JVP and AKD are playing constitutional games, backing Bondscam Ranil and have completely lost the plot!

For the first time in Sri Lanka there are “checks and balances” to political power today.
The President or Executive branch, checked the people’s representatives, or Parliament (of thieves), the second branch of govt. and then the Judiciary, or third branch of govt. weighed in to check the executive.
This is democratic checks and balances in practice, albeit in a Banana republic style since the Lankan parliament was turned into a sewer of horse trading, financial crime and looting of national wealth, by the leaders of the 2 main political parties – UNP’s Bondscam Ranil and SLFP’ s Mahinda Jarapassa over the past 10 years. These two need to share the same prison cell. But JVP that wants only to abolish the Presidency cannot see this!
AKD wants to be next PM of Lanka it seems..

Yes indeed, Kalinga, JVP seems to be fiddling in the dark.
Rather than abolish the already curtailed executive Presidency, it is more important to clean up and reform the parliament or legislature which is a cesspit of corruption.
Of the 3 branches of democratic government – Executive, Judiciary and legislature, it is the latter that is most corrupt and in need of reforms.
JVP should therefore press for reform and banning of MPs crossing the floor of Parliament for the highest bidder. and MP who jumps parties should lose his seat.
JVP should also press for participation of younger generation and ban those over 67 contesting elections.

Right on with this critic of JVP which is supposed to be a Marxist party with economic rights as a core principle. But AKD seems to have forgotten about Economic rights and economic justice and is now following the neoliberal Human Rights identity politics path.

JVP seems completely oblivious re. the Washington led Economic and Cyber War against the people of Lanka at this time to crash the Economy and to bring back Bondscam Ranil as Prime Minister of strategically located Sri Lanka. IMF which turned a blind eye to Central Bank bond scam is waiting and watching now! Ha ha ha!
Mangy’s statement and Moody’s downgrade are all part of the plan to use economic war and weaponize and crash the currency to bring back Washington’s puppet, Bondscam Ranil, who was selling off Lanka’s strategic assets to his US backers cheap as the rupee was being crashed by them!
At the bottom of the political-economic crisis in Sri Lanka today is Trumpland’s Cold war against China in the Indian Ocean. US was in the process of accessing Sri Lanka’s strategic land, transport, energy security infrastructure and Data Platforms to access Lanka’s BIG DATA through Ranil whose economic policies were drafted in Washington, but Sira scuttled this by sacking Bondscam RW!
Now we see the push back from Trumpland to restore their man Bondscam Ranil Wickramsainghe, through the Economic and Cyber war with US Peace Corps who are all over social media to craft the ECONOMIC CRISIS NARRATIVE installed in Lanka.
Rough waters ahead for Lanka and the JVP needs to wake up!
Or, has it been bought off by the Superpower deep state?!

AKD has not uttered a word on the crashing Lankan rupee, expanding debt trap, and geopolitical causes… or need for economic justice for people of Lanka??? Why, why? CIA funds to keep fiddling in the dark?!

    Dear JVP,

Thank you for for all the effort and agitation in countering this constitutional coup by the Sirisens-Rajapaksa Axis Mafia and Cronies.

Long live the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

I think the JVP should be applauded for being the only mainstream party that is platforming the women. It is admirable that they had the character to rise above their own homophobia and had the moral courage to platform a gay man in their last major meeting. IF the JVP had given this opportunity 10 years ago to women , by now it would have a women’s force to platform. Better later than never. Keep it up JVP.

One can make valid criticisms of the JVP, but I’d loudly applaud the secularism and inclusiveness it is demonstrating nowadays in contrast to the other political parties.

Awesome all unpers should vote jvp to form a main opposition for slfp and their business class. Most of unpers are going to do this time since slfp block vote very huge and and very strong ,they have the block vote base to even form 2/3 majority. To face the super power hitler rule of slfp and their business class the pathola party like like unp led by people like Jr or premadasa will to face slfp hitler rule. If most of the unpers will vote for jvp then the jvp will come second and unp will go for third, since unp only has small vote base of 22% no. So better for country that jvp become the main opposition for strong slfp governments hitler rule. Unp patholayos will not suit for that.

It is the duty of every person who values democracy to rise up to be counted today. If democracy fails, then the whole administrative and political system will collapse.

Sirisena has given a body blow to democracy, rule of law by instaling clandestinely a fake Prime Minister who do not have the confidence of the majority members in parliament. The prorogation was meant to buy time for horse trading. The dissolution of parliament was meant to force an election midway.

It is claimed that “Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad.” This is 100% true in regard to Sirisena.

Current Leadership of JVP has forgotten the past. It does not matter who is right or wrong both UNP and SLAF are same. Anyway it looks like JVP no longer a Marxist party. JVP is is a party lost in the jungle. They need to read what Rohana Wijeweera said. First of all getting rid of Anura K and Co.

Dinuk: Your suggestion: “That those MPs who cross over to lose the seat” was a proposal of the JVP introduced to the 19th Amendment. Do you know who OPPOSED it vehemently ? He was none other than Dinesh Gunawardene – the son of “Boralugoda Sinhaya”. It would have definitely dawned on Dinesh how his own father and uncle “Crossed Over” to UNP and retained the Parliamentary seats. Also, Ranil W would have been reminded of those events for him (RW) to support Dinesh to remove that clause from the ’19th Amendment”. What a history in Politics that gets repeated?

JVP can become a panacea for all the illness that the country undergo but they should build up a permanent policy about ailing economy considering the global scenario that eludes their (so far) principled and clean hands. Some trustworthy and professionals are behind them and they attract good number of crowd for their meetings but this support should come as a wave for them to win elections. People of this little country are with short-memories which is evident in the support they show towards MR groups whom they rejected for their unparalleled corruptions some years back. Though MR’s support-base have started dwindling these days because of the blunders they commit nowadays, still the situation has not turned to a point where one party could muster majority seats in the next election. Buying and selling of MPs from one side to the other will continue even after the next election.

“Buying and selling of MP’s from one side to the other will continue even after the next election”.
At the next election unless the JVP or any other political party contesting parliamentary elections assures a commitment to include an entrenched clause in the constitution to the effect,
‘that an MP who switchs loyalty to a party other than the one he/she was elected from, will automatically lose that seat and be compelled to re-contest’ the same seat for the party to which loyalty was switched.
The voters should not vote for a party that fails to have the said commitment in it’s manifesto.

The JVP has a vote bank of about half a million throughout the country. This has remained static since the 1980s. The unbearable Cost of Living, uncontrolled Unemployment, galloping corruption among leading politicians and other serious ills are driving a small percentage more from the SLFP-aligned parties to the JVP. At most, they will have about 10 MPs in Parliament. Wijeweera’s brutal dictatorship, cruelty and inhuman behaviour in the 1971-1989 period is woven far too deeply in the minds of the people – more in the rural and suburban areas. These will not be forgotten soon. Also, people remember JVP’ers like Weerawansa are as corrupt opportunists as those in the other two main parties. Parents of Varsity students fear the fascism of the JVP in the Universities where students are subject to extreme intimidation and gangsterism. Marxism of the JVP variety will only find favour with the lower castes, unemployed graduates and the like until they find comfortable places in political parties in the Right. Most Sinhalese voters are with the UNP and other Right wing Sinhala groupings like the PA/SLFP. The Sri Lankan electorate is roughly 30-35% UNP, 30-35% anti-UNP parties of the Right and the balance between the Ceylon Tamils, the Indian Tamils, Muslims and other small parties.

Unp has 30% votes in srilanka, the stats you are saying in before 1994 on that time slfp had 35% and unp had 35%. In 1994 there were closer to 2 million votes joint for slfp and it become the block votes of unp this is the disaster of unp the slfp block vote base gone up to 42% and unp vote base became 26%. This is the pure reason that unp can’t win any election against slfp. After the entry of rajapaksha in 2005 the middle class and upper middle class was expanded and 85% middle class became slfp blood loyalist because of the business oriented economic policy of mahinda. Then the slfp as a single party holds a block vote base of 47% and unp vote base was further reduced to 23%. Now in srilanka slfp of mahinda has 200% bigger block vote base than a small unp vote base of 23% of unp. Now in srilanka the slfp of mahinda holds a vote base of 46% as a single party since 2005 while unp has 22% , jvp has 6% , TNA 5%, Muslim congress 4%, digambaram has 2%, rishard has 2%, slfp of Maithree has 8% and 5% floating votes. Now the entire vote base of srilanka has divided in to slfp 54% and anti slfp 46%. This is the case since 1994 unp can not win in any election or form a president. This is not fault of Ranil. In 2015 election entire parties of anti mahinda and slfp form a candidate who got 52% with 6% of slfp votes and 6% of jvp votes and entire footing vote base. While mahinda got 46% of slfp votes and 2% of his friendly party votes and got 48%. In a scenario if jvp came out of this anti slfp coalition then maitree can only get 46% and mahinda may be a president.

JVP can easily secure at least 80 to 90 % of Kandy Muslim Votes, but they fear of loosing the Sinhala voters in hand ,due to this is not willing to do open campaigning, in fact ,JVP can secure Minority votes Island wide if they have a good Muslim ,Tamil,& Catholic representatives

They do not have a Tamil and English speaking propaganda ,which sends a wrong and fear mongering signal and rumors that they will be ruthless, they have not done enough to rectify this .
