MR Says He Could Have Ruined Sajith Premadasa’s Politics

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said that when Sajith Premadasa’s sister, Dulanjali Premadasa was caught red handed with a large number of forged currency notes inside a bank, his government had never interfered in the investigation.

Sajith and MR clombotelegraphRajapaksa said that he could have remanded her and blown up the issue and put an end to her brother’s political career.

He said unlike the new government he never interfered in legal issues and had let the officials do their job.

Rajapaksa said while Dulanjalee had escaped Scott free after possessing a bundle of fake notes, a soldier who was caught with a single fake currency note at the time had gone to jail.

Rajapaksa said that one of his mistakes when in power had been that he was too tolerant and forgiving even to his political opponents.

Rajapaksa went on to say that however, those whom he protected today were attacking him mercilessly calling him a thief.

Dulanjalee Jayakody, daughter of former President R. Premadasa and sister of Minister Sajith Premadasa got caught when trying to deposit counterfeit notes worth Rs 2 million at the HSBC branch in Cinnamon Gardens some time back.

Dulanjali was informed by the bank that the entire amount of cash was fake.

Dulanjali had later informed that the currency was given to her by another person and she had come to deposit it without knowing they were fake. Later the Police had arrested the person who was identified by Dulanjali as the person who had given her the bundle of notes.

You have obstructed justice and fair play according to the whim and fancies of favoured people. These issues have promoted more criminal activities and today we experience the viciousness of this.

”Rajapaksa said while Dulanjali had escaped Scott free after possessing a bundle of fake notes, a soldier who was caught with a single fake currency note at the time had gone to jail”

Is MR admitting the justice system under his rule was not fair? Of course, he should not interfere with the judicial process. If he did not have faith in the system, he should have done something about it. After all, as the powerful President of the country, it’s his duty to ensure justice for everyone & nobody should be above the law (although uniquely in SL, the President is). In this case, is he implying that a grave injustice was done to a poor man, & knowingly did nothing about it?

A psychologist or a psychiatrist or even a priest of any religion will say that as a person who had a father figure in mind would do the same thing that Mr MR did. All religions and societies have informal systems of pardoning. In a western sense or a modern sense he should not have interfered, if he did so. Mrs Dulanjali Jayakody must have contacted the brother at once…bro contacted the then President…he put on the ELDERLY POLITICIAN’S or the No 1 Citizen’s cap & proudly helped Sajith’s sis Dulanjali with a feeling of compassion. He must have thought that the Banker would inform police and punish Mrs DJ.After all it is cultural too. Its not new to this world. Mr MR must have thought that Sajith was very ungrateful after he badmouthed the EX PRES. It was damaging to our system entirely, but Mr MR did not harm any individual. Les Miserables, Presidential Pardons like NIXON being pardoned by Ford come to mind. Singapore has a big reputation as a great business house. My informant tells me that a Sri Lankan Barrister was in Jail in 1984 for printing Counterfeit money. They send to Saudi often to change, according to him.

    Dear readers, note this:
1.Like Dulanjali… for generations, how many could have been doing such things boldly..in some families …as a practice? Qn. Could this be the first time, even if she innocently accepted the cash ? People normally do not carry cash like that now a days? What type of transaction was it that paid her that money?
    2. Who has statistics on losses to the banks in SL due to the circulation of dud money?

Proxy Chief Justice Rajapakse did not interfere with the law because he was the law, Police, Army, Navy, Airforce, judge, jury and executioner. All the other beggars were mere ‘Pambayas’.

Anyone knows who gave the fake money to ‘poor’ Dulanjali and why the investigation ‘disappeared’?

After all, it could not just have 2 Million, there had to be more involved and what was the payment the ‘giver’ made to Ms. Premadasa and what business is that related to?

Don’t forget it was her husband who stole valuable paintings from ‘Presidents House’ during her father’s time and tried to sell them in London many years later. Sotherby’s asked the Sri Lankan High Commission to authenticate these paintings – That was how the theft was discovered. Of course that episode disappeared into the filing cabinet too!

This is why Sri Lanka is the land of struggles since independence.
