Maithri ‘Blinks,’ Yahapālana Govt Set For A Second Innings

With President Maithripala Sirisena imploring the members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) not to quit the unity government, there are signs that the crisis produced by the unprecedented defeat suffered by the ruling UNP-SLFP coalition is nearing its end.

Sirisena is reported to have made this request to a set of SLFP ministers who met him today.

While Sirisena was pushing for a UNP government not led by Ranil Wickremesinghe or else a new government formed with the support of the Joint Opposition, it now appears that neither can materialize.

The anticipated moves within the UNP to oust Wickremesinghe did not happen and neither could the President’s hand-picked choice for the Prime Minister post, Nimal Siripala De Silva, get the numbers needed.

Consequently Sirisena appears to have reverted to what may have been the only choice open to him notwithstanding his rhetoric, that of giving the unity-arrangement with the UNP another go. It is reported that the decision was taken on Sunday (18) when he met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. Accordingly a cabinet reshuffle is scheduled for Wednesday (21), effectively bringing to and end all talk of alternative arrangements.

Wickremesinghe, for his part, although expressing confidence of the UNP going solo in a new administration, appears to have backed down, either because he didn’t have the numbers himself or because the ending of the unity-arrangement was seen as a move that would strengthen the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, the clear victor at the local government elections.

There are unconfirmed reports that several SLFP MPs are to join hands with the Joint Opposition.

As of now, there is no indication that the Opposition Leader’s post will be given to someone from the Joint Opposition, even though its political face, the SLPP, emerged as the undisputed voice of the opposition at the election.

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe ,

RE: Maithri ‘Blinks,’ Yahapālana Govt Set For A Second Innings

Keep batting. Mahinda Rajapaksa and cronies will have to field, i.e., chase your balls for another 2 years. The people will be the umpires and spectators.

“While Sirisena was pushing for a UNP government not led by Ranil Wickremesinghe or else a new government formed with the support of the Joint Opposition, it now appears that neither can materialize.”

“The anticipated moves within the UNP to oust Wickremesinghe did not happen and neither could the President’s hand-picked choice for the Prime Minister post, Nimal Siripala De Silva, get the numbers needed.”

    The emperor has no clothes

Used to express when many people believe something that is not true. Used also to express something as untrue. See also the expression “the Emperor’s new clothes”.

While expressing admiration at their Emperor’s new “invisible” clothes, a small boy cried out… “But the Emperor has no clothes!”

This entire adventure in Sri Lanka has been based on propaganda and manipulation. Former crooks and current crooks are still at large. The national debt is 90% of the GDP, and too much to pay for the continuation of a governance based on falsehoods. The Emperor has no clothes.

Will you finally deliver? Put on your old clothes,, with the old promises.

It is not time for playing party politics by dividing UNP or SLFP. The common & immediate enemy to this nation is Rajapakse & his family. Allowing Rajapakse or giving another chance to Rajapakse means blood in the soil. He wanted to take revenge against 53% of the voters who voted against him. This includes all the Tamils and Muslims and a large number of Sinhalese. Once the Mahinda threat is removed both UNP & SLFP can compete each other with their economic and social policies to govern the nation democratically and peacefully.

“This includes all the Tamils and Muslims and a large number of Sinhalese.”

Large number of Sinhalayo (55%) voted to President Rajapakse. He lost because of ungrateful Demalu, Thambis and Sinhala Toiyas. Despite the support of nearly 50 organizations and millions of Dollars pumped by Western countries President Sirisena did not have a landslide victory. The difference was about 450,000.

In a comment yesterday, I predicted this racist reaction from the Rajapaksa camp – the claim that Mara is the legitimate ruler because a majority of the Sinhalese voted for him.

Those whom “Eagle Eye” refers to contemptuously as “Demalu, Thambis and Sinhala Toiyas” are all citizens of Sri Lanka, and to suggest that they should be deprived of voting rights should be regraded as treasonous.

              Thanthaichelva

Fault is the presence of Tamil Nadu in the close proximity, Northern Tamils have been reluctant to respect Colombo rule with no important reason & the charges of depriving human rights has been far from right.

It’s the strong racial attitude of Tamils supported by mighty Tamil Nadu has created all these problems. It’s their racial attitudes led to unfortunate bad treatment by humble Sinhala Buddhist majority towards Tamils.

However failure of Sinhalese to manage properly the minority issues led to the flow of international sympathy towards them.

Now it’s the SL govt. responsibility to convince international community to reverse their attitudes.

Indeed Amare, non of the corrupt politicians have any cloths. Nimal Siripala is a stupid crook, bad as Mahinda Jarapassa and Bondscam Ranil.

Thought GoSL is broke Siripala as Minister of Transport wants to buy train engines from General Electric for over 4 Miliion USD each. This deal is brokered with Bondscam Ranils’s Foreign advisers at Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) which pretends to give “aid”, aka. Fake Development assistance in an age of Fake News and alternative facts to Sri Lanka. MCC and has been working on a “Compact” for years paying fake and overpriced technical experts to collect Big Data on Lanka for a foreign Deep State with their Fake Development Advisers who draft and control RW’s Debt Trap economic and SECURITY data and policies. The people of Lanka are doomed indeed with “leaders” such as these corrupt and unethical Morons.

Confusion all around; applies to the President as well as the people.
The framers of the present constitution as well as the previous ones have done a poor job. It would be wise not continue this folly and accept that the “locals” are inept at this and get external help instead of being pig headed. The country is broke and in severe debt; to pay it off, we are told will take another 10 to 15 years.
The present Supreme Court seems to have the confidence of the people.
As a temporary measure The President should consult the SC for advice re selection of PM and cabinet and it’s size until the next presidential and parliamentary elections. Perhaps the “Commonwealth or The UN” should be solicited for help in the framing of the “next constitution”.
Hopefully these practical steps might auger political and economic stability.
Enough is enough; time to think outside the box.

So well said Amarasiri! As always known, money is tied up very tightly at the top. Ministers won’t budge from their bank-accounts. Socializable money for the Masses got lost in the bond scam scheme. And No, at this innings, ministers are certainly not going to socialize the wealth tied up in their names, to bring down the debt. It’s going to be even more insider trading, money laundering, market manipulation, tax evasion, embezzlement, and other such horrendous things. Masses are going to be caned and hanged for not producing results. The only thing left to do is for The People to coo them out of parliament. Otherwise there will be mass suffering for a long, long time. On top of that, the country is going to be partitioned into thirds.

Amarasiri – I concur, former crooks and current crooks are still at large. Will the current crooks expedite matters and ensure that Medamulana Meeharaka and his cronies are hung by their balls for all their crimes. Ranilpaksha or for that matter Sillysena should not be a stumbling block to get SF appointed as the Law and Order Minister.

You attacked current president calling him Perethaya…. and all the ugly word few months ago.

Actually he was not smart enough in any moves that suggested by UNP, just being entwined to one loss, he joined the board of anti UNPs. He should have done lot more cornering Rajapakshe.
Today, criminals make jokes on the ones who got elected to fight against high criminals.

There is no better example to the idiom flogging a dead horse than the comedy now in motion in our despicable political landscape. Much of the ill lit electorate is ever willing to be taken for a ride is happy with the packet of rice and Rs.1,000 to sell their individual souls. They think what the country goes through is some sort of carnival. For them more elections the better. What takes the greatest beating is the economy and the country’s image in the league of nations. Even the worst case of the brain dead in the country will admit the biggest casualty in the current nadagam is the economy. The tragedy to come is the economy is moving towards a ticking time bomb. While the so called investments in recent years is in the vicinity of the metropolis and aimed to benefit the rich and the very rich – both local and foreign – most of those downtrodden living in the city and around and in the hinterland live in misery never before known. What we are going for will be worse than what the country endured in the 1971 time – except this time it will not be from the JVP types only. The weakened social fabric of the country is vulnerable for mischief makers to set in motion terrible racial and religious riots flowing into the streets. The Mahanayaka in Kandy wisely warned the political leadership of the country recently of what is likely to ensue. Both sides of the political spectrum are responsible for bringing the country to this stage.
Unless we get our act together Rice will exceed Rs.200kg and the humble Coconut similar. Like what happened in once-wealthy Argentina food riots and extreme social disorder is in the horizon here. Thank our lotus eating politikkas for that.

Well a ‘dead-beat’ president that you call is a better option than a President who will ‘beat-dead’ innocent civilians who opposes his views or his families views. e.g. Lasantha, Thajudeen, Aluthgama victims and the list goes on and on. I will take a ‘dead-beat’ anytime. As for ‘laughing’ the alternative would be ‘crying and wailing’ over the misery that he will bring to innocent civilians. I will take the ‘laughing-stock’ anytime too.

No Wonder Sri Lankans are finding it difficult to grasp this:
        Salaries:
        President – Rs. 97,500
        PM – Rs. 71,500
        Cabinet Minister – Rs. 65,000
        MP – 54,285

“A corruption case filed against former Minister and National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa was yesterday fixed for May 16 by Colombo High Court. High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi made this order regarding an indictment filed against Wimal Weerawansa for the alleged unlawful acquisition of money and assets, estimated at Rs.75 million within a period of six years while serving as a Minister, during the former regime.”

This is peanuts compared to the wealth the Rajapaksa’s collectively hold. The issue is not how rich they are but how did they manage to get there.

A typical case of the Mouse That Roared! Sirisena set up YAHAPALANAYA as an act of treachery against the Sinhalese. The joint conspirators were Sobithaya and Chandrika.of course in addition to the LTTE which funded the operation.
Sirisena survives by the skin of his teeth and is held prisoner by the UNP in collaboration with the LTTE. The gamarala, a man without shame, or self respect
will do anything to remain as President. The rights and interests of the Sinhalese are at stake and mark my words this corrupt government will bleed the country dry. It’s fate is sealed however and is breathing its last.

Without shame! you say all this non-sense. Is there a shred of proof to your theory aside from a few remaining perverted neurons within your skull? Crisis will not end. Because the junta doesn’t have popular support. A band aid is in place that will hobble for the immediate future. Parliament doesn’t reflect the people’s will on the ground. An unprecedented situation in mid term of a govt. Country’s economic, social conditions will continue to slide as a result.

In case if you do not know what junta is here is the definition:
      Junta

      1. a military or political group that rules a country after taking power by force.
      2. a deliberative or administrative council in Spain or Portugal.

Mahinda and his band of corrupt politician as attempt to fool President Sirisena has failed. If Sirisena help the SLFP members with him but supporting Mahinda to form a government with Nimal Siripala, the sleeping doll, then Mahinda should have taken the powers of PM as the default MP. If that happened Sirisena should have created a force he couldn’t control with his limited powers. The best solution is to go with UNP and with the help of UNP members to help him to re-invent a new RW as the country is in need of a very stable government to overcome the present economic problems, and allow SF to become the Minister responsible for Law and Order to help the Members supporting Pohottuwa but in the SLFP to taste the Kalderan rice.

    • 4
      1

That is true. The evil in the UNP is a slightly shade better than the “MaRA DEVIL”. at this critical point of time for the island for want of a better alternative.
BTW is there any significance that can be drawn when it comes to the Lotus in our neighbourhood country and ours.
It is in a bloomed stage in the fresh water there, and our’s is in an Pohutuwa state, in the polluted water here, and likely ever remain so, till it finally rots.

  • 6
    2

The instability in the country was the result of President Sirisena losing to Mahinda Rajapaske. Unfortunately, President got the jitters. In order to shore up the support of the SLFP, without nipping in the bud he succumbed to the pressure put on by JO (bunch of rogues) to get rid of the Prime Minister. That too the original demand was to dissolve the Parliament and go for an election. There was no logic to this request asking the Prime Minister to resign.

Mahinda himself lost as SLPP got less votes than what Mahinda got during the Presidential election. The parties opposed to SLPP, including SLFP, UNP and other parties that opposed got more votes. Further Mahinda does not have the guts to leave SLFP and take membership in SLPP, similarly Sirisena does not have the guts to kick Mahinda out. Now in order to cover up both their weaknesses they went on to attack Ranil. If President Sirisena is honestly interested in Yahapalanaya, which got the red light from the voters, he should think twice before taking any action as he is the head of the Government and the head of the Cabinet. Both UNP and SLFP ministers of the Yahpalana Govt including the President and the Prime Minister should equally take the blame. Its time the Prime Minister and the President reshuffle the cabinet. Most importantly Law and Order ministry and Justice Ministry should be given to two strong individuals. One may be Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka and the other could be a young lawyer who is now a deputy minister. Since Fonseka is not a lawyer a deputy minister with legal background can be appointed to his ministry.

Ranil will survive because unlike President Rajapakse who had guts to turn down the request from those two ‘Para Suddas’ to stop the war President Sirisena does not have guts to go against the ‘Para Suddas’ and Hindians who put him to power through Regime Change’. If he goes against their wishes there is a likelihood that the helicopter President is using have a mechanical failure and crash.

The wimpish Ranil will crack soon when the Rajapakses let loose the goons in the Colombo streets, nonstop, for a few weeks. This half-man crumbled when Chandrika tried his mettle in 2004 – even without the threat of riots in the Streets. Gamarala is interested in only safely securing the looted billions – held in the names of relatives in hotels, rice mills etc. – carefully stolen in the past 25 years. Gamarala knows his good times are coming to an end. He knows not when and where to run although brother Dudley bought Insurance by way of secret deals with Gota – just in case.

I heard, Ranil Wickramsinghe has offered to REsign on the condition that the list of names who got money from the Bond scam be revealed. It says, there names that could never be imagined would involve in a bond scam. In other words, it was fully pre-planned, incase it goes wrong everybody goes. IT looks MY3 can reveal the names without hiding. Another thing is Ravi the LIAR says Ranil said and Ranil RAvi the LAIR and Arjun did MAhendran did it. They are not arresting Arjun Mahendran because he has told every thing he had to say. This is what I understand. maithri made a big mistake in not pushing for a election for leader and deputy leader by all members of the UNP including the rank and file. That way the leadership of the UNP would have been a non issue as the card carryingUNP members themselves have elected their leader.instead our non democratic president who is as bad as the non democratic prime minister, wanted his stooge as the UNP leader, first karu then when that did not get any support ,Nimal siripala.rAre the people interested in these two hacks.can you just ignore 32.5 % of UNPer’s who voted for the UNP especially when you have got only 13.5% who possibly voted for you.Instead of trying to control the UNP the president should have tried to set it on a course that will enhance its 32.5 % to 40%,otherwise when the UNP goes down he will go down with it too his family and he will get killed by gota in an ‘accident’ like thajudeen.Ranil of course will be in a gondola in venice.

It is good that a precedent, whenever a local government election is held the continuance of the entire government should be reviewed automatically based on its results, was avoided. The constitution, which there should always be, good or bad, is the better for it.

We have to buckle down and have the rest of the term run out by Ranil. Let us hope that he succeeds as the alternative is another horrible hora, with white vans and other terrible crimes.
To succeed, Ranil must get rid of (i) his Royal cronies. They do not serve him well. They are royal crooks, who steal with more sophistication than Mahinda’s crowd but steal public wealth nevertheless (ii) ignore the lame duck My3. He just does not have it in him to be President; (iii) try and end corruption in public life (iv) restore public trust in the judiciary and the police; (v) try to end ethnic and religious politics by ensuring that Buddhism has its rightful place but that other religions are allowed space. This is a historical commitment. He must enlist the help of the Buddhist clergy to achieve this and foreclose Mahinda’s advantages in this area (vI) wipe out the heavy and dark taint of corruption that surrounds him by trying Mahendran and Aloysius and crowd. (vii) ditch corrupt ministers. (vii) go easy on constitutional reform. We can make do with what we have . This will become a divisive issue with interminable quibbles as to what federalism is. This sidetracks more important issues like rectifying the economy. (viii) get good economic advice. If it must be from Singapore, get some good honest Chinese advisors .
He simply cannot afford to fail. The fate of the country if he fails would be abysmal.

I think right now the road block is one young female who is caught in this unwittingly. She is comopletely innocent though. She has told “mama hithuwe Amma thamai Eka kare kiyala”. The mother is depressed now and the young female is sort of disoriented.Anyway the mother had said ” nehe duwe, Mama han kaavisayak danne neha, ththatha thamai karanda aththe. Father had scolded UNP saying they are trying to ruin my kelli, and had said, mata hithenawa meva dala APAHU GOVITHANA KARANDA YANDA KIYALA. Son/brother also had said, father stay silent, Only the King can do this kind of thing. Some how Ranil says please write this for me. I am not resigning because the reason is above. That is that very top also got something. but, it is said it is not much but it is enough to sling mud at the person. Both Ranil and Maithripala (????) knew that. I heard, Even RAVI the LIAR’s house had money. but they did not tell it, His Better half had involved in planning and had said ” Api methanta ave nikan angili levakande nevi”. I heard, some time ago, Slueths knew that Ravi was keeping money and they guarded the house saying this is for your protection Sir, but the intention was to keep an eye on money. Money had been hidden even at KIA in planes but no one knows even PAranavithana or Wedikkarayan too won’t be able to find money. Mangala Samraweera is taking benefit of that and says, I knew it. That is why I kept distance. HE has writteen pges of notes on that and he has it. I STILL SAY PRESIDENT ACCEPT THE VISSICITUDE OF FORTUNE (ATA LOW DAHAMa) and tell what has happened to the community who are very compassionate, understanding and forgivng, and move on. I am pretty sure Ravi the LIAR knew in advnace that the president was caught that was why he was making fun of President in a few places.. That is my opinion.

Sirisena’s dilemma is that his partnership with Ranil is going to destroy him. The country does not trust him, Ranil has realised that Sira is there just for the glamour of the Presidential position which has shoe horned him into the wealthy class. All the wealth acquired at the taxpayers expense, viz commissions, bribes, and other nefarious means. The gamarala is revelling in this role and he has no personal qualities that make him deserve the position of Pres of SriLanka. He is no leader, was never a man of ideas, does not have a political philosophy. In short he got into politics to serve himself not the country.
Ranil’s dilemma is that although intellectually endowed, his policies are not based on the aspirations of a people who are heirs to a great heritage. He is doomed to failure and his real political self has only been recently exposed by the bond scam.and he stands naked devoid of all the gear he had worn to conceal his real self.Heis a baptised Christian but will not admit it openly, instead pretends to be a Buddhist wearing pirith nool etc but gets back home and prays to his god.
His political life has passed its peak and is living on borrowed time, that is time bought with the money from the Tamil diaspora and the LTTE rump.Yahapalaya is terminally ill and palliative care is not going to reduce the pain.

I won’t reply to each and every comment as some of them contradict each other.

However this hyporisy about crooks needs to be seen for what it is, a pickpocket shouting to draw attention from himself, and a political weapon like human rights.

Obviously the population does not care about corruption except to hammer the other party. Why didnt everyone vote for the JVP then?

The other hypocrisy is that the Rajapakes are the enemy. They were not the enemy when prosecuting the war. Let the people decide who is the enemy.

With enemies like that we don’t need friends.

The good news is the dangerous Political crisis and uncertainty is over. What is now expected by the country at large is “Good governance” in deed NOT in words. Most importantly, Action against the Crooks, past and present, and some positive development on the Economy. Get to work Fast, President and PM. For God’s sake, Don’t give any 2nd chance to the CROOKS who not only robbed but also stood in the way of meting out Justice to the Thieves and Robbers.

A Clean and Productive Administration is the URGENT Need of the country and if that is delivered, you can be assured of another term. Otherwise, your parties and the country will be Hell bound come 2020.

“Baya Nathi Agamathi” Dr Ranil, pulled it off again.
Boru President not only F****** Up the mighty old SLFP destroying its vote base , but also drove Banda’s Daughter to East London.
    And put Horogolla on sale.
She must be feeling gutted ,after doing all that hard work to get the LTTE Diaspora to help the President and keeping the opportunistic and unelected SLFP members on leash to prop up the cousin from Batalanda.
Hoping that Batalanda Cousin will pave the way for the last two Banda genes to rule the Dalits.
Pottu supporters must welcome this latest Dr Rail come back.
Sampathar was ridiculing the ex Prez that he didn’t get even 45 %.
And Sampathar even threatened that the next Tiger Pira will blossom through the Lotus Pod.
Watching Sampathar in his element looking like just after a double dose of those Blue Tablets, and delivering these threats , I wondered whether this Baya nathi Dr is so powerful ?
To give Sampathar his Vellala Eelaam which Sampathar demanded from Dr Ranil even on the eve of the Election..
Will the impotent Sillisena’s SLFP servants in Parliament give Dr Ranil the 2/3rd to please the Vellala, Sampathar and Suren Surendran?..

    Actually I am a teetotaler.
The issue I was trying to indicate/highlight here is the the unending conflict within the ruling crooks which is pulling the country apart. Rather than managing the country’s affairs in its best interest the crooks are tearing it for the sake of their own interest.

I am sure you would have realised long ago that the enemy was/is not the Hindians, the west, the terrorists, the separatists, the TNA, ……the capitalists, the socialists, the Buddhists, the Hindus, the Christians, the Muslims, the Vellalas, the Sinhalese, the Tamils, neo liberals, Washington Consensus, globalisation, ……. rather the enemy is within, the home grown crooks who compete first to destroy the country and then share the spoils.

It is understandable it is what they live for.
However what has been the regular feature of this island is the stupid people’s unique behaviour, masochism, who not only vote for them but expect the crooks to spring miracles.

As you would have learned in your life time crooks have many ways of creating conflict and none to solve them. They move on to create the next one when they get the first opportunity.

Be warned enemy is within. I am sure you are old enough to know it.

I don’t depend on “Black & White”; “Johany Walker” or our own “GAL” to enlighten me however I look up to my Elders for inspiring “Wisdom”.

It is not about who blinked first but about waking up to reality of managing a coalition government of roughly equal partners.
We are disappointed that MS/RW failed us in not addressing corruption, nepotism etc.
But look at the potential successors!

President! Should have taken this stand 10 days ago preventing a hugh down fall in country”s economy. Now clean up the Cabinet, bring honest ministers, professionals, experts of the highest calliber to advise and administer the Country. People will vote to such a set up at the end of two years with confidence.

Native Vedda, you win on this. Blame shifts to LTTE, mosques, kovils, churches and temples, India, China and West. The fraudsters and murderers are all one gang, robbing and sharing the spoils most of which they will never enjoy in peace here or attain ‘nivan’ Their greed and competition makes them blind to the ground reality that they got a chance to build and bless the next generation, but losing it fast.
Look at the destruction Prez. did to SAITM in his panic for PM to fall into his stronghold of private meds. like JRJ and NCMC. Now we need another Premadasa to nationalize and get these students in the same stream as “state meds.” But now comes every agenda which keeps delaying students. Deaf, dumb, blind, impotent.

Native Vedda: Thank you. In the midst of “Turmoil” and “Problems”, I meant to crack a joke and get relaxed so that common sense prevails. I know you very well understand my style of that relaxation in reading some of my comments. I do agree, that the enemy is no where else, but within ourselves. Just look at the,(both in Government and Opposition) JOKERS who make statements in the Legislature and outside to misinform and mislead the people. On the other hand, the biggest JOKERS are our own people who “LISTEN” and “DIGEST” all the muck fed into them and turn out in large numbers to give support to all KNOWN and PROVEN crooks and criminals to administer the country. The real ENEMY, therefore is very active WITHIN. Please note, my reference to intoxicants, never meant to elicit your personal tastes and distastes. Cheers.

There is a saying that ” In a democracy the people get the Government, they deserve”. See what happened after the last General election. President Sirisena , split the SLFP and with his faction joined the UNP.
In doing so, he ended the TWO party system that existed since Independence. The end result was that the UNP became the only Major Party with a depleted opposition. The people were at the mercy of a strong party in power and a depleted opposition in Political disarray. Dishonest Politicians took their chance and robbed the wealth of the vey people who voted them in . They call it the BOND SCAM. It will take many years to repair the damaged Economy. Sri Lanka must have two MAJOR parties at all times and a repeat of 2015 has to be avoided. In the West they say ” keep the Bast—-ds, honest”. Vote wisely.

Its time to look forward to what happens in the future. We all have dissected the political scene enough. The first action would be the appointment of the new cabinet. Once we get the names we will know the direction of the Government. Will it be the same old style or will it be a bold new move to deliver the election promises?

All these maneuvers by our bunch of politicians are aimed at only one outcome – to enjoy the perks of the best “job” in the world – namely, that of a Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Finally, different members of the same bunch will come to “power” and, this farce will go on.

A lot of people are bringing BREXIT and Cameron’s departure to argue about a change in Premiership. That is a different nation and a mature democracy where not much in terms of privileges and perks are at stake. Also those people are all educated people not just people with Olevel or Alevel who are clamouring for a change. Yes if this election were a referendum then it spoke. But if you look at it from a different perspective, the SLFP is the one which got beaten the most. So if logically we argue for the PM’s ouster, should we not also argue for the President to step down?

Best thing now is to continue the coalition government to reduce the level of instability and uncertainty. But if the Government really wants to test its mettle, let it also call for provincial council elections. If not, please let the government be for now. 2020 is not far off. Let the people decide. As for those perks and privileges, I sometimes wish I were a politician back in SL for just one term. I also want to feel pompous and important and go about with 3 cars and STF commandos and strut like a peacock ; don’t care if that is from the SLFP, UNP or SLPP or SLMC or TNA. I just badly want to be celebrity for a day.. (joking of course people)

Our politicians – from all sides, shades and colours – are playing true to the very letter of the Sinhala village saying “handa athe nam, bedaganilla” (If the ladle (large spoon) is in your hand, s erve yourself well) Our hench aiyas are doing an excellent job.
