Shedding light into the sorry state of national security that prevailed in the country with Sirisena at the helm, National Intelligence Chief, retired DIG Sisira Mendis says the last National Security Council meeting held before Easter Attacks was on February 19,2019.

Mendis made this statement today with regard to a question directed to him by MP Sarath Fonseka, on when the last NSC was held, during the inaugural session of the Parliamentary Select Committee proceedings to probe Easter attacks.
Interestingly, as Mendis approached this point, the live feed telecasted by the Parliament on the Committee sittings were abruptly cut off. Colombo Telegraph learns this was a result of an order issued by Sirisena. Excerpts of the sittings were however telecasted in evening TV news bulletins.

Ranil did not try to buckle CBK govt but allowed CBK to continue. I believe Ranil wanted to allow the masses to see for themselves the capability of CBK. That is how Ranil managed to secure power again in 2002 but then again CBK derailed by dissolving the RW Govt after RW got a written undertaking from India not to dissolve the govt, that would have affected the Peace Talks, which Liam Fox brokered. Did India utter a word, when CBK backtracked on her assurances? No. What happened there after is at the Presidential Election in 2005 MR, Mangala, Tiran, Sripathi, Jeyaraj all together branded RW having entered in to an Agreement with VP of the LTTE. But in fact it was MR and them that has had an agreement and quite many who supported MR died mysteriously and today Mangala is paying penance for what he did to RW together with CBK.

Sri Lanka’s problem is some hidden hand is running Sri lanka. Running means every where in the system they are influential. I do not why every member of international community thinks that Sri lankans are that pathetic and they go every where. Is this another puerile attempt by Sirisena to prove his innocence and reinforce his claim of ignorance? Does he think we are imbeciles? I am perplexed; the Easter tragedy has opened up many cans of worms. Are we trying to side step the main issue? It is beyond doubt now that the warnings were there; the security forces and the Commander in chief knew about it. Why weren’t preventive measures taken? Lives would have been spared AND the political scenario might have been very different too. Did this power hungry leadership sacrifice the lives of these worshipers to willfully gain political mileage? Have we fallen so low?
