Nandasena Plots More Arrests: Anura, Manusha & Other MPs In Line For Persecution

Early warning of attempts to arrest SJB frontliner Harin Fernando, who has since been admitted to hospital has raised the alarm about plans by President Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa to make a spate of arrests of key opposition lawmakers.

Fernando was summoned to the CID and about to be arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and slapped with a 90 day detention order that would deny him an opportunity to get bail or have access to legal counsel.

Gotabaya

The list of parliamentarians already singled out for legal action is long. Rishard Bathiudeen became the Government’s latest target last week, but strong opposition orators Rajitha Senaratne, Champika Ranawaka, Azath Salley have already been arrested and are facing prosecution. Salley and Bathiudeen have both been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, like Hejaaz Hizbullah who has been incarcerated for over a year under the draconian anti-terror law.

Colombo Telegraph learns that plans are afoot to take action against JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Manusha Nanayakkara and at least one Tamil lawmaker in a bid to silence critical voices in Parliament.

Sources told Colombo Telegraph that a series of explosive speeches in Parliament had irked President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who has expedited plans for sweeping legal action to end the barrage of criticism against his regime by these popular politicians.

Dissanayake, M.A. Sumanthiran, Bathiudeen, Fernando and others were sharply critical of the Government in Parliament last weeks and in the weeks preceding, as the reports on the Presidential Commissions on the Easter Sunday attacks and political victimization came up for heated debate. Many of those speeches have been widely circulated on social media, online news sites and messaging apps.

Sri Lanka is in the grip of a tight media clampdown on news unfavourable to the Government while media powerhouses aligned with the Nandasena Regime continue to prop up a ruling party that is flailing and failing in the face of massive economic and public health crises. The Government has already drafted laws to crackdown on so-called “fake news” on social media experts say will post huge security risks for citizens exercising free expression on these web-based mediums.

“Under these circumstances, Parliament is quite literally the last place standing, where courageous opposition MPs can exercise parliamentary privilege to expose the Government’s misdeeds,” opposition activists alarmed by the President’s latest moves told Colombo Telegraph.

Members of Parliament cannot be arrested for statements made on the floor of the House, where they exercise powers under the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act.

“The fact that MPs stop themselves from exposing certain things at press conferences and other public forums, and wait to make these speeches in Parliament itself tells you the kind of repression that is ongoing in Sri Lanka right now. But it appears as if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is about to break that tradition too, and is ready to arrest opposition MPs for speaking in the House, in complete violation of the Act. This way, he will secure a completely pliant Parliament, where he holds a super majority to pass any law” the activist warned.

This week the National Movement for Social Justice, once led by Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero expressed horror and outrage over the moves to arrest parliamentarians for exercising parliamentary privilege and speaking on the floor of the House.

“If these illiberal policies continue, Sri Lanka risks further isolating itself on the world stage. We cannot face these affronts to the sovereignty of our country and our fundamental democratic traditions in isolation. These challenges can only be overcome if all Lankans who value their freedom and liberty join hands and unitedly face this threat,” the NMSJ urged. (By Chinthika De Silva

    Where are you?
I have been contemplating my future, and planning to take up Sinhala/Buddhism as my new trade/vocation. Of course I will exchange my Amude for Saffron Robe.

If you see me on the bus give up your seat.
If you see me in the street, bow down to me with respect.

    What do you think?

This is unprecedented, even from the rogues from Madamulana, but I suppose a wounded coward like Nando knows no better than to react in this fashion.

Where, pray, is that young Premadasa chappie, who last I saw talking to himself from a jeep in Yala, in this fast developing scenario of silencing parliamentarians who re simply doing their jobs? When are we going to see him in all his fury, take on this wretched group of bandicoots from the hallowed portals of Jayawardenapura?

Come on Sajith, Mother Lanka awaits you….. you need to ask you mentor Dr Dayan J, what the phrase, “cometh the hour, cometh the man” means, and then rise gallantly to the occasion (no pun intended).

When will Akim be arrested? After all he is the big boss of muslim community, and he and other Muslim bosses must be held accountable for Easter Sunday attacks. Without them, Kattankudi slum dogs would be nothing. There are photographic and video evidence that they had hanky-panky with Saran and his brother, aware of experimental explosion before the actual Easter Sunday attacks.

Tony Boo Boo, the master mind of the Easter bombing is sitting in the President’s chair. Stop passing the blame on the Muslim community.

Continuous hunt on OPPOSITION MPs will shorten his term for sure. Wait and see, the kind of men would not live long. And international community would not stay mum longer. We got to experience that in the US until the very same nation sent Trump home.

Nandasini/former man, well qualified for the position -HANG MAN, was seen as one of alleged high criminals the mother lanka ever produced. However, lack of law and order systems allowed him to become PE nominee, this occured thanks to that Pattapal horagediya MACO (Mathiwarana komasaris). His predecessor was even worst, and known to have lost almost everything through his so called ” aathathiya -tension”: If the bugger acted by studying Gotabaya’s documents regarding his claim about being non-dual citizen, he would not have become the presidential candidate. Yet today, in any civilized country could raise the issue. I have no idea about the law prevailing in the country regarding incumbent presidents – I believe, any citizen could raise the issue today again…… bugger was an american citizen by the time, he was made known as ” presidential nominee”: In an european country, this would not have been possible. But any injustices can easily be repeating our hell -SRILANKA (srilanka is a better place for nature lovers, but people would never learn to respect law and order, tolerance, equal rights, caste free culture etc).

If this report is correct the only way out is regime change.
To do it constitutionally the President will have to be impeached.
A near impossibility under present circumstances but don’t govt. party MPs realize that their necks are already in the noose?

    • 1
      0

Ah Kumar, to do this constitutionally will be impossible, as you say, so the best Lanka can hope for, is to bide her time until enough of a critical mass of people’s power and dissent emerges, which can and will do the trick, but not without lots of collateral harm to many.

The changing tide has not gone unnoticed by Nando and his brawny thugs, one of whom, Jagath Alwis has been hurriedly appointed as Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security.

Execution, if not persecution is the result of opposition. This, I expected whether NGR or SRP got elected as the President of Mother Lanka. I am not an RW fan but with him you can get verbally bullied (not abused) but that’s it. In fact, it is a wonder as to why it got so long for any possible serious action. Politicians here are all the same, No. 1 Kleptocrats and even philanderers. But they too deserve to be treated fairly and justice be done to them. Those who are facing charges in court and out on bail, I am discounting them as a process is on going where they can present their side of the story. But people held on detention without any form of trial for ages is not acceptable. We have seen that process of remand and detention being abused whether it is the “Yahapalana” Government or the present one. It is important that investigation, prosecution and adjudication be without delay. With respect to Harin his claim of “Sonic! Sonic!” must be looked into and at the same time he must clear the air of warnings received prior to attack without violating Parliamentary privileges.

Instead of focusing on the damn pandemic, and making sure the people are vaccinated, and protected, this man is plotting and planning to jail his political opponents. Who does he think he is Putin, or Kim Jong Un? The world is watching, and right now we need all the help they can give to make sure we do not become like India. People are dying on the streets over there, and they do not have adequate oxygen to help them all. The problem with these dictator types is, they don’t care about the country, only solidifying new laws to make sure they and their families can stay on, and fleece the country.
    This is a shame.

Gotabhaya Rajapakshe failed. He failed to:
    • Punish those who allowed the Muslim terrorist attack to go ahead despite the fact that ample warnings had been given.
    • Punish those who were behind the Muslim terrorist attack.
    • Punish those who violated the Constitution by passing a resolution to create a separate State within Sri Lanka and waged war against the Sinhala nation.
    • Punish the guy who master minded Central Bank robbery and all the others involved with Bond Scam.
    • Bring Arjun Mahendran from Singapore and punish him for his role in Bond Scam.
    • Bring LTTE cadres who committed crimes against Sinhalayo and are hiding in foreign countries under new identities and punish them.

If they would punish Atjuns Mahendran, then Ajit Cabral (bed pan cleaner of Rajapakseh family) and Nandasena S brother (mafia boss) should also be punished, going by ” one country, one law”: I dont think Nandasena would love to hang his own brother by his balls right ?😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎Unfortunately, the architect of – one country one law – is today caught by his own asylum. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎hik… hik… hik… hik… 😎😎😎😎good riddance… hik hik.. reminded me that BBC interview… hik hik..😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Jesus has said the first to cast a stone at a sinner should be a non sinner (or to that effect). In this context, GR’s hands are not clean either, therefore, unable to ‘punish’ those in your list. He is in the same boat & smeared with the same shit as all those who have f****d this country.

Gota’s racist plan is clear. He wants to eliminate competition. Such a racist!

Why no Tamil MPs are arrested? None. Ever!

    • 7
      2

Gota is not a racist! He is a Criminal and a Terrorist. Whoever comes on his way will be abducted, torched, threatened or eliminated. This is what only he knows and his character cannot be changed. Lasantha exposed his corruption. Lasantha was murdered. Raviraj was murdered who voiced against human rights violation. He will use Rishard as an example to other Muslim leaders. Next on the list is Harin! Even those Buddhist Monks now shout against him should be a target if necessary.

      • 3
        0

But those Buddhist monks who did his dirty work, went around attacking minorities, and shouting about this country belonging to Buddhists, are now silent, as Nandasena is handing China chunks of this country, and arresting all opposition. They were cheering him on when he arrested Muslims, but strangely quiet now when he arrests Sinhala Buddhists. Nandasena the wanna be dictator is taking this country down a very dangerous path.

“Why no Tamil MPs are arrested? None. Ever!”

Do you remember LTTE man called Pillayan who spent nearly 5 years without charges being brought against him. By the way he is a close mate of the clan.

Have you ever thought about why Ranil did not charge Mahinda for October 2018 coup?

Quod Deus vault perdere, prius dementat which simply means those whom God wishes to destroy, he first deprives of reason, is where this President has come to. From the day he came to power I knew that he would pave the way for the last lap for the Rajapaksas in Sri Lanka

Within a week Got-a-baya taking over country following presidential election the Rajapaksas Plan was obvious that they were going establishing a military rule. Knowing well of previous loss of power, inquiries, cases, close associates being rounded up, Geneva debacle, access to foreign powers they had this new plan in mind so they mistakes will not be repeated. Even “bring back hitler ” cry was staged so that people get use to the idea before elections. If it was LTTE before they were going to use ISIS this time to fool our Lankans. 1) The whole intelligence, TID,CID was put on watch list, and then replaced with his own people 2) Tri services from top to bottom was replaced. 3) military many who was not active but retired were brought back into administration, Covid management, diplomats, under sec for ministries to gradually take over the whole civic /public spaces 4) data collection, social media monitoring ,passport, national ID, and even driving licences were handed over to military to keep a tab on citizens 4) MR was elected as PM and 90 % of ministerial portfolios and administration was brought under one family. 5) MP,S were bought out or pressurized to get 2/3, amend constitution and there by all powers were brought under one family

  • 4
    1

cont 6) Rajapaksas do not trust allies any more and for that matter they do not trust their own party members except for few who were involved in past crimes/corruption (Mahindananda, Prasanna, Cabral – – -)7) So they sidelined them all with mere titles but without power means no access to inside infor 8)Previously they dealt dissent by white van, political killings, kidnap. Realizing such methods are difficult to continue now are they armed with SHAM laws, parliament, judiciary to make look their actions are constitutional 9) As I mentioned after presidential election “Rajapaksas are here to say” and Lankans will not be able to dismantle the mafia 10) Covid is a X factor and is now playing spoil sport 11) They are solely depending on China to keep them going just like Myanmar, North Korea. 12) They decided to bring China in, to make it a direct confrontation with West. By that China will be forced to protect it’s “road to glory project” and massive investments.13) If above said facts are true then we have the answer for who was behind Easter ??

““Under these circumstances, Parliament is quite literally the last place standing, where courageous opposition MPs can exercise parliamentary privilege to expose the Government’s misdeeds,”

How many of these “courageous opposition MP’s” asked for Ranil to resign after the bond scam? How many of them have asked for an investigation into why he ignored intelligence warnings? At least Bathiudeen resigned, Ranil did not take any blame as he wanted to continue his failed 26 year “leadership.”

A thought that can be expanded utilizing the Religious Leadership – say led by Rev. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero. To maintain our democracy, they should lead a team of all Religious Leaders, especially ones that
openly support in attending Monthly meetings with Sir Nandasena, and reach an understanding with
him that NO PARLIAMENTARIAN should ever be Charged, in keeping with the current parliamentary rules, which guarantee Gota should make in Public and stand by it – whatever the criticism be. SB Voters
should be educated by M.PP to back this move by various field activities. The so-called SB intelligentsia
can help in the background – as this category has been restrained by their better half!

The Rajapaksa’s are traitors to this country. They have sold us out to China, they are eroding our laws and implementing laws to solidify their powers, they have pardoned criminals, and appointed crooks, murderers, and war criminals, who will easily commit crimes at their bidding, and have brought this country embarrassment in the international arena. We are being watched by Human Rights groups, and have had to hear strong condemnation from many who we sometimes rely on for help. We have got endless warnings from Judicial and Media organizations internationally. Now they stoop to what dictators and tyrants do – arresting of political opponents and activists who stand up to them, or condemn their endless crimes. They feel threatened that those with knowledge of their crimes will speak out, like some did in the parliament. Things are getting worse in this country, not better.

Either their supporters do not understand the gravity of what is happening to this country, or simply do not care. This is detrimental to the progress and stability in our country, and will eventually end up badly. Sri Lanka is changing for the worse, and this will cause unrest and internal strife, which will be too costly.

Buckle up, we are in for a very rough ride.
