The hardline group Ravana Balaya has warned that the TNA’s Chief Ministerial Candidate and former Supreme Court Justice, C.V. Wigneswaran would not be permitted to return to Colombo following the conclusion of the Northern Provincial poll, reports said.

General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya movement, an ultra-right wing movement, Ithkande Saddhatissa Thero said the TNA election manifesto was unconstitutional and illegal. The group handed over a petition to the Elections Commissioner yesterday, citing grounds for why the TNA manifesto was a threat to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty.
Speaking to journalists later the Ravana Balaya representatives said Wigneswaran and his party were ready to establish a separate state in the country by seeking land, police, education and financial powers for the north and east.
By the end of the election, Justice Wigneswaran will not be permitted to return to Colombo, the Ravana Balaya General Secretary warned.
Justice Wigneswaran is a resident of the capital Colombo and spent most of his life in the city.

My personal experience with them. One day a monk came to our home asking for charity for some Temple construction or something connected, I cannot quite remember. He was chewing beetle leaf, and his mouth was red and filled with sputum. However, I told him politely that we are Muslims and couldn’t expect much help, and it would be wiser for him to visit Buddhist homes to get what he wants, as they might oblige quite willingly. In response in a threatening way he said ‘Ah ehemada’ translated ‘Ah is that so’, and he turned to go. Suddenly, he turned and walked towards the washed clothes on the line, and spat that red sputum in his mouth directly onto the washed white clothes (my children’s school uniforms) and calmly walked away. I just looked on helpless and shocked, cursing under my breath. These are the type of riff-raffs who inundate these self serving extremist organizations. They are a law unto themselves.

Buddhism in the hands of most violent, uneducated Buddhist priests here is like a garland of flowers in the hands of a buffoon. Since the credentials of the BBS leadership is sullied this new and unnecessary outfit Ravana Balaya has come into being. Don’t they have a iconic Sinhala name instead of stealing the name of an epic Indian figure – who is still venerated in Bharat.
That great son of India – Prince Siddhartha Gautama -preached his followers to be serene, peaceful, gentle of words, kind in thought, shun and speak against violence, keep away from women, beg for alms before noon. How did this compare with our politicised Buddhist priests of today. How about the demeanour and language of that rowdy who goes as a senior priest in Dambulla – who urinated in public displaying his black crown jewels – all in the name of Buddhism.
We must have a leader like JRJ who gave two hoots to these scoundrels – with due respect to those good priests who live by the Dhamma. The Rajapakses cannot be expected to try to control these beasts. They are simply afraid of them. As many readers know both BBS and RB are creatures of the Rajapakses to keep them in power. Once again it is the international community that will eventually have to save Sri Lanka.
