Muddle, Confusion & Bewilderment

By Kumar David

Prof. Kumar David

The three words in my title usually denote much the same thing but their nuances are different. One or the other better fits the right-royal tangle that the Nandasena-Military-Executive cum Mahinda-Cabinet-SLPP two pronged bull-horn government of Sri Lanka has got itself into. Let me enumerate:

1. GoSL clearly has no economic policy, strategy or direction. It simply survives from day to day in a condition of bewilderment. How can anyone disagree with this?

2. There is confusion in how the authorities handle the covid pandemic. There is no clear division or hierarchy of authority; Army Silva and his 25 military supremoes – one per District – frankly admit that they are clueless about epidemiology – dire confusion prevails. You may not agree with this 100% but when you consider S Korea, Taiwan, HK, NZ and now even the US they are doing it much better.

3. Mahinda promised to let the Muslims bury their dead; his Minister of Health overruled him and told him to go to hell (no doubt at the instigation of Nandasena and the military). What a muddle!

4. Two leading racists in government, Weerawansa and Vasudeva have declared that it’s time Mahinda buggered-off and handed over leadership of the SLPP and the Parliamentary Group to Nandasena.

5. Multiple-murder convicts have been pardoned by Nandasena in response to demands by monks.

6. Harin Fernando has been promised the funeral rites of a dog. Points 4, 5 and 6 inspire no confidence.

7. Dees anyone know what’s going on about Chinese renewable energy proposals on three islands off Jaffna? Have the Indians made a counter offer which has been rejected? What’s the GoSL stance?

8. Eastern Container Terminal, Japanese funded light-rail project, Trinco oil-storage facilities, MCC-RIP; can even the government’s most splendorous friends deny that the muddle is disastrous?

9. The Great Kahn has arrived. Just this morning I had an email from a friend who threw up his hands in horror declaring “How Insane is this!?” First they insulted Imran withdrawing an invitation to address parliament, now they have prohibited him from meeting SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem and ACMA leader Rishad Bathiudeen. I should have enhanced by title by adding “Insanity”.

10. And now it’s Geneva Season. The regime has no visible strategy for compromise, accountability and winning friends. The Chinese and Russians will have to deliver the votes since GoSL seems foxed.

Any reader of my column knows that I am unsympathetic to this regime because I fear it is determined to impose an authoritarian, military led state on Sri Lanka. Some may disagree with my allegation and some (indeed many of my pro-Gota friends) are of the view that this is the best thing to do. Ok we can have our differences on fundamentals. But I candidly and sincerely ask regime supporters who may like to comment on this column: “Is it unfair to allege that the GR-MR regime is confused, muddled and bewildered”? Less than 15 months after Gota was elected as President, his regime seems to have completely lost its way – True or False?

    Dear Prof. KD@

Thank you – one could not say it better.
    .

Anyone with some sanity would say ” yes we agree with you 200%”. But the saddest reality is, that majority of srilankens have lost their senses for some reasons: Even if they lovely ones would have been targeted, they contine to be indifferent.

Loads of high crimes in post war episodes, committed by Gota-Mara were public secret. nevertheless, fake news was able to twist the gullible mind set of the voters to that extent, they were blessed with unexpected mandate

Just got an invitation from Sri Lanka High Commission in London to attend to their Zoom meeting to view this video. Now that I have watched it politely turned down the invite as I have better things to do that listening to their lies.

But having seen this video on you tube there is nothing new here to rattle the UNHRC
We all know LTTE committed crimes as well.
Why did it take so long for Karuna & Pillaiyan to put together this video?

I got the invitation, and when I told the participants that I am a medical witness to war crimes committed by security forces, and that the worst crime was by STF who forcibly inserted a grenade into the vagina of a Tamil woman and exploded it, the High Commission staff cut off the connection. So much for freedom of expression.

The truth is that most of the 6.9 million are incapable of thinking straight. They will vote for anyone who comes along and shouts “Hambayo / Kotiyo enawo!!!” From the nearest temple. There are no real thinkers in this class. How can anyone who thinks believe in Dhammika paniya or try to control the price of rice by gazette? So “muddle, confusion, and bewilderment” are only to be expected.
There will be more bewilderment when Sarath Weerasekara opens bis mouth at the UN. His attitude will only confirm the suspicions of states that haven’t made up their minds.
The only people benefiting from this regime are the fixers and contractors like Duluth Jayaweera, Udayanga the Ukraine procurer and others like the ones currently creating stock market bubbles for the gullible.
No, from Nandasena down, there are no brains in this regime.

So much for poor Kumar David’s efforts!
      *
When a young Englishman handed Gandhi a letter, running into a few sheets and full of abuse, Gandhi went through it, took out the pin that held the sheets together, and threw away the sheets.
Rather irritated, the young man asked him whether he did not find anything useful in his letter.
Gandhi responded with a smile: “I have already collected what is useful”.
      *
Poor Kumar, what seems useful in his text is his offensive language.
I suppose that there is a problem as there is no pin to collect.

        Dear SJ,
        .
“Offensive language”? I grant that Kumar is being a bit flippant, and he’s using a more colloquial idiom than he usually employs.
        .
He is clear in what he says; there’s no distortion.
        .
Professor Laksiri Fernando’s article, referred to by me below, and appreciated by Rutnam Nadarajah, is redolent with distortion and innuendo.

Would the muddle have been less had the COVID not come along? That landslide victory was because even the Rajapaksas may have thought that they had handled COVID well; even I thought so!

Mercifully, a vaccine is being given, and this week the “numbers” appear to be a little lower. “500-cases” instead of the 900s which we were seeing.

Opposed to this regime we may have been from the beginning, but I’m not contemplating economic ruin with equanimity.

However, I had a chance to read, especially your valid and candid facts/comments
I always thought this man LF was /is a decent human being, who cares for wellbeing all SriLankans . How wrong one could be. The venom in his article could be felt as you read the lines. It’s all lies and more lies. He is only adding fuel to the already burning inferno

All 10 summations are at their very best. Bold, accurate and telling. With respect I have for Dr.K.D. I have to mention one reservation. “I fear it is determined to impose an authoritarian, military led state on Sri Lanka”.
The process of riveting is already on, for everyone to see and to acknowdge.

      Momentous20,
Good one. Adorable feature in the comment is your careful wording to make appear polite.

I believe Professor wanted to keep his opinion in low profile here. But he earnestly believe, as you are saying, the autocratic government is already born. After seeing Communist Denesh’s bravery, I believe they have no fear for IC. After all, the video is something produced in a Rapist Army’s torture Bunker. There is no recognition for UN or UNHRC in the room he was making it. Only rowdy Vijeya’s Grandpa’s flag is there.

  • 4
    3

I said earlier that any resolution is a defeat to Royal Aanduwa. Any resolution without referral to UN SC is a defeat to Tamils as it will not allow any new initiation until 2022. Yahapalanaya refused to implement Resolution 30/1. I am not sure in what grounds Tamils to expect anything to happen with passing a resolution like that once again. But the sad part on Lankawe is even if they win in this sitting, the annual parade to Geneva is unlikely go away from them. The Quveni ghost is likely to continue to possess them. So it cannot be the final victory. The victory may solve nothing at home, but loss will certainly cost the provincial election, if they conduct one. If the loss of UNHRC is not costing the election economy, Finance, China- other countries tug of war, Tamil – Muslims rights and the Covid-19…….. will do it. So, Denesh’ video to UNHRC is only a show piece here, but not to achieve anything for Royals.
Other side, the Tamils need not be predicted, it is a sure loss this time. So, for few days there is chance for Royals to eat Kiribath. Last two years America was not in the show. This time they are only spectators. I believe with the next election at the end of the year, they could be back in at UNHRC.

  • 5
    4

If America is back in, will it change the resolution’s nature, i.e. just extending the resolution 30/1 (or below it). America said just before the sitting, that if HC Bachelet’s report is adopted, they would follow it. So far America is the only country has enforced travel ban on Rapist Army officials. So one can expect, minimum that is to be extended on more officials. Lankawe is not ordinary planners. They stay ahead of the game. Their fear is about West stopping their exports. That was the reason Old Chitanta government was negotiating with China to take over the tea Estate. Now they have made a deal with China to market retail tea there. One is, it cannot be big export & the other is, Chinese are unlikely to change over to foreign tea. Chinese stores market many variation & flavors of their tea. Lankawe cannot be that much creative to compete in Retail tea Industry. During Chitanta, Lankawe wanted to relabel the garments in China and sell it in West. That may not go well with GSP+. But it would work when Lankawe lose its GSP+. If they find out a solution to the exporting problem to West, they may puff off Indian trade. Other than Vietnam, nobody else effective get off American war and sanctions.

We all know that the current GoSL is racist one and it came to power on lies being told to GULLIBLE Sinhalese. The
Easter Tragedy which happened few months prior to Presidential Election HELPED NGR to easily win over Sajith P who was not helped by another LOSER (Shrewd Fox JR’s Nephew
—>RW ). I would say that the REAL peace loving law abiding Lankan is confused and bewildered of what’s happening in their Motherland and on how it’s going to end. Hopefully not in another bloodshed of those who quiz the GoSL. What’s going to be the end?

Was all of this unexpected from the presidency of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his cabinet of cronies and family, and the characters of the SLPP majority government under premier Mahinda Rajapaksa?
    +
Any reasonable, fair minded, functionally literate person with an average amount of common sense would have foreseen all the confused, muddled, and madly insane road(s) through which the this regime would be leading the country.
    +
Authoritarian, military-led racist state wasn’t the only concern from the inception of Gotabaya’s candidacy for the presidency.
    +
When did Gotabaya Rajapaksa utter anything that screamed “intellect” and “competence”? It’s pathetic even when he reads pre-prepared speeches. Then again, the majority of the voters weren’t looking for intellect and competence needed for progress which they not know of.
    +
The facade of the Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour may have been pretty but democracy wasn’t a tenet. Then again this regime and its voter-base do not understand the fundamentals of a democracy. These folks think ‘all is game if you have majority votes’!
    +
It will be useful for someone to write-up a ‘fully comprehensive’ review on the current regime, more so than a supply of sensational fodder from the tasting-menus.

If anyone thinks imposing an authoritarian regime under this family of crooks and murders is a good idea then they should all be locked up in a mental ward. Why does it never sink in that there are some defining characteristics all bad and some worse that always happens under them. Cruelty, the need to exact revenge on perceived enemies by bastardizing the legal system and law enforcement, robbery of state assets by the family, Wanton pilledging of the environment with total disregard to the damage done, the list goes on. And you have friends who still support this disaster? Look at their members of parliament and their level of education all good?? Finally do you retards who still think this is a good idea understand anything about economics and finance. Do you not get that Nivard Cabraal robbed way more money form the central bank than anyone else?

Do you not understand that this family has a cabal of Muslim darlings who a. produce falsified documents for them and b. Finance their elections and c. Are allowed import tariff exemptions robbing the country of vital revenue to the tune of tens of billions. So much for the need for a strong authoritarian leader to keep the Muslims and Tamils in their place. Do you not understand that growing turmeric is not going to bail us out of debt? Do you think China will keep granting these incompetent idiots more and more money with no strings attached?

    1. GoSL clearly has no economic policy, strategy or direction.
True, but has it not been also true of the predecessor?
    2. There is confusion in how the authorities handle the covid pandemic.
True. But is the pandemic such a terrible killer that it will lead to a crisis?
    3. Mahinda promised to let the Muslims bury their dead; his Minister of Health overruled him.
That is a serious sign of dissent. It is for theMuslim leaders to take note.
    4. Weerawansa and Vasudeva have declared that it’s time Mahinda…handed over leadership…to Nandasena.
This is a lesson for MR for accelerating 20A. He could have delayed it so that he held a trump card. Lasantha W. had warned MR about GR in his personal communication months before he was killed.
    5. Multiple-murder convicts have been pardoned in response to demands by monks.
Part of the ideology I guess.
    6. Harin Fernando has been promised the funeral rites of a dog.
    As above.
    7. Chinese renewable energy proposals on three islands off Jaffna? Have the Indians made a counter offer which has been rejected? What’s the GoSL stance?

The government is not only muddled, confused and bewildered, it is also befuddled, confounded, baffled, nonplussed, beleaguered and bedevilled! One more item must be added to the list of economic muddles. The government is giving a lot of medicines and special care to a sick and lame horse in a desperate attempt to get it to run, namely the Mattala International Airport. At the same time, they have shackled and put in indefinite quarantine a strong and healthy horse that is willing to run hard and fast, which is the Jaffna International Airport. For some reason they do not want the Jaffna Airport to perform better than the Mattala Airport even though this is costing the economy dearly.

Today the redacted report on Easter is out but does not answer many questions. Puts the blame squarely on MS recommending criminal action against him. On hind sight it shows how Lanka deals with such tragedies.1) Initially MS appoints a commission just to clear his name. 2)Then PSC nominates one but Rajapaksas and MS refuse to cooperate. 3)The report is not released by previous government because they needed MS until their end.4) Rajapaksas had no intention of releasing the report but wanted to appoint a new one to save MS for their 2/3 majority. 5)But MS who committed the crime was well aware of the report and tried making wail threats of withdrawing his support. 6)To counter and keep MS on leash, Rajapaksas have decided to release the report. 7)Now MS is left with no options other than serving Rajapaksas, so that no action will be taken.(or delayed).8) They hit two birds with a single stone. MS will go down as traitor in history and not Presidential Thatha (pay back )9)What is there for politician Ranjith is anyone guess. There are many questions unanswered in this puzzle which will help in connecting the dots between MS and Rajapaksas. The only way the Mafia can now clear their name is by taking action. Lets wait and see.

    KD,
“Less than 15 months after Gota was elected as President, his regime seems to have completely lost its way – True or False?”

    False!
It is unfair to allege that the GR-MR regime is confused, muddled and bewildered. That was the situation prevailed during ‘Jadapalana’ Government when we had ‘Ela Haraka and Mee Haraka’ combination. GR-MR regime is million times better that Ranil-Sirisena regime. If Covid-19 pandemic came during that time God knows what would have happened to people in this country.

What your pro-Gota friends say is true. Sinhalayo are fed up with the rotten democracy prevailed in this country that allowed minorities to play hell and ruined the country.

I am digressing here guys because I read a terrible news in a Tamil web called Tamilwin.com. I did not give the link here because as it is not in English, CT will not allow it. Anybody can read Tamil may like to read it there. It carries a taped conversation in that a person introducing herself as Sungunan Teacher, a Chemistry teacher from a Batticlola School. She claims a fatherless boy has talked filth with her boy. Both appears to be in her school. In the telephone call she is issuing open warning that she would make the fatherless boy disappear not just from school, but even from Batticola. The way she used “Batticola” sounds like “earth”. The Web reported her and her husband are associated with a Paramilitary eminent political figure, but didn’t name. Latter, husband threatened to take action on those who shared the clip in social media. She is saying that she has been ignoring the fatherless child in the school only to avoid something too big happening. That is telling that this boy has been on her list to make involuntary disappearance for some. She challenges the mother of the boy that she can even go to ministers and see if ministers can stop her actions on the boy. Please everybody write to your local Tamil MPs to take this clip to parliament and demand action to tame this wild woman.

Please use the right platform for your educative or awakening call to voice justice to the affected. This article and your comments not at all relevant and ill informed in CT. As far as I heard Tamilwin.com is not a local media outlet, neither follow ethical journalism when reporting matters. Its headlines are like pornographic excitement for youngsters to visit the news item and actual details never in sync with headlines. This platform most of the time publish translated articles wrote elsewhere without thanking the original author or the media unit. Therefore, there is no credibility to this website in question. Please use your commonsense. I admit I may be wrong as well.

        Dayan,
We are not willing to be distracted by the action rating Tamilwin.com here, for their fault of piercing the mask a paramilitary connected teacher, by passing her professional authority and taking a telephone calls to students’ parents to warn of a pending kidnaps. She was not trained in the protocol of making complain of students’ actions to their parents. Education department must apologize for that.

How do you connect your paramilitary judgement of my “worse from the likes of you” to a policy of sticking to the original language? Oranges & Apples? You are confusing between Two: One is about free-media; other one is about stupidity of cutting the branch one sitting. One is That is the arrogance of b(p)igheadedness of a real Pannadai. You let the juice to flow though to save your Hitlers’ from their rowdyism in schools. I always wonder how did those students quenched their thirst from a Pannadai instead a deep pot, where only one can taste some juice.

The way she used “Batticola” sounds like “earth”.
      *
“Batticola” sounds more like Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola to me.

        Thanks Savams!

I know you will bounce back here because
1). that website will not entertain your comments, there so you are dependent on CT to spew venom on your enemies.
2). The person Identified is Paramilitary.
3). The Rowdy teach in question has been temporarily transferred by educational official. So you would take it as defeat for Royal Aanduwa.
4). Like Dr. Thiyagalimgam’s UOJ case, this too seems to be professional jealous, overloaded on boys cracking filthy joke to each other. This getting caught is itching terribly to you.

Prof. KD: “Muddle”, “Confused” and “Bewilderment” are all placed in “PERPENDICULAR” to the establishment of a “MILITARY REGIME” and a “DICTATORSHIP”. The “First Phase” is to “MUDDY” the whole set up of the Government Machinery (Legislature, Executive & Judiciary), and this “Regine” of “GR & Co, Inc,” is presently engaged in that process from within and outside (Internationally). Hope my comment will answer you.

” GoSL clearly has no economic policy, strategy or direction. It simply survives from day to day in a condition of bewilderment. How can anyone disagree with this?”

The problem is not Gota but these idiots who want to divide the country or sell it to the highest bidder. This includes joker Ranil, biggest loser in the history of politics. GOSL has to waste valuable resources making sure these people are under control. Sinhalese are not racist, they elected Maithree over Mahinda. That was not enough for the minorities, they attacked churches and blew up hotels. What is the logical response of the voter now, other than to elect Gota. If minorities and other interested parties keep pressing for international sanctions, war crimes investigations, federalism, etc. you will have generations of Rajapakse in charge of the government.

    Dear Prof

You have indeed listed items all requires attention. Pointing a finger at GR-MR not sure is the solution to the issues..there are multitude of issues requires the same attention ..

    (1) The fingers should be pointed at the Tamil and Muslim parties as to why they have not lost their identity and not pooling around the regime to give them their brain power/undivided attention/not brining in outsiders unwanted & unwarranted illegitimate outside forces into our National fray to interrupt the flow??

    (2) These parties should set example to all others through their action to subscribe to “oneness” not the current postures. They do not realise their capacity to humble the like minded Sinhalese..a peace offering well overdue from these trouble makers.

    (3) Then we know what capacity we “have” or “do not have” for the respective services..where we need to get the “International Sri Lankans” to contribute constructively?.

    (4) A strong leadership has given a climate of safety/platform (where foreign trained Mother Lankan children do not run around and kill their fellow man and woman under the instruction of the ghetto parties) the above expertise working very hard to Nation Build. This is the sacrifice the armed forces have made to make all else is possible??
