held and find out whether CR is guilty or not.
Just because this guy who is all powerful now and supported MS at his election, it does not lead to his being given a clean slate to do anything he likes and get away.
We all remember how CR criticized the PM during the last Parliamentary elections and he is so thick skinned now to work under his direction. CR also has his followers who are administrative and political dregs known to change colours like the Katussas and Bodilimas!! God save Sri Lanka from such misfits in politics or in the various professions who say never die and who should be at home without dragging this country to disaster and ruin!!!
