Malwatte Mahanayake Refuses To Meet Sirisena: President’s Media Division Makes Desperate Attempt To Suppress Story

Mahanayaka Thera of the Malwatte Chapter, Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera has refused to see President Maithripala Sirisena this morning when the latter sought an appointment with the prominent Buddhist monk to discuss the current political situation, Colombo Telegraph learns.

The Mahanayaka Thera had said he did not want to have any meeting with Sirisena who unabashedly violated the constitution by dissolving parliament breaching the provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which he architected himself.

When the reports of Mahanayake Thera’s refusal to meet Sirisena surfaced, the President’s Media Division had strictly instructed provincial journalists in Kandy to refrain from reporting it. As a result, none of the mainstream media institutions in the country received the story this evening.

When contacted by several news reporters in Colombo, the PMD, in a desperate bid to cover-up the humiliating rejection, had said Sirisena did not visit the Malwatte temple and only visited the four Dewalayas in Kandy.

However, after much persuasion, the Mahanayaka thera of the Malwatte chapter had agreed to meet Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, the General Secretary of the UPFA and an ally of Sirisena.

Respectful thanks to the Venerable Mahanayaka who has taken progressive positions before, in contrast to his Asgiriya counterpart who reportedly wanted Gotabhaya to be Hitler.

“It is good for all the politicians to know that tbey cant get the blessings after looting, robbing.”

You are being too serious about Mahanayaka’s political postures.
If they are serious about anything at all, they should open up their doors to non govi people and ordain them as monks.
However robberies, arson, mass killings, war crimes, racism, bigotry, anti people measures, …………………. never stopped the Mahanayakas from meeting the perpetrators, Dr Mahinda, Dr Gota, Dutta Gamani, Windbag Sangili Karuppan Weerawansa, Wijeyadasa, …………………………………………………………………………, ……

In fact just after the end of war in 2009, Mahasangha bestowed honorary titles on them, for example Mahinda Rajapaksa was filicitated in ‘ Visvakeerthi Sri Sinhaladeeswara’ by Malwatte and Asgiriya chapter chief Incumbent Ven,Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha and Ven,Tibbotuwawe.

The other racist war criminals Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Air Force Commander, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatilake and Director of Civil Defence, Rear Admiral, Sarath Weerasekera were also decorated by the Maha Sangha on the same occasion.

The refusal of the Mahanayake’s stand to reason:

With all due respect to the situation and the legalities, whatever the circumstances, any major decisions concerning the People of Sri Lanka by whoever – MUST be ratified by the PEOPLE or the different people’s representative – preferably in Parliament.

Both the Friday proclamations of the current President MUST be ratified by Parliamentarians!

Should the People’s voice NOT be considered as in a situation like this, it tantamount’s to a failed Democracy by treachery.

In Englisgh what I mean is that the Ven. Mahanayake priests specially during this time of need must contribute favourably to the people and country because the Sinhala Buddhists have been divided. On January 08th, 2015, we the people consisting of lovers of the country (Deshapremi), Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and even those like Ven Athuraliye Ratna Himipaananun formed an alliance and we stood shoulder to shoulder to oust a dangerous autocratic lunatic named Mahinda Rajapaksha. If a man man becomes the president or a king becomes a mad man , the repercussions spell disaster for the country. Here is perfect example where our president has gone mad and now we have a deranged leader. If someday, our people question the Mahanayaka as to Who an ungrateful person is, then the Mahanayaka can show them our deranged Sirisena who is a gutter, despicable, pitiful, low class, conniving, deceitful, extremist Sinhala Buddhist mongrel who acted in an unethical, unlawful and illegal manner to betray our people and our country and scuttled any development efforts back by many years. I hope the Mahnayake priests see first hand that our country has hit rock bottom.

The Mahanayakes have a moral duty to bring these leaders together and have a conference to resolve the issue with foresight and advice(anusasana), i.e. Sirisena, Mahinda, Karu and Ranil. At times like this, it is better to appeal to the good sense of leaders and resolve issues amicably in the interest of the nation and its global reputation.

Gone were the days Mahanayakes behaved like that. They to that time, were cruicil to lanken politics.

Today, they themselves are like SLOTHs. They just stay as if they dont want to see it beyond.

Mahanayakas are just lazy monks but enjoyr respect as no others.

Will the President gazette and annul the Malwatte Chapter for not meeting him?

Will the President gazette and shut the judiciary for considering enemies case to adjudge on his decision to dissolve the parliament?

Malwatte Mahanayake Thero has done the right thing. Not only the Mahanayake Thero but the whole country do not want to see Sirisena.

Let us just wait and see the fun in the near future…

As soon as the general election is over, whoever wins the election (UNP or SLFP), they will impeach the president and send Sirisena home. Both UNP and SLFP do not trust him, he has betrayed both, more than Ranil, the Rajapakshes hate him. As soon as the election is over, the entire parliament (UNP, SLFP, JVP, TNA, SLMC) will get together and kick Sirisena out, and it will be the end of his political career. The entire Sri Lankan nation will be happy to send Sirisena home for good.

Let alone today Mahanayakas see it right for the sake people s justice.Enough is enough please stand against constitutional injustice made to this nation by an uneducated president. How can fake PM Rajapakse be empowered to go for new election without approval of legitimate parliament? Not even Prabakaran did harm this much but absurd Sirisena did.

We all the Sri Lankan’s are saluting you for refusing to see the President who has brought great uncertainty and DISTRESS to many. The country is paying hugely not only financially but also on our standing in this world because of the illegal moves since 26th October 2018.
We should instil in our minds that we are all Sri Lankan FIRST and should ban religious or racial incitements prior to the election.
Ideally we should have Presidential Election on 5/1/2019 as well.

Dear Most Respectable Rev Mahanayake Theros,
I have no words to express my sadness and helplessness immediatly I got to know that the president who was elected by us the 6.2 millions of voters in my home country has not betrayed not only the mandate given to him almost the party that fed him and saved him life in that 2015 struggle.
Where on the earth we got to know leaders that came to power but made U-turn and joined hand with the opposition fractions just because he could not just disgest his prime minister.?
If he really failed to continue with legitimate Prime minister and the cabinet, there should have been other fairer options to resolve them. PM is just a person and the second citize of this country only but what about the other cabinet ministers and the people’s mandate ?
Why a president turned out to be a mad person?
He should be jailed or sent to therapy ?
How could any single voter explain their lovely ones why the president made the kind of unethicla unmoral decisions by appointing Former President as his legitimate Prime minister. Not just that appointment, President to prorogue the parliament not having discussed the appointed premiership in the parliament where 225 of people’s representatves consist of ? is the second unforgivable failure.
Why a president to react this way, if his behavour is not connected with some pathological reasons ?
Besides, going by 19th Amendment which his mediate brought the constitution clearly articulated, unlike prior to the amendement, now the presidential powers have been limited and thus has to react according to 19th Amendment. And that further articulated parliement is strengthened . As President himself boasted the hardly earned achievement as it was he who sacrificed that much nobody else according to lanken executive presidency etc. but he himself to violate the amendment is beyond my comphrehension.

I hope that what happened to Muammar Gaddafi of Libya would not happen to any leader whatsoever, here in our country. Muammar Gaddafi was a tyrant but he did so much for his country and its people. He had the oil Money of course.
    .
Yet, he was dragged like a dog on the road and slowly killed with clubs and bare hands and feet by an irate crowd. Let that be a lesson for all those would be dictators and tyrants in this world.

The dissolution of the Parliament is completely unconstitutional even at the face value.
According to Moonlight Government, the President dissolved the Parliament under Article 33(2)(c) of the Constitution which states that “the President will have the power to summon, prorogue and DISSOLVE Parliament in addition to the powers, duties and functions………” which is a gross misinterpretation.
The WORD “dissolve” does NOT stand as a single word giving power to the President to dissolve the Parliament.
The only instance he could DISSOLVE is, if there is a Resolution passed by 2/3 majority requesting him to dissolve the Parliament.
Suppose 33(2)(c) didn’t contain the word “dissolve”, what will happen, if there is a request to dissolve?
As clearly indicated under 19A, he can exercise his power to dissolve ONLY if there is a request WHICH WAS PASSED BY 2/3 MAJORITY!!!
When the Executive and the Legislature violate the Constitution, the only way for people to seek redress is by filing a petition in the Supreme Court which is believed to be devoid of political influence as it is the Highest Court.
SC has already given a judgement with regard President’s term reducing it to 5 in accordance with the 19th Amendment as against the original 6 year term.
Some argue that the dissolution was a result of people’s plea to do so. That is not a reading of people accurately..
People didn’t ask for a general election at this time which is an unnecessary burden on them but wanted the PM to step down while expecting the Presidential election to be the next major election.
Whatever is the opinion of politicians, the general public is not as uneducated as they think.

Democracy in the hands of Srilankans had been a razor blade in the hands of
monkey since its inception. They always tried to live without a law whenever
possible and when it is convenient to them. First thing is , they created
divisions among Sinhalese themselves in the name of castes and everything
else falls on that line including their political, social and religious leaders. They
have everything that needs to start a fire among themselves at the right moment.
The right moment was many times diverted to the direction of Tamils and
Muslims and J V P ! And still it is the same Democracy that saves them even
today . But that democracy is not immune from being the target of some forces
and some monks are among them, not Malwathu fortunately.

I, too, believe the Mahanayake has done the right thing. The President’s undemocratic and illegal action cannot be condoned. First and foremost, he should not have prorogued parliament and sack a Premier who was appointed legitimately and constitutionally, and then dissolve parliament prematurely!

To add to my previous comment, the action that the Venerable Mahanayaka took amounts to the disciplined yet powerfully unmistakable act of Buddhist censure, the PATTA NIKUJJANA KAMMA (“turning over the bowl”), that is, refusal of alms.
