In a show of solidarity, the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) joined hands with the students’ union of the University of Jaffna to condemn the police killings of the two students in Jaffna.
The students of the Jaffna University launched a protest against the shooting outside the Jaffa District Secretariat today.
Meanwhile, several Tamil parties will launch a hartal in the North tomorrow against the killings, and demanding justice. TNA. TELO, PLOTE, EPRLF, TULK and ACMC will organise the hartal.
The two victims were third year students at the Arts Faculty of the Jaffna University. They were returning home on a motorcycle, early in the morning last week after a party and when the police had ordered them to stop, they however had not stopped. The police had then opened fire which resulted in the two boys being killed. The postmortem report disclosed that the rider of the motorcycle had died from a bullet lodged in his body following the shooting.

The Ethnic riots of 1983 began at Peradeniya University in the first week of July 1983, when Tamil lectureres and students were attacked by JVP and Sinhala nationalist youth.
The Sinhala nationalist youth in the universities are the worst racists, they hate English speaking students and Tamils, so the question remains as to how long this solidarity will last?!
JVP needs to accept that English is the best path for students to grow and compete in a global knowledge enterprise that is in an international Language of English.
Remaining Sinhala frogs in the Sinhala Nationalist hell will get them nowhere!

RE: IUSF Joins Hands With Jaffna Students’ Union To Protest Against Students Killing; Tamil Parties Organise Hartal
This is thew way it should be.
Lethargy and indifference by the state should be pointed out by the people, and exposed. Expose, expose and expose.
Now they need to get support from the South as well from all universities, regarding Police Excesses, and the indifference of Yahapalanaya, and the actions of Gon Sirisena Gamarala, the Traitor, going to the extent of protecting criminals, including own criminal son Gon Daham.
Well;come to the Land of Native Veddah Aethho, occupied by the Paras and Traitors to good governance.

so where is the equally outrage, and articles, and hartal for this incident.
AAVA claims responsibility for sword attack on Jaffna Policemen.
We can accuse the police for Bad policing which has happened not just in jaffna but other places in Sl, But the above gangsters what excuse is that? and where is the outrage?

I have a BIL who too like a frog in well even though he’s a university graduate.
Even when the village children from related families were sent to Colombo schools to learn in English medium this man with the JVP mentality used to laugh at the students, asks why do you have to study in English instead of Singlish.
This man can speak English fluently but still was putting down the children for learning English.
These are the products of the 60s ,70s and the 80s.
These are the JVPers destroyed the country’ s education after. SWRD..
Now JVP is behaving as though they’re born again savers of SL.
Bloody Humbug. IUSF joining hands with JAFFNA UNI STUDENTS is commendable.
This kind of atrocity by the security services should not be allowed , hope there will be mass protests by the whole COMMUNITY NOT JUST THE TAMIL COMMUNITY.
If this the turning point for our beloved SL. all should hold hands to show the solidarity for these BOYS.
LEAVE RACISM A SIDE AND UNITE WITH A PURPOSE , THE PURPOSE OF GETTING THE COUNTRY BACK IN ORDER AGAINST THESE BARBARIC BEHAVIOURS OF THE SECURITY.

Are university students, whoever they may be, supposed to protest before full facts are known. Was any one witness to,what happened? Isn’t education, especially university education, supposed to develop an inquiring mind? What are the facts that these university students know that I and many of us yet do not know? Are the unfortunate students who died, the new cat’s paw of politicized students with an obvious agenda? They are like flies that rush to a carcass to feed and lay eggs, which will hatch out maggots!
Mahatma Gandhi is supposed to have said that if a society is unjust all the good people must be in Jaill. These words are etched in stone at the Berkeley campus of the University of California. Will our university srudents lead campaigns against all the injustices in our society and court arrest? Why do they pick and choose issues to aggravate communal issues, in a highly partisan manner? Are they aspiring to be the next generation of political scum? Should they not do their utmost to heal the wounds our society has sustained-the Tamils quantitatively and qualitatively more, than to aggravate them with ulterior political motives.
Let them protest peacefully against the corruption, brutality, lies and high handedness of the police island-wide. This will help this country as a whole and the students will become our heros.

Two students have been killed.
Do you want the protests to wait until there is a court ruling?

No protest, No pressure, No investigation, No truth, No justice, …. this would become another cold case. In between the state and the government would spin beyond their sanity.
Had this happened under Siri Mao’s watch would you still have supported a protest?

Dinuk, you are 100% correct. In peradeniye arts faculty students and students from country side who can’t speak a single word correctly in English are the worst resists. The main course for that is studying in Sinhala and Tamil and all-over sudden ask them to switch to English – modias have no planning at all. Stupid politicians introduced own language education and ruined the country. They really hate opposite language students and English speaking students – predominantly Royal collage students. Best way forward is to revert back to English.

Yes, The Sinhalese Have Their Origins In Bengal, Odish, and they are Paras, like the Tamils and others from India.
The Indian National Flag has the Asoka Wheel for Justice, inspired by the Pristine Buddhism.
The Sri Lanka National Flag has a Lion with a sword, to kill (Tamils, others?) inspired by the Para-Sinhala “Buddhism”.

Amarasiri,
It is a castrated lion & the front paws have four digits, not five.
The thumb, which apposes with the other four digits and thus allows grip ( apposition – the most important function in mammals ) is missing.
Hence the sword is in a very unstable grip.

Police demand family of slain Tamil undergraduates not to seek justice – From Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka (JDS)
“A group of police officers visiting Sulakshan’s father Sinnathurai Wijayakumar in Jaffna and Gajan’s mother Nadarasa Sarojini in Kilinochchi on Sunday (23) have offered money and jobs for any unemployed in the family in exchange for dropping the case. LNo one will benefit from dragging the case further,” the police officers have told the grieving parents.
Sinnathurai Wijayakumar is in deep shock as he lost his second while still searching for his elder son who has disappeared. The father told JDS that he informed the police officers what he only needs is justice for his sons who are no more with him. “What can I do with money when the police shot my son to death like an animal?” he questioned.
Gajan’s mother also told JDS that she is seeking justice for her slain son, instead of cash or other benefit. “My son raised funds for his university education by doing manual labour. When such a child is killed I don’t want any other return except justice,” she said.

Dinuk,
What the point you insisted is correct. The youth who can not or dont wish to study in English had the moral to attack Tamils, because Tamils are very much inteligent than the sinhala students. Sinhalese are always far below than Tamils in wisdom, even nowadays also. In the early days of sl universities, Tamils were dominating. The z score system only brought sinhalese into education line. Unless they will be still pulling bullock carts. Other than the numbers Sinhalese are always below the Tamils in every aspects.

Shamil,
Intelligence is not a racial characteristic. No race is “more” intelligent than another.
Tamils knew that the future belonged to those who could read, write, and speak English, and that it would ensure government jobs, from very early days. Government jobs with the much coveted ‘pension’ on retirement were highly prized by Tamils who learned English from childhood to attain this.
Before independence, most Tamils learned English and got government jobs – from the British who governed Ceylon.
British did not ‘favour’ them, specially.

Now that the Army is locked up in their Barracks, the inhabitants have no option other than o pay up.according to my friend.
Post Nanthikadal Gen X in Jaffna do not want to work.. He says.. They all are waiting to seek asylum in the West.
So they have to make a living while waiting , he says, because all of them do not receive santhosams from the Diaspora through Western Union.

This news item was published in Daily News, titled “THE SAGA OF MOTORCYCLE GANGS.”
You missed crucial part of the article which stated:
““We have to take various factors into consideration. We have reasons to believe that some members of the groups have strong links with the underworld in Colombo. Some of the gangsters who were arrested by Police previously had links with various people in Colombo. Therefore, we have to investigate whether they operate as a criminal network,” he added.”
