It was President Mahinda Rajapaksa who stood by SLFP come hell or high water.
The black swan Sirisena the traitor, who defected SLFP, conspired with the rival UNP and contested against the then legitimate Chairman of the SLFP, President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is now lecturing Mahinda of the history of the party, unity of the party and the seniority of the party. Shouldn’t someone give a good smack across this man’s face?
Sri Lanka’s most brilliant leader Mahinda Rajapaksa become the President, not by chance but by years and years of sheer hard work, by being deeply loyalty to the party and most importantly by genuinely winning the hearts of people.
Sirisena, the man who couldn’t even kill a mosquito (dengue) become the President not by merit, talent or hard work but through a cheap conspiracy by abusing the good heart of his unsuspecting leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. Sirisena doesn’t have a single party supporter by himself. All the jokers around him are just pretending as his men, for personal gain.
Therefore, this letter has zero worth. Sirisena doesn’t have an ethical right to talk about the SLFP. This letter should be thrown to the fire place.

Please don’t sit long hours as your grey matter may get squashed.
How could you say ” Most brilliant leader” to someone who admitted (without remorse just to hoodwink the poor masses to get back in to power) that he protected wrong doers?
During his time “Lasantha, Eknaligoda, Killing of protesters at Chilaw, Katunayake, Rathupaswela, White vans, Thajudeen” . No impartial inquiry.

It wont be a surprise if Mahinda does stand for the Southern Provincial Council Election. He will grab corruption at any scale.
From multi billion dollar international corruption he will engae in small time rupee corruption.
Honest and genuine leaders of a Nation retire gracefully from politics and public life if they are defeated in the democratic process.
Does John Major or Tony Blair think of standing for the council election in the Stock Broker belt or inner city Brent?
Does George Bush, what ever his short coming is, think of standing for election as Governor of California after losing the Presidential election.
Even in India leaders gracefully accept when the people of the country reject them for the high office and refuse to satnd for the low office.
Only shameless Mahinda can stoop so low

Here is a Summary of the letter
Maithri reiterates that Mahinda would not be appointed PM
President Maihripala Sirisena has sent a letter containing 5 pages to the candidate of the UPFA for Kurunegala Disrict Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The letter states even if the UPFA receives a majority number of seats at the forthcoming general election, the prime ministerial post should go to a senior Politician in the SLFP who has not been appointed to the post of premier before.
President Sirisena names Messrs. Nimal Siripala de Silva, John Amaratunga, Athawuda Seneviratna, Susil Premajayanth and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa as SLFP seniors who could be appointed to the post.
Very Good. It is very good for Mahinda Rajapaksa, his cronies and shills and those who vote for Mahinda Rajapaksa, that Mahinda Rajapaksa will not be Prime Minister. Now they can go fishing.

This is a summary in English:
http://www.island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=129928
It may not be a word for word translation, but it does give us the gist after getting which we can work out the details in the not very clear scanned Sinhala document.
This is a fuller version but I’m sure an authoritative text will emerge within hours:
http://newsfirst.lk/english/2015/08/president-sirisena-writes-to-mahinda-rajapaksa-contents-of-letter-revealed/106986
I find comments such as those of the dogmatic “bo” below hilarious. He tries to demonstrate his “patriotism” (that last refuge of the scoundrel) by ridiculing those who have difficulty reading the original Sinhala. Typical of those with a smattering of English, he makes the comparison with an Englishman! An Englishman is usually so insular that he knows only English – a language, which owing to accidents of history, has become the most wide-spread language in the world. Please work it out from there. Many Tamil-speaking Sri Lankans cannot read Sinhalese. Some “Sinhalese people” are genuinely more fluent in English than in what we designate as our Mother Tongue. It is time that we faced reality.
And that reality is that we have an admirable and most articulate President in Maithri who feels no need to pretend that he has total fluency in English. He would probably be the first to agree that there should be Tamil and English versions of this letter.
We need Peace in this country more than all else. There are TWO official languages in this country – according to the Constitution, as far as I can make out:
http://www.priu.gov.lk/Cons/1978Constitution/Chapter_04_Amd.html
Someone may come up with a learned argument which contradicts what I have stated. I just can’t be bothered with pettifogging. Also, the practicalities of the matter are that English has special uses in Sri Lanka. Ask the average guy walking on the street. The problem is that we haven’t taught English to everybody in Sri Lanka (admittedly an extremely difficult task) allowing pretentious guys like “bo” to insult others. Contrast the uses of this language, which everybody wants to learn, with the status of Spanish or Chinese or Swahili.

“There are TWO official languages in this country – according to the Constitution, as far as I can make out:”
Though the constitution was written in 1978 Tamil became another national language in 1988 with 13th Amendment, only after Hindian’s heavy involvement, directly and covertly.
On books Sinhala was the only official language between 1956 and 1988. It took 32 years of heavy destruction and forgone development and peace for the Sinhala/Buddhist racist establishment to change its mind. Hindians had to force JR to bring about the changes in official language policy. It took Hindians another 21 years to stabilize this island.
The Sinhala/Buddhist establishment yet to learn how not to make the same stupid mistakes of the past and ruin the country again. Dayan Silva desperately wants to be part of the Sinhala/Buddhist establishment. Hence he comes up with another divisive catchphrase, Smart Patriotism. It is more of smart ass patriotism than an call for inclusiveness which we lost since the advent of Anagarika Dharmapala’s (homeless one) Aryanism or may be qualification to join Hitler’s fan club.

/
sun / August 14, 2015
It is not untruth to say that they have lost their mother tongue. When you are fully adpated to an another langague you automatically forget your closeness to your parents native langague. This is common to anyone not only sinhalese. But not to forget within the country there are sinahalese that speak English to see above -show off them among the others. They feel being able to communicate in English is equally considered as them to be seen as ” educated”. Latter is fully wrong, if it should be right all those speak English in the UK should belong to the educated category. Is not it ?

English Translation of President Maithripala Sirisena’s letter to Mahinda Rajapakse
Dear Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse,
I am writing this letter to you as the president of UPFA , 07 months after you were defeated at Jan 08 presidential poll as the leader of UPFA which had won 04 presidential & parliamentary polls during last 02 decades.
Both you & I started national politics from SLFP, You became President twice thanks to loyal SLFP supporters but I became President in a different way. It was by giving leadership to public opinion rising against you throughout the country & there by retaining the country’s Presidency you lost with SLFP again. The secret behind my success in getting the support of opposition parties & organizations was my unbreakable, heartfelt bond with SLFP.
Losing an election tastes very sour . But SLFP’ers did not taste sour in Jan 08 electoral defeat contrast to 1777 & 2001 defeats, because it was I who was SLFP member for 48 years & it’s general secretary for 13 years , defeated you. So I protected all SLFP’ers from any post election violence. I challenge you to imagine the consequences if somebody other than Maithripala Sirisena defeated you at that election. I reiterate that I have given political protection to all SLFP MP’s, Local council members & activists. Further you should think what would have been the consequences of SLFP from elected members to activists in village level if I dissolved parliament soon after I assumed presidency on Jan 08
Can you forget that I stood by you during your long journey until you became President in November 2005 ? . I don’t see any reason for you to forget the effort I made to make you Prime Minister after 2004 general election. At that time I stood by you when Wimal Weerawansa, with the full force of JVP was sabotaging your effort to become PM . Even when you had many obstacles to become SLFP presidential candidate in 2005 I stood by you & those who are now getting comfort under your shade were negotiating at that time with Ranil Wickremasinghe on cabinet portfolios after his electoral victory.
As you are aware , Basil Rajapakse’s unacceptable acts & behaviour too had an impact on breaking our longstanding friendship as 02 SLFP stalwarts. His attempt kick me out of politics by showing me as a bankrupt politician ended up only after it boomeranged on all of you. I thought you had the decency to intervene to stop Basil Rajapake’s continued barrage on me , but you could not show that until I became common presidential candidate on 21st November.
The reason for me to reiterate that you should not contest this general election when we met each other during last 7 months & during the telephone conversation I had with you just 2 days prior to signing you nomination papers for Kurunegala district , was because I was ready to give leadership to election victory. But I lost that opportunity after you signed nomination papers. I could have gathered the support of Tamils, Muslims, Civil society, Urban middle class, professionals , new generation youth, those who ensured my victory at last presidential election, back to SLFP, if you did not contest this election.
I did not want to keep you out of politics even though I was against your candidacy at this election & I proposed a honourable political future for you within a constitutional frame work. I know most of your family members agreed to it. You rejected it because you had become a prisoner of small political parties UPFA who had no love for SLFP. They just wanted to get a seat in parliament through your electorate. You should take the responsibility for these smaller groups & factions’ grip on giant SLFP which ran this country for 35 years out of 64 years of proud history of the party. It’s very pathetic to see our party seniors have become sitting ducks in front of these political opportunists in district preferential vote race. The authority given by you to these smaller factions / groups who cannot survive in politics without SLFP, to decide the SLFP’s future path should come to an end.
Founding father of SLFP , Hon. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was pragmatic enough to include people with social stature ,likes of Bernard Aluvihare, Bathudeen Mohamud & Thangaraga among the first office bearers of the party to fully reflect the multi-racial & multi-religious social reality of our country. Though SLFP was considered to some extent a racial & religious in 1956 , thereafter , especially under the leadership of Sirima Bandaranaike & Chandrika Kumaratunge SLFP became a progressive democratic secular party representing all the racial, religious, social groups in Sri Lanka. But during last 09 years under your leadership this party became anti-secular & against social reality in Sri Lanka. Didn’t you see the very extremism unleashed by you caused your election defeat on 08 January ? In other wards SLFP is becoming a party of Sinhala Buddhists which not good for a great party like SLFP. I have the challenge to rescue SLFP from extremism & to make it a party for all Sri Lankans. Yet , people surrounding you unleash racism, just to be ahead in preferential votes & they are not SLFP’ers ,they should not be allowed to run the party.
When you were president of the country , you repeatedly told that there are no minorities or majorities in this country, but you uttered racial remarks most of the time from the beginning of last presidential elections up to your newspaper interview on 12th August 2015, beside that those spoke on your behalf did the same. This is against Buddhism you & I practice & against all the religions , philosophies. Further I reiterate again that we could have certainly won 17th August election , if I gave leadership to campaign when all Tamil, Muslim citizens had utmost trust in me.
At a time when we should look for unity , secularism, pluralism & to face challenges of 21st century successfully, it’s crime against party & the country to seek petty political gains by unleashing extremism. As the leader of the party when we faced the division of party as your faction wanted to give nominations separately from SLFP I had to retreat & allowed you to contest.
You have robbed the dignity of the party and the freedom of the people for you to remain in power forever, You took away the political future of those who toiled and sweated for the party for you to remain in power forever. One of the seniors in our party would have become a President and another a Prime Minister if you retired on the completion of two terms of office as former President
It seems that you are trying to deprive these opportunities to the senior members of the party even after this election. Don’t they deserve their position al least now? If UPFA gets minimum 113 seat s after this election I think another SLFP senior should get the opportunity to become Prime Minister. The real strength of our party is that it’s only our party which has several leaders with political foresight, maturity who can hold the position of Prime Minister. I appeal that you show the people your support, blessings, generosity to select one out of senior leaders like Nimal Siripala de Silva , John Seneviratne, Chamal Rajapakse, Athauda Seneviratne, A.H.M.Fowzie, Susil Premjayanth & Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to be the Prime Minister.
It is hilarious how you approach each and every temple in the country and how you obtain publicity for such events since your defeat on January 8. I am very well aware of how you behaved and how you thought during the period beginning from January 26, 2010 to November 21 of 2014. I have serious reservations whether your constant presence at temples has created serene thoughts in your mind because It has been reported that the discussions you have held with the party members at personal level have shown your hatred, egoism and malice.
I appeal you to act intellectually without giving into emotions for the benefit of the party and the country until election day & not to fan the flames of racism . Then only UPFA will be able to secure more seats in Parliament.
Sgd.
Maithripala Sirisena
Chairman, SLFP

b) the reality that the UPFA- ( of which Sira is he leader)- will win is making Sira do silly things.

Certainly not, even for me it took some 4 hours to translate this, word by word & still I see some grammatical mistakes in translation, because I did not have time to read it again, since I was in my office , not at home but I wanted to rush it since what matters was time.
I did it for CT readers who could not read Sinhala, on the other hand I saw Sinhala PDF given by CT had missed one page, so I did not translate that but it’s still okay, since it does not make much of a difference. So I hope my effort was fruitful.
As for President I don’t think he wrote 05 pages, he might have told what to write & gone through the script & signed. I have nothing to do with any politician & i am like any one of you.

Shame on MR as Myhtree has once again reiteratated his position very clearly. If he is not offered the PM’s position is he going to be a cabinet minister in the event UPFA wins which is very unlikely. In which case he would be an opposition backbencher.
Further, the style and substance of MR’S campaign has been based only on a communal line. Having been President for two terms he should have quit politics for good But greed for power has taken pride of place.

MS is a mysterious man. Timing of this statement is very crucial. There is no time for MR to a public reply before Monday’s elections to this statement due to constraints put by election laws. MR has so far led the campaign bravely for the UPFA for a possible victory and MS is aware of this. With this statement he has knowingly tried to create disunity among the seniors of the SLFP and confusion among the SLFP ground supporters to ensure the UPFA does not gain a absolute majority. He wants his so-called national govt: to please the UNP despite the people wanting to vote for and install a UPFA govt. He must bow to majority opinion. By releasing this statement to the media which is an internal matter for the SLFP, MS has done great harm to the party he is chairman of. He must realize that MR has led this campaign to victory in spite of MS’s leg pulling. He must also realize that he himself would not have been able to lead the party to victory on his own.

This was an inquiry in to the atrocities allegedly commited at the behst of the political powers at the time. The name is Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe also appointed a convicted criminal as the justice of the peace..
The second and important name that surfaces is an ex-president who was found guilty of corrupt deals for personal gain and was ordered a fine of Rs 2000,0000/ soon after her presidency ended.

Sirisena has very clearly accepted that Mahinda is going for an astounding victory. Hence, the letter.
Mahinda should throw this letter to the trash bin. That is the only place this type of crap belongs to.

You say “.. rajavassa intent of robbing the poor sri lankans..”
Are you referring to Ranil and his daylight robbery of the Central Bank and that colossal 7200 billion rupees of loss to our poor economy?

Rajavassas: Mahinda rajapakse, gotabaya basil namal whole family and the clan (wimal susil) who are depending on public tax payer money to feed thier families and rob for generations.
Also I want to mention this. We did not have freedom under rajavassas. Our land was taken without informing us without paying compensation. Rajvassas wanted to take our personal properties if we have anything against them. You idiot champas(braindead thieves ) are still in Sri Lanka. Thats why rajavassa ate least get few votes. Rajavassas never won a free and a fair election. at least we can say thier are more intelligent people in Sri Lankan thant idiot unedcated CHIMPANZEES oops sorry champas.

I still didn’t get your point because there is no argument in your comment. I understand “English words”. What I meant was your ‘point’. Too bad you are not intelligent enough to understand ‘my point’.
For your information, I am IMMUNE to ‘name calling’, ‘insults’ and ‘humiliation’. Therefore your efforts in following the footsteps of Sirisena and Ranil are fruitless with regard to me.
My great leader former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is our role model for patience, tolerance, compassion and tremendous fortitude. I follow him to the dot.
I have no objection for you to follow me.

If you think Mahinda Jaravassa is a great leader you are mistaken. may be you are another village idiot who lives in Hamabantota or Kurangala who has no experience about the outside world.People like you are called “FROGS IN THE WELL” We need a idiot of a uneducated person to defeat LTTE because that person who is uneducated will not bound by international laws. This person cannot develop a country.
If you think Norochcholai Power Plant is development you are still living in the 16th century. Coal power is not a feasible solution to our energy problems. With the money spent (robbing billions) we should have a environmental friendly solar power plant.
I don’t need to mention about mattala airport or port or cricket stadium in south. All unfruitful projects which harmed the environment and loss bearing institutions. Under your STUPID GREAT LEADER all government institutions were run at a loss. And if you idiots think we needed another air line just to mark the idiots name then you are so stupid that you need a good knock in your head to wake up from your underworld gangsta mafia style living.
Also all institutions which should be independent were destroyed by this Gas GEmba(tree frog).
There was no law. Execution of the law had become a ‘grand illusion’. It was a fake, a make believe, a falsehood.
And if there are people who still think Mahinda and the dumb shit of clan is still great please get psychiatric help or migrate to a country like NORTH KOrea.DUMB SCUM BAG!

“Sirisena should step down gracefully.”
I would have thought that the call to step down gracefully should be made to Mahinda and his criminal fraternity.
Mahinda is on a mad mission to humiliate himself. I feel sorry for his b***s carriers.
“We are sending a Lion to lead a pack of lions.”
Where did you find them, the starving lions from the zoo? Did you import the pack from Disney land? Did you collect them from McDonalds when you bought happy meals for kiddies?

Oh I forgive you, you don’t understand because you are not a Sinhalese. Lion pack consists of Sinhalese. There is a lion living in the heart of every Sinhalese.
You say “…I would have thought that the call to step down gracefully should be made to Mahinda and his criminal fraternity….”
Mahinda did accede defeat gracefully on January 8. But as from January 9 people were begging, crying and pleading him to come back. The entire country miss him. We miss his towering personality. We miss his powerful voice. We miss his white national dress and maroon ‘satakaya’. We missed all his development projects in the country. We lost our National Anthem. We almost lost our National Flag. Now we are going to lose a part of our country in the north. There is no way we let this continue. Enough is enough. There was no way Mahinda resist people’s unyielding request to come back. We were crossing our fingers until July 1. Finally he confirmed officially. The entire country breathed a sigh of relief. Doesn’t it sound like and epic tale?
People have moved forward. For nearly 7 months Ranil couldn’t prove a single allegation against Mahinda. Ranil has even stopped talking about it.

“We lost our National Anthem. We almost lost our National Flag. Now we are going to lose a part of our country in the north.”
What your saying amounts to hate speech and is punishable ,where and when did we lose the national flag or the national anthem? none has been lost infact the flag and the anthem is more strong among all communities after My3 became president of all communities !
You make me laugh when you say North is going to be lost

You don’t know the meaning of ‘hatred’. There is no ‘hatred’ in my comment. If you want to know what is hatred, please listen to the speeches of Sampanthan, Vijayakala, Ponnambalam and Vinayagamoorthy Janagan.
Of course we lost our National Anthem and almost lost our National Flag.
We lost the originality of our National Anthem the day Sirisena decided to “remix” it to please separatists.
We almost lost our National Flag when Ranil appointed a Committee to look for an alternative flag to use for official and national events. I said “almost” because Ranil couldn’t continue the process as a result of the vehement opposition from our gallant patriot Wimal Weerawansa.
As I said, we are going to lose North & East too, for separatists who made an internal matter internationalized.
As former President Mahinda Rajapaksa very clearly stated in “Rathu Ira” TV programme on “Swarnavahini” on August 13th, over 100 million Tamils all over the world are unfairly trying to ‘interfere’ with the only State belonging to 15.2 million of Sinhalese.
There are over 100 million of Tamils in the world while the entire world has only around 15.2 million Sinhalese. So who is the minority in Sri Lanka? The answer is Sinhalese.
Tamils are not a minority in the world. They have over 100 million Tamils behind them and many countries with Tamil speaking people who uphold their Tamil culture same as in the North of Sri Lanka, to live if they want to. Sinhalese is a ‘minority’ in the world, who don’t have any other country with Sinhalese speaking people. Sri Lanka is their only country in the world. Sinhalese have been living with Tamils, Muslims and Burghers in unity for centuries.
(Brilliant argument President Mahinda Rajapaksa. I love you so much for coming forward to save our Sinhalese nation. Your name will be written in Gold in our History as the greatest Statesman who saved Sinhalese from being another Palestinians).

ramona therese fernando / August 14, 2015
Nonsense, if Rajapaksa seemed undemocratic, it was a necessay-undemocracy, done for the betterment of the masses, and a solidifying of Lankan sovereignty.
Sirisena on the other hand – now his is a case of deliberate democracy-death, for a very obscure reasons towards Sri Lankan sovereignty.….if for any.
The intended Indian land-bridge would destroy our sovereignty as a nation, so soon after Northern 30-year old terrorism. Gross attachment to a land that the North was clamouring to attach itself to, at the demise of Lanka-Unity, is the final solution of UNP politics.
If Rajapaksa wins and is not installed as PM, it will certainly be at the expense of the democratic tradition on Sri Lanka, and a blight to democratic action world over.

John,
“The President states that if the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) obtains 113 seats, the minimum number required for forming a government, at the forthcoming General Election, then the Prime Minister should be a senior member of the party who has not received the opportunity so far.
In the strongly-worded letter, he also states that if in some way the UPFA is unable to obtain 113 seats, he could intervene as the Executive President in order to obtain the remaining seats required to form a government.”
http://www.adaderana.lk/news/31956/president-sirisena-sends-urgent-letter-to-rajapaksa#disqus_thread
Senior or otherwise, Rajapaksa is head of UPFA. People would be voting for him, and not some obscure senior member. It is to be democratically accepted.

Looks like if no single party ( UPFA or UNP) wins a clear majority the PM would be neither Ranil nor Mahinda. However Mahinda is on a better wicket because UPFA has a better chance of winning a majority than UNP if MS does not throw any more spanners into the UPFA campaign. I hope Ranil has got the message that he cannot be sure of being PM if his party does not win a clear majority.

Those who brought him up and left fallen are departing him today. Ambalangoda Rukada is what instantly comes to my mind to describe the situation of former Pres Fate to date. I really dont think many would support him – but we never know since the voters consist of all walks of life- most that cant get it easily will further support him for one single reason his term terminated LTTE terror within the Island.

It is unlikely that the UPFA will win enough seats to govern and the blame for this should go to Rajapaksa and his cronies. Without Rajapaksa contesting the UPFA had a chance to unite under Sirisena and win but now there is a very good chance that the UNP group will win enough seats to govern without the backing of the TNA or the JVP.
If the UPFA fails to win enough seats Rajapaksa will not remain in the parliament as a back-bencher. His contribution to the UPFA will have been to deny victory for the UPFA and causing the split in the SLFP.The damage will last a long time. The rotter will leave parliament and enjoy his perks and status as an ex-president. Selfish bas**rd!

Have no doubt, Mahinda is definitely winning and forming a government on his own. Defeating UPFA and paving the way for a victory for Ranil was Sirisena’s dream. Mahinda’s return shattered his dream.
Mahinda Rajapaksa never fight losing battles. He is gaining a stunning victory.
/
SL-Walah / August 13, 2015
SLFP should win the Election to defeat Ranil in particular who is a traitor as long as one could remember that works with the West and in the interest of the Tamils. Mahinda should win his seat but he should be relegated to no more than a simple MP while Sirisena appoints a suitable candidate with integrity and the experience who possesses Presidential qualities. Mahinda should be closely watched if he is to be an ordinary MP. He cannot be trusted and has no capacity to fill in even as an astute Minister. His son’s should be banned from politics and any offenses they have committed in the past must be thoroughly investigated and reprimanded accordingly as a precedent setting for the others.

Dear Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse: This is what you call “Illang Parippu Keme”(in my local slang terms; but explains every thing very explicitly) Also you know this village saying: “Allapu Attat Nehe, Payagahapu Attat, Nehe” ( lost the branch of the tree you hanged and also the branch you put the feet). The first “Branch” you hanged on to was that “Foursome” – (Wimal,Vasu,Dinesh and Udaya) who “INDUCTED” you as the “GOD’S GIFT” to the nation and the country at the “Nugegoda Sermon”. Then came the “Nomination Drama” enacted by the whole “GANG” of publicly identified corrupted and criminally defamed politicians who served you like SLAVES during you regime. As per the contents of this letter to you from the President, you did neither listen to him nor to your own family members. The contents of this letter from the president is nothing but an “ECLOGUE”,but not what we generally hear from the Pastor.
So what do you do now? Perhaps, some of those who brought you to this level would “ADVISE” and “INSTIGATE” to revert back to those Madamulana Mafia style tactics. If that happens and you resort to such please note you will be DIGGING YOU OWN GRAVE. This President is much more than what you and I thought. Now is the real TEST of your capacity and character. My advice to you: Say thank you and RETIRE in DIGNITY. You have a LOT TO GAIN by such a gesture because the FUTURE after 18 August 2015 does not predict any “FORTUNE” in your “Birth Chart”. Ask your “Royal Astrologer”; this time he will tell you the TRUTH. Good Luck.

Don’t waste your time on advising the imminent winner Mahinda Rajapaksa to ‘retire’ just 4 days before the victory. Are you out of your mind?
You should have directed your pathetic request to Ranil, who lost 29 times already. Sri Lankans are very generous. Ranil must be waiting to make the odd number an even number before going for the retirement.

It looks like President has done his home work and found that SLFP/UPFA
will have the highest no of MPs. The PM, whom the President will select
will be only a puppet PM and he will act as the mediator between the President and MR., as, if MR becomes a minister in the cabinet, he will
run the show, by force if necessary. PM will sit on the right side of the President and MR will sit on the left side of the President.
It is useless crying over spilt milk as it is the president who made
MR’s come back due sheer negligence and poor intelligence and he should give way. Wasted his time on the four paged love letter to MR , instead, he should have come on the TV and the media and explained what kind of person, people should vote for .
President did a somersault once and nothing could prevent a second somersault.? He is the much watched man today for twists and turns in

A majority of commentators here are not objective. Please don’t muddle your reasoning based on the anger that you have for either MS or MR.
Whatever we say about the outcome of elections, voters would decide and elect the person they want as the Prime Minister.
What is important is to analyse the content; its timing and the real purpose? This letter is written by the President of the country, just before democratic elections, to the leader of a political alliance contesting the election and without sending that letter – “private and confidential” but releasing to the media, for all and sundry to know.
Is this acceptable? Is this in accordance with “good governance”? How does it reflect on the author – the President of Sri Lanka; the Head of the Government and the first Citizen of Sri Lanka?
Are Sri Lankans trail blazers? In my living memory, I have never read a letter like this. This letter would be a “First” from the nation that elected the world’s first woman as the Prime Minister.
Interesting times are ahead of us. Hope all of us commenting could keep our sensibilities in check and engage in a fruitful dialogue.

Sirisena himself speaks “I appeal you to act intellectually without giving into emotions for the benefit of the party and the country until election day & not to fan the flames of racism . Then only UPFA will be able to secure more seats in Parliament”. This applies to the president himself as he is playing to his emotions and not acting as he should as a leader of a country and of a political party. Though he refuses to see there is a definite threat of instability after elections if we do not have a strong leader to meet the separatist threat. This is not fanning racism but reality which one must be aware of.
