While derailing investigations into all war crimes and human rights abuses during the final phase of war, President Maithripala Sirisena, addressing the 73th session of the UNHRC, urged the world to look at Sri Lanka ‘with a fresh pair of eyes’.
President Sirisena has openly ordered the Police to refrain from arresting top ranking military officers over killings and abductions that took place under the previous government.
Just two weeks before he addressed the UN General Assembly, Sirisena berated IGP Pujith Jayasundara and top officers of the CID for attempting to arrest Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne over killings and abductions of 11 youth.
He called upon the international community to look at Sri Lanka from a fresh perspective and consider the “tremendous progress” made by his government towards reconciliation, restoration of democratic freedom, human rights and the rule of law.
Sirisena also pleaded world leaders to extend the fullest support to build a progressive, democratic, free and equal society.
He also said Sri Lanka was taking action to consolidate peace and forge ahead to develop the economy, and such a nation deserves the support and understanding of the international community.
“I urge the international community to allow Sri Lankan people to solve their problems on their own,” he said.
“As an independent country we do not want any foreign power to exert influence on us. We want to appeal to the international community to give us the room to resolve the problems that we are facing so that the right of the Sri Lankan people to find solutions to their problems is respected, ” he added.
The President said that the government was also working to eliminate fear and suspicion among different communities.
“if a man is pierced with a dart, he will suffer physical pain. When he worries about it, he suffers more pain. Hence, there are two kinds of pains suffered by the man. When it comes to Sri Lanka, it is the people who suffered pain due to war and they continue to feel pain when they think about it. Therefore, I take this opportunity to call upon your support and cooperation, ” he added.
Sirisena’s speech failed to address any of the human rights concerns raided by international organizations , including the UN, over Sri Lanka.

War reparations are payments made after a war by the vanquished to the victors. They are intended to cover damage or injury inflicted during a war. President Serisena, from a small rogue country Sri Lanka, told the UN General Assembly, and as a so-called senior member of the Non-Aligned Movement, to adopt a humane approach and with greater understanding and support the liberation struggle of the Palestinian people.
He seems to have a greater understanding of the issues of poverty in the world, climate change, income disparities, certain shortcomings of other governments, but not sure what’s happening under his own administration.
He believes that justice and accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, defeating the Tamil people and their liberation struggle, are internal matters and Sri Lanka should be left alone, and calls on the international community to give them time and space, and to assist them in THEIR endeavours and agenda, on national harmony and to complete reconciliation, with army occupation, to change the demography of the Tamil Homeland, with colonisation and singhalanization.

Though, to ensure accountability and responsibility, UNSG has got a deal signed in May, 2009 with Old King, the EP of that time, the deal has no specifics at all. It never can be used for any direct actions over Lankawe. So currently on the hand of Tamils is the UNHRC’s resolution 30/1, which only a resolution. As Lankawe discarded three pacts and one accord with India on this matter, it would not mind to discard this resolution. Though discarding this resolution would do only minimal damage than the previous pacts, but Tamils may push matters to UN from UNHRC and there from to ICC, which can ignite war crime conviction and sanctions.

Colombo Media widely advertised that a speech being prepared to be delivered by New King at UN to tell their final decision of the Resolution 30/1 of UNHRC. Before UNHRC’s 40th sitting the resolution has to be completed. But after 38th sitting Tilak, LK FAM, had said they may leave UNHRC. So, by Tamils, that or even harder than that was expected to be heard by Tamils. But US has left UNHRC before Lankawe do what it announced, unofficially. Further, outside of UNHRC, US is continuing its earlier standing of Lankawe to complete the resolution. So whether Lankawe leave the UNHRC or not, the pressure from US and other counties to comply with the resolution is unlikely to change when the two different spheres, UNHRC and outside, added together. But getting out of UNHRC can be a journey in unchartered water. So now it seems Lankawe may not quit UNHRC, to avoid fulfilling the resolution it cosigned. As Lankawe fears to quit UNHRC, it is going to be coerced in UNHRC to comply with the resolution. Even if it dodged the UNHRC, it may be end up with UN’s actions by the continuous pressure of Tamils. So a soft end for the resolution is getting UN to overrule UNHRC and get the resolution cancelled. If some or how New King gets UN to overrule UNHRC, that would be the end of Tamils nagging. This strategy also not new Lankawe; once earlier in 2009 Kathirgamar made UN to withdraw its entire employees for the war go un-witnessed. That is the one, the UN’s withdrawal and the war went without out witness, is the most difficult part Tamils and IC are struggling to overcome at UN level. So the planned speech was demanding UN to nullify the UNHRC resolution had lot of sense, provided all of it can be done by an speech like that, at UN.

He had to reply to Sec. John Kerry, in Sep, 2016 at UNGA sitting, for the question of why matters were taking too long to implement Resolution 30/1, that time it was a one year old baby. He appears to have said some SLFP elements were putting blocks, meaning it was Old King stopping the to implementation of the resolution. In December, 2016 New King had said that he would meet President Trump in Washington in February, 2017 and have the resolution repealed. Instead March, 2017, UNHRC simply extended the expiration date for 2 more years. President Trump’s staff was involved in that extension. He never achieved what he wanted in 2017, the whole year. (But Ranil had earned some success in 2017 for vetoing through China, if it comes to UN). So, this time he was planning to have it done in New York, by UN, probably to beat Ranil’s’ achievement.
In fact there were two important speeches were delivered in this UNGA sitting. He delivered another speech in Madela’s memorial meeting too. He basically made this speech as an addendum to that speech. He did not insist that he is being a Mandela but told to others to try to become a Mandelas. Mandela initiated TRC in SA in a completely reversed circumstance, the White minority was oppressing the Black majority and Blacks fought and won and excused the minority Whites. In Lankawe Majority is oppressing the minority, who fought for their right lost, but Sinhalese refused to show magnanimity to Tamils after losing. Mandela’s magnanimity is an approach for all war circumstances, Lankawe rulers never got out of war moor and victory mood. So with Sinhala leaders’ war mood and for the urge of using army to occupy North East, many more years yet to come before to apply Mandela’s Magnanimity. . Interestingly Lankawe is the only country UNHRC pressed to follow Mandela and be magnanimous, in 2000s but it is missed.

But this speech was completely unexpected. In this, he is asking not to interfere in Sri Lanka. Resolution 30/1 is not mentioned at all. Lankawe is far too way beyond in all aspects to ask UN to stay out of Lankawe when it comes to War Crime 2009. Even the worst UN Modaya wouldn’t have mind about that part of the speech. But the speech was written vetted and delivered in that way. So why did they do such a embellished and expensive presentation that nobody would minds? We need to look further.
China is holding Lankawe’s throat so hard and choking it so, no way of getting out of it. China wants to push as hard as Lankawe so America would with draw Dollar for Lankawe trade. China appears to hope to bring a final from IC on Lankawe that will the final guarantee that Lankawe will honestly surrender to China and would stop bitchy behaviors between West and China. Rupee is in irreparable shape. Economic growth couldn’t be brought to South Asian level. No hope of doing that anytime in recent future. In all aspects, Lankawe economy is in the hand of Tom, Dick and Harry, but not in the hand of President of Parliament or CB.
On political side, last regime change was instigated by West. Just weeks ago all Lankawe leaders had returned from Meeting PM Modi. Media speculated this as next election preparation. After Kanthalai debacle, now an Indian citizen has been accused of plotting murder of President and former Defense Secretary, the two formidable opponents of Ranil in the next election. But Media is reluctant to accuse Ranil to have masterminded it. But Media is accusing Ranil, earlier, using a Singapore Citizen to mastermind CB looting and helping him to escape back to Singapore. Other than Ranil, all others have been flying to China and US, recently. After returning from UN, New King will be flying to China.

Let us look at his Speech: “We will comply with UN’s mandates…. UN has to leave us alone”. UN, from, UNSG’s visit to Lankawe in 2009, is in the process of clarifying and engaging Lankawe to fulfil its obligation to UN. Such a highly educated speech writer is unlikely to let go any of the developments that took place so far, not explained to New King, on this regards. Then it seems, New King, made this speech mainly to UN, not for Lankaweyans as many suggest. He said to UN that he would take care of UN, but if something locally happen, not to care about it. Because electing and rejecting their president is internal Sovereignty. So, if by extra Ordinary activities, New King go ahead and consolidate the power and secure for him the EP position after 2021, what China, India and the West, none of them now favors him, but waiting to enact another regime change, will take out this speech?

All kinds of phony investigations into war crimes should be dismantled. There is no basis for such investigations. So called war wasn’t a war between two sovereign countries. Though some lunatics try to portray it that way. LTTE was a terrorist group and they declared war against the DEMOCRATICALLY elected government. In the view of the government there was no difference between LTTE and other law breaking criminals. They had to either arrest the criminals or kill them. Just because Tamils wanted to take up arms against the “Sinhala” government doesn’t mean government should sit down and watch. JVP terrorists were dealt with military action. There were however no war crime investigations into that. Where were all these UN,Geneva and other international clowns back then ?? Why only now ? THROUGHOUT THE WAR all the schools,hospitals and other government institutions in LTTE occupied areas were operated and funded by the GOVERNMENT. Even the TERRORISTS WERE FED BY THE GOVERNMENT !!!
