The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) has hailed the statement issued by Dalai Lama that called upon extremist and violent Buddhist organizations in Sri Lanka and Myanmar to refrain from resorting to violence against Muslims.

MCSL had appreciated Dalai Lama’s comment in which he had stated, “I urge the Buddhists in these countries to imagine an image of Buddha before they commit such a crime,” while adding his words should be the starting point of a collaborated effort by all communities to ‘practice their true religion and strive towards understanding and peace’.
The MCSL Vice President Hilmy Ahamed in his statement had also thanked the majority of Buddhists including parliamentarians, religious leaders and other citizens who supported the Muslims during the anti-Muslim clashes that erupted in Southern Sri Lanka, by saving their lives and protecting their property.
However, Dalai Lama’s comments were not received so well by every faction in Sri Lanka; Buddhist monk Elle Gunawansa had criticized Dalai Lama’s words and it was quoted by in the daily English newspaper, Daily Mirror.

First of all, Srilanka never been a pure Buddhist Country. And it will never be one. The influence of Buddhism in politics has lead this country in to a living hell. When you check the human rights record of Srilanka you will understand that we are not practicing Buddhism in the pure form. Now Srilanka is one of the dangerous places on Earth to live. As a person born and brought up in this country, I am ashamed to be called a Srilankan.
How can a practicing Buddhist justify the massacre of more than 150,000 civilians as “Humanitarian rescue mission” ?. We all watched and encouraged the genocide happened in front of our eyes. We celebrate the destruction of one of our co-communities. We kept lying to the outside World that we are carrying out a war with zero civilian casualties and at one point we started believing our own lies. And we still call ourselves, Buddhists ??
How can a Buddhist monk justify the killings of innocents Muslims under the name of saving Buddhism ? How can we call ourselves Buddhist when we burn down Mosques and houses of innocents ?
If we can do all these atrocities to our own countrymen and still call ourselves Buddhists, then we have all the reasons to be ashamed of .

Dalai is the retired political head. He is not a Rin Poche and from the likes of it you have never met them. They mostly speak French and Swiss French apart from Tibetan.
Gautama was born a Hindu and died a Hindu. His scripts written after 500 years are seen in Tao,Confucius of the same time and China has most of Gautama statues, Longman Grottoes – so why an Indian unless he is great.

To Modaya, Worship is all you are trained to do throughout life, from childhood days worshiping parents, students do it to teachers, all Buddhists to dead bodies and helpless statues, monks (however sinful they may be), Bo saplings and trees, fire, political leaders and on and on, the list is endless.
