Namal Wants UN Torture Experts To Investigate Political Victimisation

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has urged two top United Nations human rights experts to investigate political victimisation under President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration during the past one year.

Namal1His request comes just before a scheduled visit by UN human rights experts Mónica Pinto and Juan E. Méndez who will arrive in Sri Lanka on Friday to assess the recent developments and identify challenges related to the use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and to the independence of the justice system.

Namal, the eldest son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a tweet said, “hope, UN’s Mónica Pinto and Juan E. Méndez will look into LTTE’s atrocities and political victimisation during the past year.”

During their stay, which will conclude on May 7, Pinto and Méndez will meet with high level government officials, members of the judiciary and prosecution services, lawyers, civil society, the National Human Rights Commission, and victims and their families. They will also travel to North, North Central, Eastern, Central and Southern provinces, and will also visit places where persons are detained.

An analyst quipped that it was ironic that someone in the likes of Namal Rajapaksa requesting for a probe into political victimization, specially taking into account the high level of political victimization critics and anyone deemed as a ‘threat’ to the former President underwent during an almost ten year long rule.

Good request. Can we go a few more years, say until 2010?

What happened to Lasantha? What happened to Prageeth? What happened to Waseem? What happened at Rathpussellawa?

Shall we go a bit beyond?

What happened to Nadesan? What happened to Balachandran? What happened to Pulidevan? What happened to Isaipriya? Even what happened to Prabaharan?

I hope the two UN human rights experts will also investigate the excesses of the previous regime and also the utter disregard of all human rights during the time of Namal Rajapaksa’s political wheeler dealership in association with his father and uncles and brothers.

Prof. Manfred Novak, UN Rapporteur visited in October 2007 and reported that torture was widely prevalent in Sri Lanka.

    Namal,

You should talk to Dayan J. Or, on second thought, don’t tell him – he might screw you up – we don’t know which NGO is “looking after” him now. He is such a staunch believer in country’s sovereignty and is vehemently opposed to international intervention.

We all thought you too were such a practical patriot, and not one of those “Domestic Diaspora” as Dayan used to characterize any one seeking UN support for justice? – What changed you? LTTE? Are you being funded by the Tamil Diaspora now? Is your Thaththi with you on this UN intervention plea? Malli? Podi-Thaththi? Ammi? So sorry for all of you. Do you need some Diaspora funding to reach out to the UN – just say so. Or ask old-pal Rajasingham! He knows your Dad well. Very well!!

Oh sure they will, but only after they investigated the political victimization and torture of General Fonseka, Presidential Election Candidate 2010, by your loving dada, and the fake Dutugemunu, your beloved uncle podda! Every other cases must take their place in the queue, because I am sure UN wants to set a bench mark based on Gnereals Torture

Namal is right, lets set up an International Investigation Commission to investigate all forms of human rights violations committed from 9th Jan 2015 to date.

We will request international community to send a few foreign judges to sit in the commission.

Way to go, Namal! But before the Torture Experts start on the current administration, they should investigate the previous one that broke all sorts of records for abductions, torture and murder (among a host of other Human Rights violations).

How frigging stupid can you get???!!!

NV, isn’t he the same thug who sat in a separate room alone with the answer paper and copied the whole exam. Also he was such a brilliant guy, he finished the entire certification in only 7 months. What were they teaching at law college? comics?

Whatever he did or did not do in the examination hall, remember he is the legal eagle who now represents the professor of law, G L Pieris.

Do you think you know the young legal eagle’s ability better than the Law Professor? I wouldn’t think so.

P.S Lets not discuss the Law Professor’s judgement.

Is it true GL P took this young legal eagle with him to the police inquiry, chosen not for his ability but to intimidate the police?

Son prince is inviting the foreign judges and lawyers to investigate the current criminal, but the current criminal, Yahapalanaya, New Royals are obstructing the international investigation into the Old Royal Government. What you guess?

Everybody’s guessings will be 100% correct on this. Because everybody knows that the current criminals are much, much worse than the Old Royals. Attanagalla Princess, Ranil and New King knowly gave a criminal promise to Old King not to investigate their crime. Ranil is not keeping any promise he gave out, but he could not get out of this criminal promise.

If indeed there’s “political victimization” it would have happened last year soon after elections like what happened to SF. Now after thorough investigations those found guilty will have to pay the price. If you haven’t done wrong, you don’t have to be jittery.

    Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa

RE: Namal Wants UN Torture Experts To Investigate Political Victimisation

    Very good.

    Let’s Start from 2005.

  • 12

This young man talks and behaves like a kid. Very immature statement to make when his father and uncle tormented people with their rule not to mention that Namal himself stands accused of the murder of Thajudeen. According to the medical reports Thajudeen was tortured before being killed. What a sick mind this boy has. Namal! Why won’t we start by asking them to investigate you?

Secondly, do you even understand the word “political victimisation”. Where were you when your father politically victimised Sarath Fonseka, Shiranee Bandaranaike, chandrika, the killing of TNA politician Raviraj, Lasantha the victimisation of Keith Noyar, Iqbal Athas etc.

We the people voted this government to investigate and arrest all of you. In fact they have let us down by dragging their feet and being lenient with your family. Even if this Government fails the people will have their justice one day. We are now looking at the newly appointed IGP to do what this government has failed miserably to do. So far the IGP has displayed that he does not fear politicians but he only fears the law of our land. This is the attitude we have been looking for in Sri Lankans. So tweet as much as you like but you and your family and uncles will be caught by your neck. Soon. Very soon!!!

A taste of their own medicine? Looks like the Rajapaksas can dish out, but cannot take it.

What goes around, comes around Namal, and you guys are reaping what you have sown.

Take it like a man (like so many did when your family was in power).

This shows immaturity in politics, Why the West Would be interested to listen to Namal? The Rajapaksas should have thought well “what will happen to us, if the masters who divide the world got a hold of one of us and topple the government”

Namal Wants UN Torture Experts To Investigate Political Victimisation

Namal Baby, we have to finish the investigations of the tortures done in the past, after that we can investigate the tortures of the present time.

You must be brought to justice soon and incarcerated for life soon

Yes, good that he has asked for it. He must be talking through his hat! The UN experts must be asked to investigate not only the political victimization caused by the present government but also his own recent utterances of avenging the FCID, the police officers and the judges if they come to power again and also that of his father’s regime when there were so many allegations of murders, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment of political opponents, and journalists who were critical of his regime that lasted ten years.

  • 5

There is no Political victimization like when his father was the President. Everybody knows what they did, the entire family for that matter , so justice must prevail in this country. CID , FCID are doing their best to bring them to books. The missing Diplomat who was involved in Arms deal to Ukraine was met up with by the father in Bangkok, couple of days ago. So the dealing with such people who is a close relative and now is a fugitive with a diplomatic passport is being pursued Srilanka with Interpol help

When Rajapakse was in power, doing such a thing as to complain to the UN was a unpatriotic act. People were totally scared to do so while in Sri Lanka and if any one dared would have had ended up being taken away in a white van and thereafter gone missing.

Now they are doing the very same what they told was unpatriotic. They told Sri Lanka has the best judiciary and we could sort all our problems with internal inquiry. Why does he not also take Sarath Fonseka (former Army commander) and Shirani Bandaranayeke (former Chief Justice)along with him!

Good that Namal wants to complain to the UN, and let him do so and that will only expose them what they tried to hush so far. There is no limit for political stupidity.

  • 5

Any Aney! when you folks were in power we could not even complain to a police station. But when someone starts turning the heat on you, you want the bloody UN. Well keep dreaming young man.

  • 5

On second thoughts, Namal is right! We should have UN inquiry and that should start from 2005. We need foreign judges and local judges are incompetent and corrupt. Certainly the UN should investigate all the complaints from 2005.

We all should join hands and support his mission. Am sure all the Tamils in Sri Lanka and in the Diaspora, including Sarath Fonseka, Shirani Bandaranayake are all together supporting Namal in his truth seeking venture.

Sure Namal is a fool as usual, and will fall into his own trap. Let him get well and truly committed with the UN and so they get a strong foothold and thereafter let the UN inquire fully as they please and then pronounce their judgement. He would later regret his decision.

Namal no wonder every one refers to your family as mongal family, you not only look like a mongal but talks like a mongal as well. My advice to you is to keep your gab shut. Today we are free to talk and our lives are safe but, during the the time the mongal family was ruling we all lived in fear so, please do go and talk to the UN reps and submit your woes….you should join a circus you will be a good court jester

Let the UN come and investigate and let there be foreign judges, and the Government can place all the blame on Namal Rajapakse. This is the best way to get two mangoes with one stone and get the support we dearly need from the developed countries like the USA, and the European Union. Rajapakse and their clowns cannot say a thing and they are firmly stumped.
