The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today questioned in Parliament as to why the same Police that arrested drug kingpin Makandure Madush has failed to arrest former Central Bank Governor and bond scam suspect Arjuna Mahendran.

Posing a question to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament today, JVP Parliamentarian Nalinda Jayatissa asked as to why the Police have failed to take action against Mahendran, former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
Responding to Jayatissa’s question, the Prime Minister said the final decision on such arrests are made by the judiciary of the countries they are in. Wickremesinghe agreed to present a report in Parliament on steps taken by the Police to arrest the three suspects.
He also added that the Dubai court would first initiate action on Madush.
Mahendran, Weeratunga and Wickremasuriya – suspects in high-profile cases – are currently hiding overseas absconding the Sri Lankan law enforcement mechanism.
Madush was arrested by the Dubai Police authorities in a joint operation carried out with the assistance of the Police Special Task Force (STF). Highly-placed Police sources said the STF sleuths who flew to Dubai prior to the arrest provided intelligence assistance to the Dubai authorities.

S’pore has no reason to arrest the guv’ner as his misdeeds were done in SL.-not in Spore.
His arrest will depend on how seriously his friends in SL pursue the matter.
If they are as half enthusiastic as they are in a possible handing over ofSL military guys to foreign governments for trial – the guv’ner would have been brought back to SL by now.
