I hate to ruin this special day, but the obvious question has to be asked of these committed Eelamist youth of fighting age. What the hell were they doing from 2006-2009? There was lots of fighting to be done, there were lots of weapons available, there were plenty of boots, but there was never enough willing manpower.
Any of you committed Eezhamists care to answer? (and I really ask this question in a spirit of genuine enquiry).

Once again a few commentators here have dragged this down the racist hole. Behaving like real Godayas and panam kottais’!
This is a remembrance event. Regardless of which side a family member dies, the loved ones should be allowed to grieve. In SL if you happen to be Tamil and a loved one died during the war the government looks at it suspiciously. So they are forced to grieve in secret or abroad.
There is a responsibility incumbent on the organizers of these events. That is to make sure it doesn’t turn into a rally where death is celebrated and young impressionable people are lead down a path of violence.
Just be responsible when you organize and be discerning when you participate.

I think as long as these occasions are accompanied by overt LTTE symbols, GoSL (in its infinite paranoia) will try to prevent it happening. A solution would be to declare an inclusive day of national mourning and repentance, devoid of all military symbolism and acknowledging everyone’s losses.
