The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) today arrested former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage. He was taken into custody when he arrived at the CID office to give a statement.

Initially reports said that he was arrested on fraud charges in connection with a house being constructed by him at Kynsey Road, Colombo 7. Despite requests for verification as to how the former minister amassed wealth to construct a luxury house, he had not been able to provide necessary details in this regard. It is believed that Aluthgamage also owns several other lands in various parts of the country.
Meanwhile despite repeated attempts, police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera was not available for comment to confirm the charges against the ex Minister.

The other incident was when his wife claimed alimony for a massive sum as maintenance based on him vast wealth that he had accumulated in such a short time in politics. Another inglorious legacy of this man, was what happened to all the wealth of the Cricket Board funds. It was all drained out bone dry by this asshole, leaving the national cricketers to play for the country without salaries for just over one whole year. He was arrested this morning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for buying a house worth Rs. 27 million on Kinsey Road, using ill-gotten money. The CID informed court, investigations were yet incomplete.
HE is arrested for embezzling Rs 27 million. but, wife is asking Rs 500 million and Rs 500,000 oper month as dirovce settlement.
So, that is just a grain of sand from what he has stolen. govt is not going that far because that will circle the every politician including prime minister and president.
