Lessons On Tolerance & Pluralism: From The Holy Prophet Of Islam

Lukman Harees

As the Muslims remembers the birth of the Prophet of Islam ( on whom be Peace), at one of the most challenging times in their history when they, along with their faith and their role model Prophet are being unfairly tar-brushed and criminalized as being intolerant and averse to Pluralism by political bigots and a biased Western media, it in relevant to refer to his exemplary approaches towards accommodating the ‘other’. The history has proved over the ages that the faith and religious way of life he offered to the war-weary and barbaric world of that time , was not only relevant to the ‘camel riders’ but also the chauffeurs of ‘modern cars too(to borrow some critic references).

His life was a life fully lived, standing out as a role model in all aspects of life whether religious or secular. Whatever aspect of life we look at or whichever dimension of the life of the Holy Prophet (S) we try to explore, we find strength and nobility of character and serenity or inner-calm, which comes with communion with God in the fullest sense. His nobility, generosity and magnanimity , shows itself most of all in charity and kindness to all men and more generally to all beings. There was no narrowness or pettiness in the soul of the Holy Prophet (S) and no limitation in giving of himself to others. His blessed life is full of examples that have kept generations of Muslims and Mankind inspired.

He was born in 570 AD to a noble family of Makkah, Arabia and received his first revelation from God at 40, His subsequent call to monotheism and social reform was heavily opposed by the Makkan elite and were put through enduring thirteen years of intense persecution. His 23 years of his prophetic mission and teachings was holistic , result-oriented, action packed and colourful which even his bitterest critics acknowledged as being of universal application and down to earth practical. Reverend Bosworth Smith in ‘Muhammad and Muhammadanism,’ London, 1874 says, “Head of the State as well as the Church, he was Caesar and Pope in one; but he was Pope without the Pope’s pretensions, and Caesar without the legions of Caesar, without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a police force, without a fixed revenue’. French Philosopher Lamartine remarked, “Philosopher, Orator, Apostle, Legislator, Conqueror of Ideas, Restorer of Rational beliefs…. The founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”.

One of the great landmarks of his life achievements was that he worked for peace, but also defined the parameters of the judicious use of force as well, when force was needed. He convinced people to give up alcohol, drugs, prostitution and crime, and promoted healthy living. He condemned domestic violence, encouraged his wives to speak their own mind, and granted Muslim women many rights not dreamed of in Europe until centuries later, including the right to own property, reject arranged marriages, and seek divorce because of incompatibility. And he encouraged his followers to seek beneficial knowledge wherever it could be found, with the result that Muslims never experienced a conflict between science and religion, and led the world in many fields of learning for centuries afterwards. Although his enduring legacy can be observed in everything from art to politics, his greatest achievement by far was to re-establish pure monotheism. As simple and straightforward to understand as the nucleus at the centre of an atom, the concept of One God lies at the heart of Islamic culture. Muslims turn to their Creator for guidance, without the need for intermediaries, or the loss of dignity that idolatry and superstition bring.

Holy Prophet (S) and his followers were invited to relocate to Madinah, a town to the north that had been torn apart by generations of intertribal warfare. He successfully settled their differences and forged a bond of brotherhood between two warring factions, as well as between the locals and the new emigrants. For Arab tribal society, this was an amazing accomplishment. The early Muslims learned to implement the golden rule under his tutelage: ‘No one truly believes until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself.’ Further, the tolerance he displayed and the mercy he offered even to the worst of enemies, for example at the Victory of Makkah, were legendary. He forgave even his bitterest enemies and offered peace to all.

Being a great social reformer he was, religion was not a matter of personal conviction alone but a complete way of life, and Madinah flourished under his leadership. The ‘Madina Charter ’ or model of government, based on justice, respect for human dignity and God-consciousness, became the template to which Muslims have looked for guidance and inspiration ever since. He drew up the world’s first constitution in which the rights of religious minorities were protected, and entered into treaties and alliances with neighbouring tribes. He sent letters to the rulers of the Persians, Egyptians, Abyssinians and Byzantines, announcing his message of pure monotheism and inviting them to accept Islam. For the first time in history, women, children, orphans, foreigners and slaves were granted extensive rights and protection. Many of his concerns seem surprisingly ‘modern’: he condemned racism and nationalism, saying ‘there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or a white man over a black man, except in righteousness.’ He established laws protecting animals, trees and the environment. He encouraged free trade and ethical investments, but secured workers’ rights and forbade usury.

It is in this instance that it is pertinent to make a further mention about this ‘Medina Charter’, which even President Sirisena too mentioned in his message to mark the Birthday of the Holy Prophet(S). The Charter of Medina was drafted by the Holy Prophet (S) shortly after his arrival at Medina, following the migration from Mecca. This formed the basis of a multi-religious Islamic state in Medina. The constitution was created to end the bitter intertribal fighting between the rival clans of Medina and to maintain peace and cooperation among all Medinan groups. Establishing the role of Muhammad (S) as the mediating authority between these two groups and all others in Medina was central to the ending of Medinan internal violence and was an essential feature of the constitution. The document ensured freedom of religious beliefs and practices for all citizens and assured that representatives of all parties, Muslim or non-Muslim, should be present when consultation occurs or in cases of negotiation with foreign states.

The Medina Charter serves as an example of finding resolve in a dispute where peace and pluralism were achieved not through military successes or ulterior motives but rather through respect, acceptance, and denunciation of war – aspects that reflect some of the basic tenets of the religion Holy Prophet (S) was guiding and promoting. Through an examination of the Medina Charter, pluralism and tolerance were advanced and instated in Medina, which could help avoid the divide and misunderstanding plaguing much thought, rhetoric, and media today between Muslims, and others, all over the world. Peace was achieved in Medina, through the unyielding principles of Islam – tolerance, love, reason, and a belief in God. The Medina Charter, thus shows that Islam rejects the use of compulsion in religion and violence and that over centuries of human existence, the most effective way to resolve conflicts comes through mediation. This Charter is an example that should be discussed and referred to in current conflicts. The creation of a community, or ummah, offers pluralism to everyone. For people are not judged on their beliefs, but on their actions. Persecution is the instigator of all tensions, and reason and tolerance is the essence of all peace. Just as in the streets of Medina, through tolerance and respect, we too may one day have a world-wide community , where people of all races and faiths can co-exist on the basis of mutual tolerance and pluralism.

The Holy Prophet (S) accomplished all this within a short space of only 23 years, and through the strength of his character and personal example; he inspired in his followers a love, devotion and sense of awe that was unparalleled. He preached religious moderation and balance; he forbade his followers to adopt a monastic lifestyle and preferred that they establish strong families and engage themselves in bettering the world around them, while remaining deeply conscious of God. In the brief space of one generation and during his own lifetime, he transformed the once barbaric and uncivilized society into an exemplary set of people imbibed in the highest standards of moral conduct and yearning to create a world based on justice and peace. Within 100 years , his message had touched the hearts and lives of millions in Africa, Asia and parts of Europe. History bore witness to the fact, that it was the Quranic teachings and the inspiration given by the Holy Prophet (S), which encouraged the Muslim intellectuals to acquire explorative knowledge and science of astronomy, medicine and mathematics during the so called ‘Dark Age’, the benefits of which we are reaping today. Today, Muslims have, along with the Qur’an, a reliable codified account of his life and teachings, which form the holistic foundation of a satisfying way of life for them, while for others, they provide a fascinating glimpse into the heart and mind of an exceptional man and role model from whom much can be learned, for he was the Messenger of God to all mankind.

This great personality’s revolution was no ordinary revolution; it was an ideological, intellectual, social, economic, political, moral and spiritual revolution moulded into one single system revolving round the concept of the Only Creator and Sustainer of the world. Seen from the worldly point of view, he was a genius unparalleled in the history of mankind. What makes us in awe of the Holy Prophet (S) is that there is no aspect of human society today that he did not deal more than 14 centuries ago. In contemporary terms, we would say that he was a sociologist, a psychologist, a military commander, an international leader, a manager, a physician, a head of state, a philosopher, and a visionary (just to name a few of his roles). Through him, we see Islam as a comprehensive way of life. We see the Shari’ah (Islamic law) being lived, and we can extrapolate standards by which to operate and to evaluate the degree to which we are living the Islamic way of life successfully. It was the multi-faceted character of his holistic personality which impressed many of modern writers and philosophers of modern times to explore his great life. Mahatma Gandhi admiring his great personality quipped ,’ “…I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and his own mission. These, and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every trouble’. Muslim Rule in Spain was a recent example of how Muslims who followed their Prophet’s advice, ruled with justice, tolerance and mutual respect.

Sadly, especially in the post-September 11th era, a new wave of antagonism has arisen, and people around the Western world and elsewhere generally fear Islam, as result of the machinations of the Islamophobia lobby. People confuse the actions of nationalists and fundamentalists, who hide behind some cherry picked verses of the Quran taken out of context, with what the actual religion promotes. His personal ambition as given to him by God was one of spreading peace and unity, creating a community, or Ummah, made up of diverse groups, through the teachings of the Quran and in the name of Islam. This is what the mainstream Muslims believe in and what they profess to follow. Thus, at a time, when the world believes in the use of force and violence to solve problems and the religious extremism has become a norm rather than an exception , the exemplary life of the Holy Prophet of Islam (S) will always be a beacon light offering a practical way to ‘live and let live’ and achieve sustainable peace while shunning oppression of Man by Man. As the Quran emphasizes this need for avoid mutual hatred and promote mutual understanding and tolerance: “O mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know and honour each other (not that you should despise one another).”

Thanks for a very good article. I wish you have published the full contents of the Medina Charter for us non-Muslims. I am also pleased that you recognised that some Muslims are hiding behind cherry-picked verses taken out of context. Sadly there are many of them and with great influence E.g. the Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia with their rigid practice of the worse elements of Shari’ah Laws has brought Islam as a religion to be feared for its intolerance on other religions, the opposite of which, as you say, was the message from Allah.

      Hi Sylvia

Many thanks for your comments and appreciate your views. . It is very important for all of us to view matters, events and trends holistically ,to get a full picture and identify the actual forces behind them. Please view the origins of Wahhabism and ISIS for example to understand that many extremist groups who hide behind Islam , have geo- socio/-political twists as well. If you happen to watch the lifestyles of those elements involved in Paris attacks, you will see how ‘Islamic they were’ (whisky drinking- pub owning ). In fact, Muslims have suffered more from these extremist elements and the ordinary people living in Saudi and other Arab countries have been suppressed by those despotic rulers.
It is important to realize that the mainstream Muslims are silenced by the Islamaphobic narrative which has taken centre stage, and sadly they are being unfairly asked to apologize for these brutal acts which are committed by these extremist groups who have hijacked Islam to serve their own interests. I agree with you that Muslims should be more vocal in showing their stance aganist these extremist elements.

        Dear sir

I have a feeling that English (Western) educated Muslims, in the face the existing military balance, are engaged in wholesale “Taquiya” in denouncing ISIL and a large number of groups fighting under the mantle of Islam.

        I came across the following(Wikipedia):

“Regarding 3:28, Ibn Kathir writes, “meaning, except those believers who in some areas or times fear for their safety from the disbelievers. In this case, such believers are allowed to show friendship to the disbelievers outwardly, but never inwardly.” He quotes Muhammad’s companion, Abu Ad-Darda’, who said “we smile in the face of some people although our hearts curse them,” and Al-Hasan who said “the Tuqyah is acceptable till the Day of Resurrection.”[14]”

How do you interpret the above to us?

(Readers are encouraged to Google the word “Taquiya” and enlighten themselves)

          My dear friend
Please do not take things out of context. You must look at the matters you wish to debate about in totality. Pleas read what I am writing very carefully without uttering what Gnanassara said too ,after the Slave Island incident involving Vijitha Thero. He said Quran allowed Thaqiya and he is paying for it in the courts. Don’t be just a Google expert.

In law and other codes of living, there are general rules and also there are exceptional instances permitted. If under duress, if a confession is uttered for example, then you cannot hold it against the confessor. There are other many examples in law involving many instances of danger to one’s life. This is not applicable in all situations. Please read in detail. . . So are the matter of not ‘speaking the truth.

In Islam, all aspects of living are regulated and guided with specificities and not vague general guidelines. That is why there are concepts of Haram (what is permitted) and Haram (what is not), and others in between. In all situations, it is clear as day light that speaking the truth is specified in all instances. Holy Prophet (S) has the most impeccable character and was well known in his own society even before his prophet-hood at 40, and was called ‘Al-Ameen’ which means Trustworthy and Assadiq which means Truthful. No one ever doubted him in this respect ,not even his bitterest enemies. Not even his bitterest critics in modern times. Read what other non-Muslim intellectuals have referred him in their writings.

Quran says : “Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the devils descend? “They descend on every lying, sinful person.”. Prophet (S) said said, “Beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to Fire (of Hell). A man may lie and strive hard in lying until he is recorded with Allah as a ‘Liar’. You should be truthful, for truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. A Man may speak truth and strive hard in speaking truth until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person.” He also said a true Muslim cannot be a liar’.

As Islam is a complete practical way of life, it should also cover exceptions too , like how it has allowed war in certain prescribed instances. Therefore, a question will arise what if a person is under danger of being put to death or under duress; can he abstain from uttering the truth . Thus, to cover these eventualities, some Jurists of the Shia Sect have given a strict exception , However, in Sunni Sect (which is the majority)view, denying faith under duress is viewed only at most permitted and not under all circumstances obligatory. Shia jurist view about this exception to the general rule runs as follows.

Taqiya literally “fear, caution”, is a form of religious dissimulation, or a legal dispensation whereby a believing individual can deny his faith or commit otherwise illegal or blasphemous acts while they are in fear or at risk of significant persecution. This practice was emphasized in Shi’a Islam whereby adherents may conceal their religion when they are under threat, persecution, or compulsion. Taqiyya was developed to protect Shi’ites who were usually in the minority and under pressure from the majority Sunni Muslims, and Shi’a Muslims as the persecuted minority have taken recourse to dissimulation from the time of the mihna (persecution) under Al-Ma’mun in the 9th century. In some Shi’a denominations, taqiyya is permissible in situations where there is overwhelming danger of loss of life or property and where no danger to religion would occur thereby. Yarden Mariuma writes: “Taqiyya is an Islamic juridical term whose shifting meaning relates to when a Muslim is allowed, under Sharia law, to lie. A concept whose whose meaning has varied significantly among Islamic sects, scholars, countries, and political regimes, it nevertheless is one of the key terms used by recent anti-Muslim polemicists”.
“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. they say

          About Taquyah, Part II

Permitted lies according to Sunni school of thought

Inspite of all these prohibitions on lying as per general rules, as already said , there are some exemptions . Following Prophet (s)’s saying, tells us which lies are permitted to be spoken:

“He is not a liar who reconciles between people saying good things and conveying good things.”Ibn Shihab said that she said: “I did not hear of any concession being granted concerning anything that people call lies except in three cases: War, Reconciling among people & What a man says to his wife or a woman says to her husband (in praise).”

(Hadith No. 6633 (2605), Book of Al-Birr, Sahih Muslim, Vol. 6).

This Prophetic narrationrequires a little bit of explanation. The three exemptions listed above are:

War – Scholars explain that it is not regarded as a lie if someone is in a war-like situation and he / she tells a lie in front of disbelievers to save life.
Reconciling – This is self-explanatory; if we try to reconcile two people by giving and spreading good information about each or any of them; it is not termed as a lie.
Husband & Wife saying to each other – This is one of the noblest exemptions for us. If a man or a woman has a spouse who is not much good looking but he / she praises her / him for her beauty or his smartness, then it is not regarded as a lie. This may be extended to praising the spouse for any of his / her action also. However, praise for any action which violates Islamic laws, is not allowed.

You can read it here. The earliest Constitution ever written.

      http://www.constitution.org/cons/medina/macharter.htm

The document must be judged in its historical context, not by modern standards. When considering the fact that the Charter was drafted 1500 years ago, you realize that it was way ahead of its time.

Praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds, and may Allah raise the rank of the trustworthy Prophet Muhammad. Thereafter, this book is Hashiyat al-^allamah as-Sawi ^ala Tafsir al-Jalalayn authored by Sheykh Ahmad bin Muhammad as-Sawi al-Maliki who died in 1241 Hijri (which means that he died more than 170 years ago).

This book was printed by Dar al-Jeel Beirut. In the second volume, the third section and on page 288 of this book regarding the interpretation of ayah (6) surat fatir Which means surley , the shaitan is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy. He calls his followers so they become amongst the people of the blazing Hellfire the author said : and it was related that this ayah was revealed about the Khawarij who misinterpret the Quran and the Hadith legitimizing the killing and the confiscating muslims proporties; as it is seen now in their equal who are group in the land of al-Hijaz called al-Wahhabiyyah. They [al-Wahhabiyah] think they are following the proper creed; rather they are the liers whom which Shaitan overwhelmed and made them forget the thikr of Allah. They are the followers of Shaitan, and surely the followers of Shaitan are the losers. We ask Allah the all_Generous to imputate their origin. …end of quote of Imam as-Sawiy al-Maliki.

This is the reality of al-Wahhabiyyah, may Allah relief the muslims and their countires from them; and all due thanks to Allah.

Constitution is one thing. Practice is another.

Examples; Wahhabis and their clones, and many countries including Sri Lanka.

However, not all what the Muslims did after Prophet Mohamed, would not have been approved by him. The others introduced their own versions.

ISIS has nothing to do with the teachings of Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab. Calling to pure monotheism can never be exaggerated. The Wahhabi/Salafi or whatever people like to call them, are calling people away from the unforgivable sin of associating partners with Allah. Arabia was nomadic at that time and Muhammed Ibn Saud’s alliance with Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab brought much good. Muslims cannot imagine how Arabia would be today, infested with innovations and grave worship.

Imam Mohammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab lived in the 18th century during Mohammed Bin Saud’s era, nothing to do with the current 20th century House of Saud. (note the time line)

Muslims are not supposed to follow a School of Thought blindly, rather the Noble Quran and the authentic sunnah of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as practiced by the Prophet (pbuh) and understood by his rightly guided companions.

Imam Mohammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab’s only mission was to return Muslims to Tawheed and prevent them from performing the unpardonable sin of Shirk. His simple advice was pray for the dead and not to the dead. Praying to the dead is worship in Islam. All his books are about this topic.

A complete brief on the Prophet Mr. Lukman Harees

Sadly though the picture painted and the actions of muslims does not do any justice to the great religion now followed by over 22% of worlds populations.

however the percentage of people harming the religion are small compared to the number of followers. The bad news gets blown out of proportion while the injustice against Muslims hardly gets highlighted or resolved.

Even with current atmosphere Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world,The number of Muslims expected to grow more than twice as fast as the world’s population from now until 2050 which means amid the chaos more people are finding the true meaning of what Islam propagates. This is a fact. Much will be done to prolong this progress. Conflicts are part and parcel of worlds evolution process. At any given time there has been conflicts in one form or other. Now it has been shepherd towards Islamic Terrorism. Like all conflicts this will also come to an end God Willing.

    I don’t disrespect anyone’s God’s or believes, don’t disrespect my believes.

RE: Lessons On Tolerance & Pluralism: From The Holy Prophet Of Islam

    1. ” when they, along with their faith and their role model Prophet are being unfairly tar-brushed and criminalized as being intolerant and averse to Pluralism by political bigots and a biased Western media,”

Well before the current Western Media challenged certain aspects and revelations of Islam, Islamic Philosophers and Scientists Challenged the Quran and Hadith, based on Reason, and observation in the 12th century. Unfortunately for the Muslims, Revelation was elevated above reason, however inaccurate the Revelation, the Muslims had to believe in it.

Islam is 14% Quran (comprising 66% Mecca, 43% Medina), 26% Sira, Prophets Mohamed’s Biography, and 60% Hadith, as measured by Texts.

Read about the decline of Islamic Science and Philosophy, and Al Ghazali.

The Christian West overcame these limitations in the 16th Century. The Muslims have yet to get over it.

Remember, the Vested interests, the Mullahs and Ulemns will try to keep their Hegemony just like then Christian priests did 500 years ago. Remember the Inquisition? The Protestant Reformation?

The problem Muslims have is a rot from inside. Instead of admitting the rot they have from inside, they point to others.

    What are the Roots?

    1. Wahhabis and their Clones and actions. Are they following what Prophet preached doing the Meccan period? No.

They follow the Devil, Satan, Iblis.

    2. The Moderate Muslims have failed to point out these Iblis , Satan following Wahhanis and their clones, who go around using various names such as Salafis, Tauheed etc.

I am sad that Brunei like many Islamic nations do not allow the minority religions to openly practice their faith. Why is that? Why cannot someone celebrate Christmas in Brunei or Saudi Arabia if they wanted to openly as you do celebrate because of the Buddhist majority tolerance in Sri Lanka?

Can you explain that too? I am confused. Christians are being raped, tortured and beheaded by the score in the 21st century and everyone is keeping quiet. You keep telling us about this tolerance but I see not tolerance in Kattankudy and other areas where Wahabi radicals attack Sufis and look at the number of Shias being killed in Iraq. How can we keep blaming Jews and the West for this Harees brother? There are mosques in ALL western CHRISTIAN nations but no churches in Saudi Arabia. Why?

Islam also has about 80 or a few more different sects and most of those sects are very peaceful people.

but, the question is muslims killing muslims and other devotees of other religions in the name is Islam. How does that happen.

Religion is mostly to tame the animals like humans to humans and to raise humans to god level. IF that is not happening where it is wrong in the religion ?

In african countries as well as in Saudi Arabia where ISlam is supposed to be originated, Islam is a violent cult. In Africa, girls have been stoned to death simply becase she had written a letter to a christian boy. ADulatery is common among muslim men. But, the same is not allowed to women and it is punishable by death.

Where it is wrong. Islamic teachings are in Quran.

does Quran is interpretable by any idiot the way he wants ?

So, how do you stop this disaster.

ISlam is a political religion and has violent nature, other countries are using it for their advantage.

The one book that is common to Muslim’s of all sects is the Holy Quran. It has not been changed by one syllable or even one letter over the centuries, while the books of other religions have undergone many modifications to suit the times and changing situations.

With great that advantage to have consensus, it is surprising how the different sects kill each other based on their own interpretations Quran and as you say even such a book “interpretable by any idiot the way he wants”.

I think it shows what human nature is, the need to indulge in violence, and find some excuse to justify that. It also shows that whether in politics or religion, most people are either rice eating cattle or grass eating humans.

Sadly, one of the tenets of Islam is that it is blasphemous to question them. In Saudi Arabia, the caretakers of Islam, the punishment is Death Therefore Islam has no opportunity to modify or reform.

“In Saudi Arabia, the caretakers of Islam, the punishment is Death “‘

          CORRECTION:

In Saudi Arabia, the caretakers of Satan infected Wahhabi Islam, the punishment is Death.

Satan is Happy the way it is right now, because the satan wants to recruit as many people as Satan can so that on the day of Judgement, Satan won’t be alone on hell, but will have plenty of company of the Wahhabies and their clones.

          Devil (Islam), Satan.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_(Islam)

In Islam, the Devil is known as Iblīs (Arabic: إبليس‎, plural: ابالسة abālisah), Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان‎, plural: شياطين shayāṭīn) or Shaitan. In Islam, Iblis is a jinni who refused to bow for Adam.

The primary characteristic of the Devil is hubris.[1] His primary activity is to incite humans and jinn to commit evil through deception, which is referred to as “whispering into the hearts”.[2] The Quran mentions that Satans are the assistants of those who disbelieve in God: “We have made the evil ones friends to those without faith.”[3]

The angels, being creatures of pure reason without lower animal desires, do not sin. When God created Adam, he commanded all the angels and Iblis (whose high rank allowed him to worship Allah with the angels) to prostrate to Adam.[1] All the angels did so, but Iblis refused, and was deprived of Allah’s Mercy because of his arrogant disobedience.[13] For this God cast him out of Jannah (paradise), and intended to punish him. Iblis begged God to delay the punishment until Yawm al-Qiyāmah (Last Judgment), and his request was granted.[14]

Another beautiful article by Mr Lukman Harees, the author of many books such as mirage of dignity, clouding the crescent .’thevatha’ etc. Spot on. This article of his gives strong messages to those who are intentionally attempting to blaspheme Islam painting a totally wrong picture on the messenger of Allah and His Quran. This article also serves as an eye opener to those who have been brain washed and misled by the ‘ zionised ‘ west who want no stones unturned to see that Muslims and their prophet are branded as terrorists. Thank you Mr. Lukman. Keep up your good work

This short explanation to those who are curious about the so-called Wahhabi label.

The Wahhabi label is used by the enemies of Islam to negatively label the religious revivalist movement. Unfortunately, certain Muslims, particularly those who adhere to mysticism, followed suit in the labelling game because Islam is against the practices of grave and saint worship. Worshipping or calling onto anyone other than Allah is a form of major polytheism.

Insisting on the Wahhabi label implies that the current Saudi Rulers implements the exact teachings of Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab gives fuel to the writings of the orientalists and the Islamophobe. The Rulers, like any other regime, has its faults. However, it has many good things in that society which are remnants of the teachings of Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab’s revivalist movement. His teachings are not confined to a government or a geographic region. Those who follow the creed preached by Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab, are not only confined to Arabia…they exist in every Muslim community and their scholars are the most respected and knowledgeable. Wherever these Salafi school of thought exist, they usually assume moral leadership of the communities they live in and become the most active in teaching the Sunnah, calling the people to abide by it and implementing it themselves.

ISIS, a revolutionary and defiant ideology, it’s an offshoot of Al-Qaeda. Osama bin Laden, the former Al-Qaeda leader, was at odds with the so-called Wahhabi scholars and the Saudi government. Yet, you find that Osama bin Laden is labelled a Wahhabi, when he was in fact on the opposite end of the spectrum from so-called Wahhabism, or more accurately, Salafism. The word Salafi, like the word Islam, has been hijacked and used by different groups. NAMES DON’T MATTER IN REALITY, INSTEAD, THE PRACTICES AND ACTIONS DO MATTER.

It is obligatory upon the Muslims to follow the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), according to the way of the righteous salaf who followed the guidance of the Prophet (pbuh), the companions, ‘Sahabah’ and those who followed them, may Allah be pleased with them all. Everyone who follows the way brought by the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is a Muslim. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) brought the message of Tawheed (absolute Oneness of Allah) and rejection of shirk (polytheism, or association of others with Allah); he called people to worship Allah alone and none other. With regard to the word “Wahhabis”, some people erroneously use this word to refer to the message of Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab Ibn Sulaymaan al-Tameemi al-Hanbali, (may Allah have mercy on him) and they call him and his followers falsely, Wahhabis. Everyone who has any knowledge of the movement of Imam Muhammed Ibn Abdul Wahhab and his message knows that he sought to spread the message of pure Tawheed and to warn against shirk in all its forms, such as attachment to the dead, or to trees and rocks, etc. Our ‘aqeedah’ (belief), is following the way of the righteous Salaf and the Tabi’een [i.e., the earliest generations of Islam], as is indicated by his books and fatwas, and the books of his followers among his sons and grandsons and others. All of these books are in print and are in circulation among the people.

His message was in accordance with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of our Messenger (pbuh). The so-called Wahhabism is not a new way or a new school of thought; rather it is a call to Tawheed and the revival of aspects of the religion that had been neglected / forgotten. What you have to do is to beware of those who warn you against the so-called Wahhabis, because they are warning you against following the truth and the early generation of this ummah.

these people deny, at present, muslims killig muslims, discrimination against women, muslims killing christians and buddhists.

These people deny why a muslim girl has to die by stoning to death just for writing a love letter to a christian boy.

They don’t want to admit that they are dishonest and are lieing to the teeth.

    Izeth Husseing says Muslim fundamentalism.

this Gentlemen says Muslims favour Pluralism.

IF that is so, Why the following thing happens.

“It comes as no surprise when Sri Lanka is being accused of ‘attacking’ Muslims. The allegations come from the very globalists who created a brand of Islam better known as Wahhabism mandated to destroy Islam from within. Suffi’s of Sri Lanka are today under attack by the Wahhabis. Globalist media is quick to point fingers at the Buddhists. The LTTE strategy was to wipe out the moderate Tamils which they did successfully, the Wahhabis are using that same blueprint in Sri Lanka by targeting the moderate Muslims – the Suffis before launching a future wave of terrorism on orders of the globalists unless the Government does not ignore the impending doom and does not allow to repeat what shaped into LTTE terrorism by inaction that became a hallmark of previous governments. Wahhabis attacking Sufis 1. Wahhabi-Sufi clashes in Kattankudy, Batticoloa District spurred as a result of Wahhabi men mocking Sufi women on their way to a Sufi mosque and led to clashes with even fire arms being used and curfew imposed. 7 cases of property torched, 2 houses damaged, 8 motobikes torched. The meeting organized by the Police led to Jammiyathul Ulema (who represent Grand Mosque in Kattankudy) putting 10 regulations affecting the belief and practices of Sufis. Jammiyathul Ulema demanded Suffis to abide by their rules, to stop radio broadcasts, and publishing Suffi newspapers. Suffis refused to accept these terms. It was a clash of religious thought and not many Muslims like to publicize this. 2. 2004 October again in Kattankudy – a book published by a Suffi leader ( M S M Abdullah) declared ‘un-Islamic’ by Jammiyathul Ulema representing Wahhabi school of thought. Result was over 200 Suffi houses burnt down. A fatwa was declared against M S M Abdullah leading to a court settlement. 3. 2006 – clashes between Suffis and Wahhabis in Oddamavadi 4. Wahhabis demanded removal of M S Abdual Payilvan’s (leader of Suffi sect and President of All Island Tharikathul Mufliheen) who was buried at the Tharikathul Mufliheen mosque burial grounds in Kattankudy. Wahhabis went on to dig the buried body and dumped the body on a local road. The policy recovered the body and re-buried it in the original burial space. 5. Wahhabis are headquartered in Kattankudy, East Sri Lanka. Their brand of terror was seen in the gunning down of Lateef in Oddamavadi and even gunning down those who leave Wahhabism. 6. 2009 – clashes in coastal town of Beruwala between popular Sufi sheikh and Wahhabi congregation. 7. 2013 – Pottuvil, Suffi Muslim shrine demolished. So far 10 to 15 shrines and 25 mosques had been attacked all over the country by the Wahhabis Globally too the attacks on Suffis’ by Wahhabis have increased. · Sudan’s Islamic Wahhabi Government is attacking black Sufis in Darfur · Iraq’s Suffi’s are regularly attacked by Wahhabis using suicide bombers. Wahhabi Quest to “Arabize” Islam There are 1.2billion people who follow Suffism but to the Wahhabis and the Taliban – Suffis are their enemy. The obvious aim is to wipe out 1400 of Suffi culture and ‘Arabize’ them. The key word is certainly Arabize – for Islam is not Arabic culture and the sudden surge in people wearing burqa/nikab shows how Muslims have been forced to adapt to Wahhabi Arabic culture as a new wave of dress code is being dictated. Arabic culture is certainly not Islam. Muslims must question whether they are following Islam or Arabic Wahhabi Islam. Wahhabism – British Engineered to destroy Islam/Muslims from within Wahhabism created by the British has hardly any credibility in claiming Sufis are not following Islam. Wahhabism started only in the 18th century therefore it cannot qualify to be dictating how people should follow Islam. On the other hand Suffism is believed to have grown out of early Islamic asceticism during 661-749 AD. Then there is also the question of the House of Saud descending from Jewish merchants. In the 1960s ‘Sawt al Arab’ Broadcasting Station in Cairo, Egypt and the Yemen Broadcasting Station in Sana’a even confirmed the Jewish ancestry of the Saudi family. King Faisal Al-Saud did not deny his family’s kindred with the Jews and he declared on 17 September 1969 to the Washington Post that ‘We, the Saudi Family, are cousins of the Jews: we entirely disagree with any Arab or Muslim Authority which shows any antagonism to Jews; but we must live together with them in peace. Our country (Arabia) is the fountain head from where the first Jew sprang, and his descendants spread out all over the world’. Which next raises the question is Islam the actual religion practiced by the Saudi Family and are they of Arab origin at all? The King of Saudi has even attended Bilderberg meetings.

Troika Alliance – West-Saudi-Israel When the Saudi royals have aligned to the West and Israel in a humanitarian disguised military offensive that has created what is known as the Arab Spring we need to ask how far Saudi the citadel of Muslim’s holiest place is actually protecting the interests of the world’s Muslims and moreover why their religious sect the Wahhabis are being used to not only wage wars against non-Muslims as well as Muslims starting off with the Suffis it is no better a time to realize who the enemies really are. West’s Quest to destroy Islam through Wahhabis Saudi embassies are said to be acting as centres to promote or outsource Wahhabism. Local Wahhabi institutes, publications and propagandists are funded through the embassies. If we were to designate extremist Islamists – they are the Wahhabi followers and not Suffis. Suffis are those who are religious inclusive and assimilate with local traditions and they do not shun other religions and certainly tolerant. Suffis do not shun music, poetry and other artistic forms, they inculcate intellectual exploration and open to modern knowledge and science. Wahhabis are against music, dance and social mixing of sexes, they oppose display of images – humans or animal, praying at graves and assigning divinity to the Prophet, or celebrating his birthday or praying to him. They don’t like cricket either evident by those that attacked Sri Lanka’s cricketers in Pakistan. This is what Wahhabis stand for, how many Muslims in Sri Lanka follow this or adhere to this? Prior to Wahhabis entering Sri Lanka in mid 1970s, the Muslims of Kattankudy were praying at graves, seeking favors from God through prayer, singing songs in praise of God, organizing festivals, distributing food for Prophets birthday and using flowers in prayer. These were all customs that came through Tamil/Indian customs and rituals as the earliest Muslims arrived from India. What we see popularly around us though is the creeds of Mullahs – flogging, killing, imposing religious fear, militancy. Wahhabis ban Muslims from praying the way they want to in Mecca and Medina, Wahhabis have destroyed numerous monuments associated with the Prophet, his family and his companions. No different to how the Christian Church and the monarchy of medieval Europe was aligned the rulers of Saudi Arabia and the mullahs of the Wahhabi Al-e Shaikh are aligned. Both have become a curse to their followers and those they want to destroy. Al Qaeda and leader Osama Bin Laden is also said to be a Wahhabi. Wahhabis think only they are Allah’s chosen ones, only they are following the correct path – everyone else becomes their enemy. Yet, the silent majority of Muslims are not Wahhabis. But Sufis are not well organized, they do not have massive funds, they are not combative, they don’t make demands on other Muslims –all that the Wahhabis do. Sufis are moderate because they believe God will guide people if He wills. This innocent attitude is now clashing with the hardcore attitudes of the Wahhabis. Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America says that Wahhabism is ‘like an octopus – its tentacles reaching everywhere’. It was he who said in 1999 that 80% of mosques in US were run by extremists. He goes on to say that ‘moderate scholars have no access to anything. The dominating voice today is the voice of the Wahhabi sect. They dominate everything – publishing, books, money. Everything is in their hands’. If Suffi’s say Islam is peaceful in its history and Islam does not allow aggression – the question of who is the aggressor is obviously clear – Wahhabism. It is a radical ideology, financed by oil money and kept as a political tool by the Western globalists. But Muslims are not willing to speak against Wahhabis because they are being threatened. The Shaykh goes on to say that the clash of civilizations is actually among Muslims themselves because they are fighting each other and killing each other – it is exactly what the West wants them to do, Wahhabis have stripped human rights in the countries they control. Muslims are divided because the Prophet said ‘my ummah will be divided into 73 different groups’. The problem for the Muslims are a foreign planted hegemony prevails – they have both money and power and foreign influence that ensures they prevail. Wahhabis are the West’s Geo-Political Tool to create mayhem among Muslims and Non-Muslims Obviously what the British did was to identity how to divide and destroy the Muslims and Wahhabi ideology was the answer. The globalists had found or rather created their geopolitical and militant tool. Today, Wahhabism is being used for various purposes against Muslims and non-Muslims alike. The allegation that Wahhabis are linked to the West is clearly indicated in both US and UK protecting Wahhabis and the fact that it was these Wahhabis who killed innocent Christians in Syria and burnt down the churches. None of the Christians in Syria before the wave of incursions were illtreated by the Assad Government. The West again used Wahhabis in Bosnia and Kosovo under the banner of ‘reconstruction aid’ and these Wahhabis demolished and removed major Islamic monuments but they have not touched any of the Crypto Albanians (those Muslim in the open but practicing Christianity indoors). Damage West-linked Wahhabis are doing to Islam/Muslims It was the British who supported Wahhabi war lord Ibn Saud to legitimize the Saudi dynasty against Uthman Khillafath of Turkey destroying 15 centuries of Islamic heritage, desecrating tombs of the wives and companions of the Holy Prophet. Wahhabis or the House of Saud has been always in cahoots with US, UK and Israel. Iconoclasm for Wahhabis meant that they went on to destroy several holy shrines including Prophet’s house in Mecca and companion Ayoob Ansari’s house in Medina. These are now apartment blocks and hotels while the Prophets wives houses have become parking lot.
