Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared today that even if the government jailed him and his entire family, he will continue to fight for the rights of the people.
“If they think they can intimidate me and get me out of politics by arresting my children, then they are mistaken. Even if they jail my entire family, and me, we will continue our fight for the people. We won’t give up and no one can stop us,” Rajapaksa declared while addressing a large gathering at the joint opposition rally held in Hyde Park, Colombo this evening.
Rajapaksa went on to say that at the time he gave over the country to the new administration after his nine year rule, he had made it among the strongest in Asia, only second to China. “Today see the state our country is in. They give excuses saying I took loans, but for all the loans I took I ensured that development took place,” Rajapaksa noted.
Listing out the loans he took during his tenure as President, Rajapaksa said, “I took a US $ 190 million loan for the Mattala Airport, which was done, I took US $ 426 million for the Hambantota Port, which was also done. I took US $ 1340 million for the Norochcholai coal power plant and that was done. Then I took US $ 630 million for the Colombo – Matara expressway and US $ 248 million for the Colombo – Katunayake expressway and those were completed too.”
While emphasizing that he had taken the above amount as loans over a period of nine years, he accused the current administration of obtaining loans to the tune of a staggering US $ 6361 million in just one year. “How the record?,” he asked, while demanding the government to show the people even a single canal they may have built from these loans.
“They say I took loans, and that I hid it. You try to go to a shop and ask for a loan and see if they will give you a loan without recording it?,” he told the mass gathering at the rally.
“I don’t understand what the big problem is, if I took loans on the sly and there is no record, then they don’t even have to pay it back, so why are they screaming about it if there is no record of such transactions, which means then they don’t have to pay it back,” he declared amidst loud cheering. Now the ball is in the courts of the Government. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance must now give us the correct “Financial Position” of the country. If the Government cannot compile the figures correctly to assess the “Foreign Debt” amounts secured as loans and how much is needed to service that loan quantum (installments plus the interest) what is the purpose in merely directing accusations at those who ran the previous administration? Now, we would like to ask the present Government; have you done a forensic audit on the financial status of the country within this period and if so give the “actual figures” to the country. MR specifies the specific loans taken for various projects and how much was spent on each of those undertakings. Mr. PM and FM: Do you dispute those figures spent on each of those projects and have you undertaken a good audit before spelling out those accusations?
Now the country needs you (PM & FM) to explain matters and give us an opportunity to assess the “TRUTH” from “FALSEHOOD”. Now that MR has publicly made a rebuttal on you accusations, please, without any delay, tell the country the TRUTH.

How much were spent and were there any savings? If not did the “Expenditure” go above the “estimates” and by how much? This type of “break down” must be “Obtainable” and those who were responsible must be made to answer. The people who were responsible for these projects MUST submit the details to the Government. For example: (1) The Road Development Authority (RDA) Chairman for all those road development projects. (2) The Port Authority Chairman must furnish the details that the PEOPLE want to know. In like manner the moneys obtained as loans and the expenditures must be furnished by those officials who handled those mentioned projects. We know both officials mentioned in (1) & (2) were under “investigation”; but NOTHING has come out so far.
In the absence of “comprehensive” and “analytical” statements by the Government; this “MR Faction” will direct a lethal attack on the Government; because (1) They have to “ESCAPE” the responsibility by “Rallying” the masses and hoodwink them (2) “Escape” from the allegations STILL PENDING in Courts filed by the FCID and that too “challenging” the legality of the very investigative machinery. If this “MONSTER” bids a come back, it is no body else to be blamed other than this Government headed by RW & MS. What is the response? We WANT TO KNOW SOON.

None of the 6.2 million that voted against MR will ever vote for him again, no matter there being shortcomings in the Yahapalanaya govt. RW nor Sirisena are robbing the country as the Rajapaksa family did flouting the Laws of the land. Further from the number 5.7 million that voted for MR, there will be a sizable number not voting MR again after the exposure of MR for having murdered innocents and robbed this country. It is only the MR sycophants who believe that MR can make a come back to save their own skin. The crowd numbering a couple of lakhs of people at the Joint Opposition Rally at Hyde Park can not change the above equation. MR’s fate is sealed, only wait for the Judgements.

This man MR to have guts to make the kind of statements in public are all a joke to my eye. Either the man is brain sick or fully Sumanadas Style personality. Sumanadasa knew nothign but to talk around the bush. That held Rajaapkshe on the cheating mode not allowing him to see it beyond.
In the same manner, from knoweldge on, no better to Buruwanse. He has been to many countries but seem to have learnt nothing from others. It is all because of the nature of MR.

Please read this news item with Dayan Jayathileka’s article. Both are eye openers for CT comment screamers! You guys could write tons of negative comments under pseudo Sinhala names but this ex-president Rajapaksa is a real politiko of incredible tactics. If he had been born in the US he could have easily become democratic Presidential candidate and beat Hilary. He knows how to face the defeat like a winner and how to convince so-called winners that their win was tantamount to a defeat. Let’s take just few points and analyse them impartially:
1. He held P/Election in 2014, 2 years prior to the official end of his tenure. This paved the way for him to avoid a disastrous UNCHR inquiry and terrible country situation which would have haunted and annihilated him if he had been in power.
2. He lost as he expected and he wished it; then he took the opportunity to leave office like a gentleman reminding us of the departure of Dudley. (Floating voters really liked the way he did it).
3.Then he proved he was like a defeated US president enjoying his country life. (All coup stories concocted by Ranil’s so called political ‘strategists’ and actor-politikkos fell on deaf ears; many Sri Lankans voted for them during the 2 elections but now we know they acted like in movies and the gullible voter took them for real).
3. He handed over the chairmanship to MyThree and My3 swallowed the hook even without a bait. He is now struggling and people around him feel his sorry situation day and night. TC reported his son’s foolhardy behavior at R/T match a few days ago. TC editors used (hitherto unheard) Fxxk word (by an editorial board) to describe his behavior and also justified the ‘use of this word’ vehemently.
4. You guys take the liberty to fill the rest instead of attacking each other.

Obviously there were scores of things that happened for the last 14 months but Mahinda Rajapaksa used almost every incident to score a quick run or a sixer.
The most recent is yesterday’s Hyde Park rally: Among a few interesting points he (Mahinda Rajapaksa) said “I don’t understand what the big problem is, if I took loans on the sly and there is no record, then they (Ranil-My3 duo) don’t even have to pay it back, so why are they screaming about it if there is no record of such transactions, which means then they don’t have to pay it back,” he declared amidst loud cheering.
