Maithri’s Daughter Chathu Kicks “Own-Goal” With Daddy’s Powers

President Maithripala Sirisena‘s daughter Chathurika has turned his passionate pledge of putting an end to nepotism and family bandyism on its head when she dragged state officials with her on a visit to villages in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa.

Chathurika Sirisena stated to the media that she had not come ‘just to show face with an entourage’, but had come instead to share her father’s dream in helping to solve the problems of the people. She added that this is why she was accompanied by state officials.

ChathurikaShe is reported to have visited Mahawelitenna, Sinhapura, Dimbulana, Perakumyaya and Kudapokuna during this ‘fact finding mission’.

“She has every right as a citizen to go anywhere in Sri Lanka and talk to anyone who is ready to talk to her, but Chaturika Sirisena has no legal status to warrant escort by government servants including police officers,” good governance activist Chinthaka Perera told Colombo Telegraph.

Maithripala Sirisena, during the media conference where he announced that he would be running for President stated vehemently that one of the reasons for him contesting for the Presidency was to put an end to nepotism and family bandyism.

Meanwhile when Colombo Telegraph contacted the President’s Deputy Director Media Sunil Jayasekara to clarify if Chathurika has been given a portfolio in her daddy’s government, said that as far as he knows she holds no governmental position.

From the start it was written on the wall this bunch of crooks are here to do better than the last … we are the fools who waste are time writing comments. If one list the irregularities that has taken place for the last 7 months it will blow you away … MY3/Ranil/Chandrika with help from the yellow bird “Sobitha” will drag Sri Lanka down the pipes …there will be no return.

Samanmalee, I have the feeling you should have eaten cowdung for the entire of your life to add this kind of thoughts.
We perfectly know, had My3 led it risking life, we would not have freedom that we enjoy today. Today, even highly accused Rajapakshes have right to express while the rulers do their job go on with the investigations. How would you explain this to your young ones please ? People should be somewhat partial, but to the manner you have been – is nto what your young ones would expect from you.
Please read and try to find more facts about all the businesses carried out by Rajapakshes illegally.

Thanks for being so fastidious as to correct typo.

Endorse fully your pro-Chathurika sentiments. Nothing at all wrong in this – in fact I think it good that this outing has taken place. I even feel that the officials may have been hand-picked and sent by Maithri.

I dare say this could go too far; but really, I’m very happy with Maithri as President. There have been disappointments like the appointment of S.B. Dissanayake, but I won’t be surprised if a year on we begin to see that such expediency was necessary at this stage.

Which puts it in to my head that I should advise Maithri not to allow S.B.D. (whom I’m sure Maithri hates personally) to come anywhere near this sweet girl. On the other hand, there’s almost nothing that I’ve heard of Maithri doing that makes me feel that such unsolicited advice from the likes of us is necessary.

      CN,

You say, It is the same story again and again. Where is that MR bashing commentators?

Had MS’s daughter gone and tried to organize a Beauty Pageant, a Disco Dance, a Casino, Carlton sponsored Netball event or Night Racers, I would have certainly agreed with you. It is none of that is it not? At least, has she used a Helicopter for her travel?

It is nothing of the above, is it not? The why try to stir a storm in a tea cup?

        Gamini,
these people behave as if presidential daughter

        a) abused the helicopters for her casino or grand parties to the manner Rajapakshe offsprings mastered

        b) abused Rajapakshe himself state owned helicopter standing on the way making every effort to block his drug business man Nimal Lanza from being arrested – two years ago.. remember please check the youtube news

        c) abused the nation keeping them in all blatant lies by covering all abusive men like Duminda SIlva from being charged for his multiple crimes

d)abused Rajapakshes son to go for buying all high luxury items to run his playful life… while in the same time sending and allowing poor gawky people to fall much deeper with their survivals

        e) abused letting Namal or other baby son to hit and run even after killing his ruggerite colleagues

        and and..

These offsprings of the current president would never be able to go that far, since their father has proved it to the core.. not harming anyone since January the 8th.
Did Mr Sirisena abuse srilanken aircrafts for his privte tours to the manner most abusive Mr Madamulana did. Wimal buruwanse was taken as MR s lap dog whereever he toured. For what purpose acutally ? Just to please him… by that way only, WIMAL Buruwanse developed his brain cells to be stuck to MR forever… that is just one another example only.

What are her qualifications to write a report after going on a fact finding mission and taking up the time of state officers who should be working to serve the public?!

There are a lot of unemployed graduate sociologists- from Sri Lanka universities who would be able to write a report based on a fact finding mission..

Does she have a degree, or is she being primes like the Namal Jarapassa to take over where daddy leaves off?!

Anyway all his is on the cards with the Cabinet and Ministers of 90 clowns so that the political corruption can be swept under the carpet while the party in the Diyawenna Parliament of corrupt clowns can go on..

      • 4
        5

Dihara, you talk about being availabe of numerous numbers of university graduated qualified ones, where do you find them actually? Lanken society has been deteriorated to the manner one would question what the sociologists and psychologist have to say about the alarming situation. You talk about able ones being plenty even today ? what paradoxial thoughts you bring – it is really funny acutally that you guys seem to be not giving chances any good ones to come forward and express their views publicly. In this case, she is president s daughter, she hs the chance to do some work for the people – using all her family`s popularity. What is wrong with that ? Just to put almost everyone in the same bin should not be what we have to do actually. Does Prez Sirisena allow these offsprings to behave the way MR allowed all highly abuses to become all harrasments to the society ? Using all state wealth for their benefit, Rajapakshe was the most abusive president sofar in the country. Like or not you should be able to live up with the realities and truths.

        • 7
          2

          “using all her family`s popularity”

Sirisena won not because of his popularity. He won just because he was the common candidate. People did not vote for Sirisena. People voted against Rajapaksa. Do not talk about the popularity factor. Now people go behind Sirisena because he has power not because he is popular.

“Does Prez Sirisena allow these offsprings to behave the way MR allowed all highly abuses to become all harrasments to the society ?”

Yes, his brother at SL telecom.

Was his brother (sibling) uneducated to perform that position ? All experts prove that he is over qulaified to do that job. So in such cases, you shold see it. why not he cant do the job ?
Nephatism means abusing it the way how your god father did it.. choseing ape miniha to do external affairs and then turning it to pettah market.. where ambassadors were beaten by appointed thugs. Can you get it now ?

I’m sure that everyone in the country has by now heard Maithri speak. My view – he’s sincere, intelligent, well-read – brilliant all round. {English/ lack of it of no consequence} If this young woman has been exposed to many years of Maithri-wisdom, that alone would have educated her.

If you want me to come up with more stories of shocking appointments of the illiterates, and not just by people who are usually identified as politicians, I could easily do so. But although I know them to be true, each has to be forensically investigated!

May the Sirisena family be rewarded somewhere, sometime for all the good they’ve been doing!

      Nepotism

      Related Terms: Family-Owned Business

In the business world, nepotism is the practice of showing favoritism toward one’s family members or friends in economic or employment terms. For example, granting favors or jobs to friends and relatives, without regard to merit, is a form of nepotism. These practices can have damaging effects on businesses—such as eroding the support of non-favored employees or reducing the quality and creativity of management. In response, some larger companies have instituted “anti-nepotism” policies, which prevent relatives (by blood or marriage) from working in the same department or firm. But in many smaller, family-owned businesses, nepotism is viewed in more positive terms. Family members are trained in various aspects of management to ensure the continuity of the company when members of the earlier generation retire or die. In fact, in many small businesses nepotism is considered a synonym for “succession.”

One of the most common arguments against nepotism is that the emotional ties between people who are related may negatively affect their decision making abilities and professional growth. In the past, many businesses sought to avoid even the appearance of nepotism by forbidding relatives from working closely together. This began to change as women entered the work force in ever greater numbers and began to rise to positions of prominence. Often, both the man and the woman in a married couple were too valuable for a company to lose. Instead of instituting strict anti-nepotism rules, many businesses decided that family members could be accommodated within a merit system, especially if there was no direct supervisory link between the positions of related employees.

      NEPOTISM IN SMALL BUSINESSES
Even within small businesses where family members often work together concerns about how these nepotistic relationships may be viewed by others must be considered. Business owners have often feared that non-family employees would resent or even treat unkindly family members brought into the business. Newly hired family members may even be seen as roadblocks to advancement in a company by some non-family employees. A recent Inc.com poll reveled the extend to which this attitude prevails. In fact, nearly half of those polled (48 percent) believed that being the boss’s son is the secret to getting ahead, while only a quarter agreed that success comes from doing good work.

This attitude suggests that family-owned businesses need to make serious efforts to establish an environment in which it is clear that employees will be rewarded based on merit. This does not necessarily mean that hiring a relative is a bad idea. What is necessary, however, are policies and actions that show clearly that all employees are rewarded fairly and equally for company success. The emotional bonds between family members can actually have a positive effect on individual performance and company results. In addition, hiring family members can fill staffing requirements with dedicated employees. And it should not be forgotten that preparing a family member to carry on a business is a perfectly legitimate enterprise for the owner of a family business.

But in order to avoid potential pitfalls and ensure that relatives work together effectively, the company should establish formal guidelines regarding hiring, responsibilities, reporting structure, training, and succession. These guidelines will be different depending on the family’s size, culture, history, and line of business, in addition to other factors. “How strict or liberal the rules ‘¦ are is less important than clear communication of the rules before they are needed and fair application of the rules when timely,” Craig E. Aronoff and John L. Ward wrote in Nation’s Business. After all, most non-family employees recognize the legitimacy of preparing younger family members to assume the company’s reins down the road. But experts agree that a widespread workforce perception that family members are not being held responsible for their performance can develop into a major morale problem.

Regarding hiring, Aronoff and Ward recommend in Family Business Succession that family members meet three qualifications before they are allowed to join the family business on a permanent basis: an appropriate educational background; three to five years’ outside work experience; and an open, existing position in the firm that matches their background. Of these qualifications, Aronoff and Ward stress that outside work experience is the most important for both the business and the individual. They claim that it gives future managers a wider experience base that makes them better equipped to deal with challenges, lets them learn and make mistakes before coming under the watchful eye of the family, makes them realize what other options exist and thus appreciate the family firm, and provides them with an idea of their market value.

Aronoff and Ward also suggest that family members begin their association with the business by working part-time during their school years or participating in internships. In addition, they stress that companies who hire family members should make it clear to the individuals that they will be fired for illegal or unethical behavior, regardless of their family ties. Finally, they recommend that family businesses encourage their employees to maintain outside associations in order to avoid problems associated with a lack of creativity or accountability in management. For example, future managers could participate in industry or civic groups, enroll in night school classes or attend seminars, take responsibility for a division or profit center, and have their job performance reviewed by outside consultants or directors. Such steps can improve the employee’s self-confidence and preparation for an eventual leadership role in the business.

What a joke! Where was she for the past thirty odd years when her father was a powerful minister and a party tycoon to find facts in his contituency.? This cleary shows the ulterior motives of the clan. If president has to send his daughter to find facts let all the others also send their wives, hubbies, children, parents, siblings, inlaws etc etc to find problems of the citizens. What a feudal regime!

Chathurika should reimburse all expenses incurred by the state in connection with this ‘do-it-yourself’ government performance auditing by her. Disciplinary action should be taken against the government officials involved if their participation was not properly authorized. Chathurika should be told in no uncertain terms that she should use her own funds in any such “sellam-bath government” projects in the future. And she should get prior approval from the proper authorities before entering any property that doesn’t belong to her.

If these children would not have done anything – what would have been said about them ? I think being the offsprings of a ruling president, they also have their rights to express themselves. Just to corner them as calling it would be the way to go for nepatism is not a right thing to do. If they have good education, why not they are allowed to work for the people. And Rajapakshe did it in a very unacceptable manner making his kith and kin ambasadors or representatives – shoudl not be done by anyone.

Mind my telling you, Sirisena has two more children and Daham has already displayed his capability of stepping into Mervyn Silva’s son, if the need arises.

I saw and heard this on News First last night and was surprised, annoyed and wondered what was happening.

Dear Dr two weeks after he became President, Maithri appointed his brother SLT Chairman. It was the first sign of things to come. When will he start making excuses for a second term in office?

      • 3
        2

But the particular brother is an expert in that field. Unlike your god father did the job appointing tea salesman or tea tasters and former army men to represent the country to outside world while swaziland and other new countries making his friends and lovers.
Anyways, we should be against to anything if the candidates are not qualified enough to do a job – so long any candidates being eudated and civilized enough to do a service, why should we stand on their way not allowing these young ones to do their job well ?
Nepatism is not that keeping presidential or others offsprings or siblings keep away from politics of the country- but it is defined if a state abuses using rulers relatives in a wrong manner. Anyways,
this country is left by 30 year held war – everyone and anyone today criticises anything and everything.
Let qulafied ones to come forward for the job than any simple simons without the basics knowledge be allowed to attack anyone.

          Sinhala_man,

Why should the President’s daughter, who was not heard of until this incident get involved or involve government officials, if she wants o do some social service. Has she been instructed by the President to look after his former electorate? If there are water and housing problems in Polonnaruwa and the First Daughter has just noticed them, what was her father doing for long years as the MP of the area and a Minister to boot?

The President’s daughter has her right to engage in any legal activity, including social work, as a citizen. However, the role she has played in this incident and probably intents to continue, smacks of misusing her status as the first daughter, to advance her own agenda. She has done what she wants to do in the wrong way and if she has the President’s backing, he has grievously erred. If she is promoted by other forces, she has erred in her judgement and is embarrassing her father.

If she goes around Polonnaruwa or any other part of Sri Lanka as a private individual and a citizen ( of course with the security she is entitled) quietly and makes representations on the problems she sees to the President or / and the MP of the area p, it will be welcome. I am sure she has much to learn, before she can teach or solve using the State machinery, considering her age.

What is wrong is not her good intentions are, if any, but her foray into this adventure/misadventure, as the daughter of a President who is promoting good governance -which has to have ETHICS as the founding principle. This incident, though may have been the result of innocence or youthful exuberance, is a bad beginning for her, a bad omen for her father’s presidency and a potential repeat nightmare for this country.

Dr. R.N., If MR won the presidential election, he would have made
Hambantota as the capital of Sri Lanka and the parliament would
have functioned from there and like wise MS may want to groom his
daughter to be the next MP for Polannaruwa and then a minister and then the President and make Polannaruwa, a rural power. As a daughter of the President. She has every right to embark on a fact finding mission about her father’s rule in a private capacity
to find out from villagers as to how they feel about the regime change and whether they are satisfied with what they are getting and this is a step in the right direction, but the mistake she made was that she should not have dragged the govt. officials(some of them of course warm the chairs and do nothing much )and made it an official event, without proper authorization but she had the cost in mind. Doubtful, anybody had the guts to remind her of such a rule existed and instead, would have said ‘yes mamm”Yes mamm” and embarked on the waggon. She did a voluntary job of work and her intentions were good and it should be appreciated by the people. Every body has ambitions to become some body. She has the personality but the public do not know her back ground and how much of education she has. There was Senanayake dynasty, Bandaranayake dynasty, Rajapakse dynasty ruling the country and why not a Sirisena dynasty to run the country as long as they do not play out the finances and resources of the country.

This is Pollanaruwa,we are talking about , where many Sinhala kings ruled from here and they have sent civilian emissaries to the villages to find out from the subjects whether there were any dissention against the rule and the President did follow the old tradition in this case and people should not make a hue and cry over this small issue.

              Lanka Watch,

First News reported about an hour back that the First Daughter, chaired a meeting at the Polonnaruwa Kachcheri today. It was accompanied by a video clip of her speaking. It was not clear if the GA attended.

It is really sad that many do not see what is wrong with the way she is doing her do!

Dear President Maithripala Sirisena‘s daughter Chathurika,

“President Maithripala Sirisena‘s daughter Chathurika has turned his passionate pledge of putting an end to nepotism and family bandyism on its head when she dragged state officials with her on a visit to villages in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa.”

Thank you Madam for volunteering. What a great start to meet the people and listen to the concerns and issue they face. You are on the right path here.

I would recommend to recruit a group of like minded citizens who truly wants to help the people and the country.

What a contrast with the former President’s sons who were racing, murdering and raping.

“Are you being sarcastic or appreciative? The diffrence in this instance is difficult to discern. “

I am appreciative of the fact that President Maithripala Sirisena‘s daughter Chathurika, has taken the initiative to see for herself, and doing something, for the people, the country and the President, her father. Any parent should be very proud of such a child. They did something here right in bringing up children.

Now contrast that to Mahinda Rajapaksa and his sons. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his sons were involved in rackets, corruption, murders, rapes, and many other criminal activities in addition to the corruption. The list is endless.

We also understand that that the former “First Lady”, Mrs. Rajapaksa “Loaned” her NGO Vehicle for carryover out criminal activities including murder. What else did She do? Steal LTTE Gold?

        Dear Amarasiri,

It is rarely that you slip up. You did here by referring to young Chathurika as “Madam”. Had you said “lass” or “kid” or even “young lady” I don’t think the astute Dr.Rajasingham Narendran would have faulted you.

And, thanks, Amarasiri, for all the other intelligent comments that you post.

Amarasiri said: “Thank you Madam for volunteering.”

We all need to appreciate the good works carried out by people, whatever their age and sex.

Amarasiri could have used Young Lady, Ms. Sirisena, lass etc. However, the wotk she has initiated is far reaching, and I compared that to what Ariyaratna;s Sarvodaya movement did. One needs to appreciate that coming from this young lady, who happens to be the President’s daughter, and used the word Madam, out of respect.

          Madam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madam

Madam /ˈmædəm/, or, as French, madame /ˈmædəm/ or mə-dam'[1], is a polite form of address for women, often contracted to ma’am /ˈmæm/. The abbreviation is “Mme” and the plural is mesdames (abbreviated Mmes). The term was borrowed from the French madame (French pronunciation: [maˈdam]), which means “my lady”

In speaking, Madam is used in direct address when the lady’s name is not known; for example: May I help you, madam? In the United States, “ma’am” is usually used,[citation needed] except in regions such as New England where particular ties to England still exist.[citation needed] Even then, “madam” tends to only be used when addressing the elderly, with “ma’am” being used for a younger woman.[citation needed] The male equivalent is “sir”.

When addressing a letter to the holder of a particular position without knowing the name or gender of the addressee, it is common to write “Dear Sir or Madam,”. When writing to a newspaper editor, the correct English usage is to omit the “Dear” and commence simply “Sir,” or “Madam,” etc

This is too much of a “SHAW”. Last time we had a “woman”(excuse me for the reference) who brought all the “headaches” to the then President and unfortunately he could not have a control over her “commands”. This is like “Pudana kotama kapi yake” (grab the food as it is given). Why can’t these ladies start slowly and go into public life with little patience and learn from the immediate history. I know what the “intentions” are; but do it in a “modest” and a “responsible” manner without creating “headaches” for the President who is grappling with immense problems of setting the Government machinery. She “listens” and “promises”; but what on earth her plans to redress those complaining so “suddenly”. Does she know what the “Government machinery” is? Are they a lot who can be moved to “perform” with that kind of “speed” she promises. She does not know what she is walking into. I feel sorry for her and the President. Mr. President, STOP this type of NONSENSE.

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about…..? Can anyone explain why the President’s daughter cannot go fact find anywhere? And if she goes as an ambassador for her father, is she not entitled to have both officials to take care of the administrative and information gathering side (for follow up action later), AND security?

She is from Polonnaruwa, AND there are big issues there with water quality, overuse of fertiliser and Kidney disease (CKDu) which could use all the official help they can get…. so CT, not sure what your motives are here to try and vilify this lady?

The fuss my dear is about someitng good she is trying to do but going about it in the wrong way. Being the daughter of the president does not confer her authority to use state officials. There are about ten people sitting along side with her but I don’t know how many of them are government staff. Whetheher is a GSN or a peon she simply does not have the authority.

I do not know why a big fuss is being made of this. There is nothing much in it. In fact, it appears she was volunteering her services for a good cause.

The objection seems to be over the fact that government officials accompanied her during these visits to the villages in Polonnaruwa. It may be true that these officials willingly went with her because she happened to be the daughter of the President. In any case it is the responsibility of these officials to identify the shortcomings of the villages and take action. On this occasion she seems to have goaded them into action.

Chaturika Sirisena should be applauded for her action in drawing the officials’ attention to the shortcomings of these villagers.

I would have understood the objections if she had been given a paid official position to handle this job which then could be classified as an act of nepotism on the part of Maithri. Though I crticised Maithri since the time he backstabbed Mahinda and will continue to criticize him for any of his autocratic actions, I do not see any problem if his daughter or for that matter anybody else comes forward to volunteer their services for a good cause.

she should have shown some concern for the peoples problems long time ago unless she was living abroad or in mars.It is obvious isn’t it when the age barrier was brought in to stop namal from contesting the next presidential elections and the shock they got from his strong performance in hambantota. This is now the counter attack for the 2025 presidential election which namal will be eligible to contest.

Those days whenever a king is dethroned first thing they do is to kill his sons and brothers. Now with all this damn democracy can’t do that anymore so have to adopt the longer route to play safe for the future.

After all namal is the closest replica of mahinda rajapakshe in the country isn’t he?The man who ended the war.If the people did not show their gratitude for that this time it was because of his misdeeds, but they can always show their gratitude again by voting for his son one day in the future.Mahinda’s legacy of ending the war will never fade away, however much others may hope so.A legacy is a legacy forever in history and he had made his mark on history while others failed to do so.Rajiv ghandhi is the buffoon who handed this legacy to mahinda.

Even without foundation cream , Chaththu looks better and fresher than those Pin Up chicks of the Colombo Elite, Ms Rosie and Hirunikers.

Besides Chatthu is a lass who is trying to do something for the Dalits at least in Poloonnaruwa.

    I am really impressed.

In this Yahapalana arena, where the Elite , Anglicans , Vellalas and even the Wahabis are set to rake it in big time , thank heavens that the President’s daughter is taking a keen interest on our people.

Good on you gal. Keep up the good work and may God Bless you..

No point me asking for the blessings of the Triple Gem because , Venerable Medulwewa Sobitha and the Mahanayaks have already drawn the full quota for Batalanda Ranil and his UNP Government.

One mistake is enough. Now the stag is gone man came. Feel happy. Don’t keep digging and go more and more low. Now, the left out is another Hambantota Bandit Sajit and family. Is that what you all are looking for?

Yoshita did only after Old King became Dutugemunu. But that was not the story of Daham.

If you give a man two appas who only had one, it become a problem to him not having three. That is the human nature. Daham and Yoshitha are easy to forget. So they find problem with Chaturika. They want the third Appa.

(New King challenged Old King only when his son got caught in beating the DIG’s son and sending him to hospital bed. As the Old King was good in grabbing opportunities, it was a good grip on the New King. Only way New King had to get out of the trouble was take a chance. Then, the Exam cheat fame Dr.Jayampathy hired the New King to run for the race. Old King and New King exchanged files. But, this time, the war crime that American Secretary Kerry’s threat made Old King weaker. So, he purposely lost his election and gave the power to New King. Ranil Mahata’s Ranilpalayana Drama is only the left over of his trip to New York to stop the UNSG’s panel of expert’s report and save the Old King)

Going to the people is the best way to get to know their dire needs. The result is very correct,as in the past state officials have not reached the people and what was due to the people have been robbed by some of the state officials. We need to train new graduates into the state sector and get these areas totally cleansed of corruption and a new group of educated state officials to join the work force.
I appreciate her work. As a woman she is on the right track. Forget her Father and the rest. We need more capable young women and men on the field to go direct to the people. Bless their work.

There is mo justification for Maithiri’s daughter to misuse government machinery!

All of us should vehemently condemn the President for this disgraceful act.

Now it the turn for Maithri!

“There is mo justification for Maithiri’s daughter to misuse government machinery!”

She, Maithiri’s daughter, is showing how the state “Officials”, called “Public Servants” go should go around and find out what the problems and needs are of the people for whom they are “Public Servants” , instead of sitting on their desks and being distracted.

“misuse government machinery!” In many places, the “Public Servants” are misusing the government machinery and faculties in proving a productive output.

So, this is NOT misusing government machinery. This is efficient use of government machinery which is not being used efficiently, to serve the people.

Thank you, Maithiri’s daughter, and the people appreciate your initiative and leadership.
