The Minister of Development Assignments and UNP national list MP Tilak Janaka Marapana PC was sworn in as the new Foreign Affairs Minister a short while ago.

On November 9, 2015, he had tendered his resignation as a Minister of Law and Order. This came after several Cabinet Ministers and civil society leaders expressed their concern on Marapana’s statement regarding the Avant Garde armoury at the Parliament.
“Since an investigation is underway about the Avant Garde issue, I have decided to tender my resignation,” Marapana who was the former Legal Advisor to the Avant Garde Security Service said.

It is a very lamentable state of affairs the country is in– other than recycling old useless garbage there appear to no one to run the country. Sri lanka is a funny country. I remember when I was young it was the Kallathonic who were prominent in Recycling by collecting bottles, and papers. My school had digged a very wide pit to recyle the garbages collected everyday around the school. Paddy straw was taken to Valachchena for recyacling. Now, govt advertises in SLBC, saying so many had travelled around the world looking for a method recycle garbage in colombo. Apparently, there were no good methods for them. that is why Meethotamulla tragedy happend. Recently I saw a video of a young schoolboy making a statement how the current affairs impact not only their parents but themselves and therefore they should be very worried. This is exactly the point – need a new vision for the country. I know it is easier for me to say this, but even if it takes a bit of time, it has to come at some point and sooner the better.
It is a national disgrace the affairs of this country – everyone in politics is somehow related or friends of each other. In a set up like this how can one expect any justice or good governance? Whole Rajapaksa family is involved in money making ventures, so is MS family – directly benefitting from his position. Then we have idiotic ministers who have opinions on everything under the sun but not their own work. Have you ever heard any of these idiots saying this is my plan for agriculture, fisheries, industry or health for the next 5 years and this is what I am hoping to deliver to the public? Nothing – they are mostly reactive – if some allegation comes up they say some crap and put the blame on someone else. Everyone blames someone else – even when you get caught.
If we whet or anger only on forum like this and fall silent nothing will happen. I am not saying there should be bloodshed to change the system, but for god sake, you need to get the whole lot out of government soon. Do you really want to see the faces of these people for the next 10-15, because apparently they are in it for the long-haul as no one has given any indication of retiring and paving the way for a younger more dynamic generation to take charge.
