The Joint Opposition today declared that it will boycott all State events including the February 4th Independence Day celebrations, as a mark protest against recent incidents where government’s political opponents are being hunted down.
Addressing a press conference, Dinesh Gunawardena said that the boycott will continue until Sri Lankans get back their freedom and democracy. “All political opponents of the UNP government are being hunted down, this must stop, and we will continue to boycott all State events until Sri Lankans get their rightful freedom,” he said.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa claimed that Yoshitha Rajapaksa has been arrested without any proper proof. “They are trying to get Mahinda Rajapaksa out of politics, and they think the best way to do this is by targeting his children, because that is what will affect him the most,” he said.
Weerawansa added that today the country’s law and order has become a big joke.
Weerawansa also claimed that Yoshitha Rajapaksa was not the chairman of the Carlton Sports Network. He also said that they will commence island wide demonstrations soon demanding Rajapaksa’s release as he is a political prisoner.
Meanwhile Weerawansa, along with Dinesh Gunawardena, Bandula Gunawardane, Udaya Gammanpila, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Gamini Lokuge, Dallas Allahapperuma and Johnston Fernando among others visited Yoshitha Rajapaksa at the Welikada prison this morning.
Former first lady Shiranthi, and her youngest son, Rohitha, and his girlfriend were also seen at the prison this morning. (By Munza Mushtaq © CT)

These penisless constituent party memmbers abuse Rajapakshes. THere is no other way them to stay in power. Gonwardhana, Buruwanse are all the same. They will have no political future in this country. Wasidewa would never get an erection again.
Rajapakshes if they have made BLACK money and made them in business – they should make the people clear where thoese 2.3million us dollars came from.
One law to them and others to all will never work under GOOD GOVERNANCE.. jaya niyathiai

The People of Sri Lanka will like it very much if you can:
1. Commit Suicide
2. Self-immolation with Petrol
The People of Sri Lanka will guarantee you and yeour buddies Nibbana.

Yes, patience and things getting systematic, the current regime will for sure corner wimalburuwanse the most known paranoid – selfish idiot, so called utra nationalist, manipulator – that will then work on the building society. Had I been law and order minister, I would have worked to corner WIMALBURUWANSE, GONMANPILA on the top of my agenda. If a cultivation to grow healthily, you need to remove all wild weeds, very same manner, we need to free the society from the kind of men – selfish politicians that have been a greater harm to lanken society.
Udaya Gomananplia to work neck and neck with Wimal Buruwanse is not thinable to any educated person.
Dayan Buruthilaka – being silent at the moment, but working with Buruwanse is not thinkable to any educated person.
Dayan Buruthilaak would never grasp it until it becomes enlarged. That is how he is brought up. He is a curse ot his family and the society as well.
I thought the kind of men such Dayan could teach the junior diplo community good lessons, but just being pompoous as if he is the only PhD holder of the Universe, behaving so snobish but to attack CBK, RW for the current regime – can only lead him to end up – as i ti sthe case for him today (cornered to his 4-walls, but with some access to join the TV programs – so called maxist but with all malicious thoughts.

What nonsense the MP is talking. What a Father and what a son. When the judiciary sets out in its pursuit of justice, the MP threatens boycott as a means of extra judicial pressure.
The Government, the Judiciary and the Police are now of sterner stuff. Let the unruly learn to take heed.

The only thing the so called joint opposition is doing is trying to protect the Rajapaksa family from prosecution for the numerous criminal activities they were involved in when they were in power. These useless bunch of racist politicians owe it to Rajapaksa for their return to parliament and in the future also they will have to depend on Rajapaksa for their survival in politics. They serve no purpose in the political scene of Sri Lanka today.

The first place Gonawardene should boycott is the Parliament – will
they do it? The people will learn more of their Politics and this is
a blessing in disguise.
There is no way out of Law and Order for MR1 Regime culprits and they
must be counting the days, now on, that one of them is in. Basil too
was taken in, but then to Gonawardene & gang it was not a “Political prisoner” story! Basil being a brother of the ex-President and his Minister was taken in – no one showed such emotional tantrums? Why.

Send the Buruwanse and Mara groups to Hell. Respect the Judiciary. Anyone found Guilty should be punished according to the Laws of the country. These thieves robbed the poor people’s money in Millions and enjoyed a luxury life importing luxury cars and women for their enjoyment.
The more these culprits boycott the Parliament sittings there will be peace in the country.

Where were you when the rathupaswala people were attacked by the military and killed. Where were you when Kuram Sheik was killed and his girlfriend raped by your henchmen.
You can’t fool all the people all the time. Karma is a BITCH. Enjoy your freedom cos your time is running out. Before the law runs you and the clan IN.

The boycott of these weasels does not add up to anything significant.Infact if they can stay at home permanently , all the better. These losers think too much of themselves.
As for all their complaints., these idiots have forgotten what Mahinda Rajapakaya and his gang did whilst in power, to people like Sarath Fonseka . Lasantha Wickremasinghe , Ekneligoda and so many thousands of others.

Dear Mr Dinesh Gunewardena,
AS a Leader of a political party of this country (however insignificant), you disappoint me so much, I am not sure whether to cry in anguish or laugh out loud! What a country this Sri Lanka is!
Dinesh, you have become so used to the dispensation of justice from the President’s chair, you cannot let go the coat tails of the former President on whom the likes of you relied for your survival during his hay day. This is why you still believe the same practice still prevails.
DEcide whether or not you want justice in this land meted equally or are there some, who are above the Law? Decide, man, decide. After all they say you are a lawyer!
Either way, do you think you have contributed to the establishment of Law and Order in this country, with this statement?
“…we will continue to boycott all State events until Sri Lankans get their rightful freedom,”
Freedom to pillage, abduct, murder, ….. with no questions asked? Is that what you want?
Boycott, man, Boycott. Your absence will not be felt one bit!
/

How dare Members of Parliament put this kind of pressure on the judiciary to change its decisions?
Will they attempt to interfere in court decisions more and more and dictate verdicts to juries as well?
/
G. Pandith / February 2, 2016
Not only public functions, they should boycott the Parliament too. What they say outside Parliament they don’t say in the floor of the Parliament, as those statements would be challenged. Why did MR not use his vote in the Parliament and absented himself during voting since coming to the Parliament last year.
