Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil and his wife Firoza have virtually declared war on the United National Party after the party’s nomination board refused to grant Colombo’s First lady a nomination to contest on the party ticket at the Western provincial Council elections.

The Mayor, who has long been suspected of major liaisons with the Rajapaksa administration and particularly the Defence and Urban development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, yesterday sacked his coordinating secretary who had been nominated to serve the UNP mayor by Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Mayor Muzammil has publicly vowed to ensure the UNP is defeated in Colombo at the Western provincial Council elections in March after his wife was refused a nomination. Firoza Muzammil resigned from the UNP national executive committee. Soon after Mrs. Muzammil sent her letter of resignation to Wickremesinghe, she released the letter to the Sirasa Media Network, through its chairman Kili Rajamahendran. The Sirasa Media Network and its chairman have declared war on Wickremesinghe and remain committed to the UNP’s defeat at the WPC election.Believing Wickremesinghe to have denied Mrs Muzammil a nomination for the election, the Muzammils have been in regular contact with the Sirasa Media Group.
Having tasted the power of mayoral office and the privileges of proximity to the Rajapaksa Administration through the Defence Secretary, the Muzammils looked to expanding their power base with Firoza Muzammil also hoping to attain public office. The Muzammil family dynasty has been expanding since he assumed office in 2011, with the Mayor’s daughter in law now in the employ of Rajapaksa acolyte and big time businessman, Dhammika Perera.
Last year, in defiance of a UNP boycott of the Commonwealth Summit, Mayor Muzammil attended CHOGM in his capacity as First citizen of Colombo.

Hiyoo, Colombo Telegraph has started reporting like a cheap tabloid with a vengence. There is no difference between Rajpal and Colombo Telegraph. Can you please share with us where the Mayor has vowed to defeat the UNP? The people who actually live in Colombo are fully aware of what he is doing. Just because he doesnt criticize the govt for the sake of criticizing, a few are getting their knickers in a twist. Mrs. Muzammil has been a member of the Party based on her contributions and nothing to do with the husband. I have personally witnessed her at every protest in Colombo and there isnt a single politician who does as much social work. This was clearly visible when the Vihara Mahadevi open theater was packed with over 5000 people in attendance to an event in which no hand outs were given. Sajith Premadasa spoke about her during an interview talking about her popularity and the injustice. The telepgraph has continuously insinuated that the Mayor will cross over but we are still waiting to see that. Be objective and stop being another daily news.

Several UNPers who were severely critical of the President and the Govt. left the UNP and some even the Govt. Karu Jaya and few others came back and were received with open hands. Hirunika Prema. accused that those in the Govt. too were part of the plot to kill her father. She became popular using her father’s dead body as her political platform and has joined the Govt., and if she wins, no doubt will, sit beside Duminda Silva. When all these have happened and moe would happen whey a big hue and cry on this Muzzamil issue. Is it because they are Musllims?

factors.As the half of UNP is with the UPFA,he doesn’t need
any introduction to them.Everybody knows as it has become

I wonder about is,does the UNP facilitate their exit?Couldn’t

Council.
John Ameratunga accompanies president Mahinda Rajapaksa
on foreign tours to Jordan, Israel and Palestine. John
is a member of the official delegation. Jumping John also
takes part in official talks which Rajapaksa had with
leaders in those countries.
Ranil not only apoints Jumping John to the UNP Nomination
Board. He also makes him acting leader when he has gone
abroad, which he does usually. That backboneless amoeba,
Karu Jayasuriya, has no self respect. He should have resigned
proto.
So where is this democracy Ranil promised in the UNP? How can
he bring democracy to the country when there is authoritarianism
in his own party?
