At a meeting organised by Muslim Rights Organization in Colombo on April 23 participated by All Ceylon jam Iyyahthul Ulama ( Council of Theologians) (ACJU) President, Ulamas & Muslim politicians of UPFA, UNP and SLMC on the issue of Dambulla Mosque attack, has been agreed that this Friday the 27th to be declared as an “All Island Black Friday” with full day Hartal and protest to be carried out from Dewatagaha Jummah Masjid soon after Jummah Prayers.
Muslim activists, religious and political leaders to meet today (28th) at Hotel Nipon to take the final decision against religious harassments in Sri Lanka organise under new banner. Meanwhile Colombo Telegraph learnt that the government is doing everything to stop the Island wide Hartal.

Whilst the Muslim community is perfectly entitled to call for an all Island hartal, it is not advisable for community relations in my opinion. The always minority complexed Sinhala Buddhist radicals, egged on by the racist Jathika Hela Urumaya, will get scared of the power of the Muslim community, as they will see the numbers, and economic clout they have considering the size of their community numbers.
This is not the time to teach the Government a lesson in pandering to racists. It is best to do this in a democratic format of elections, and NOT vote for a Muslim party, further inflaming communalism. Voting in the Muslim party will just give the Government more power.
So instead of giving into some racist Muslim radicals, think how your interests can best be served in a United Sri Lanka where you are allowed to prosper without being harrassed and discriminated. Just think who can offer that alternative. Think!!!! You have got brains haven’t you?

The government can stop this hartal by ordering an impartial inquiry into the attack on Dambulla mosque by thugs in yellow robes etc. How can the PM order the mosque to be demolished without any proper legal procedures?

No doubt the Hartal will be peaceful and should be a wake up call to the govt. The extremist elements like JHU must be kicked out if this country is to unite and prosper since most of the Sinhalese majority are peace loving and want to live in harmony with the other communities.

Why is the MR govt. frightened? Trying it’s best to stop this hartal scheduled for Friday? Why not show their bravado using the Forces to disperse in the usual manner using tear gas, water cannons or even shooting a couple of them as they handled the FTZ workers. Why this different treatment, one for the Sinhalese FTZ workers and the Fisherman and another approach here for the Muslims? Anyway it is good to know the dog is not biting all the time but only barking all the time.

I think it is not a good decision to call for a Hartal, which has the potential to ignite a communal riot and cause too much losses to the Muslims. Also, the jealous elements will succeed in their plans if such losses occur.
Muslim leaders should guide the community through the teachings of the Prophet in this very sensitive case and should not give in to emotions.
Making a temporary arrangement to conduct prayers outside the so called sacred area and solving this issue through legal channels would be a good option.

I feel a Hartal is not going to help the Muslims and better to be guided by the Jamaiuthul Ulama in this regard. I just heard they only wanted the Muslims to fast and observe in Duas etc. I am sure that should have a greater impact on solving this problem in a decent manner than shouting slogans, hartal etc like what politicians expect us to do.
