Muslims: What Really Went Wrong!

By Imtiyaz Razak –

Dr. Imtiyaz Razak

The fact is that Muslims of the world are among the poorest of the poor and Muslims in the Muslim majority societies and non-Muslim majority societies in Asia and Africa are heavily struggling to embrace modernization due to economic and social backwardness.

There are several reasons as to why there is poverty and social backwardness among Muslims. I would like to share some easy but strong fact to have your opinions.

The combined annual GDP of 57 Muslim countries remains under $2 trillion. America , just by herself, produces goods and services worth $10.4 trillion; China $6 trillion, Japan $3.5 trillion and Germany $2.1 trillion. Even India ‘s GDP is estimated at over $3 trillion (purchasing power parity basis). Oil rich Saudi Arabia , U.A.E., Kuwait and Qatar collectively produce goods and services (mostly oil) worth $430 billion; Netherlands alone has a higher annual GDP while Buddhist Thailand produces goods and services worth $429 billion.

Poor-MuslimsMuslims are 22 percent of the world population and produce less than five percent of global GDP. Even more worrying is that the Muslim countries’ GDP as a percent of the global GDP is going down over time.

The Arabs, it seems, are particularly worse off. According to the United Nations’ Arab Development Report: “Half of Arab women cannot read; One in five Arabs live on less than $2 per day; Only 1 percent of the Arab population has a personal computer, and only half of 1 percent use the Internet; Fifteen percent of the Arab workforce is unemployed, and this number could double by 2010; The average growth rate of the per capita income during the preceding 20 years in the Arab world was only one-half of 1 percent per annum, worse than anywhere but sub-Saharan Africa.”

The planet’s poorest countries include Ethiopia , Sierra Leone , Afghanistan , Cambodia , Somalia , Nigeria , Pakistan and Mozambique. At least six of the poorest of the poor are countries with a Muslim majority. Fifty-seven Muslim majority countries have an average of ten universities each for a total of less than 600 universities for 1.4 billion people; India has 8,407 universities, the U.S. has 5,758. From within 1.4 billion  Muslims.

Over the past 105 years, 1.4 billion Muslims have produced eight Nobel Laureates while a mere 14 million Jews have produced 167 Nobel Laureates. Of the 1.4 billion Muslims less than 300,000 qualify as ‘scientists’, and that converts to a ratio of 230 scientists per one million Muslims. The United States of America has 1.1 million scientists (4,099 per million); Japan has 700,000 (5,095 per million). Fact: Of the 1.4 billion Muslims 800 million are illiterate (6 out of 10 Muslims cannot read). In Christendom, adult literacy rate stands at 78 percent. Consider, for instance, that Muslims constitute 22 percent of world population with a 1 percent share of Nobel Prizes. Jews constitute 0.23 percent of world population with a 22 percent share of Nobel Prizes.

THE fact is that Muslims are poor, illiterate and weak. What went wrong? Arriving at the right diagnosis is extremely critical because the prescription depends on it.

Islam began because of the need of building solidarity among trading tribes were needed. So that, prophet Mohammed could become a successful businessmen. Those days islamic countries helped a lot to gather knowledge and to write those in books. Learn the Persian or IRaq culture.

Later, the arab culture dominated and submission to the quran overrode every thing and now muslims are praying five times a day in order to keep the religion alive, reproducing like rats in order to raise the muslim population levels high.

Every thing else has gone do the drain. right now islam is simply the arab culture and what mullahs want.

Some Muslims might have gone astray due to lack of proper guidance and advice. Guidance and happiness are two affairs which go hand in hand; thus whoever is guided then he is happy. And whoever is misguided then he is miserable. Misery is the companion to misguidance which is not separated from it. Therefore whenever misguidance is found misery is found, and whenever guidance is found happiness is found.

SubhanAllah!! This is an affair which the people perceive. Whoever is distant from Allah and His obedience and being upright upon His legislation and then he becomes guided, he will perceive in his heart a delight which was missing and a sweetness which was non existent and a joy which he was not aware of. When Allah honours him, and favours him with guidance he tastes the sweetness and experiences the joy of happiness, the coolness of the eyes, peace of mind, and tranquillity of his soul; which he did not find before that.

Guidance and happiness are only obtained by the Book of Allah the Glorified and Exalted. And whoever seeks it from other than the Book of Allah the Exalted will not attain anything except loss and he will not attain anything except destruction and ruin in his worldly life and his afterlife.

Then if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray, nor fall into distress and misery (The Noble Quran 20:123)

And pay attention to His statement here: ‘then whoever follows My guidance’; because that which is necessary as it relates to the Quran is following it, not just the mere recitation and properly pronouncing its letters. The Quran was only sent down to be implemented not merely to pronounce its letters correctly while neglecting its guidelines. For this reason He said: ‘then whoever follows My guidance’. Thus that which results in happiness is following the guidance not merely memorizing the Quran. Following the guidance of the Book of Allah is a branch of understanding the Quran and pondering over it.

(This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect. (The Noble Quran 38:29)

Thus this is an affair which is necessary in order to attain happiness; reciting the Quran, reflecting over its verses, working by it, and following its guidance.

      Maghribi,

Elevate Reason and observation above REVELATION.

Then you can have a contented and fruitful life on Earth, which goes around the Sun, if there is afterlife, can enjoy that too.

If you elevate Revelation above reason and observation, you need to make the Sun go around the stationary Earth and make the Sun go under the Throne.

Atheists believe in the chaos theory while Theists a Creator with precision and purpose.

Theists on the other hand use their moral conscience as well as their spiritual conscience to derive and to seek from Divine guidance (The Noble Quran). This concept of morality and spirituality are unique to Humans only. We do not find or detect these faculties in animals or attribute their origins to Animals.

To those of us who believe in God, the fact that we possess these faculties is itself a pointer that we have to use our moral conscience and our spirituality in seeking God, in seeking out the truth, and in seeking the answers to all the fundamental questions. God has provided us with the appropriate faculties or the tools to seek out the answers to these fundamental questions.

If one chooses to live in ignorance, (Chaos over Precision and purpose) So Be It.

Such doctrines would guide people nothing but only to mental slavery.

People should be liberated from such mental prisons, if human kind to move forward.

The biggest obstacle humankind faces in era is wrong beliefs block their reasonable thinking. I think the biggest obstacle humans faced so far in the history against their progress is the “mythical belief of Creator God”. For thousands of years billions of people are blinded by this mythical belief and their progress has been blocked. Their intellectual capacities has been destroyed by this mythical belief. If this belief has not prevented billions of people from their creative thinking for several thousand years, and they were used constructively, think of the where the world would have been today. It would have been a paradise.

If to progress, humans should base their activities on truth or something close to truth. For this, invariably myth have be relying on this “obvious myth”. In this era there are enough simple tools to identify wrong ideas. I am wondering why in this “enlightened era”, why people do not “name” that obvious myth and force out/flush out it from the human knowledge systems.

The wonderful thing is in this enlightened era, more people believe and fight for a myth even more than Science or Philosophy. What a pack of fools are the “enlightened people”.

Oh! God, please forgive these ignorant people even in the enlightened era of 21st century.

      Thanks!

These idiotic comments is what’s wrong with Muslims! Life is not all about wealth. Compare marriages, divorces, adultery, alcoholism, drugs, murder, war, colonialism, etc. and you’ll get the real picture. Don’t make fun just because people are poor.

In this sense Muslim people must be those who are not guided by Allah, because misery is always associated with them.

What a pathetic statement in the 21st century. Reason has no place in their worldview.

They think they would be guided by blind faith in this 21st century. How come misery will not follow them?

    Thanks!

      yapa,

“What a pathetic statement in the 21st century. Reason has no place in their worldview. “

That was the worldview of the Ulema and Mullah to control the Muslims. Tjheir leaders were Hamid Galazali, Iby Taymiah ( 212th and 13th Centuries) and Abdul Wahhab ( 18th century), the Wahhabis,

In their worldview, Revelation oi ABOVE Reason and Observation- Galzali and host of others. So, the Sun still goes around the Earth, like what Joshua claimed. Forget Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler.

Before Ghazali, Reason and Observation was above revelation.

yapa – In a discussion you should qualify your ‘pathetic’ world view. 22% of the world population is on blind faith does not seem a logical conclusion.

Your country and your people should face facts and try to steer out of poverty through establishing strategic partnership with the minority communities if you and country plans to survive the next millennium.

What assurance do you have say that majority’s opinion is the right opinion?

You better take majority’s opinion rather than a doctor’s opinion when you are sick, if what you are saying is correct.

What a foolish criterion to find truth?

        Thanks!

Only the foolish makes assumptions. Majority could be right and wrong. When someone is sick they tend to go with the second and third opinions.

The point is ‘exponential’ growth is an indication. Just as a rapid decline. BTW, Misery follows the foolish.

        Maghribi,

In 1543 when Copernicus published his book on the Solar Centric Planetary Model, only a handful believed him. But 99.9999999% of the Christians, Muslims, and other thought he was incorrect.

Even after Galileo and Kepler, still about 99% thought the Sun goes around the Earth. Joshua and Revelations and beliefs did not matter.

Even Today, 25% of the Americans and Europeans believe the Sun goes around the Earth.

What some body believes, does not matter, What matters is what are the facts and thew data supporting it.

            Native Vedda,

“How can we motivate 15 Millions to renounce Sinhala/Buddhism? ”

This confuses the Sinhala Buddhists who think that they are true Buddhists.

So you need to say that:

            1. Sri lanka Sinhala Buddists are not Buddists. They are Monk Mahnama Buddhists, that is not Buddhism, but distpored or racist Buddhism, that the Enlightened Buddha did NOT teach.

            2. It is not in the Pali Tipitaka., It is only on the Monk Mahanama Mahawansa Imaginations, with is tissue of absurdities.

Example of the Tissue of Absurdities in the Mahawamsa.

            3. Non- Confirmation bias of Mahawansa. Did Dr. Para-nawithana, the noted Sri Lankan Archaeologist. believe, the Imaginations of monk Mahanama of 5th Century such as:

            a) Grandfather of Para-Vijaya was a lion? Any DNA data in support of this imagination?

            b) Buddha visited Lanka three-times in 500 BC? any support for the Imagination.

            c) During one visit, Buddha left his giant footprint on top of Mount Samanala Kanda, “Adams Peak”. Did he fly by the Dandu Monera Yanthraya, Giant Bird, and parachute?

            d) The Veddah are the offspring of Para-Vijaya and Kuveni. Is there any DNA data to support this? No. Another Monk Mahanama Imagination. Sri Lanka’s indigenous inhabitants, the Veddas — or Wanniya-laeto (‘forest-dwellers’) as they call themselves — preserve a direct line of descent from the island’s original Neolithic community dating from at least 16,000 BC and probably far earlier according to current scientific opinion.

    Excellent article Razak,

Perhaps the Muslims can learn from the Tamil Experience. Extreme hatred with the Sinhalese blinded the Tamil community to its own ills (of fascism, sexism, castism and racism). There is no argument here of the West’s long drawn animosity towards Muslim nations as much as there is no argument of the animosity of the Sinhalese state towards minorities. But then look at the reaction.

The Tamils started supporting “our thug” vs “their thug” without knowing that the thugs have plans of their own. The poor Sinhalese are loaded now with their own version – in a more permanent basis.

So there is a lesson here for all of us. Before we blame others we need to take a good look at our selves.

It is quite plain that LITERACY is the ability to read and Write.

However – the ability to read and write does not automatically allow one – to undertstand what is written.

To solve a problem – the root cause of the problem must be identified.

The authour of the article says so himself in the last sentence.

    QUOTE
THE fact is that Muslims are poor, illiterate and weak. What went wrong? Arriving at the right diagnosis is extremely critical because the prescription depends on it.
    UNQUOTE

ALL the comments given above are people who have not understood the article – they have heaped abuse – thinking that the article is a slur on Muslims WHEN it is not!

I would hope that the people who made the above comments will reread the article and offer comments that could assist in rectifying the problem. If they cant – they should – at the least – apologise to all of us for making such shallow comments – and should refrain from shouting about things they cannot comprehend!

    Dear writer,

The issues you’ve highlighted are not confined to Muslims alone. It’s a world wide problem. Have you got any idea if proper study or evaluations have been carried out up and down the African continent or South America or any remote parts of Russia,India, China and Mongolia or even Australia?

If it’s a Muslim problem then what do you think would be the root cause of it? Islam or Qur-An as one of the commentators puts? If Islam or Qur-An and both are the basis of these apparent problems, does anyone suggests that leaving Islam is or may be the answer? Then you’re ill informed. Because,

    1. Islam encourages or make it as a compulsory for men and women to “Read”,the very first word of revelation of Islam. Islam encourages the followers, Muslims, to be logical and rationale. If the people, Muslims, do not take it seriously then it’s their own problem and not Islam’s or Qur-An’s.

    2. Islamic finance strictly prohibits “interest”, however, so-called leading economic giants, namely, America, Germany, England, France and whatever counties, you name them have, are running their financial affairs on the basis of “interest”. So they have sort of black money to invest on necessary things and sometime unnecessary things. As one commentator points out mega casinos, brothels, slavery, alcohol, drugs, murders etc. are the direct result of the interest based economy and consumer culture.

If anyone thinks that having Phds or scientists or Nobel prize winners simply reflect the standard of a particular society? then they’r also mislead party. The world is dominated or regulated by the religion invented by the Romans(current day Italians)in the name of Roman Catholism, it has nothing do with the “Good News” (Ingil)preached by prophet Jesus(puh). This Roman Catholics, including Vatican, have lost moral value, humanity and the God. Their God is money and power.

The real Muslims are not behind the above two, like Buddha. But in the Buddha’s case he left his wife, the thorn and worldly life that means his simply forget his responsibility and selfishly withdrew himself from the society. But Muslims cannot do like Buddha did. They have to face the challenges, fights the desires, resist the engulfing worldly things and live until die doing good things as much as possible.

So, it’s the difference between the people of world only and people of both here and hereafter.

      Ahmad Nadavi,

The Problem for Muslims started started around 1,200 AD with Hamid Ghazali and the Ulema and Mullah.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_and_science

Islam and science addresses the relationships between the religion of Islam, its adherents’ (Muslims) communities and the activities known collectively as science. As with all other branches of human knowledge, science, from an Islamic standpoint, [is] the study of nature [as stemming from?] Tawhid, the Islamic conception of the “Oneness” of God.[1] In Islam, nature is not seen as something separate but as an integral part of a holistic outlook on God, humanity, the world and the cosmos. These links imply a sacred aspect to Muslims’ pursuit of scientific knowledge, as nature itself is viewed in the Qur’an as a compilation of signs pointing to the Divine.[2] It was with this understanding that the pursuit of science, especially prior to the colonization of the Muslim world, was respected in Islamic civilizations.[3]
Theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili believes the modern scientific method was pioneered by Ibn Al-Haytham (known in the Western world as “Alhazen”), whose contributions he likened to those of Isaac Newton.[4] Alhazen helped shift the emphasis on abstract theorizing onto systematic and repeatable experimentation, followed by careful criticism of premises and inferences.[5] Robert Briffault, in The Making of Humanity, asserts that the very existence of science, as it is understood in the modern sense, is rooted in the scientific thought and knowledge that emerged in Islamic civilizations during this time.[6]
Muslim scientists and scholars have subsequently developed a spectrum of viewpoints on the place of scientific learning within the context of Islam, none of which are universally accepted.[7] However, most maintain the view that the acquisition of knowledge and scientific pursuit in general is not in disaccord with Islamic thought and religious belief.[1][7]

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ghazali

Al-Ghazali has sometimes been referred to by historians as the single most influential Muslim after the Islamic prophet Muhammad.[6] Within Islam he is considered to be a Mujaddid or renewer of the faith, who, according to tradition, appears once every century to restore the faith of the community.[7][8][9] His works were so highly acclaimed by his contemporaries that al-Ghazali was awarded the honorific title “Proof of Islam” (Hujjat al-Islam).[1] Others[who?] have cited his opposition to certain strands of Islamic philosophy as a detriment to Islamic scientific progress.[10][full citation needed] [11] Besides his work that successfully changed the course of Islamic philosophy—the early Islamic Neoplatonism developed on the grounds of Hellenistic philosophy, for example, was so successfully criticised by al-Ghazali that it never recovered—he also brought the orthodox Islam of his time in close contact with Sufism. It became increasingly possible for individuals to combine orthodox theology (kalam) and Sufism, while adherents of both camps developed a sense of mutual appreciation that made sweeping condemnation of one by the other increasingly problematic.[6]:14–16

          Maghribi,

“Why don’t you use your intellect rather than cut and paste. Waste of space and time “

Le me Explain you the Problem, the problem is NOT confined only to the Muslims.

          1. The Muslims after 1,200 AD, did not use their Intellect. They listened only their Ulema and Mullah, who Always interpreted Revelation to be fact, whether or not reason and observation contradicted what was claimed by Revelation.

Mostly as a a result, Muslims are backward today. Almost all the new developments in the past 800 years were by non-Muslims who did not follow the chanting Ulema and Mullah , who prevented those Muslims from using their Intellect.

Those with a low intellect have trouble understanding some issues.

So like a First grader,, need to keep repeating, keep pasting until they get it.

In the USA and Europe, still about 25% think the Sun goes around the Earth, 400 years after Galileo. Among the Muslims, it may be closer to 50%.

So need keep pasting ….. the Earth Moves and Rotates and keeps going around the Sun…..

Does the Sun do under the Throne every day until it gets permission..?

            Amarasiri

You are in no position judge Ulema / Mullah or Islam. If Muslims had not used their intellect and vision, how come they they hold the strongest faith and growth within a short span of 1445 years. You have no idea the wealth of Muslims as your source of information (cut and paste) is from the non credible Islamophobic websites.

Muslims who practise Islam; strive to achieve their objectives and aspirations in preparation to an eternal life. That’s their ultimate goal in life. Practising Muslims will value less their desires and ambitions of this life. As for Atheists by their very nature will deny the marvels of an intelligent Creator and stay deluded to visible facts and realities around them.

We wish you and people like you to spend the rest of your life with the self delusion and gratification of insulting the second largest community in the world. However, bad for business.

              Dear Maghribi,

“You are in no position judge Ulema / Mullah or Islam. If Muslims had not used their intellect and vision, …”

If Amrarasiri and the Ulema-Mullah have the SAME reference material, the Quran and the Hadith, the Bible, the Tipitaka, etc. the interpretation should be the same.

The only difference is that Amramrasi and the other Mulsim Philosophers ( of an earlier era) will use reason and observation above reason, when in conflict, without interpreting blindly.

The Church, Joshua Stopping the Sun etc. are examples.

See what Bukhari and Muslim say in their Hadith collections of the Sun going under the throne and the contains are anchored.

When reason and observation is not used as a check, it becomes blind faith.

There is nothing wrong with faith, and it many cases it helps, but it is blind faith that becomes a problem, when it comes in conflict with reality and human progress.

The biggest challenge for faith and religion is Science and Natural Philosophy.

The only difference is that Amramrasi and the other Muslim and other Philosophers (of an earlier era) will use reason and observation above REVELATION, when in conflict, without interpreting blindly.

“The real Muslims are not behind the above two, like Buddha. But in the Buddha’s case he left his wife, the thorn and worldly life that means his simply forget his responsibility and selfishly withdrew himself from the society. But Muslims cannot do like Buddha did.”

What a naive/pathetic argument to refute the Buddha’s role? You can make yourselves self-satisfied with such arguments and continue with the comfort of foolishness taught to you.

      “Allah knoweth. Ye know not.”

Oh!, I can see the future of Muslim society, guided by such philosophy.

    Hi Yapa,
“What a naive/pathetic argument to refute the Buddha’s role? You can make yourselves self-satisfied with such arguments and continue with the comfort of foolishness taught to you”

I have no reason to belittle Buddha, but I got to speak common sense. Just think all Sri Lankan Buddhists simply follow Buddha’s example and sit under Boo tree doing nothing physically. You lot would be the worst being in the planet than the “poor, backward, illiterate Muslims”, wouldn’t they.

My friend you got to accept the reality. That is that Buddha was a weak person, who could not control the live challenges and put the temptations under his control by living his life. He conveniently went to forest and sat under the Boo tree, did not spend a single minute to think about his fellow citizens. He was not a pragmatic.

“Just think all Sri Lankan Buddhists simply follow Buddha’s example and….”

I feel very sorry about your ideas moulded by your faith based ideology. My dear friend, Buddha has never asked anybody follow him. There were Millions of people during the Buddha’s time who lived lay lives and Buddha never asked them to sit under a tree. Even the Buddha had a Busy time table in serving the people. He has asked everybody even to question his doctrine. He has advised people to analyse what he has said and if they feel it is reasonable to believe (after every test possible) to believe. There is no belief in Buddhism just because anything was said by the Buddha. He has not advised anybody to blindly believe anything just because he has said it. Buddhism is free to be tested with any modern methodology to verify its truth, whether it is scientific method or rationality or any other modern tool to test the truthfulness.

      1. I challenge you if possible to dispute any of the doctrines of the Buddha using any methodology you know.

      2. I will undertake in return to totally refute Allah and whole of your worldview (Islam) with simple arguments and observations.

If you are very confident that Islam is true and Buddhism has no any value, I think you will take my challenge.

My dear Ahmed Nadvi or anybody else would like to take my challenge.

I declare if to liberate/salvage humans from darkness/myth, the need of the era is to liberate them from the mental slavery towards the creator God. To liberate their thinking from faith.

This the greatest service one can do to the human kind, liberating their thinking.

      Thanks!

You like a fish denying the existence of water. Before you challenge the realty of your ideology check out the complexity of your pea brain. Scientists have found protons, neutrons, and electrons. They seem to have left out Morons.

My dear friend, the challenge is straight forward. You don’t have to worry to find similes with fish and water to ascertain whose ideology is correct and whose is wrong. In Sinhaa there is a saying “Lihala balanna thiyena malla obala balanne aey.” Why touch and guess, when you can open and see. Will open and see, whose ideology is right and whose is wrong?

Ready to take my challenge to see the veracity of two ideologies, Islam and Buddhism?

          Thanks!

Ideologies do not feed the hungry, they give directions to Humanity. It’s futile to debate Faith as it is a belief system based on the visible and the invisible evidences around us. We may see the same thing and draw different conclusions. It could be right or wrong. If wrong there are the consequences. Islam is a way of life just as Buddhism. Islam give credence to a Supreme Creator while a philosophy to a Human construct.

That is, If you did open and see without any guesses and most doctors can vouch that the Human Brain is a tool of marvel and it cannot be a random creation of chance.

    Amarasiri;

“Buddhists say they want to achieve Nirvana, but do need to go though rebirth. Do they gave credible data and facts to Support it?”

    1. Do you say providing credible data and facts to Support a hypothesis would prove the theory?

    2. Aren’t there any other methods to assess the credibility of a hypothesis?

“1. Do you say providing credible data and facts to Support a hypothesis would prove the theory? “
The credible facts and data increases the probability, but it has be be material and relevant to the questions being asked. s

“2. Aren’t there any other methods to assess the credibility of a hypothesis? My answerer to (1) above is “NO” and to (2) is “YES”. Do you contest my idea? Thanks! “

If you cannot get data, can use reason and logic, but it will go only so far.

Example is the Geocentric Model of the Planetary system.

The other is particle and wave theory of light, where there is evidence for both.

So far, there is no credible evidence or reasoning for Rebirth, and Afterlife. Only belief.

The 500 odd Jataka Stories of Buddha’s previous lives will not cut it.

      Sorry, Mahusahada Panditya.

        Amarasiri;

        A few more questions.

        1. It is true that providing relevant facts and data would substantiate a hypothesis. Would it assure the accuracy of the hypothesis?

In other words can Is there no possibility for such a hypothesis to give rise to incorrect conclusions? Is there no possibility for anything contrary to such a hypothesis to be true?

In other words can this method prove a hypothesis or a theory?.

        2. Do you say reason and logic cannot go far without the help of facts and data? Why?

Do you say when reason and logic with facts and data form a perfect system to explore the reality?

Do you say there is nothing beyond the scope of this system that can exist?

        3. Do you say “Wave-Particle Duality” is explained by that system of “Reason and Logic+ Facts and Data”?

        4. Can you say all the beliefs which cannot be backed by facts are wrong?

        Please give your idea.

        Thanks!

          Yapa,

The answers to your questions and much more can be found in the following several writings.

          6. Zealot by Reza Aslan

          7. The Holy Scriptures of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and others.

          8. Read on Hypothesis testing and the scientific method.

Science is full of example of corrects and incorrect hypotheses and theories, BUT Science has the self-correcting mechanism. Beliefs, do not have this mechanism, an din facts sometime adds new innovations to the original idea or belief, such as making Budda Divine, and God.

          Yapa, you ask:
“4. Can you say all the beliefs which cannot be backed by facts are wrong?”

No. History of full of them. But need a good reason , logic and proven theories to prove that it is correct.

This is the Problem Deists have, They cannot prove the Presence of God.

The Atheist cannot prove the absence of God.

The same problem with afterlife, and rebirth.

          • 0

            Amarasiri;

You say: “The Atheist cannot prove the absence of God.”

But I can disprove the existence of God. (Creator mentioned in the holy books.) You want me to do it?

You say: “The same problem with afterlife, and rebirth.”

I can prove rebirth with observations and reason. Do you want me to do it?

You have not answered my question about Wave-Particle Duality. Can it be explained with so called reason? Inability to explain Wave-Particle Duality does not deny the (existence of) Wave-Particle Duality.

            On the other hand I will tell you;

            1. “Proofs” of Science are not proofs. In Science facts and data would only substantiate a hypothesis/theory. It doesn’t ensure the hypothesis/theory is true.

            2. It is expected that deductive reasoning gives rise to true conclusions provided the premise and the arguments are true. However, even Deductive Logic cannot explain Wave-Particle Duality.

Are you still in the opinion that theories/observations that cannot be backed by facts and data and “proved” with Deductive Logic are non-existence?

I will disprove the existence of Creator God and prove “rebirth”.

What is your idea about it.

By the way, can you disprove “rebirth”?

            Thanks!

              Yapa,

“You have not answered my question about Wave-Particle Duality. Can it be explained with so called reason? Inability to explain Wave-Particle Duality does not deny the (existence of) Wave-Particle Duality. “

Wave -particle Theory has a long History, from Islamic Scientists, to Newton, to Young’s Double-Slit Experiment, Fresnel’s Work, Einstein (1905), Quantum Theory, the Standard Model, the wave equation, etc., and I do not want to dwell on Physics here.

My point is that one can postulate and come up with any hypotheses or theory, based on reason, limited observation and more observation, and it may still not tell the whole story, but it will be closer to the true story. Where science differs from Religion is that they are open to testing and modification based on new facts and observations.

Religion is fixed. No Changes allowed. It is all right if you can prove it, but they cannot, so far.

              Yapa, you say:

“I will disprove the existence of Creator God and prove “rebirth”.”

Great. Just do the experiment. Show the results. That is what science and reason is all about.

Remember, even now 25% of the Americans and Europeans, still believe, the Sun goes around the Earth. When I was a very young child, I believed that, but grew out of it, thanks to science.

So, you do not want to grow out of rebirth. Then prove it beyond reasonable doubt.

I want to tell you a story. When Young did the Double Slit experiment, and showed that light behaves like a wave, the Royal Society dismissed his, because that was NOT what the Great Newton stated, light is Corpuscles.

So 15 years later, the French Scientist , Fresnel, came to the same conclusion independently. This was after the French Revolutionary, and they had the scientific committee evaluate it. They devised an experiment, based on Fresnel’s observations, and got a Third party to do the testing, and report the results to the scientific committee. They did, and confirm the wave properties, and THEN, forwarded the results to Fresnel.

We can use the French Science Committee to validate or confirm your hypotheses.

                http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/219805/Augustin-Jean-Fresnel

Augustin-Jean Fresnel, (born May 10, 1788, Broglie, France—died July 14, 1827, Ville-d’Avray), French physicist who pioneered in optics and did much to establish the wave theory of light advanced by English physicist Thomas Young.

Beginning in 1804 Fresnel served as an engineer building roads in various departments of France. He began his research in optics in 1814. He lost his post temporarily during the period following Napoleon’s return from Elba in 1815. At the beginning of the 19th century, the scientific community championed Isaac Newton’s corpuscular, or particle, theory of light. However, in 1802 Young showed that an interference pattern is produced when light from two sources overlaps, which could happen only if light was a wave. Fresnel initially did not know about Young’s experiment, but his experiments with various devices for producing interference fringes and diffraction convinced him that the wave theory of light was correct. As a starting point for his mathematical description of diffraction, Fresnel used Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens’s principle that every point on a wave front can be considered a secondary source of spherical wavelets.

Fresnel presented his work on diffraction as an entry to a competition on the subject sponsored by the French Academy of Sciences in 1819. The committee of judges included a number of prominent advocates of Newton’s corpuscular model of light, one of whom, mathematician Siméon-Denis Poisson, pointed out that Fresnel’s model predicted a seemingly absurd result: if a parallel beam of light falls on a small spherical obstacle, there will be a bright spot at the centre of the circular shadow—a spot nearly as bright as if the obstacle was not there at all. An experiment was subsequently performed by the French physicist François Arago, and the spot (subsequently called Poisson’s spot) was seen, vindicating Fresnel, who won the competition.

Not only that when the Quantum Physics submitted the idea of random events, even Einstein didn’t believe it. e said “God does not play dice.”

Same way when I said I can prove “rebirth” almost no one believed me. Search for my article “Can Materialists explain this phenomenon through their ideology or through Science?” on internet and tell me whether I had not proved it.

I will tell you one way to disprove that “Creator God” mentioned in holy books.

The God mentioned in those holy books is “omnipotent”/”almighty”, there is nothing he cannot do, right?

Now consider about the following situation.

The Muslim philosopher “Averroes” asks the following question.

Can the omnipotent/almighty God create a stone which he cannot lift?

What is your answer, YES or NO?

                  1. Tell me what will happen to the omnipotent if the answer is “YES”?

                  2. Tell me what will happen to the omnipotent if the answer is “NO”/

                  3. Do you have any other alternative answer, and if so tell me what will happen to the omnipotent, with this answer.

I can give several other ways to disprove the “Creator God”.

If you are not satisfied with the present method, tell me I will convince you with another method.

If the analysis and any data is convincing, people will begin to accept the new Theory. That is what Thomas Young and Lean Fresnel did with the wave theory of light.

                    Yapa,

“The Muslim philosopher “Averroes” asks the following question.”

In the 12th century, there was a vigorous debate between the Muslim Philosophers and Muslim Scientists vs. the religious scholars, and to the religious scholars, rescue came Hamid Ghazali, in the 12th century. He was brilliant and wrote several books, and the most important was the Incoherence of the Philosophers, where debated and said that reason is Above revelation when it come to a conflict between the two, but otherwise it is all right to use reason. He gave legitimacy to the Sufis, which the the current Devil following Wahhabis are attacking.

Averroes countered with book, the Incoherence of the Incoherence, to counter Ghazili claims, but by that time the Ulema got the upper hand , and it was the decline of Muslim Philosophy and Science ever since. Europe got out of it with the reformation and the age of reason in the 16th century.

Although Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali lived a relatively short life (1058-1111), he established himself as one of the most important thinkers in the history of Islam. The Incoherence of the Philosophers, written after more than a decade of travel and ascetic contemplation, contends that while such Muslim philosophers as Avicenna boasted of unassailable arguments on matters of theology and metaphysics, they could not deliver on their claims; moreover, many of their assertions represented disguised heresy and unbelief. Despite its attempted refutation by the twelfth-century philosopher Ibn Rushd, al-Ghazali’s work remains widely read and influential.

Averroes: Tahafut al Tahafut (The Incoherence of the Incoherence)

bn Rushd, known to Christian Europe as Averroes, came from Cordoba in Spain and lived from 1126 to 1198. He is regarded as the last great Arab philosopher in the Classical tradition, and, under the patronage of the Almohad ruler Abu Ya’quib Yusuf, was a very prolific one. The Tahafut al-Tahafut, written not long after 1180, is his major work and the one in which his original philosophical doctrine is to be found. It takes the form of a refutation of Ghazali’s Tahafut al-Falasifa (The Incoherence of the Philosophers), a work begun in 1095 which attacked philosophical speculation and declared some of the beliefs of the Philosophers to be contrary to Islam. Averroes sets his Aristotelian views in contrast with the Neo-Platonist ones attributed to the philosophers by Ghazali. Published in the UNESCO Collection of Great Works under the auspices of the Gibb Memorial Trust and the International Commission for the Translation of Great Works.

Académie des Sciences, Institut de France
The Académie des Sciences in Paris owes its origin to Colbert’s plan to create a general academy. It also forms part of the lineage of diverse groups of scholars who, in the 17th Century, gathered around a patron or a learned personality. Colbert chose a small group of scholars who met on December 22, 1666 in the King’s library and thereafter held twice-weekly working meetings there. The first 30 years of the Academy’s existence were relatively informal, since no statutes had as yet been laid down for the institution.

On 20 January 1699, Louis XIV gave the Company its first rules. The Académie received the title of Académie Royale des Sciences and was installed in the Palais du Louvre in Paris. Comprising 70 members, it contributed in the 18th Century to the scientific movement of its time through its publications and it played a role as counselor to those in power. On August 8, 1793, the Convention abolished all the academies. Two years later, on August 22, 1795, the Institut national des sciences et des arts was put in place, bringing together the old academies of the sciences, literature and arts. The Institut’s first class (physical sciences and mathematics) was the largest (66 members out of 144). In 1805, the Institut national was transferred to the old so-called “Collège des Quatre-Nations”, currently the Institut de France.

                    Amarasiri;

A long write up but no answer to my comment.

Tell me directly your view about Averroes’ argument. Has he diproven the God or not?

Further, tell me your idea whether I myself have not proven rebirth, after reading my article “Can Materialists explain this phenomenon through their ideology or through Science?” on the web.

I prefer a “direct bus” than “circumbendibus”.

                    Thanks!

Thanks for offering to submit my theory/hypothesis to the Institut de France.

Before that I would like to have your recommendation on it. Please read it and give me your opinion.

I will submit it with your opinion and recommendation.

Please do that favour to me by first reading my article. You cannot tell the taste of a mango without tasting it. Please taste my article and tell me the taste of it.

Please search the web and read my article ““Can Materialists explain this phenomenon through their ideology or through Science?” . It seems that publishing others blog addresses is against their policy and that may be the reason why they edit out my blog address when I mention in my comments.

                      1. Tell me whether I have not proved rebirth there or not.

                      2. Tell me whether Averroes’ argument disproves the omnipotent God or not.

                      3. Tell me whether you can disprove rebirth.

                      Thanks!

                      Amarasiri;

What happened Amarasiri, is it difficult to face the reality rather than pronouncing own contentions? I provided what you have asked for and now you are silent. Is it an indication that you have run out of arguments? Is it an indication that you have eventually accepted that CREATOR GOD is a MYTH and hence any RELIGION based on REVELATION is NOTHING BUT A MYTH, and hence what is in Islam is nothing but a MYTH, and hence as I have said at the beginning, it is this wrong worldview/ideology that paves way to the fall of the Muslims and as I said the only way to the progress of Muslims is to become non-Muslims?

Further, you were unable to disprove “REBIRTH” as you declared, but I clearly proved it. You were not able to give anything against it. In that case do you accept that your allegations against Buddhism was wrong, and hence do you accept that Buddhism is a superior religion/philosophy?

Thanks in advance for a reply.

                      Thanks!

I have provided a convincing good proof, which is not a half baked religious dogma.

All the readers of this article have to right to make comments, adverse and otherwise. But the painful fact is ISLAM is the only religion accepted by God Almighty.Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Islam bashers keep bashing Islam. Let the dogs bark, the caravan will go on. The tide of Islam cannot be stopped. The writer is only measuring the material side of Islam. If Islam is an unimportant and whey or why the whole world is against Islam and Muslims. They know that the Qur’an is the word of God and everything mentioned in the Holy Qur’an will happen in the world.

Almost every religion guide us the human beings to good. But cultures make it unique the way they guide it. Islamists in Malaysia would equally prevent their female learning to read and write while the moroccans males do. Latter country is far poor while the former is not. So all these differences are primarily dependent on the poverty.

However, the bottom line is also the fantastic trend of practises of each islamic cultures making their females permanently illiterate.

“But the painful fact is ISLAM is the only religion accepted by God Almighty:

Can you give a credible reference for the above.

Ulema and Mullah puffing is not acceptable. Even the Muslim Philosophers a 1,000 years ago had issues here.

Mr Amarasiri, I value and respect your intellectual superiority on many subjects and articles which in CT. You appear to be a balanced person.
The Holy Qur’an states, to quote “Innadheena Indallahi Islam”, ie. Islam is the only revealed religion accepted by Almighty Allah. The Holy Qur,an remains unchanged upto date. No human beings have meddled with it and revise or changed it. This is the sacred fact.
I request Mr Amarasiri to study the Qur’an, which will increase his knowledge and who knows he will shine as an authority in Islam and then he can wage war against his Muslim countrymen.

      Mr. A W Abdulkany,

“The Holy Qur’an states, to quote “Innadheena Indallahi Islam”, ie. Islam is the only revealed religion accepted by Almighty Allah. “

Reason and Observation and facts, usually come ahead of revelation, but there is debate. Can you please give the Chapter (Surah) and the Verse of the above in the Quran, so that I can check it out. Thanks.

I have access to a bunch of references, including the Bible ( Many translations) , The Quaran ( 3 translations) , The Tipitaka, Science Books, Darwin, and many others so that I can compare what each says.

“knows he will shine as an authority in Islam and then he can wage war against his Muslim countrymen. “

This is NOT the goal of Amarasiri. The goal of Amarasiri is to sort out fact from fiction and imaginations. See Amarasiri comments on Monk Mahanama “Buddist” his Imaginations in the Mahawansa, that are in conflict with human vales, egalitarian values and even true Buddhist Values and teachings are well known, and and Amarasiri is just one of many who has been pointing this out. The curse and cause of the Sri Lanka conflict is Monk Mahanama and the Mahawansa imaginations.

For the Monk Mahanam Sinhala Buddhist, Tamils, Christians, Hindus, Muslims and others are Paradises, Foreigners. For the Egalitarian Native Vedda, all are foreigners,Para-Deshis.

          Mr A W Abdulkany,

          Thanks.

Sura No. 3 Al-i-imran, Verse No. 19 , Abdullah Yusef Ali translates as:

“The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will): Nor did the People of the Book Dissent therefrom except Through envy of each other, After knowledge had come to them.
But if any deny the signs of Allah, Allah is swift in calling to account.”

          What you said earlier was:

“The Holy Qur’an states, to quote “Innadheena Indallahi Islam”, ie. Islam is the only revealed religion accepted by Almighty Allah. ”

Well, so humans had to wait until revelation came up with the knowledge.

This is where Philosophers had the differences with the Ulema, Mullah and the priests, because people had to develop and acquire knowledge before revelation appeared.

Read. Incoherence of the philosophers by Hamid Ghazali and and the Incoherence of the Incoherence by Avicenna, and others in the 12th century.

          Mr. A W Abdulkany,

That video, is the case of a Hindu converting to Islam.

If you want to convert especially a Christians to Islam, here is a better case and video, of a Christian Priest converting to Islam.

Yusuf Estes American Former American Christian Preacher Converts / Rever

Yusuf Estes was a Christian Minister/Preacher before he converted to Islam. He was born in Ohio and raised in Texas by a very Christian family. His father was a Christian Reverend who also came to Islam later. With the intent of his father, some of their church friends/clergy, and himself, they tried to convert a Muslim man to Christianity in Egypt, but Yusuf Estes ended up realizing Islam was the true religion himself. His story is amazing, not only from a Christian point of view, but for the fact that how could devote Christian Preachers, Reverends, Catholic Priests, etc. convert/revert to Islam as it is happening more and more today? Whoever Allah (God) guides, none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide.

There are many videos of him on YouTube and his website is: http://www.yusufestes.com

What a foolish/confused man to preach?

Muslims must be ashamed of themselves to cite people like this in support of their religion. What he can do to support his arguments is to quote from the Quaran.

He is like a tadpole in a oil-well.

          Thanks!

Good to see old Yapa back on these pages. He does not believe in a creator god but believes in the Natha god who told him that renal failure in the NCP was caused by Arsenic in fertiliser in a revalation.

Without going at each other’s throats cant you all just wait till you die to find out wheter you will go to Paradise (full of willing virgins), Hell (like what Sri Lanka is now) or inside another woman’s womb at the moment of conception?

If you cant wait until then suicide should bring you instant enlightenment.

I went to a lecture of Dr. Tyson’s in Seattle. It was as enlightening as expected and delivered with factual realities.

What happened to the Muslim world? As Dr. Tyson explains, when Muslims (or any belief system for that matter) move away from the factual events of the natural world you denigrate man’s ability to improve and evolve into the kind of person “God” (whomever you hold that to be) intends us to become.

His statistical analysis of Nobel Prize winners was quite revealing but don’t misinterpret his point. Dr. Tyson fully embraces and even encourages mankind to have a belief system but he cautions us not to allow that belief system to force you to ignore the realities of the natural world.

Ignoring reality breeds ignorance, destroys our ability to reason and removes the inherent desire to ask why and if mankind loses that desire, he’ll eventually crawl back under the rocks from which he came
