Controversial politician and one time loyalist of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sajin de Vass Gunawardena has denied any involvement in any of the alleged corrupt dealings of Rajapaksa and family.

Speaking to the media in Colombo, Gunawardena said that he will not be a witness in any legal case because he had no involvement in any of the alleged dealings during the Rajapaksa regime. “How would I know anything about them, when I was not involved in any of these dealings. Investigations are being carried out, so have patience, in due time people will get to know who were behind these deals. I don’t need to be a witness because I was not involved in them,” he said.
He also went on to add that if the accusations leveled by some politicians were true about him acquiring his wealth in an unscrupulous manner, then he would be behind bars by now. “I have submitted all my asset details and my accounts and how I earned my money to the relevant authorities. Everything is transparent. Everyone thinks I got money by stealing, but that is not true. If I had not submitted these information by now, then I would be in jail by now,” he added.
Gunawardena also said that his loyalty was for the SLFP and not for any individual, and hence will continue to work for the betterment of the party under the current leader of the party who is Maithripala Sirisena.
He also alleged that a certain Rajapaksa was victimizing him. “It’s not Mahinda Rajapaksa, but another Rajapaksa. This person is using about 12 websites to sling mud against me,” he said while refusing to name which Rajapaksa it was.
“Because I have not been involved in any corrupt dealings during the previous regime, I can stand straight. I only carried out my duties as a coordinator and as an MP, but I didn’t go beyond that,” he added.
He said that he was not afraid of any investigation because he had nothing to hide. “If anyone wants to investigate, they should. They will eventually find out that I was not involved in anything shade. I am not scared, I should be scared only if i did something wrong, and I have not done anything wrong,” he claimed.

If Sajin Vas Gunawardane is NOT a Witness in any of the cases investigated as claimed by him, the PEOPLES” question to the Mr. President is: Why have you given him security from the PSD with “back up” vehicles just because he said that his life is under threat. Earlier, Sajin claimed that there was a threat to his life, because he agreed to be a “State Witness” in future investigations and the Government immediately gave him “protection” from the PSD. Now with this declaration by Sajin, why don’t you WITHDRAW that “Security Contingent” immediately? He is on bail and let him be that way and defend himself. In giving protection to this “accused”, mind you not a “witness”; Mr. President, you too are suspected of some underhand deal with this corrupt and dirty politician. This “association” and “protection” given at the expense of the PEOPLE will have to be EXPLAINED and ACCOUNTED for in your own terms of Yahapalanaya that you promised to the civil society on January 8th 2015. The Rs. millions from the Lankaputhra bank did not bail out Mihin Lanka because the money never went to Mihin Lanka. The money went to Sajin’s pocket.
