Joe Biden’s Victory Speech: Full Transcript

My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken.

They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory.

A victory for “We the People.”

We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation — 74 million.

I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.

I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify.

Who doesn’t see red and blue states, but a United States.

And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of the whole people.

For that is what America is about: the people.

And that is what our administration will be about.

I sought this office to restore the soul of America.

To make America respected around the world again and to unite us here at home.

It is the honor of my lifetime that so many millions of Americans have voted for this vision.

And now the work of making this vision real is the task of our time.

As I said many times before, I’m Jill’s husband.

I would not be here without the love and tireless support of Jill, Hunter, Ashley, all of our grandchildren and their spouses, and all our family.

They are my heart.

Jill’s a mom — a military mom — and an educator.

She has dedicated her life to education, but teaching isn’t just what she does — it’s who she is. For America’s educators, this is a great day: You’re going to have one of your own in the White House, and Jill is going to make a great first lady.

And I will be honored to be serving with a fantastic vice president — Kamala Harris — who will make history as the first woman, first Black woman, first woman of South Asian descent, and first daughter of immigrants ever elected to national office in this country.

It’s long overdue, and we’re reminded tonight of all those who fought so hard for so many years to make this happen. But once again, America has bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice.

Kamala, Doug — like it or not — you’re family. You’ve become honorary Bidens and there’s no way out.

To all those who volunteered, worked the polls in the middle of this pandemic, local election officials — you deserve a special thanks from this nation.

To my campaign team, and all the volunteers, to all those who gave so much of themselves to make this moment possible, I owe you everything.

And to all those who supported us: I am proud of the campaign we built and ran. I am proud of the coalition we put together, the broadest and most diverse in history.

Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

Progressives, moderates and conservatives.

Young and old.

Urban, suburban and rural.

Gay, straight, transgender.

White. Latino. Asian. Native American.

And especially for those moments when this campaign was at its lowest — the African-American community stood up again for me. They always have my back, and I’ll have yours.

I said from the outset I wanted a campaign that represented America, and I think we did that. Now that’s what I want the administration to look like.

And to those who voted for President Trump, I understand your disappointment tonight.

I’ve lost a couple of elections myself.

But now, let’s give each other a chance.

It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric.

To lower the temperature.

To see each other again.

To listen to each other again.

To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies. We are Americans.

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season — a time to build, a time to reap, a time to sow. And a time to heal.

This is the time to heal in America.

Now that the campaign is over — what is the people’s will? What is our mandate?

I believe it is this: Americans have called on us to marshal the forces of decency and the forces of fairness. To marshal the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time.

The battle to control the virus.

The battle to build prosperity.

The battle to secure your family’s health care.

The battle to achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism in this country.

The battle to save the climate.

The battle to restore decency, defend democracy, and give everybody in this country a fair shot.

Our work begins with getting Covid under control.

We cannot repair the economy, restore our vitality, or relish life’s most precious moments — hugging a grandchild, birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us — until we get this virus under control.

On Monday, I will name a group of leading scientists and experts as transition advisers to help take the Biden-Harris Covid plan and convert it into an action blueprint that starts on Jan. 20, 2021.

That plan will be built on a bedrock of science. It will be constructed out of compassion, empathy, and concern.

I will spare no effort — or commitment — to turn this pandemic around.

I ran as a proud Democrat. I will now be an American president. I will work as hard for those who didn’t vote for me — as those who did.

Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end — here and now.

The refusal of Democrats and Republicans to cooperate with one another is not due to some mysterious force beyond our control.

It’s a decision. It’s a choice we make.

And if we can decide not to cooperate, then we can decide to cooperate. And I believe that this is part of the mandate from the American people. They want us to cooperate.

That’s the choice I’ll make. And I call on the Congress — Democrats and Republicans alike — to make that choice with me.

The American story is about the slow, yet steady widening of opportunity.

Make no mistake: Too many dreams have been deferred for too long.

We must make the promise of the country real for everybody — no matter their race, their ethnicity, their faith, their identity, or their disability.

America has always been shaped by inflection points — by moments in time where we’ve made hard decisions about who we are and what we want to be.

Lincoln in 1860 — coming to save the Union.

F.D.R. in 1932 — promising a beleaguered country a New Deal.

J.F.K. in 1960 — pledging a New Frontier.

And 12 years ago — when Barack Obama made history — and told us, “Yes, we can.”

We stand again at an inflection point.

We have the opportunity to defeat despair and to build a nation of prosperity and purpose.

We can do it. I know we can.

I’ve long talked about the battle for the soul of America.

We must restore the soul of America.

Our nation is shaped by the constant battle between our better angels and our darkest impulses.

It is time for our better angels to prevail.

Tonight, the whole world is watching America. I believe at our best America is a beacon for the globe.

And we lead not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.

I’ve always believed we can define America in one word: possibilities.

That in America everyone should be given the opportunity to go as far as their dreams and God-given ability will take them.

You see, I believe in the possibility of this country.

We’re always looking ahead.

Ahead to an America that’s freer and more just.

Ahead to an America that creates jobs with dignity and respect.

Ahead to an America that cures disease — like cancer and Alzheimers.

Ahead to an America that never leaves anyone behind.

Ahead to an America that never gives up, never gives in.

This is a great nation.

And we are a good people.

This is the United States of America.

And there has never been anything we haven’t been able to do when we’ve done it together.

In the last days of the campaign, I’ve been thinking about a hymn that means a lot to me and to my family, particularly my deceased son, Beau. It captures the faith that sustains me and which I believe sustains America.

And I hope it can provide some comfort and solace to the more than 230,000 families who have lost a loved one to this terrible virus this year. My heart goes out to each and every one of you. Hopefully this hymn gives you solace as well.

“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,

Bear you on the breath of dawn,

Make you to shine like the sun,

And hold you in the palm of His Hand.”

And now, together — on eagle’s wings — we embark on the work that God and history have called upon us to do.

With full hearts and steady hands, with faith in America and in each other, with a love of country — and a thirst for justice — let us be the nation that we know we can be.

A nation united.

A nation strengthened.

A nation healed.

The United States of America.

God bless you.

And may God protect our troops.

Joe Biden wins Trump is defeated as many across the world anticiplated. People all all over the world celebrate more because of Trump the clown being defeated. Europeans were silent until last evening until the election results were declared that JB was able to claim the majority votes in Philedelphia, which is one of the most crucial battle grounds any presidential hopeful to get elected as POTUS.

Kamala Haris a great woman to do do her job as the VIZE President oft he country. It is believed, TRUMP the dump could hang on with the law suits in the next two months. Shameless man would bring any evasive stories pleasing his 70 mio of voters across the country – texanians are like paralized today not being able to grasp the defeat of their clown whose behavioiurs were not overlooked by even 10 year olds across the world

      Continuing.
      .
Thank you JB and Kamala Haris .. for having proving that CHARACTOR matters.
I can tell you what Germans feel after hearing the great news – most of them I spoke with were in their over joyous moments after a long time. As ist he case in Germany, many would not show their emotions, but they were all against Trump and his behaviour before the world leaders. Trump’s direct attacks on Germany and their its economic ties with other countries incl. Russia was neglected by German media, since they would have to leave all hurtful attacks if they did so. Now many in Germany and Europe, as I see is feeling that the dark cloud growing above Europe is slowly moving out oft he sky.

However, it will not be easy Mr JOE BIDEN to iron out all the mess left behind by Trump the dump (shamless man in all times regarding US politics) within his tenure, but I am optimictic, his would do lot more good in terms of „the Paris Agreement (French: l’accord de Paris)[3] is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other issues based on US-Economy. Above all, no doubt Germans along with US partners will bring a vaccine against COVID-19 sooner than later.

Do not forget the real reason for Trump’s defeat – he messed with China. No US president messed with China, right or wrong. Trump very naively took on the dragon and paid the price.
This is the dragon in the room not many discuss when talking about Trump. Cross the dragon and you are ash.
All his predecessors were not cowards (though he called them) not to confront China. They were wise! A scary lesson for Biden. This is the sad and scary reality.

Not only with China but also with Deutschland and EU. Also Russia was not supporting him further. His politics was seen as no different to that of INCUMBENT leader of Srilanka. Not a single tiny thing is achieved, but Republicans were pleased by his supremacists favoring rhetorics. All is on the hand, nevertheless a leader to make public statements misleading the very same audience ? Most voted him for are coming from the typical RED STATES in the US. That is more or less similar to that of srilanken rural community. That would easily be misled by Nationalism, Racism and extremism. Ranil and CBK are popular to the world, but not to srilanka. Likewise, Obama is a superstar to EUROPE but not to America. Good leaders would not have voter base in their home countries because the majority of locals would not see it beyond…. that is a problem to even developed countries.

“A victory for “We the People.”
Dictatorship never wins. Donald Trump said “My victory like Mahinda and Gota said their victory over Corona and LTTE”. Now Mahinda and Gota blame People are not supporting, God is not supporting.

      “Dictatorship never wins.”
      Really?
I can give a long list of dictators who keep winning with the blessings of the great democracies of the world.
Also, Trump would have tied with a 1/2 percent swing in three close to call states and won with a close to 1% swing in another.

Congratulations to the President Elect and his Vice President. The US will never be perfect, but they have taken a huge step in preventing it from going down a dangerous path, against their democratic policies. There is hope again.

It is a shame that people are easily swept up to a cult like movement, believe conspiracy theories, fake news, and ready to believe anything that could be easily researched and rejected. People should be aware, the first thing a leader who wants to be fascist or a dictator will do is, make the media the enemy. The media is never perfect, but generally everything they report are not lies. There is always some truth in what they say, and instead of attacking journalists or publications, do some independent researching.

Trump followers believed the lies spewed by him (he was fact checked and found to have lied over 20,000 for the past few years). Politicians lie, but Trump’s lies were unsurmountable, and could be verified by his contradictory words one day to the next. Trump supporters consistently link or quote from conspiracy websites that are known to be garbage, disproved theories, and unbelievable. One not so bright man believed one of these far fetched theories, and shot into a Pizza parlor, claiming Hillary Clinton was running a pedophilia ring from inside. Luckily no one was hurt.

Congratulations to Joe Biden. If all conspiracy theories are true, then it is the Socialist takeover of the world via Bill Gates and Sorres and the reported people. Will it be a good thing with a much needed innovation in global political and economic dealings balancing out prosperity for the common man?
      *
Oligarcic rule that aimed to consolidate power with a few that let money trickle/ flow down to the masses via Dictators of the world might have worked well, but how much true control could it have been with the threat of nuclear war hovering over the globe.
      *
But I wonder how greater Socialism would play out with China’s Oligarcic -Communist- Autocratic stance. Would Biden be able to have better integration with China and keep them in order. We can’t defranchise/take revenge on the billions of Westerners because of China’s power-hunger. We hope China will be mindful or the threat of nuclear war will still persist.

“And we lead not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.”
Entire world willing to entering into democracy only can bring peace and prosperity to the world.
Grandma, philosophers have to rule the countries of the world. Philosophers should not be ruled. Education is the medicine for the disease of ignorance. Ignorance is the biggest enemy, not dictators, of democracy. Education is the latest modern arm to fight the tyranny. Education of the world only can protect democracy. Education is there only when philosophers lead. Philosophers’ education to “we the people” go undetermined the when power and the lies rule the world. Nations-united may betray themselves on their path. Shepard needs to stand in front to guide. Shepard cannot he himself. Shepard has to know the path to where the cattle can be happy. Education is about knowing the right path. Leader is one who create confidence in the mind of one’s followers by being right. Nations of the world recognizing the world nation opens the path for peace and property. Let wait and see if Biden-Harris are leading the world to peace and prosperity by preserving the democracy, the promise they made.

When Obama became the President, people in the world had similar hopes. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace even before he did something for world peace. But did he bring peace to the world? ‘NO’. The world became even a more dangerous place to live during his term. His Government destroyed Libya which was a prosperous country that cared for the Libyans under Muammar Gaddafi. Situation in the Middle East got worse during his term.

What’s in a word? Germans seem to telescope words, so they keep getting longer. I don’t mind. However, the more stingy we are with letters, the better!
          .
So, I’ve been using “disfranchise”. Do you see possible objection? All quite trivial, obviously.
          .
How about this? In the Maldives there are “inhabited islands” and “uninhabited islands”. In French, an island with people living on it is referred to as “habited”, while those with no people on them are “inhabited”.
          .
My Belgian neighbour here in Bandarawela knows about fifteen languages in all; ability to convverse fluently in about five. Amazing! I arranged some workfor him in the Maldives (all these can be expanded to long stories) for a whole year – that’s how I cottoned on to that oddity.
          .
Let go of conspiracy theories! truth is often stranger than fiction.

Did Joe actually call Kamala a Black Woman?
Biden is wrong to call her a black women. Actually she is Brown it would be appropriate he addressed her as Brown woman. Don’t you think it is too rich for a racist like yourself to call Biden a racist?

Aren’t you secretly proud of her being a brown woman like your mother, sisters, aunts, grandmas, your absentee father in the local Vihare, …. unlike Aryans?

I don’t engage SL racists like EE, but here I need to clarify something for the CT readers.

When I landed in the US nearly 3 decades ago, I too thought African Americans might find people calling them ‘black’ offensive. But soon I learned they like to be called ‘Black.’ It is their identity and they are entirely comfortable with it. They publish magazines like ‘Ebony,’ which is another name for black. Some nasty racists within the white society use other offensive words like the N word or ‘Coon’ (from ‘raccoon’).

And many South Asians who are part of the right or the Republican party, don’t appreciate the fact that it was the civil rights struggles of African Americans, with blood, toil and other sacrifices, that made their acceptance into American society easier.

    • 5
      1

      Dear Agnos,
To add to your point, noting the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Interestingly, while “White” and “Black” are mainstream terminology, as far as I know no other ethnic group is identified by the stereotyped colour of their skin and doing so is considered unacceptable/derogatory.

      Comedian/actress/talk show host Whoopi Goldberg is vociferously opposed to being referred to as an African American, and others like her on either end have fuelled debates on whether it’s the politically correct terminology;

[“This is my country,” she said. “My mother, my grandmother, my great-grand folks, we busted ass to be here. I’m sorry. I’m an American. I’m not an African-American, I’m not a chick American, I’m an American!”]

However, most Americans are heritage conscious; the white Americans are eager to sub-identify as Irish, Scottish, Italian, German etc.

        Sugandh,

Not about black lives, but about “the charactor matters” was the rhetorics aired to them in the aftermath of JB s victory.

I think we can all agree with that. But in our country, CRIMINALS and high criminals with unbreakable records, with prima facie evidence being mapped, are becoming country s leaders.

She is Tamil too. Her father is Jamaican. Mother is Tamil. Best if Joe did not call her ‘Black’. She is American. Period.

You should read more about how Kamala grew up, where she had her undergraduate education, and what she wanted to be called. Biden was entirely right in her speech where he also called her ‘South Asian’, but those without exposure to how race plays a role in American life wouldn’t understand it.

She is an American of mixed Jamaican/ Tamil heritage. Jamaican father and a Tamil mother. Just like Obama is an American of mixed Kenyan Somali / White Anglo Saxon heritage. Father ethnic Somali from northern Kenya and mother a white Anglo Saxon. Her name Kamala is an acknowledgment of her mother’s Tamil heritage , just like the names Barak and Obama acknowledges his father’s Somali heritage. Kamala Harris has always acknowledged and written about her Tamil heritage, especially about her Tamil grandfather , who had influenced her a lot. She still keeps in touch with her mother’s people in India. Other than the native Americans , the ancestors of all other Americans arrived from somewhere else and this includes Donald Trump’s and all the other white racists.

There is no nationality called Tamil. And never will be. It is Indian.

      Agnos,
I can’t talk about the situation in USA because I did not live there. But with my experience in UK, I can say that the word ‘Black’ is used in a derogatory way. To ‘English Whites’, anyone who is not an ‘English White’ is a black person. Some North Indians are whiter than ‘English Whites’ but they are considered as ‘Black’. Two terms that English people used in a derogatory way are ‘Pakie go home’ and ‘Blackie Go home’.

There’s a general tendency amongst biracial Americans who are part black to self identify as “Black”.

In a world that pegs “Black” at the bottom and refers to Africa as the “Dark” continent, it’s a defiant stance of pride to call themselves “Black” above the rest.

      Biden covered all the bases on Kamala Harris;
“And I will be honored to be serving with a fantastic vice president — Kamala Harris — who will make history as the first woman, first Black woman, first woman of South Asian descent, and first daughter of immigrants ever elected to national office in this country.”

      Agnos and all,
      .
Whites or blacks – are positive terms being used anywhere in the world. white man or black man, would not hurt anyone, but to EE or the like totally uneducated men.Besides, if they would not use the term ” black” for the blacks, instead of using ” afro americans”, there too they could get hurt.
      .
EE or the like oldies are busy with their ULTRA RACISM manthra round the clock so that nothing could go to their dementing brain cells.
      :
In the Duden online German dictionary, the word “Neger” (TODAY referred to as the N-word) is defined as a term for “a person of (very) dark skin.”

In German, it is considered today to be the equivalent of both the dated and debated English term “Negro” and also the undeniably racist term “nigger.” The German word’s definition also includes a warning in red describing it as “highly discriminatory” and “to be avoided.”

Whether uttered in parliament or in a personal conversation, the use of the N-word in Germany to refer to black people is “always derogatory,” activist Charlotte Nzimiro says. “Black people associate the term with a lot of suffering, discrimination and violence directed towards them, as well as inequality and dehumanization,” adds Nzimiro.

Trump behaved like a problem-child in the white house ,not respecting to any of his 100 odd secretaries, Senior Military Generals, and many other senior staff whom he brought in to assist in his administration. However , more than half them were later, either dismissed or resigned due to his own uncompromising attitude in politics. He ran the white house similar to his own business firm. As such, his defeat was very much expected by not only most of the american voters , but also by many other countries

It takes a certain kind of mind set to support a republican candidate in the US election. One of the self evident characteristics of the 48% Trump voters is low IQ. This makes it impossible for these idiots to understand complex problems. No matter how much you explain it to these morons they still wont get it. Another problem trump voters have is in born racism and the fear of people who don’t look like them. It is very easy to stir up such types into violence. By providing them a platform where they hear 24-7 racist B.S. laced with alternate facts and downright lies the Rupert Murdoch media empire such as FOX News and even more extremists right wing media groups and talk show hosts have kept this segment of the US population in a trance of hatred and nastiness. Fortunately the college educated and the younger generation are smart enough to reject this absurd outlook and thanks to them we have a defeat of Neo Fascism on the USA. Now among the 48% of Republican voting morons are Sinhalese Sri Lankans naturalized int he USA. The proud Arya Sinhalese have an affinity to the 48% of the deplorable US population. They too suffer from racism and Low IQ stupidity.

2009 losers have zero IQ. Otherwise they will not mess with low IQ people and get defeated so badly and live under them for 72 years.

Ethnicity has nothing to do with IQ. Such a foolish statement. Zero?
