Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil and his wife Firoza have virtually declared war on the United National Party after the party’s nomination board refused to grant Colombo’s First lady a nomination to contest on the party ticket at the Western provincial Council elections.

The Mayor, who has long been suspected of major liaisons with the Rajapaksa administration and particularly the Defence and Urban development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, yesterday sacked his coordinating secretary who had been nominated to serve the UNP mayor by Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Mayor Muzammil has publicly vowed to ensure the UNP is defeated in Colombo at the Western provincial Council elections in March after his wife was refused a nomination. Firoza Muzammil resigned from the UNP national executive committee. Soon after Mrs. Muzammil sent her letter of resignation to Wickremesinghe, she released the letter to the Sirasa Media Network, through its chairman Kili Rajamahendran. The Sirasa Media Network and its chairman have declared war on Wickremesinghe and remain committed to the UNP’s defeat at the WPC election.Believing Wickremesinghe to have denied Mrs Muzammil a nomination for the election, the Muzammils have been in regular contact with the Sirasa Media Group.
Having tasted the power of mayoral office and the privileges of proximity to the Rajapaksa Administration through the Defence Secretary, the Muzammils looked to expanding their power base with Firoza Muzammil also hoping to attain public office. The Muzammil family dynasty has been expanding since he assumed office in 2011, with the Mayor’s daughter in law now in the employ of Rajapaksa acolyte and big time businessman, Dhammika Perera.
Last year, in defiance of a UNP boycott of the Commonwealth Summit, Mayor Muzammil attended CHOGM in his capacity as First citizen of Colombo.

Sumanasekera – It looks like arithmetic has not been your
favourite subject at school. Otherwise only a deaf, dumb
and blind idiot would say 90 per cent of the electors will
vote for UPFA because of Muzzamil. Are you such an absolute
idiot or a sycophant who would lick any shit labelled UPFA?
Muzzamil may have worn the label UNP but it is a public secret
that he was with the UPFA. Maybe he would not have lasted in
that office otherwise. But this fellow is such an arse licker
that he would stoop to any level.
Any day, during lunch time, media people, gossip mongers, people
who want to be somebody when they are no bodies, gather at lunch
time at Muzzamil’s Kollupitiya residence. On Fridays, Buriyani
is served for them. Now Muzzamil’s guests would increase because
most will want to find out what is going on. Where does he get
the money? Is this why he wanted Rs 25 million for a cross over,
according to a senior SLFP member. He is still planning to do that
a week before the provincial council elections.
Muzzamil who was earlier a staunch worshipper of Pathola Karu
is now going around blackguarding him. Karu, who wants to be the
presidential candidate, thought Muzzamil will bring him the
Muslim votes. Ranil became suspicious of this and did not give
nominations. He is tolerating Karu only to cut down Sajith Premadasa.
Now they are ganging up with Mangala Samaraweera to sideline Ranil.
Not an easy task.
That is why Karu was not appointed acting leader. John Ameratunga
was appointed instead of. The intrigues in the UNP are much worse
than the Rajapaksa’s authoritarian goverment.

I will not be surprised if Kili Mahendran, Tiran Alles,
Thushara Gunaratne and Upul Josep Fernando come on UNP’s
National List to Parliament.
Ranil Wickremesinghe (who some joker above called a
gentleman) has a mind which works as deviously as his
brain. Gentlemen do not behave like this, do they?
What is wrong in doing what is best for the party? Surely
Maharaja has put one foot or candidate from Democratic
Party and the UPFA. The third Marikkar, who piled strong
criticism on RW on TV talk shows, is now from the UNP.
If it is to show that Ranil is so democratic that he does
not worry about those who criticise him, then he should have
given nominations to Maithri Gunaratne and Shiral Laktilleke
too. This is blatant hypocrisy. One rule for John Ameratunga
and another for the others. Damn the UNP. Voters should think
twice at the March polls before voting Ranil’s UNP!!!

Muzammil you became mayor of CMC because of UNP not because of your popularity people voted for UNP. Shame on you trying to promote your wife also into politics to make deals. If you think that you can damage the UNP vote bank in Colombo resign immediately and prove yourself by joining UPFA .
