Muslims: What Really Went Wrong!

By Imtiyaz Razak –

Dr. Imtiyaz Razak

Dr. Imtiyaz Razak

The fact is that Muslims of the world are among the poorest of the poor and Muslims in the Muslim majority societies and non-Muslim majority societies in Asia and Africa are heavily struggling to embrace modernization due to economic and social backwardness.

There are several reasons as to why there is poverty and social backwardness among Muslims. I would like to share some easy but strong fact to have your opinions.

The combined annual GDP of 57 Muslim countries remains under $2 trillion. America , just by herself, produces goods and services worth $10.4 trillion; China $6 trillion, Japan $3.5 trillion and Germany $2.1 trillion. Even India ‘s GDP is estimated at over $3 trillion (purchasing power parity basis). Oil rich Saudi Arabia , U.A.E., Kuwait and Qatar collectively produce goods and services (mostly oil) worth $430 billion; Netherlands alone has a higher annual GDP while Buddhist Thailand produces goods and services worth $429 billion.

Poor-MuslimsMuslims are 22 percent of the world population and produce less than five percent of global GDP. Even more worrying is that the Muslim countries’ GDP as a percent of the global GDP is going down over time.

The Arabs, it seems, are particularly worse off. According to the United Nations’ Arab Development Report: “Half of Arab women cannot read; One in five Arabs live on less than $2 per day; Only 1 percent of the Arab population has a personal computer, and only half of 1 percent use the Internet; Fifteen percent of the Arab workforce is unemployed, and this number could double by 2010; The average growth rate of the per capita income during the preceding 20 years in the Arab world was only one-half of 1 percent per annum, worse than anywhere but sub-Saharan Africa.”

The planet’s poorest countries include Ethiopia , Sierra Leone , Afghanistan , Cambodia , Somalia , Nigeria , Pakistan and Mozambique. At least six of the poorest of the poor are countries with a Muslim majority. Fifty-seven Muslim majority countries have an average of ten universities each for a total of less than 600 universities for 1.4 billion people; India has 8,407 universities, the U.S. has 5,758. From within 1.4 billion  Muslims.

Over the past 105 years, 1.4 billion Muslims have produced eight Nobel Laureates while a mere 14 million Jews have produced 167 Nobel Laureates. Of the 1.4 billion Muslims less than 300,000 qualify as ‘scientists’, and that converts to a ratio of 230 scientists per one million Muslims. The United States of America has 1.1 million scientists (4,099 per million); Japan has 700,000 (5,095 per million). Fact: Of the 1.4 billion Muslims 800 million are illiterate (6 out of 10 Muslims cannot read). In Christendom, adult literacy rate stands at 78 percent. Consider, for instance, that Muslims constitute 22 percent of world population with a 1 percent share of Nobel Prizes. Jews constitute 0.23 percent of world population with a 22 percent share of Nobel Prizes.

THE fact is that Muslims are poor, illiterate and weak. What went wrong? Arriving at the right diagnosis is extremely critical because the prescription depends on it.

    Very good fair minded analysis.

Unfortunately the extremists among us will not see this. They will attack you instead thinking then the problems will go away!!

    There is another side.

MOST violent killings in the world everyday is either done by Muslims or done to Muslims. In both cases MOST victims are Muslims.

If not for oil in Muslim countries Muslims are nothing.

That too is now being robbed by the west.

e.g. Iraq, Libya, Iran, Sudan, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazhakstan, Uzbekistan, etc., soon Saudi too.

So Muslims will be even poorer in ten years time.

The answer to the question!!! Why? lies on the holy book of Muslims.

I know this is hurting, but the simple truth is…..

        1. A religion that ask their followers to murder, scare or hurt non-followers will never get balanced mind. They will spend time planning to destroy other people, instead of making any fruitful contribution to the man-kind.

In the past Muslims have murdered millions of people, burnt down great cities including comprehensive libraries (eg. Nalanda, Alexandria), converted non-followers by fear and tear. In the modern civilized world such acts are almost impossible, thus they kill one another in their own uncivilized spheres; simply because they cannot get away from their killing instinct induced by the readings of Holy Book.

        2. A religion that corner women, deprive them of education and skill development, order men to hit them with a stick for disobedience(again defined by men)will never gain prosperity.

When you keep the women only for sex and children upbringing you cut down the societal development force by 50%. You start sliding to the depths of poverty. Few Muslim countries such as Malaysia that have rejected these Muslim traditions (may be due to strong Hindu-Buddhist influence) have better economies than other countries.

There are many other crystal clear points which make the reasons for Muslim countries being poor and becoming poorer. But no time to waste writing such for a community that will never listen to others (again due to the teaching of the Holy Book)

The photo actually shows one that muslims are addicted to sex.

They dont give a toss they just like to produce and expect pity.

One legged muslim in the UAE has 100 wives- so addicted to sex race and religion. If one gets addicted the purpose of life is lost. muslims should have nalli cut than tip cut- start fuckfusima.

Thanks for your summary. If you plot the literacy rate, and income per capita against the Percentage of Muslims in a country, there is a pretty good correlation.

The Culprits? Christians overcame the problem with the Enlightenment. There was no Enlightenment because of the Ulemas and the Clerics.

      1. The above are today’s Muslim facts, 1,400 years after Islam. Why, because the Muslims are in the Dark Ages, Now, under the leadership of the Mullahs and Ulema, who wanted to maintain their hegemony, and they prevent by their edits and Fatwas, the masses.

      2. However, within the first 400 years of Islam, this was not the case. It took that long for the Ulema and Clerics to establish their hegemony, and interpret Islam for the masses.

One of the Early Culprits. Hamid Al Ghazali,a who lived around 1,200 AD, and the downgrading of the Islamic Natural Philosophers. Mathematics was the work of the devil. In fact it it is the Ulama, who ate the work of the devil along with the Wahhabis, the curse of Muslims and Mankind.

These Ulema and Tribals have prevented Polio to be eradicated from the Tribal Areas of Pakistan tan and from Nigeria.

However, there ewer reform movements, Turkey Kamal Ataturk. ad many others.

        Dear Mr. Imtiyaz Razak,

“THE fact is that Muslims are poor, illiterate and weak. What went wrong? Arriving at the right diagnosis is extremely critical because the prescription depends on it.”

Christians overcame this deficiency in the 16th Century with the Age of Enlightenment.

This is an excellent question to ask from every Muslim, Every Christian, Every Buddhist, Every Jew. Every Hindi, Every Atheist and Every Agnostics.

Identifying the Problem, is 95% of the Solution, said Bertrand Russel, a Philosopher.

It was Hamid Al Ghazali, who elevated Revelation above Reason and Investigation, and gave the upper hand to the Ulema and Mullahs that generally set in motion the decline.

Like the Separation of Church and State, Muslims need the Separation of the Ulama and Mullah from the people. Muslims should be taught all the subjects, not just merely memorizing the Quran and Hadith. They need to develop critical thinking skills. The current systems in most Muslim countries produce Muslim sheep who are trained to obey the Ulema and Mullahs.

Start by distancing from the Ulemas and Mullahs. ( This applied to Buddhists as well, get Away from the crazy monks, who do not follow the Buddha)

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ghazali

Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ghazālī (c. 1058–1111). known as Al-Ghazali or Algazel to the Western medieval world, was a Muslim theologian, jurist, philosopher, and mystic of Persian descent.[5]

        Incoherence of the Philosophers

His 11th century book titled The Incoherence of the Philosophers marks a major turn in Islamic epistemology. The encounter with skepticism led al-Ghazali to embrace a form of theological occasionalism, or the belief that all causal events and interactions are not the product of material conjunctions but rather the immediate and present Will of God.
The Incoherence also marked a turning point in Islamic philosophy in its vehement rejections of Aristotle and Plato. The book took aim at the falasifa, a loosely defined group of Islamic philosophers from the 8th through the 11th centuries (most notable among them Avicenna and Al-Farabi) who drew intellectually upon the Ancient Greeks. Al-Ghazali bitterly denounced Aristotle, Socrates and other Greek writers as non-believers and labeled those who employed their methods and ideas as corrupters of the Islamic faith.[citation needed]

In the next century, Averroes drafted a lengthy rebuttal of al-Ghazali’s Incoherence entitled The Incoherence of the Incoherence; however, the epistemological course of Islamic thought had already been set.[citation needed]
This long-held argument has been disputed. Some argue that al-Ghazali was the first intellectual to champion the separation between several disciplines wrongly classified under falsafa (Arabic word for philosophy but one that used to include physics, maths and logic).[13] “Al-Ghazali argued that some fundamentalists, who perceive falsafa to be incompatible with religion, tend to categorically reject all views adopted by ‘philosophers’, including scientific facts like the lunar and solar eclipses. And when that person is later persuaded of a certain view, he tends to blindly accept all other views held by philosophers”.[13

What happened to Muslims due to Talibanisation of their religion by Mullahs is happening right now to Buddhists under the influence of Hela Urumaya, Bodu Bala Sena and Sihala Ravaya. They are working day and night to destroy the rationality and compassion upon which Buddhism was built by Gautama Buddha. Eventually Buddhism will be thalibanised in the process.

    Dr Razak,

What do you think are the reasons for the sorry state of Muslims in the world today?

In my opinion there are possibly three factors – religious extremism, oppression of their womenfolk by their male dominated societies and overpopulation. These three combined together to make the Muslim countries unstable, violent and poor. There is no point blaming the West for your ills because you are your worst enemies.

        Muslims: What Really Went Wrong!

The ulema, therefore, are guardians to a return to jahiliyah for Muslims.

Just one Word Ulema, ythe plural of Ulama.

        http://middleeast.about.com/od/u/g/ulema-definition.htm

        Ulema or Ulama
        By Pierre Tristam

Definition: Ulama, also spelled Ulema, is the plural of alim, Arabic for “man of knowledge,” teacher or authority. Alim is derived from the term ilm, or belief in God.
The opposite of alim is jahl, meaning ignorance. jahilia or jahiliyah refers, usually derisively, to the period in Islam before Islam–the period of ignorance, in Islamic teaching. Both terms–alim and jahl–appear frequently in the Koran. The ulema, therefore, are guardians against a return to jahiliyah.

The ulema as a class are men of knowledge in Sunni Islam who have been trained in the religious sciences such as the Koran, Sunnah, hadith, sharia, and so on, and who exercise their authority in the mosque or in madrassas. As such, they are similar to a clergy.

Since the late 18th century, alim has also been applied to secular men of science or learning. A alim may lead prayers and deliver the Friday sermon, but also perform rituals at marriages, birth, deaths and other such occasions.

One reason may be, to be brutally frank, Muslims are generally conspiring to destroy those of other cultures and faiths around them.
So where is the time and effort to educate and improve themselves.
The filthy rich Arabs invest as partners and act as cohorts with Jewish
banks and businesses in the West and give a damn to the poorer Arabs or Muslims. The world has begun to discover the conspiracy of the incredible birth rates in societies in which Muslims are minorities in that now-exposed grand design to take over the world. But anyone bringing this to the notice of the world are set upon – as that happened to India’s Dr. Subramaniam Swamy – the Harvard Don. In the UK, Thailand, Burma, Central African Republic, East Africa and many other countries natives are beginning to tackle the evil within them.
That is not to say this is done by all Muslims. In all these countries it is seen the peaceful Muslims are beginning to resist the violent activists among them. This is happening in Sri Lanka too.

      Its the other way round.

Look at UK – ALL mosques in UK have been attacked one way or the other since 9/11. UK is a Christian country.

Burma and SL – Buddhists attacking mosques.

India – Hindus destroying historical mosques.

Palestine – Jews destroying mosques everyday.

So Muslims are also attacked by others. Others are not saints.

        FatFuk

Like many other readers, I simply ignore your asinine comments.
It is utterly worthless providing even remote recognition to your convoluted thinking.

Indians and Jews destroying Mosques are figments of your disturbed mind. The Ramjamnabhoomi issue in Ayodya (UP) has a different history of its own. It is quite possible much of the world has lost its tether on this menace within. The Israelis are said to have resolved, in the event of a nuclear war forced on to them by mad Arabs, they will spare the Kaba in Makkah – because of its historic importance. That is religious tolerance, if it comes to that.

A more loving and plural world will soon force World Islam to change towards love, compassion, peaceful coexistence and modern civilised ways. Scholars in Egypt and Turkey will lead the way. It is time to leave behind the Neanderthal and stone age world and thinking and smell the roses.

Dr. Razack has outlined the issues that beset the Muslims and, without wishing to be patronising, I would say there are enough erudite Muslims who can address the challenges and suggest workable solutions. The truth is that after Saladin and the Ottomans, Muslims stagnated without strong leaders who would show them the way EXCEPT for the great KEMAL ATATURK. Otherwise, modern Turkey, the shining exemption would not have been founded. Luckily, Turkey will not take any lessons or stand any nonsense from other Arab leaders. Look at Turkey and learn some valuable lessons.

Author has got his figures mixed up.

“Oil rich Saudi Arabia , U.A.E., Kuwait and Qatar collectively produce goods and services (mostly oil) worth $430 billion; Netherlands alone has a higher annual GDP while Buddhist Thailand produces goods and services worth $429 billion.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)
    16 Indonesia 878,043 Mn USD
    17 Turkey 788,299 Mn USD
19 Saudi Arabia 711,050 Mn USD
    21 Iran 551,588 Mn USD

    28 Thailand 385,694 Mn USD

Islam measures success not in terms of these worldly indicators but by piety and good deeds leading to success in the eternal life hereafter

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verses 18-21:

18 If any do wish for the transitory things (of this life), We readily grant them–such things as We will, to such persons as We will: in the end have We provided Hell for them: they will burn therein disgraced and rejected.

19 Those who do wish for the (things of) the Hereafter, and strive therefore with all due striving, and have Faith; they are the ones whose striving is acceptable (to Allah).

20 Of the bounties of thy Lord, We bestow freely on all these, as well as those: the bounties of thy Lord are not closed (to anyone).

21 See how We have bestowed more on some than on others; but verily the Hereafter is more in rank and gradation, and more in excellence.

      Dear Dr. M L Najimudeen,

“Sudan is one of the poor Muslim country. If one billion USD is given to them, they can become a very fertile land and a rich country. They approached Saudi but got nothing. However the Saudi government spent 45 billion USD to purchase arms last year alone.”

You are believing in incorrect Assumptions, thinking that Saudi Arabia is a Muslim country.

      Facts are as follows.

      1. Saudi Arabia is NOT a Muslim Country. Saudi Arabia follows the Devil, Satan, a Wahhabi-Salafi Country, and is the country of the Devil, that is using Islam for commercial purposes, to exploit the Millions of Muslim pilgrims.

      2. The Wahhabii Sallafi are after their own interest, and the King and the 7,000 odd princes control the wealth. Each Prince is given $200,000 dollars to sit on his but. $200,000 times 7,000 comes to 1,400,000,000 or $1.,4 Billion Annually.

Many Muslims are suckered into believing all the crap the Wahhabi Saudis say. In 1960, only 2% of the Saudi Women were literate. Anyway, thanks to oil , now it has increased dramatically. Let’s hope there will be revolution down the road, like the French and Russian, and Saudi Arabia follows the revolution of Kamal Ataturk of Turkey.

The author has looked at the most glaring problem of Muslim societies worldwide – poverty.

Muslim scholars worldwide have to get together and find the core reason to this and take action to reverse it: No amount of putting the blame on others will do; Muslims need concrete positive actions to uplift their societies.

The main stumbling blocks they will come across are the so-called religious leaders and most importantly the rulers with vested interests.

How to bell the cats? Turn to Malaysia, one of the most successful Muslim majority country in the world and learn from them, though they have ethnic/religious problems too. On the whole they fare one of the best among Muslim countries.

That is the way to go, but will they?

The main reson for this is in most the Muslims are not following Islam correctly in the way it should be followed. The nations which control the world economy & etc. Plan & excute their best to avoid muslim not to follow correct Islamic way of life in whatever way they can do. Since they knew & experienced in the past that If the Muslims are following Islamic teaching correctly, they will rule the world like Khalifa Umar & their will be another Otman empire. Thanks to Almighty now Young generations are in the right rack now and it will change by time passing.

now becoming the world one of top economy. Look at Egypt! after long dictator ship, there was a Islamic rooted government. But it was removed from the power after a year with the blessing of so called world power & so called Islamic GCC & Muslim conutries except Qatar. “The main reason for this is due to in most of the countries the Muslims are not correctly following the Islamic way of life in the way it should be followed. “

The Reason is that they are following the Ulama and Mullahs who are after their self interest. I Understand that the Ulema of South Asia do bot allow women to go to the Mosques. Did Islam forbid that ? No. They make their own rules, like the Taliban.

Muslims followed Islam, in search of Knowledge, before 1,200 AD, until Hamid Ghazali messed it up, and the Ulema and Mullah took control.

So, marginalize the Ulama and Mullahs. They do not advance, Science, Mathematics, philosophy, living standards etc. They are the curse, the brakes to Muslims Advancement. Unfortunately, the rest of the world have to deal with these Ulema.

Every once in a while Dr. Razak pops his head out and comes up with a convoluted set of facts, taken completely out of context and try’s to make a mess of things. Not that the Muslims need any help in making messes!

The stats about the per capita number of Nobel prizes has been going around the world every couple of years. The reason the Muslims are lagging behind is because in the last 150 years most if not all of the Muslim populace were subjugated under colonial rule, or like the Saudis, roamed the deserts.

If Nobel prizes were awarded for the Primary discovery in MOST fields of study, you will find Muslim scholars in the last 800 years will take most if not all of the awards. Whilst the White man wore one suit all year long and did not take a bath because he thought water was infectious, Arab scholars were making strides and setting what are modern-day standards in Astronomy, Medicine, Physics and Geometry. I guess Dr. Razak did not not learn any of this in school.

Yes today the Muslims are a sorry bunch. But don’t make dumb statements like you have command of the facts when you clearly don’t.

Islam gave us all a structure to govern and rule. IF every Muslim pays his/her 2.5% zakah as prescribed, no body should be begging, starving or be illiterate. As usual, there is more talking than doing. To have a better understanding look at how the Memons, Borahs and Ismailis finance and organize their communities.

    • 1
      2

“Whilst the White man wore one suit all year long and did not take a bath” It is sheer nonsense such as this that is behind the fact Muslims are still in the Stone Age. Remember it is the white man’s sciences, health studies and standards that has brought your life span to the 60s (minimum)today whereas you were dying like flies in your 20s – ignorant to save yourselves. You are brushing your teeth and using modern toilets because of him. Religion aside, please learn to be grateful to those who deserve this than denigrating them mindlessly.

This is one of the main damages ever done to the human kind, blocking the human intellect and bulldozing it with an authority based on blind faith. Humans should be freed/salvaged from this “holy cross”.

What is pretty clear is almost all Muslim countries has been under colonial rule. That resulted in plundering of resources and making the citizens second class within their own country pushing them back by many generations. The divisions created by colonial masters are burning till date in most countries.

In recent times the west has ensured that Muslim countries are eternally entangled in power struggles and internal conflicts. Except for few Asian Muslim countries almost all other Muslim countries are living with conflicts for decades.

Regarding the Jews they are like that as they were meant to be like that. It’s not a surprise. If Dr Imtiyaz considered the religion of Muslims as a factor in his write-up he might have made bit more sense.

At the end of the day, man is not judged by what he posses but rather by his actions !

Partially correct, but that was not the cause.

The cause foes to around 1,200 Ad with Hamid Al Ghazali and the downgrading of the Islamic Philosophers and Thinkers.

Revelation, whether correct or not, had to be followed, irrespective of Reason and Observations.

      Safa,

You need to normalize the GDP by taking out the oil revenues. Should not add more than 10% of the oil revenues to the GDP. Saudi Arabian oil GDP is about 93% Oil, Oil based should not be more than 10%. Norway, it is 7%, an they keep it in the ground.

So, if you take the oil out, these Muslim Countries will be backward third world countries with Mullahs and Ulema chanting their unintelligible Chants in Arabic, that get’s you nowhere, even though an Afterlife is promised.

Dear concerned friends and brothers in Islam, kindly look into the problem not in the commercial context but in the context of Quran and the practices of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) and look for solutions for salvation in this world and the hereafter. Then and only then, can the Muslom Umma succeed and be respected by the other communities of the world. Large numbers of Scientists or wealth accumulation can never give the Muslims protection or peace of mind. I do not in any way intend to belittle the importance of worldly education and reaching the top in any sphere, but if that objective supercedes the submission to the will of Allah and the Sunnahs of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), then nothing in this world can protect us from defeat and destruction. This is what I gather from the limited knowledge I have in Islam and the so called Commercial world, we all talk about and wish to live happily for a thousand years, if our scientists can help us to achieve that.

During the 8th to 10th centuries Muslim nations were at the forefront of Astronomy, Mathematics, Medicine, Architecture and so on. The very word Algebra is derived from the Arabic Al Jebr. And they were famed for their tolerance and acceptance of Christians and Jews. One of the Islamic injunctions used at the time was ‘The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of a martyr’. Ironic when you consider the attitude today.

The Muslim world (apart from Turkey)did not build on this inheritance and industrialize. Today these countries have large oil reserves, corrupt leaders and superstitious people.

The colonialism of the past 150 is very marginal. In fact, the Western Colonialists interdicted Secular education and the modern scientific principles. What have the Ulemas contributed?

Ulama , are the Culprits. Revelation was above reason. Hadith says, the Sun goes under Allah throne, and that is what the Ulama teach the people, for example.

The Culprits? Christians overcame the problem with the Enlightenment.

There was no Enlightenment in Islam because of the Ulemas and the Clerics.

In fact it it is the Ulama, who mixed the work of the devil along with the Wahhabis, the curse of Muslims and Mankind.

These Ulema and Tribals have prevented Polio to be eradicated from the Tribal Areas of Pakistan tan and from Nigeria.

However, there ewer reform movements, Turkey Kamal Ataturk. ad many others. How many Muslim Nobel prize winners are there in Science? One- a Pakistani.

The author has conveniently left out the debt burden the so-called international communities has accumulated to pass it on to a few generations.

O ye who believe! If an evil-liver bring you tidings, verify it, lest ye smite some folk in ignorance and afterward repent of what ye did. (The Noble Quran 49:6)

Islam is about restoration. It is about elevating people and pulling them up. It is a transformative force and a spiritual power that can take a degraded individual and turn him into a mover of mountains and leader of men.

Practising Muslims invest their wealth in knowledge. Islam is rooted in the idea that Divine knowledge is the most potent force on earth. The more one knows, the closer one gets to the One who knows all. Our Prophet, God bless and grant him peace, loved knowledge, and it is the only prayer the Quran commands him to supplicate [for increase in knowledge]

My Lord! Increase me in knowledge. (The Noble Quran 20:114)

“O Believers! Enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. He is unto you a clear enemy.” (2:208)

Entering into Islam totally means two things. The first is to enter into it wholeheartedly with complete sincerity. The second is to accept all of its rulings, working to avoid picking and choosing based on our whims and preferences. To do otherwise, is to follow the footsteps of Satan. He rebelled against God based on the whimsical inclinations of his soul. This complete submission to God and His religion should in no place be more manifest than in the ritual prayer.

This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter – that is Life, if they but knew. (The Noble Quran 29:64)

I often ask the following questions (I do not know how to call: ‘Paradox’/ ‘Irony’/ ‘Destiny’) and I do not find a plausible and objective answers except partisan ‘blame-games’:

    (1) Oil & gas are the mighty commodities which currently generate the highest earnings from natural resources that Nature/God has bestowed. How come that almost 90% of the countries that are endowed with these natural resources are countries where the Muslim populations are in the majority?

    (2) How is that it came about that these were the countries settled largely by the Muslims (or converted to Islam) long, long time ago when they would not had even an inkling that these are lands with adjoining seas in which this great source of wealth lies and which one day would turn out to be such a great natural source of wealth generation.

    (3) How come that currently the countries that have internal turmoil and civil wars of destruction are mostly (90%) Muslim countries?

    (4) Is it possible that God wanted to reward them for their suffering, backwardness and desolation for so long but because of their forgetfulness of goodness and Godliness, they are unable to enjoy the benefit of the God/ Nature given reward?

    (5) The wealth that they have has the potential to benefit the poor in their own countries and expand their benevolence to the deserving poor all over the world irrespective of what religion or creed they are. Instead, how is that it is the Muslims that are creating havoc in the name of expanding their faith in other countries while also themselves causing enormous sufferings, destitution, human rights violations, killing and maiming of innocent civilians in their own Muslim countries in the name of different sects of the very Islam they claim to propagate and in the name of Allah (God)—the very concept of which in every religion is “Love”: “Love is God”?

    (6) Isn’t it reasonably possible that if not for the violent and inhuman ways of propagation that some Muslims have taken upon themselves as means, if they are truly benevolent in their own countries and to the wider world through their oil and gas wealth, Islam would have spread faster and wider instead of facing the current backlash of being termed as ‘terrorism’ and ‘Islamic fundamentalism’ which effectively had tarnished Islam and Muslims and stilled the progress of Islam and stigmatised the Muslims?

Name of the Allah or their divine powers, they each of the countries have completely neglected the education in those countries. This is common PEOPLE in middle east, north african regions than anywhere else.

Time has come, various religious leaders to work on a common agenda for making school education compulsory regardless of gender, race or the other social barriers. Even if the country specific difficulties could play a key role many to be away from school education, making it a basic right for every human being could achieve a lot.

Most I have met from North africa, Middle east where 93% of their folks are muslims dont even think about the very need of their female population have EQUAL rights in terms of education. Male domination is seen like a cancerous situation in those countries.

Btw, writer has completely forgotten to add Bangladesh to his list.

      That is not their problem.
The influence worked on them, where they each come from made them feel like that. I have met moroccans or tunisians are scared of doing anything wrong because they don’t want their own people to know it. But when it goes with going out with girls or doing all what islam loudly forbidden them to do. All these are behind the scenes. See, it is the nature of people to react so. But secular muslims are different. There are also Universities in Turkey that they are lawfully against any female wearing headscarves while Morocco, Iran, Tunisia, Saudi and the like countries force females to wear that.

A person’s or a communities progress depends on the philosophy/worldview the person or the community has as the guiding principle. A community or a person with a worldview which is close to the reality would be more successful than others, at least in the long run. In this connection the Muslim world is very poor. Their guiding light, the worldview, Islam is a faith based and hence very remote from the reality. So the ability for Muslim people to understand something or to form a good opinion is very scarce. So their down turn is inevitable in the long run especially in a time knowledge is more powerful than sword. Power of sword is no more powerful to give Muslims the success as in the past. So, if to progress, the only way they have is to get rid of wrong their belief system that generates incorrect information to them. The reason for their backwardness is their backward worldview itself, and hence the only way for the Muslims to progress is to become non-Muslims.

    Thanks!

      Yapa,

      Very interesting analysis.

The same thing happened with Christianity.

      Separation of Church and State.

Separation of Church and religion. make religion nominal. The main reason for this is in most the Muslims are not following Islam correctly in the way it should be followed, with Reason and Observation ahead of Revelation, or Imaginations. downgrade the Ulema and Mullah to figureheads, in the periphery.

Muslims need the Age of Reason and Age of Enlightenment like what the Europeans did in the 16th century. They need to put the Ulema and Mullah in to the backwaters. They spend too much time in unnecessary religious prayers, that really reduce their time for education, knowledge, thinking, industry, productivity and recreation.

However, until 1,200 AD, before Imam Hamid Ghazali, there was a vigorous debate between the Ulama ( religious scholars) and the natural Philosophers. Unfortunately, the Ulema prevailed due to Political reasons, and that was the beginning of the Muslims decline and dark ages, that continues to this day, perpetuated by the Devil following Wahhabi, Sailafis, Tauheeds, The Deobandis and Taliban, and their offshoots.

      DeJa Vu…….

I don’t think it is the problem. Islam as an ideology itself is not credible as a guiding principle. It is fundamentally flawed.

        Thanks!

This is an interesting article with facts and myths; in fact comments are much appealing than the article.

I disagree with the analysis for the simple reason the author was selective in his analysis, his analysis is true if only the Muslim countries falls in to such a situation. How many none Muslim countries especially in Asia , south America and Africa falls in to similar GDP? Can’t we take few none Muslims countries that politically not stable and show their aggregate is less than the total Muslim county GDP which are not politically stable? It is possible indeed.

    http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?page=1

Imtiyaz says “Muslims are 22 percent of the world population and produce less than five percent of global GDP” also he says “India ‘s GDP is estimated at over $3 trillion” did the author considered 15% this as Muslim GDP as India is having a Muslim population of around 15%, if not how the author manage to measure Muslim GDP in these none Muslim countries and none Muslim GDP contribution in Muslim countries? These are in fact vague analysis.

The fact is, Muslim countries are mainly placed in Asia and Africa, external forces never allow these countries to be politically stabilize ( just like they keep the resources rich Africa and south America ) and also corruption among the political leaders are so high. in my opinion these political instability what taken in some countries to religious extremism ( religious extremism is an effect and not the cause)

Only point that I agree on literacy level but these also highly affected by the political instability in Muslim countries and restricted opportunity availability in none Muslim countries.

This article is meant for the gratification of the Islamophobic. It also goes to prove Muslim names have no association with Islamic beliefs.

Muslims ultimate concern should be attaining Paradise. We have to guard and protect this concern. This is something that takes tremendous effort and Divine help. Therefore, the Prophet, peace upon him, taught us to pray, “O God! Do not make this world our greatest concern or the extent of our knowledge.”

Lo! those who love that slander should be spread concerning those who believe, theirs will be a painful punishment in the world and the Hereafter. Allah knoweth. Ye know not. (The Noble Quran 24:19)

This is a belief. Do you have credible data and facts to support this assertion. Christians say a similar story with some variation.

Buddhists say they want to achieve Nirvana, but do need to go though rebirth. Do they gave credible data and facts to Support it?

Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler all gave supporting data to their hypotheses. Do you have for your beliefs?
