My Dear Onella

By Gamini De Silva

Even though it is admirable that you took it upon yourself to be the savior of your beleaguered family, you have failed miserably in your attempt to whitewash a man that is clearly beyond redemption. As a daughter I do feel for you but as a citizen of this beautiful country, I am shocked and amazed how you and your father both think that the voters of this country are imbeciles. Let me elaborate to you why I came into this conclusion .

Onella Karunanayake

You have mentioned in your statement that your Father is a “Fall man” used by vested parties. Let me first give you the definition of a “Fall guy” as per the oxford dictionary and I quote “Fall guy is a colloquial phrase that refers to a person to whom blame is deliberately and falsely attributed in order to deflect blame from another party”. I would now like to ask you who the “other party ” is ? Are they not the same people who belong to your father’s esteemed United National Party or are you referring to the President who is also the head of the rainbow coalition your father helped place on the map.

You have also said and I quote “Does everyone really believe for the last couple of years everything in the government is just one man and that we have been getting hit cause we deserve it or that maybe there is a pattern to this madness now?”. What you are trying to sordidly imply is that this government that the poor people of this country brought to power has many unsavory accusations and your father is the one getting “hit” and singled out. Has power made you lose every fragment of common sense you have left? Just because others steal and don’t get caught, it’s absurd that you are hurt that it is your father who couldn’t cover up his tracks !

You speak so highly about freedom of speech and how it is been abused but do you really expect the people of this country to watch and wait while you and your family live in an apartment which was paid for by the orchestrator of the biggest Scam this country has ever seeing ? Have you never heard of the term “conflict of interest” ? What is even more shocking is the statement your father made at the Commision making you and your mother scapegoats to this disgraceful and pathetic episode. Are you really telling me that you and your mother did not know that Arjun Aloysius was under investigation? Did you not know that he was the son in law of the governor of the Central Bank? Did you not think that if this was going to come out, that your father would have to resign? If you did not know any of these things, I suggest you attend classes to help and rehabilitate pathological liars.

You and your family are classic examples of what “nepotism” really is. You have stolen or watched your father steal and plunder what belongs to our people. You have tried shamelessly to whitewash a man that you know is corrupt, a man that blamed the Rajapaksas for every fart they made while living in luxury in a Penthouse paid for by cash that was robbed from us, the people.

It is still not too late for you my dear Onella to let justice take its course. It is not too late for you to stop thinking that we are fools and that the times of corruption and running away scot free is finally changing. Your fathers political career is now almost over and the people of this country will not be fooled by his “clean suit” again. You still have hope to turn around and lead an honest life . If not you will fade away into memory as the daughter of the biggest crook that this country has ever produced.

With my best wishes

How come AG who investigated 8600 pages against Ravi within 2 days could not verify culprit Gotabaya’s signature for 2 years?

It was on 24 th of July the order was given to hand over the mobile phone of Aloysius to the CID . If the phone was handed over on the 2 5th , and since 26 th and 27 th were weekend holidays , even to get print outs of 8600 pages it takes two more days. The AG in any event after examining presented those to the Commission on the 2 nd.

In other words the AG has examined all these 8600 pages within two days , hasn’t he? A wonderful enthusiasm displayed and what concern shown? That is welcome. But , why had the AG for the last over two years been unable to verify the signature on the letter of Gotabaya which ordered the Urban development authority (UDA) to release Rs. 90 million towards the construction of a mausoleum in memory of Gota’s parents ? Why wasn’t the same diligence applied by the AG in Gota’s case too ?

        @Nimal

Agreed. Why has the AG dept not shown the same diligence and effort to litigate GR and BR? The AG and his cohorts seem to be highly biased. Why not investigate the Maharaja family which is long overdue?

          Anuruddha,

Onella knows best . She put it simple .”Politics is dirty.”
That is exactly why her father is in it ! And in it in a
very big way as he is one of the leaders of the party and
the most powerful in the cabinet , only second to the
PM . Such a man talks to his masters , I mean the voter
through his wind pipe , saving the mouth to talk with
          Aloysius !

Excellent response! These girls living in luxury on poor people’s money are pretending ‘thoththababas’. They also think we in this country are fools and should keep our mouths shut like slaves in the 18th century Americas.
I would like to know the reaction of the Cival society and Dambara Amila (the fat monk). They have been defending this Yahapalanaya from day one and still expect us to believe them!
President MS is supposed to make a statement; I don’t expect any surprises. He would probably say he would wait until the Commission inquiry is complete in 3 months. It may look logical but, given the concrete certainty of the revelations made through testimony, people will start doubting his behaviour and he won’t be able to stop the tsunami.
People will now pay attention to President’s ongoing ‘coverage’ of the Bond Scam. We all know how he had been dillydallying until Ven Bellanwila thero lashed him out at a public meeting.
Mr. President! People are waiting and you cannot postpone this like the provincial elections!

We have no problems with rich and wealthy who made it to the top respectfully. From her younger age Onela is addicted to power and her father is buried to his eyeballs in greed. Living an unimaginable luxury life , driving only the top end Mercs and Audis with desperate people’s money. How do these people sleep at night?

Our people will forget all these incidents and vote him and many other corrupt politicians back in to power. Have no doubts about that. RaviK has only gained more popularity from this circus which will not see him convicted. He will come clean.

You swear placing your hands over Holy Bible promising you never lie, One may cheat everybody every time but not the Almighty God as you believe.God forgive those who repent and admit the truth, but not those who forget things specially his or her family does?

Well written.. but a waste of words..probably like water on a ducks back.

They will never learn a lesson nor change, the government will brush this under the carpet, and our people will forget all this drama all too soon!

      Thanks for your belated wisdom.
Thanks for reminding the political culture of this land from 1956.
What are you going to do about it?
Is it tempting for you to become a UNP/SLFP/NFF crook? You have plenty of choices.

I DO AGREE 100 PERCENT WITH THE FIRST COMMENT BY NIMAL FERNANDO. WE DON’T WHITEWASH RK BUT WE HAVE MANY LIKE HIM AND WE ALSO HAD IN THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT TOO.AS A WHOLE IS A GOOD PIECE, NO DOUBT.

This daughter of Ravi K, not only thinks that voters are bunch of imbeciles, she thinks she is smart enough to defend her father. This Yahapalanaya government came to power by promising to punish members of the former government. They wasted two and a half years witch hunting opponents, not realizing there were rogues working their way up within their own government. This happened because this Government has absolute power- backed by two major parties and the TNA. As Lord Acton once said “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. If President Sirisena is a man guided by his convictions, he has a moral duty to ask Ravi K to step down and face the case against him.

RK is a crook but not the biggest crook. His rent for the pent-house was about Rs 15 million( 6 months ?) This is small change compared to the billions made by Mahendran/Aloysius/RW combine.

By getting this benefit from young man Aloysius our senior finance minister ( former) put himself in a conflict of interest situation. Aloysius and his companies have many interest in matters that come into the Finance Ministry. So if RK has any self respect he should go.

But we are concerned with the Bond issue which was a straight forward racket by Governor Mahendran and his son in law Aloysious. This was done under the protective cover given by the PM who is now celebrating 40 years in politics.

The PM appointed Mahendran. The PM defended the bond scam at every opportunity. The PM appointed 3 UNP lawyers to investigate the scam thus making it a big joke. The PM got clueless UNP MPS to defend the Mahendran and the scam. The PM gave a second appointment to Mahendran and even tried to extend his term further.

It is because of the PM that neither Mahendran nor Aloysious have been questioned by the police so far.

This Bond saga best represents RW s 40 year political life- a hoax.

You know why only your father and Anjalee’s father (Mahendran) are blamed darling? They took their share of the loot home to share with the children. Uncle Ranil and uncle Malik (who can’t or who don’t have children – God only knows the reason) donated their shares to the UNP coffers.

Ravi K. Actions proved beyond doubt that he’s corrupted and should not sent home but straight to walikada!!?? Only the The mob Mafia and Drug Cartels deal in millions of Cash to do transactions like buying a Penthouse for cash 165 million rupees!! Wow, ironic hah!!

Absolutely True. There are many crooks still wearing clean suits but did not get caught. This is a very good lesson for them to think twice before they get involved in this kind of daylight robbery. It is proven beyond doubt that RK is involved. There is no necessity to drag others on a heresay. If evidence can be produced, RK can become a witness to expose others.

However, you need to bow your head to the verdict when caught red handed.

If she can hold a position of responsibility as a Director she must be aware what is mean by money laundering and what they did by accepting a luxury flat on free rent has something to do with her fathers position. She was a friend of Arjuna A and Anita when they were studying at the Colombo International. And can’t be a baby. Don’t cry my dear as you, your mother and the father are all in this game.

Excellent reply to Onella, who had tried to get peoples sympathy and to whitewash blunders her father had done, while enjoying every cent of it. We have seen how ස තො ස was bankrupted together with many many other corruptions in the recent past. Also it is shameless to support to rob Central Bank which is the biggest robbery taken place in our small island. But one fine day you have to pay for all your sins. So this is your turn and rest of the group will also come under spotlight in near future.

Yes, these politicians and their siblings think that they can do what ever they want against the law of the country. These are the people who don’t have any shame i their life and think that general public has no sense. This is a pathetic situation in our country and I cannot see anyone trying to change this culture of politicians. How many politicians we have with clean hand????

This clean suit crook must be crucified and so are the purported clean suit guys in the garbage dump in the Diyawadane. I put aside my business and worked tirelessly going house to house to get these corrupt bastards into power with the intention that they would not repeat the same offences as the Rajapakse and his cronies. It’s only now I realize that it was only the tip of the iceberg. In the end, the 6.2M voters have elected thieves to catch the thieves!

    Dear Onella,

I hope you read this article by Gamini De Silva, carefully. Reflect on his carefully chosen words. Most decent adults want to keep children out of the transgressions of their parents. But you are grown-up AND you have chosen of your own volition to enter into the fray. Bad mistake. It is becoming increasingly evident that your father, an educated man of this world, acted, at best with naivety, but as is becoming evident, with breathtaking audacity. In the court of public opinion he has been proven a audacious crook. This is a time for the family to be quiet, hide behind the sofa, stay away from the public gaze. Let father weather this storm of his own making. The sympathies of WE The People are reserved for the poor struggling masses of our country who suffer every time thieving politicians or public officials behave badly. This curse on Mother Lanka has yet to be exorcised.

The writer seems totally one sided and one with a short term memory and seems to have forgotten the years 2005 to 2014 and even earlier.

An article has to be written in a very balanced manner and not this way. Calling one the biggest crook till proven is not right, evidence no doubt casts a great shadow of the possibility, but the law should be respected and till proven kept as an investigation.

I haven’t seen the colour of the daughter mentioned, but she is free to convey her opinion, and let this just be the writers opinion and not be running to conclusions.

Interesting to read but the substance is far too early to comment upon.
    Cheers.

The core problem with some Sri Lankan’s are showcased in the reply by Jayantha .why remember the years 2005-2014 ? Was it not because of the Mistakes the regime made then that the people voted for a change on the 8th of January ? However isn’t half the cabinet of the previous regime including the likes of SB still cabinet ministers today? Let just this be your opinion my friend because you seem more of a UNP lackey than anything else . If you were a true follower of the “peoples voice” you would also understand that the evidence presented before the Commision is nothing short of disgusting . There is more incriminating evidence the Commision presented than any of the cases presented against the previous regime which is why the current regime is struggling to hold facts in court . You should use the same principle you have on “proving innocence until proved guilty ” on politicians around the board and not just on politicians you pick and choose . The difference between the writer and you is that he is focusing on the present rather than talking about the past and you should rightfully do so too . The past is what landed us in a mess and what is happening currently is a more amplified and disgusting form of Corruption that people like you seem to condone.

Unfortunately the attention has been drawn away from the bigger crooks!!Strange but they are very quiet about it.Wonder why. They may not like someone else taking a higher place!!Let the law take its course. The people will decide whether they want a bigger SET of crooks at the next election!!!

I have a huge question, everybody calls him a CLEAN SUIT MAN, by now everybody understands that it refers only to that attire Suit, Tie and Coat he wears, but what made him wear a National Attire = white Sarong and a national instead of clean suit on the Budget day – for submitting the Budget Proposals? On that day it self I understood this RK is a Crook, who cannot figure out which attire is “UNCLEAN”!

Do these people have consions ?? Have they no shame or fear ? Or have they sold their soul ? It’s a shame we have to tolerate such people and not kick them out of public office for good.. This crook has fed his family with public funds and it’s a shame … He should be black listed , never to return to active politics.
He must be protecting the names of his superiors but the entire country knows who is behind all this… It’s a Royal Scam and every single one of them should be arrested and but behind bars with their assets frozen..
I feel for the daughter, but she is a business women who never had to win business like all the rest, its given to her in a platter, Never worked a single day like the rest of us.. the crook father made it all happen.. So you daughter should ask,, have I earned these or are they stolen from the public you see around when you step out.. you should be shamed as the entire country is watching the dram your crook dad is showing … “” thoththa babala””

make no mistake, this ‘thoththababa’ is also equally involved in the deal with the father. These people should be in welikade.

Now, Onella should ask Mummy and Daddy, how they paid her school fees and foreign jaunts? Was it also stolen money or was it unknown angels leaving bags at the front door…The girls’ immaturity clearly shows in her desire to defend her family, inspite of the obvious. RKs attempt to act dumb is contemptous and stupid at the same time.
