Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today declared that he, along with his eldest son, Namal and brothers Gotabaya and Basil will be arrested.
Speaking in Kandy this morning after visiting the Dalada Maligawa, Rajapaksa in reaction to questions over the murder of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen said, “Namal, Gotabaya, Basil, Wimal Weerawansa, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardhana, and Kumara Welgama will all be taken in, and finally they will also take me in.”
The former president cited the economic slump and lack of development as the main reasons why the government was trying to turn the attention of the public into other areas, and hence he was been targeted. “When the economy is falling and they can’t do anything, they try to get the attention elsewhere,” Rajapaksa added.
Rajapaksa also said that he will not resign from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, despite attempts by some within the party to throw him out. “The SLFP is in a strong position today because of me, if not it only had just 56 MPs. I will not resign from the party and it won’t be easy to put me out of the party,” he said.
He also told the reporters if they needed their land dug up for free, to invite him over so that the police will come soon after to dig the land and search for so-called gold owned by him in these properties.
Last week, a land belonging to Major Neville Wanniarachchi, chief bodyguard of Rajapaksa was dug up after the CID received a tip off that gold and firearms belonging to Rajapaksa were buried in the land. Further, according to the CID, Major Wanniarachchi is reported to have acquired several plots of land belonging to the State, during the Rajapaksa era.

It does not matter who fell, whether the LTTE or the Rajapaksas. They are human beings, and your fellow countrymen. When I was in Australia I tried my best to guide the LTTE and the Tamil leaders to save Tamil People and defense forces, but the LTTE’s leadership and the Tamil leaders didn’t listen to me. Between 2010-2012 I also tried my best to guide MR through Sri Lankan High Commission in Ottawa when I was in Canada. But the Rajapaksas didn’t listen to me either. I even wrote to the Chinese leaders through the Chinese Embassy in Wellington when I was in New Zealand. I emphasized to the Chinese leaders how important to guide MR, but nothing happened. The West has done a tremendous job to isolate me. The West makes sure that Asians won’t have access to knowledge. Tamils and Sinhalese couldn’t use my knowledge, because they listen to people who are approved by the West. I don’t think the current government can benefit from my knowledge either. This has to change. Therefore, we need a meaningful ‘Think Tank’ to guide Sri Lankans, especially Tamils. The failure of the LTTE and the Rajapaksas are clear evidence that we need to create a meaningful and effective think tank for Sri Lankans. If we continue to listen to foreign approved leaders we will continue to betray our people.

For prosecutors, all these people are suspects at this stage, and require sufficient grounds to arrest them. Given these suspects, most of them, claim themselves are the true patriots, the job is not going to be so simple.

First of all before talking about him let him explain what he did to the former Army commander Sarath Fonseka and also former chief justice Shirani Bandaranayake. Weren’t Sarath fonseka also arrested in a very disrespectful manner. He too told the same reasons what Rajapakse is telling now, that he was being victimized for contesting against him for Presidency. The former Chief Justice was hauled disrespectfully into a inquiry by a select committee comprising of parliamentarians, she had to also face a court case inquiry as to giving false tax declarations which subsequently she was proved innocent.
Now let us turn to Mahinda Rajapakse. If he has to be arrested he has to be arrested. But there will be no white van and he will not go missing in the same way he did to many. He is like the pussy cat drinking milk with eyes closed believing then others will not know what terrible things he has done. everybody knows what he and his family did and only he does not know others also know.
Ok let him prove his innocence in courts. His son was involved in some Rs 200 million and he was not able to show how he got that amount of money. Certainly it is not a small amount. Rajapakse is accusing political revenge. So when some one connected to high profile politician should get away with Rs 200 million and that is political victimization but someone without high connections for a petty undeclared frozen bank account should get arrested and face charges and that is right.
Here too everyone knew what was happening except Mahinda Rajapakse who was blinded with the power he enjoyed, and no one can hide that amount of money, and officers during his regime was scared to speak out and soon after the Government collapsed (purely because of greed to cling on to power) it came to light. There is no political revenge.
Rajapakse should have realized this while he was President. It is sad to say that it was the power that ruined the Family of Rajapakse and he would now regret it would have been a blessing in disguise had he had lost the Presidential elections.
The officers also got huge favours in return and they are the real beneficiaries and not Rajapakse who is the ultimate loser. As if the educated examiners at the Law College did not know by allowing Namal to sit the exam in an isolated room will only cause serious and long term damage to this young man. They did this only to get personal favours by the President in the short term knowing very well the damage it would cause to his son. The President is a fool who clamours to false glory and got caught and no one respects and recognizes his Law college certificate. He is being ridiculed as a ‘synthetic lawyer’. The only way to mitigate the damage would be for him to re sit the exam if that is allowed.
